@WestcoastrocksduhI feel the same I’m really trying to like it but I’m just like I feel like playing the first game the whole time. I like far cry but it’s not dying light at this point
Another cool detail i like in 1 is that when the sun is going down every single zombie becomes docile and faces the sun set for a few seconds, i noticed this when i was fighting zombies on the big bridge and as the sun set i noticed that no zombies were attacking me, they walked to one side of the bridge and just stared up at the sun and as soon as the sun was gone they went back to thier old bitey selves, just a cool detail that i absolutely loved.
@@RationalRegi yeah i can confirm they do it, its like specifically at 20:30 in game time and last for roughly 15 seconds, its pretty creepy as if they realised the Sun going down will make them stronger
@@RationalRegi oh also another cool detail is before you fix the telecommunications antenna for rais your radio has a bit of static, but after you fix it there's no static.
@@Bartek2750 I think it's less creepy if you imply they understand powering up, and way more creepy to consider they are still sentient enough to marvel at the sunset, meaning the zombies we've been fighting (Including Rahim etc.) Have to be aware enough to understand what is happening, yet have no control over their actions. That's far worse than zombies internally going "It's showtime"
Agreed. There was barely any attention paid to the infected in the second game. I get that in the context of the story, zombies have become the "norm" of everyday life, but that doesn't change the fact that the VNC Tower hyped up potential new zombie encounters, and failed to deliver.
In the 2nd game you are over powered zombies was no issues just running around whomping them no problem. In the first game, the night time caused a lot of anxiety and fear
One thing that you didn’t say about DL1 is the Brecken. If you notice,Brecken uses a bandage in his head every time,in the beginning you think he just had an accident, but if you see the DL1 trailer, you see Brecken and some people chasing an air drop and passing around some places, and slowly losing some people in the way,and when he finally go to the air drop,he is bonked in the head by some guy,and in the game, you see him saying that he loses his members and some Rais member knocked him and stole the air drop from him. That was the first time i see a trailer from a game being part of the plot of the game.(and the music they chose for the trailer is perfect)
This. It's wonderful how they added that detail to the game, how the trailer connects with the game and makes canon what happened. And it's not a simple easter egg like in Dead Island 1 where the characters of the trailer appear as a cameo and that's it, but here the characters and the events of the trailer are really relevant to the game. And the music and cinematography of the trailer, no words... Too good, really one of the best trailers of the videogames.
Dl2 did this as well. In one of the trailers I forget which one but a guy falls from a high place and dies and you can find his corpse in game in the same spot from the trailer
Just listening to the eerie music from dying light 1 throughout this video truly made me remember how perfect it immersed me in the world. Dying light 2 truly failed to capture the realistic, gory, and terrifying atmosphere of the first game.
I'm glad you noticed. Though I didnt really intend for that to be the effect, I definitely felt these ambient sounds and even the ambient tracks were done far better in the first game
I totally agree, DL1 felt like devs genuinely cared about the title and wanted to make it as good as it could be whereas DL2 feels more like a generic game.
I agree it feels generic but that doesn't mean they don't care about the game they have loads of updates and have added and improved things since day 1 so saying that the devs don't care is in my opinion flawd
@@DonavonlookslikeaduckTikTok I don't doubt that there are people in the team who care about the game (especially since they're actively trying to fix it) but techland got alot bigger and chances are most of the new hires didn't care nearly as much about the game as the OGs, which heavily affected the quality and 'tightness' of the game.
@@cookiemunchers89 it's been a whole year and, from what I've seen the core problems are still there yet they have the fucking GALL to push "DLC" and cosmetic packs onto us as if they deserve financial support following a horrendous release. I don't think this is a new hire problem or size issue, the soul of the company and following game is dead
Yeah, just look at the sun (and moon) in both games. In 1 the sun moves through the sky and changes the sky color, ambience, shadow work and all are perfect (and at night the moon also follows a path which is cool and before it shows at the horizon and shines some light the night is really dark) but in 2 the sun has fixed positions through the day and only "moves" when at certain points is conveniently clouded and then just teleports to another fixed location in the sky, which is stupid and once you notice it it's just frustrating to even know that (and the moon just shows up like it is being materialized in the same spot every night and it remains there! No movement until it's time to "disappear" for the morning.)
One thing that occured to me as I finally finished 2 last night (man it really hit me towards the end how disappointing it is) is that dying light 1 captures that feeling of being outside in the hot baking sun all day vibe perfectly. I never got that feeling in 2 unfortunately. Also in general the color pallette in one is so much better, even down to the UI and box art.
I loved the vibe of the tower. It was a mix of cozy and desperate. Cozy because it’s a nice retreat from the zombies, there’s a nice view, and every room has its purpose/is detailed. Desperate because the medical ward is packed and people are walking around with their heads bandaged. Not to mention how cool it was to see Crane’s room be decorated with “trophies” as you complete main and side quests.
Dying Light 2's Music Hypes you up to go on an epic adventure while Dying Light 1 gives you this amazing but also depressing vibe wich synergizes well with the world, the zombies and the setting it has a fantastic mood
Dying Light 2's music doesn't fit the tone. Actually what is the done of the game? Deaf, probably (in terms of content, not just the music.. in fact the music, despite being a bit forgettable, as probably the best part of DL2)
And the fight music is a bop, especially the recent many fight music which makes you think that this is a massive, scary for that you have to beat with intelligence and tactics
What sucks is that the story was completely different from what was planned originally from Chris Avellone. Aiden shows up to villedor because he was infected and that villedor was considerably safer than anywhere else in the world. This could have brought so much more to the whole your choices matters, then what we got from the game now. Also there was no plan for Aiden to be looking for Mia, that was last minute planning after he was let go by techland. If Chris wasn't falsely accused of sexual harassment we might have gotten a good story for DL2 (As a side note, Chris took two of the women to court and proven his innocence, so hopefully he can go back to writing for video games again) I don't know if him leaving was also the reason why gameplay was completely hollow, but I do know that the team had no idea what they were doing, and there was so much mismanagement that they couldn't even have a cutsecene ready at the end of the game! Also, techland did confirm that Crane did infact escape the quarantine zone and infect people outside the wall. But seeing how the thv was made, it is possible that the gre had used Crane as a catalyst for the thv.
I didnt even realize Chris was working on DL2 and got booted due to false allegations, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. I'd rather buy from a studio that stands by innocent until proven guilty and they end up wrong, than buy from a studio that turned their back on someone due to false allegations and makes no public apology for doing so when the truth comes out. ESPECIALLY after Zoe Quinn lied and drove Alec to suicide.
@Rav3n Chris did state that he understood why the companies let him go, and he doesn't hold anything against them. I can understand as well as why they had to let him go, manly due to bad plablicity and not enough info to hold him. But I still agree that the companies should at least apologize to him and give him an offer to work with them again.
@Rav3n Also looked into zoe quinn and Alec because I haven't heard about this before. But yea, she needs to be held responsible for his suicide and be behind bars and anyone else who makes up false accusations just to get rid of someone.
@@somehomelessguy3779 yeah I understand why they let him go too and it's good that he doesn't hold ill will toward them. It's frustrating nonetheless, to watch an innocent persons life and career go up in flames due to some clout chasing cunts.
Something I haven’t heard a lot of people talk about is the difference in safe areas. In DL1 it feels like the safe areas are made by survivors and are totally possible. Each one is unique and provides variety and immersion in the game In DL2 however it’s always the same, seeing a giant windmill on top of a building is very unrealistic and bland. Once you do one you’ve done them all. And the night runner outposts don’t do any good job in saving them. The variety in safe areas really makes exploration so much more interesting and immersive.
@@marioescabi2529 copy pasting safe zones and everything else aside, the freaking zombies are chilling one floor below! Unbelievably stupid to let something that wants to chomp you apart to just be.
its insane to me, that the staple of the series, the volatile chases at night, were simply cut. In the first night chase sequence in DL 2 i was dumbstruck when there wasn't a single volatile and you are chased by regular zombies. The system with the different chase levels is so unnecessary and ridiculously easy
And redundant and pointless. I use it now to just get my big boys to spawn and then just preced to beat them with a bat cause they are not scary thier only scary when you smack one thinking it's a normal zombie casue sadly they look boring as hell and blend way to much into the whole map
I think they did too good of a job making the first night chase in DL1 too scary so apparently a ton of people never went out at night so maybe that's why they changed it so you go at night more but made the game worst
I hated the whole chase levels thing, it also completely ruins your immersion and constantly pulls you out of the tension by reminding you that youre in a game. DL2 has way too much unnecessary clutter in the UI that would have been better if left simple like in DL1
One thing I think no one talks about are the health bars and how bad they are like dying light 1 the lack of health bars helped convey the feeling of a frantic fight for your life Edit: thanks to Jay Jay i figured out I'm dumb
The lack of health bars in DL1 is amazing, this is my first playthrough with the enhanced edition(thank you Epic) and the feeling of not knowing if you actually killed an infected or not is so immersive, because you dont know if when you turn around, the dead person will still be standing
I remember playing Dying Light with a friend of mine. He never played the game and was doubtful that he would like it. After convincing him, he bought the game and launched it. He was surprised of what it had to offer. We both started new games and after the introduction we started the best gaming session we had in a while. I already played the game for about 200 hours so I had a good idea of what is to come. My friend, on the other hand, had no idea. During the mission when you have to destroy the antizen to force a meeting with Rais. I can see my friend running away from a horde of infected and a volatile close on his tail. As I covered him with UV flares and used firecrackers we managed to get really close to the Tower. But regardless of my efforts he gets jumped by a volatile. I then save my friend and he runs to the tower and I proceeded to get jumped by the same volatile. We both make it home. Later in our play session I showed him what's in store once you reach end game. I gave my friend a 2 handed sword that did some stupid amount of damage (If memory servers it was something like 2000 dmg but I can be wrong). And he cleaved through crowds like it was nothing. Then I showed him the Easter eggs and some other weapons I had in store. Needless to say we had so much fun playing Dying light. If I could erase my memory and play that game like a newbie, I would do that in a heartbeat.
I realized after 8 hours or so of playing that this was something special so I started to go as slow as I could getting through the game as I didn't want it to end. Only bad thing about DL1 is the sadness you feel when it is over as you can never go back and have that experience again.
@@jesusisking8502fr. Played it 2 times . Can’t bring myself to play it because I know how it goes. Dying light 2 is a parkour game with zomebies. DL1 was a zombie game ..
lol I went one better, I slowed right down but it got more and more special as I went so I knew this was going to be a once in a lifetime game so I totally restarted. It took me months to finish playing up to 12 hours a day. Sadly it came to an end. :(
Love the fact that zombies in DL1 sometimes regain a bit of humanity, calling for help or mercy for an instant before losing control and going back to there aggressive zombie behaviour. Makes you feel kinda bad.
In DL1, I really appreciated Rias as he was so easy to hate. His cliched villainy, edgy monologues and lack of nuance was a breathe of fresh air, as it was almost comical how evil he was. Made for a very satisfying ending when Crane asked Rias, who was bleeding out from a knife wound and was still monologuing to "just shut up".
Alot of devs don't realize that sometimes the best enemy is one you can easily hate. Not every bad guy has to have a nuanced, and tragic backstory. Sometimes bad guys can just be evil fucks that are easy to hate. Destiny 2 and bungie are fucking that up. Every damn bad person has a tragic backstory and its annoying. Sometimes its nice just to be like "yeah they are being an evil piece if shit, kill em"
Yup, me myself just screaming "enough with your pseudo-philosophical BS!" to rais. Fun fact: Rais mean Leader in Arabic. But Harran is in Turkey I guess they were trying to portray him as sort of Hitler ( Fuhrer = leader )
You can really tell that the decisions made when making dl2 were done specifically to attract a wider audience and hopefully make bank. They easily could have made a sequel that improved on everything from dl1 that would make the fans ecstatic . . . but the profit motive was clearly too strong and they caved and made a sequel that watered down features, made things more generic, and turned the game into something more "approachable" for a new audience
What you're saying is totally true. I haven't played the second game that much yet but it seems they made the difficulty easier and all the fun things to do got much worse compared to DL1 where I could spend hours roaming, almost entirely exploring and looting together with killing zombies.
Havent played DL2, but I noticed the zombies have a life bar above them. I hate this visual resource, its looks silly. Maybe the reason is to atract more audience.
Actually, if you read some early statements from the devs they state that they didn't want to "just make more of the same, but better" they wanted to "improve the game in every way from the original and more." This overzealous, egotistical way of thinking cost them in the long run. If they had just stuck to their guns, and not been so indecisive with the games direction it would've been a completely different story. I don't understand that philosophy. Why would you not want to just refine your already existing aspects? The devs at Techland are genuinely baffling sometimes.
As much as I had anticipated the release of DL2 and enjoyed the game play, I haven't picked it up to replay it since a year ago. DL1 on the other hand I've replayed 3 times and the Following twice.
There's just something grittily photorealistic about the graphics of the First Dying light compared to the second, especially in outdoor areas in the town. It may not have the city area size of the sequel, but it makes up for it with neighborhoods densely packed with hordes of walkers, cars, power lines, multi-tiered rooftops and highly populated interiors. I think Dying Light 2's environments are spread out over too large an area for them to have packed it with as much detail as the environments in the first game, and even if it has all the technical advancements over the first game including Ray Tracing, it is a bit too colorful and doesn't sell the photorealistic illusion as well as the first. Graphically impressive yes, but not as photorealistic as the first Dying Light's desaturated look.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human should have had us playing as Crane once more, struggling with being a now sentient volatile. Crane would mostly be attacked by most groups of people, and would have to wear a disguise both to block UV light and stop him from being attacked on sight. While Crane would be more powerful, and would have access to inhuman abilities, at night or in dark areas you would instead be hunted by human NPCs and would be rewarded for killing them. I think we could give Crane some of the Nighthunter abilities with level ups and stuff, including the tentacles. While it definitely has flaws, and would be a much different game, I think it would ultimately be a much better sequel.
They tip-toed into this territory with Aiden in some respects, but I wish they had also done this somewhat with Crane. Like you say: A bit of a different game depending on how deep they wanna go into it, but I think it'd have been such a superior game
@@RationalRegi I mean there was so much missed potential! Personally I think a playing as a sentient volatile and being hunted having to avoid roaming bands of hunters would be sick. Not to mention narrativly they really could have dug into what it means to be human, and how Crane would have had to deal with the strange situation he was in.
When I heard dying light 2 had the tag line "Stay human" I was expecting a direct follow up. The volotile ending is canon and you play as Crane struggling to survive his infection. I didn't really think about how night would work as that is when he loses all control. Still did anyone else expect it to be all about Crane due to it being called stay human? The first game was very realistic in the fact that we could see actual children among the survivors which is rare if not completely absent from most zombie games. There is even a young girl early in the story you an rescue from a closet but if you don't you can come back later and the closet would instead be full of blood. I didn't play the second but did it have children? I'm guessing it probably didn't
IIRC Crane calls for a runner to pick up the little girl in the closet, meaning unfortunately theres probably no correlation between the girl and the blood apart from being in the same location
Spike trained aiden. Spike learned from harran survivors. And considering pilgrims exist, its reasonable to assume parkour was taught to other survivors because its an effective way to stay alive, a book or manual could have been put together and traded to other settlement through pilgrims.
The shame of it is that none of this is actually explained in-game. Its all assumption, and not concrete evidence. Its just the same as me assuming the independent survivors taught him how to do parkour. And If Spike did train Aiden (which he shouldnt have been able to considering the opening cutscene says everyone in Harran died), then why is Aiden not a master of parkour at the beginning of the game? Why does he have to learn parkour skills as he progresses. In Dying Light 1 I can comfortably assume Crane learns his parkouring skills via Brecken and Jade's Brother, because they're parkour experts. In Dying Light 2, theres several different theories I can craft as to how Aiden learns to parkour, but no real hard evidence. Thats the problem
@@RationalRegi exactly, though the one thing I can credit the game for is that the survivors a whole decade after an apocalypse would surely know how to survive in such an environment and so them having parkour and fighting skills is realistic. what isn't realistic however is completing a mini-camp parkour puzzle thing causes those people TO SOMEHOW TELEPORT AND FABRICATE A WHOLE CAMP WITH ANIMALS AND INFRASTRUCTURE. in DL1 you went to a ruined safe zone, killed everything within, and turned on some lights to reclaim it, no magic, no instant immersion breakage, and you often got really cool environmental storytelling
Additionally, at the beginning of the second game, Aiden can fight and do parkour, but he would be reset back to basic stats after the Volatile bite: Like we could drop kick and other fun stuff when fighting the Banshee, but then Aiden would have to take more inhibitors and invest in the Stamina stat to be able to do that again after entering Villedor. That always rubbed me the wrong way: If Aiden could do parkour and fight competently, then being bitten by a Volatile should not make much, if any, difference whatsoever.
@@RationalRegi well you are assuming is also never shown in the game. This is a dumb critique. Its a game with a skill tree in a zombie apocalypse. Not everything needs to be explained its a damn video game. Dont get me wrong Dl1 is better but lets not act like dl2 is all bad and dl1 is perfect. Both games have some things better than the other one except dl1 is also more polished and jas more content because of the almost deflcade support it has received
DL1 is probably one of my favourite games to come out during the mid 2010’s. yes, 2015 had some good games, but when i think of that year for gaming, i think of Dying Light, every god damn time.
One thing about DL1 is ehen you repair a weapon, there will be actual reinforcements on the weapon, like a sheet of metal, and the weapon will appear damaged depending on how low it's durability is, like 3/4 its will apear slightly damaged, if its half damaged it will appear more bent/broken, if its almost broken it will be very damaged and if its broken or ineffective, it will be broken, bent blade, broken off pieces or just full on broken
realizing now that Crane would have been a awesome secondary antagonist but knowing how 2 felt and was written especially pre-firearm update, he probably would have been handled badly
I feel like DL1 allowed you to earn weapons that made the night time easier to traverse and even takes a LOT of the edge off. The presence of firearms really opens the game up to a multitude of opportunities. It allows you to master the night without just running away. I've stood my ground against volatiles with a buddy of mine and actually WON. We lasted to the end of the night. Lost all our ammo but it felt realistic. DL2 just makes night time hard and doesn't give you a way to really fight back. Plus BTZ is amazing. Wish I had gotten into it back in its hay day.
One of the things that makes Dying Light 1 better is how the gameplay of the parkour works so well with the environment, because the streets and the buildings are so closely packed together and the streets aren't far away from one another, makes parkpur traversal so smooth and quick and your movement and gameplay blends so well with the zombies, especially once the volatile begin chasing you, you really have to think about what you're doing, you can't just run straight otherwise they'll catch you, it begins a fast paced game of cat and mouse where you are the mouse, and there's alot of small spaces that you can crawl into, but the volatile are able to follow you and move almost just as well as you when running around and through buildings.
@@Raghallach-Bell same principles with the environment but not with the zombies. Dying lights environment only works because of the zombies. It just doesn't have that overrun feeling like the first one did.
Honestly this video is perfect, it accurately describes the frustration not only you and me had when DL2 first released, but also for everyone else. One thing that I believe a lot of people forget is that Techland released a comic describing how two scientists were developing a cure IIRC that had a 62% success rate but ultimately became infected before they could complete it and she hid it in a necklace and gave it to someone else who also became infected but became the Banshee you see in DL2 so the cure is in a necklace around the Banshees neck for some reason. The bloody VNC tower mission was a nightmare and will be the standout mission where I lost all immersion and hope in the game, I still remember to this day messaging you early in the morning before work saying that I had completed it and was utterly disappointed in it. The entire story of DL2 reminds me of the end of TellTales walking dead season 1 where all your efforts are for nothing. I couldn't agree more on the point you made about certain areas in game having an explanation for them, the death barriers of THV in DL2 made practically no sense since Veronica gave you a suppressant for it, why can't we have that in game? In DL1 as you showed, at the edge of the bridge was a medical ward with lots of medkits and medical supplies, risk to reward in gameplay but makes sense for it to be there as survivors would need medical treatment. Im also glad you mentioned the noises and the ambience of DL1 because it makes the world that us the player is in way more immersive, hearing the survivors make metallic clanks as their weapons drop and hearing their cries of pain grounds you in a world were any moment could be your last and us the player should be thankful for that, I remember mentioning it to you as well that the atmosphere in The Following is fantastic, with the ambient noise coupled with the sun being high in the sky I can almost feel the warmth it gives off (Ironic giving the significance of the sun in the story). The combat in DL1 is amazing, and through enough time I was able to figure out a few little nicks with it, if you use a two handed blunt weapon and want to strike downwards on an upright zombie all you have to do is just jump and swing, and if you want to ignore the cooldown between swings you just have to use the grapple hook. Id like to also mention that with the combat in both games, in DL1 I play on Nightmare which is the hardest difficulty in which I have about 500 hours in, the night time is more intense in the first game and actually provides little hope for newer players and experienced players know that it is also challenging but are far more equipped to deal with it, even then I still struggle time to time with the Volatiles as they can overwhelm you and UV bars/Lights are more useful than in DL2, in DL2 you have AN ABUNDANCE of UV and UV safe zones, I also play on the highest difficulty in DL2 and I find it to be SIGNIFICANTLY easier than in the first game. You said it perfectly, the Howlers replacing the roaming Volatiles was pathetic and made it less scarier and you also made a great point about the Immunity in DL2. By the time you've gotten to Old Villedor which is about halfway through your immunity will be at a point where its not a worry, I never worry about it either, because I have almost 30 minutes of it before it does anything and even then if I am in a bad situation I just throw down a UV bar and it restores it fully. Honestly, the Korek charm did not need to be changed at all; First of all, you NEED the grappling hook AND the paraglider both of which are only unlocked in the SECOND HALF of the game, two, you need to actually get to the second half of the game, it cost more time to get there than it did in DL1. The equivalent in DL1 was the set amount of repairs you could have on your weapon, higher tier weapon meant more repairs and therefore had a limit on it. Further down the line if you wanted to reset your weapon repairs you had to find a guy in the slums with a blue shield icon and escort him to a safe house then he'll repair your weapons, he RARELY spawns and its challenging to help him. Oh my god the ABUNDANCE of technical issues on release with DL2 was shocking, constant crashes, Denuvo anti cheat implemented DAYS before release and actually decreasing performance, my older spec'd system that genuinely had Steam recommended specs to run the game at recommended settings which is usually 1080p60fps medium-high, i could BARELY get 60-70 fps on a good day and as you said my current system barely gets above 120 FPS on maxed out settings and even lowering them only nets me around a 5-6% increase in FPS, in DL1 as I mentioned when we were getting gameplay I was getting 300fps CONSTANTLY on ULTRA settings, even when we were camping out in that building with all the particles and bodies left over and oh my fucking god I legit couldn't stop laughing when you said you crashed it was such a joke, first I go invisible then you crash it was just a domino effect waiting to happen. Btw love the little catjam at the end with the Following theme it is truely a banger.
I read this whole essay. A* stuff. I probably forgot to mention that no weapon in DL1 is ever infinitely repairable, and tbf i kinda like that. It actually makes the mod blueprints you craft useful, and keeps you spending your resources instead of having them infinitely repair by a charm, but thats what an easter egg charm should be: something op.
that moment in DL1 when u go for the antizin drop and the volatiles chase you down (you dont have any any skill at that point) is one of the most terrifying experiences ever.............
Also you were literally going up a hill while running away from the volatiles. Could you imagine tryna hike up a mountain while a viscous mountain lion tries to nab you? Closed my multiple times and just accepted death 😂😂
hmm. I never got the grapple as I feared it would ruin the immersion and difficulty of the game. Kept the game interesting for myself and earned my escapes through actual parkour and dropkicks :D. But I did fully abuse the head smashing ability and mostly used melee in game.
If DL2 hadn't had such a rough time in the oven and being rewritten, I feel like it would've been as good if not better than DL1. The E3 trailer for DL2 feels like a game we never got.
DL2 tries to be a Benchmark game that barely runs properly on old tech, while DL1 could technically run on most rigs with every setting on LOW while still keeping a very good image quality. that was the sole reason why i never played longer than 2 hours of DL2.
I agree with you on that I'd say the best like zombie/infected games would possibly be in my opinion: 1: Left 4 Dead 2 2: Dying Light 3: Black Ops 1 Zombies 4: Dead Rising 2 Off the record 5: Plants Vs. Zombies
@@LPHGUYBB Yeah but FIVE and COTD are are fun as hell however I saw the remaster on BO3 better than all the base remasters honestly it had so much to offer.
After seeing the reviews for Dead Island 2 I have to say Dying Light from 2015 has an amazing story, parkour, incredible physics, real open world and an amazing horror feeling when you are out on a mission and it's getting dark. Sorry but Dying Light was the real spiritual successor of Dead Island improving upon every single facet of the original game, it's sad that they did not manage to keep the same quality on Dying Light 2
Its super impressive as someone who just started it this week on my new pc as I got it for free. It's aged incredibly well and playing it 4k at 120hz is a super satisfying experience. Genuinely blown away by how impressive this is for it's age.
What sold me was "day is for the humans, night is for the zombies" i had really expected to find little to no zombies in the game but plenty of humans that may be trying to spread their factions influence imagine instead of a bunch of zombies, a bunch of humans are fighting eachother and it makes a dynamically Changing faction system.
Such a shame. DL1 became one of my favorite games of that year and one of my all-time favorites. I was excited for DL2 after playing DL1 at release. The idea of an expansive city where the layout can change and you can align with certain factions. I was hyped despite the long development. Then the reviews came out, and I just didn’t even bother. It’s a bummer, but I suspect something went very wrong in development. Tech land is a good studio, I can’t imagine they’d screw up this bad without some internal issues.
For me, the worst part of DL2 is just how much Techland over sold mechanics that ended up being very boring. "NEW ZOMBIES!" You mean the same few spots that a special zombie spawns? "A STORY YOU CAN AFFECT!" Aw yes, those 5 specific choices! "YOU CAN AFFECT THE WORLD!" So the flooded city, just that? "BETTER NIGHT EXPLORATION!" So interiors are stupid easy, and night time has lost all fear? "NEW FACTIONS!" You mean the main 3, and the Suppliers who are just forgotten? I wouldn't mind it tbh, if they didn't act these features were WAY BIGGER than they actually. They overpromised, and then didn't deliever.
(Not related to the critique) When I first started the game I was struggling on a open server world and a kid walked up to me and asked: "Do you need a wepon?" I answered yes and he dropped his entire inventory of various dlc legendary wepons and quit the world. I was In pure awe and the spectacle, Around the time i beat the game my dad told me he would be taking the Xbox and selling it for a Playstation 4 after my parents split and I could play at his house. I knew what needed to be done. I carried on the boys legacy and sought out new players as fast as I could to give as many of them legendary wepons. If you're seeing this kid, thanks. I don't own an Xbox anymore but if you recognize my old gamertag it would bring me indescribable joy. Thank you, -Killer08Spartan
The biggest mistake for dying light 2 was that they changed physics engine in the 2nd game and the physics in the first game is what made the combat so fun the 2nd game had better parkour but far less enjoyable combat again due to the changing of the engine and physics. They should have kept the engine from the first game and just updated along the year's with new entries don't know what they where thinking ditching such a perfect engine for a zombie game.
Dying Light is a masterpiece. Dying Light 2 is an unfinished mess. Why did they have to fix what wasn't broken. I want a proper sequel to the original and DL2 isn't it....not even close.
@@RationalRegi Only problem is it has no real relationship to the original...only in name. It's pure crap published unfinished which Techland lied about, still unfinished as of a year later...how is this even acceptable to anyone who pays 60.00 for a half baked lie? Have some pride in your work gamemakers....good grief already. Or charge what it's worth and warn people it's a work in progress that may never satisfy.
@@Morphoidism Totally untrue. I played Dying Light from day 1 and you are wrong on every count. It was tweaked like most games, however it was very much playable. Dying Light 2 is still not finished how long after release? Your just another fake named shill for the game makers. Like giving 60.00 for a game in progress, sold as a lie.
I played and beat DL1 and the Following about 7 times across PC and console, solo and coop. Can't even bring myself to complete 2 solo, it just gets boring to me after a few minutes while I recently started playing 1 again and flew through 3 hours without noticing. The combat in 2 is absolutely better but traversal doesn't have the same feeling, I feel more restricted and like I NEED certain gadgets and upgrades vs 1 where you don't need really anything else but to actually just find a path.
A detail I love is the tower itself. The fact that every side-quest adds a little detail to your room is cool but the thing I love the most is that the tower is visible almost anywhere on the map. So if your ever lost and don’t know where to go you can just look on the horizon to see the tower and run to it with out breaking immersion to look at the map
I just got the ultimate edition on sale, was playing dl2 until I decided to refresh on dl1 again and my god it’s just so much better. DL1 is an incredible story with great lineups of side quests that tie in. DL2 just seems like a bunch of random events being thrown at you at all times
There was a very good comment that I saw and the comment basically said dying light one is a zombie game with parkour in it while dying light 2 is a parkour game with zombies
I can see where they're coming from. A lot of the skills to do with parkour in the first game tied it to combat, because that's what you were doing most of the time. In DL2 there are so many parkoir moves that have absolutely no ties to combat, which sucks
The reason why crane gets better at parkour and combat that have him learn new moves (some of which synergize with each other) is because as he spends more time in Harran, he begins to adapt to his surroundings. I saw some comments talking about other people teaching Crane parkour despite this literally never happening in the game. The entire reason why you get experience in the game for each parkour move you do, or each time you hit a zombie (and this is gonna sound really obvious) is because Crane learns from each time he does this. All of these compound into a new skill point that would allow him to learn a new and better way to adapt to the Harran virus.
I just finished Dying Light 2's main story a few days ago, and watching this video is how I found out that the Volatiles were not originally patrolling around at night when the game first came out. That would have been such a disappointment if I got this game at launch.
The main problem i think ruins DL2 is the focus on different aspects. DL1 was a zombie game, with good parkour and a good story. Whereas DL2 was a story game, with parkour and some zombies, usually that wouldnt be a problem if they had actually gotten then story and the parkour right, instead, we ended up with a game with a botched story, glitchy parkour, and horrible focus on zombies. Dying light one fixed its focus more on the zombies, (which were optimized pretty much perfectly) but still made sure to make the parkour and story very enjoyable. Thats the difference for me
Yeah I can see what you mean. I'm sure if they kept with the original vision for DL2, there wouldnt have actually been an issue with the story. But that just seems to be where all of this game's problems originate. And even if they smooth out everything else, theres still the limp story that they cant exactly patch in, lol
After DL 2 atleast 1 is more appreciated. Also I find it funny they built DL 2 to not include guns (with a dumb reason) and then lately they just half hazardly dropped them in a sidequest again just to appeal to DL 1 fans "plz come back!"
Dying Light 2 isn’t a bad game. Problem is it just tried to be things it didn’t need to be. The drawn out RPG-lite system took all the flow out of the game and made your feel like the game was a checklist rather than an experience. I’m so like the game now especially with the all additional content they’ve added
Great analysis! I think one category that was worth a mention is music. DL1 perfectly captures the hopeless atmosphere in many areas and ramps up appropriately for other emotions conveying hope, fear, and danger. I particularly loved the music for The Following dlc because something about it felt like you’re breathing fresh air compared to the city, but there’s still something off about it. Relevant given the use of gas here.
The thing I like about the original dying light is the emphasis at the start on trying to avoid confrontation and stay above street level, you don’t feel necessarily superhuman and you’ll only be able to take a few zombies at a time if lucky, creating a desperate atmosphere to every combat situation
I roleplay in Dying Light with my own made up story whereas in 2 it feels so arcadey it's hard to actually role play. It feels too unrealistic weirdly i cannot explain it
I could never be afraid during the night because I had so many weapons that I could kill just about anything with bombs, also the infection system is useless because in early game it was so easy to prevent it that I never struggled.
There have been moments in dying light 2 where the volitiles in closed spaced do not care about the UV light, I was in a room with 3 and my UV flare did not act as a deterrent
Couldn't agree more, DL1 was much much better. No other zombie game can match the atmosphere of DL1. I still clearly remember my first playthrough when you exit the tower for the first time and the sun blinds you. Then you see the empty and desolated city in front of you. There are no zombies at first but as you begin walking towards the objective you see all of the abandoned cars, and houses. And then you hear them before you see them. Growling somewhere behind walls and buildings. Amazing!!! Best zombie game by far.
The excuse most people give is "techland takes time to update, in time dying light 2 will be great". But that's the thing, Dying Light 1 may have benefitted from the updates but the game was in a pretty good state on launch, dying light 2 needed like what 2 years of updates after release to make the nights scary, like bro come on... the game is literally called Dying Light, that's the first thing you should work on
Dl1 has had constant updates that bring to to par with most modern games and runs on a stable engine. Dl2 is on a new engine starting from scratch which is still very new
Dying light 1 was one of the first games to hold my attention long enough to finish as an adult. I was going to get dying light 2, but life has gotten in the way. Sad to see it doesn’t have the same spirit. I’ll wait for dlc and some reviews I guess.
I like honestly like the second game, the story nosedives after you move to central loop (dying light version of old town), the parkour in the second game is superb once you learn all the tricks and are able to chain everything together, the combat moves are also improved compared to the first game. The problem is the animations are clunky, the parkour isn’t fluid enough I guess? The tried to introduce the dead island class system and if you get good enough gear it actually works quite well, but the problem is getting that gear because it’s completely RNG dependent. But the devs are listening to the community and they have announced updates to everything from animations to the night system (making it more scary like in the first game) and later this year the following 2.0 is scheduled to release. The game isn’t bad but in it’s current state it is a bit of a disappointment. I’m hopeful especially after the 2 community updates which improved the game and added new animations. But one aspect which will never be good is the story, but honestly DL1 didn’t have a great story either, it is worse this time around.
@@thejamemes6758 The Following 2 was certainly something I'd look forward too, and would potentially stomach another playthrough of the second game to experience. But I've said this to others in that it does just feel as though these community updates just bring the 2nd game up to the standards of the first game. Perhaps it'll be better, but i'd have to revisit after everything is implemented.
@@RationalRegi I agree it's a disappointing site to see from the fleshed out game aka dl 1 to the bone dl 2 I would say it's not bad enough to have stomach through it likes it's a chore BUT that's my opinion we all have different perspectives
They mentioned that there were multiple cities that where infected like herran even 2 takes place in one of those cities. And they said that saying everyone had died in herran was a cover up. You can even find a newspaper speaking about people still being stuck in the city way past the first game. Meaning the new form of infection came from crane as his infection is severely restricted by sunlight. It’s even pondered if the zombies can still think or remember who they were. We can even think their avoidance of sunlight is them not wanting to face the horror of what they’ve become.
Wasn't the whole point of a turned Crane that he was a sentient volatile in the same way as the Mother? Techland dropped the ball not giving us an expansion or DLC featuring zombie Crane. This development could have led to some very interesting gameplay...😢
To add to the night time. Night in DL1 was also Dark as fuck which of course made it even more threatening as even with the flashlight, you couldn't always see what was ahead
Totally agree with this video. I can still get enjoyment out of dying light 2, but there is absolutely no fear throughout the night or anything. The music and tone and general vibe more make you feel like a superhero than a survivor grinding up skill. The volatiles and overall ragdoll physics just don't match the first game. I mean everyone knows this it's just relieving to point it out lol When you're that hyped for a comparative disappointment, it really is a letdown when you have a set standard.
I also think they could have made the day/night better by not changing it. Just remove the option to sleep through it! They said they were upset about people choosing not to adventure at night because there wasn’t much incentive to do so. Well, giving them the choice of hiding inside until morning, which would be tedious and boring, or just going out to keep progressing despite the night time would be better. More people would choose to explore, rather than be AFK inside until morning. But being able to sleep made everyone just be like “might as well sleep till morning 🤷🏻♂️”
There was no incentive because the volatiles will absolutely curb stomp you if you get into a chase with that. Especially if you're low-mid leveled. Going out at night only becomes a viable option once you reach the end game, have higher tier weapons, and unlocked all the upgrades.
@@LeaveMeAloneFBI The volatiles really aren't that dangerous lol, you can go every night unnoticed pretty easily. Even if you turn the map of your survivor sense is enough to avoid the volatiles. It was a fun engaging mechanic with a small reward, the second game should have kept that.
Better incentives would be better. In DL1 I liked going for the airdrops at night. Plus the airdrops gave you items to help you survive night easier. Risk/reward payout DL2 there is nothing I want to do at night thats worth it. Especially when you have the UV death timer ticking down constantly. And if you accidentally step in the toxic goop that timer gets eaten straight to hell. Night in DL2 just feels tedious and boring due to the lack of any real goal at night. Compared to DL1 that had a goal of night time, dl2 lacks a goal
@@STARSRav3n I think the game needs a combination. DL1's night was too easy and gave too much of a reward. DL2 should have some really cool rewards at night but make it actually scary, it should be able to surpass DL1 depending on how well they implement the roaming volatiles.
They should’ve just had the connection between Dying Light 1 and 2 be where Crane ends up escaping the decontamination zone and ends up spreading the virus in a much deadlier way as he took the potion from the mother which changed his abilities and made the viruses effects even worse. This way the developers could have easily explained different zombie varieties between the first and second game and while cranes canon ending would have been tragic and led to an even worse series of events leading to Dying Light 2, they could have easily used story elements to sow the two games together and maybe aiden would have been able to find crane after learning the events of the first game. It’s such a tremendous missed opportunity and seems like such a simple one that works really well when you really think about it!
Just because dl2 is bigger. That doesn’t mean it’s better. Dying light 1 was so immersive and felt more like a zombie apocalypse simulator while dying light 2 feels like a zombie apocalypse video game. And the player count shows that.
The Following was insane!!! The addition of the dune buggy was the cherry on top and so was the new breed of volatile they introduced, that was specific to the countryside.
you forgot to mention how you can play as the zombie and attack other players at night added to the fear and seeing things from another prospective, with special mechanics and absolutely amazing PVP in a most PVE game that rewarded both of you, making the horror REAL if you optimize in to it
Subnautica and dyling light both unexpectedly released masterpieces. Then proceeded to release sequels that werent ass, but were much worse and missed the point
The music, end of the world immersion and ambience of Dying Light 1 is soo unique and literally unbeatable, GOATED top 10 game of all time 😩😩😩, DL1 and TLOU 1 are easily the best zombie games of all time…
I remember my brother bought me DL1 when it came out, I had no clue what it was thinking it was going to be a generic game. I guess I was wrong, this game has a special place in my heart, its one of those games that just brings you nothing but nostalgia. Still play it til this day
Just finished playing Dying Light haven't played it for years and I dare say the first are way better than the second it has so much details and realistic not to mention the volatiles are stupid fast and very relentless pursuing you it's like Dying Light 2 is for beginners while the first is a masterpiece
I loved the first Dying Light story too. Secret agent entering the quarantine zone, then turning against the corrupt government? Hell yea. Then when I started Dying Light 2, as soon as I heard "I gotta find my sister", my eyes rolled back, and I thought "great, it's gonna be one of THOSE stories". I was fully expecting some sort of intense twist, but I basically wandered around back stabbing each faction without consequence, then your sister died. No crazy twist halfway through to drive you further lmao
Another thing about DL1 night time that I haven’t heard anyone talk about is how dark it gets once it turns night time, if you turn your flashlight off your ability to see just disappears and adds to the horror of the night even more. You can have your flashlight off and be in total darkness only to hear the howl of a volatile as it comes speeding towards you. Terrifying
Don't know about DL2, but you couldn't effectively "Pause" the game by hitting Esc. If you were out in the open, you'd still be attacked even if you are in the Pause screen.
They almost feel like two different games. Dying Light 1 felt like an intense survival horror, and Dying Light 2 just feels like Far Cry with zombies.
yea lmao
Kinda, yeah

YOOO I never knew they did that. I gotta see this for myself at some point
@@KryptoKn8 that is also a reasonable explanation but i think thats kinda more sad than creepy
That dreaded sound of Cranes watch alarm going off still gets me even after nearly 9 years of playing the game.

I feel like every zombie interaction felt meaningful in dying light 1. In dying light 2 zombies just felt like background noise
Agreed. There was barely any attention paid to the infected in the second game. I get that in the context of the story, zombies have become the "norm" of everyday life, but that doesn't change the fact that the VNC Tower hyped up potential new zombie encounters, and failed to deliver.
As many people said.
DL1 is a zombie game with parkour, DL2 is a parkour game with zombies
In the 2nd game you are over powered zombies was no issues just running around whomping them no problem. In the first game, the night time caused a lot of anxiety and fear
@@RationalRegiun Fortunately that's what happened in the walking dead show
Agreed, DL2 felt like DULL world to me compared to DL1
"We created the perfect wheel"
TECHLAND LEAD DEV: "Great! Now lets innovate on that. I'm thinking a hexagon could work really well"
One thing that you didn’t say about DL1 is the Brecken.
Run boy run, running is a victory...
That music is sick
perfect music? Its Magnificent

@@RationalRegi almost everybody who worked on dying light 1, were fired or left and never seen the sequel
Why do people keep saying "realistic"? There is nothing realistic about anything, especially music.

I totally agree, DL1 felt like devs genuinely cared about the title and wanted to make it as good as it could be whereas DL2 feels more like a generic game.
Its a pretty apt way to put the two games. I agree that DL2 definitely feels generic, as though not as much love and care was put into it.
I agree here, especially in the countryside where the sun is always on you.

@@fookinkoont Woah, holy shit lol that was trippy. Hell yeah man right back at ya! 👉👉
I loved the vibe of the tower. It was a mix of cozy and desperate. Cozy because it’s a nice retreat from the zombies, there’s a nice view, and every room has its purpose/is detailed. Desperate because the medical ward is packed and people are walking around with their heads bandaged. Not to mention how cool it was to see Crane’s room be decorated with “trophies” as you complete main and side quests.
in DL1, the more skills you unlock, the more fun it become to kill zombies. In DL 2, its a chore despite you have more skills available.
@@phattjohnson i disagree.Dl2 music actually makes sense it makes you feel like u are part of that new world and the parkour music is nuts too.

How poetic and tragic for a Polish studio to try to appeal to a wider audience and in turn release a product that lacks "polish".
Something I haven’t heard a lot of people talk about is the difference in safe areas.
In DL1 it feels like the safe areas are made by survivors and are totally possible. Each one is unique and provides variety and immersion in the game
In DL2 however it’s always the same, seeing a giant windmill on top of a building is very unrealistic and bland.
It was a bug, there's more volatiles than ever in DL2 now

Made for a very satisfying ending when Crane asked Rias, who was bleeding out from a knife wound and was still monologuing to "just shut up".

Lead guy was fired by some feminist over a false accusation and was replaced with some bozo mid way through development that explains everything
Havent played DL2, but I noticed the zombies have a life bar above them. I hate this visual resource, its looks silly. Maybe the reason is to atract more audience.
@@danielventura7310 You can remove the life bars in settings
Speaks for itself
Not to mention narrativly they really could have dug into what it means to be human, and how Crane would have had to deal with the strange situation he was in.
you got your wish dude
@@wiZrd0ne I remain skeptical, but it would seem so.
I'm guessing it probably didn't
there were children but nothing particularly dark was done with them besides an instance where a couple of them tried to eat a dog
There's some kid in DL2 that sends you on a long-winded mission to get a Music Box. I accidentally sold it before I got it back to her. Diddums.
Wow. Now i'm glad i saved that girl right away! Thank you for this information.
IIRC Crane calls for a runner to pick up the little girl in the closet, meaning unfortunately theres probably no correlation between the girl and the blood apart from being in the same location
Like the infection timer in Dead rising 2
Spike had some parkour training but I've never heard anywhere that Spike worked/functioned as a runner for the tower.
One thing about DL1 is ehen you repair a weapon, there will be actual reinforcements on the weapon, like a sheet of metal, and the weapon will appear damaged depending on how low it's durability is, like 3/4 its will apear slightly damaged, if its half damaged it will appear more bent/broken, if its almost broken it will be very damaged and if its broken or ineffective, it will be broken, bent blade, broken off pieces or just full on broken
realizing now that Crane would have been a awesome secondary antagonist
but knowing how 2 felt and was written especially pre-firearm update, he probably would have been handled badly
I had the same impression. Dying light 2 doesnt allow you to do much its limits your options drastically.
left 4 dying light
I love how the game becomes a big game of the floor is lava with parkour

Even after going through the story multiple times over in dying light 1
The 1st chase still makes me terrified.
The writing had to with the situation involving false allegations against the writer

Harran felt like a city actually needed to adjust to the whole virus thing while Villedor feels like it was build around it
Mad true point
Dying Light is a masterpiece. Dying Light 2 is an unfinished mess. Why did they have to fix what wasn't broken. I want a proper sequel to the original and DL2 isn't it....not even close.
Its suprising they managed to get out what they did, considering they literally scrapped their initial idea, and instead went for what it is now

It's cool too that Rais' tower is taller than the Survivors'. Makes his presence seem more imposing and far-reaching

It was the cannon ending either way
I just got the ultimate edition on sale, was playing dl2 until I decided to refresh on dl1 again and my god it’s just so much better.
I loved the rapid kick you can deliver to downed foes is DL1. You have to hold the block button to kick in DL2 and...I just hate it.
I said it once and ima say it again. Dying Light 1 knew what it was and what it wanted to be, which is why it turned out so damn good
After DL 2 atleast 1 is more appreciated.
Also I find it funny they built DL 2 to not include guns (with a dumb reason) and then lately they just half hazardly dropped them in a sidequest again just to appeal to DL 1 fans "plz come back!"
Thats when you know DL2 is worse
It feels too unrealistic weirdly i cannot explain it
Bet its "forced physics" for snappy parkour animations
But that's the thing, Dying Light 1 may have benefitted from the updates but the game was in a pretty good state on launch, dying light 2 needed like what 2 years of updates after release to make the nights scary, like bro come on... the game is literally called Dying Light, that's the first thing you should work on
Preach
Dl1 has had constant updates that bring to to par with most modern games and runs on a stable engine. Dl2 is on a new engine starting from scratch which is still very new
Dying light 1 was one of the first games to hold my attention long enough to finish as an adult. I was going to get dying light 2, but life has gotten in the way. Sad to see it doesn’t have the same spirit. I’ll wait for dlc and some reviews I guess.
If you've played the first, it'll definitely be a bit of a disappointment, even though the gameplay is somewhat similar

Played and finished both. Dying light 1 is the GOAT of zombie games.
I mean everyone knows this it's just relieving to point it out lol
When you're that hyped for a comparative disappointment, it really is a letdown when you have a set standard.
@@LeaveMeAloneFBIand that’s why I loved it ….
Better incentives would be better.
In DL1 I liked going for the airdrops at night. Plus the airdrops gave you items to help you survive night easier. Risk/reward payout
DL2 there is nothing I want to do at night thats worth it.
DL2 was so boring I actually skipped the story. In my over 3 decades of gaming, I virtually never do that. And I loved DL1.
I did the same thing and i game only for half of what you mentioned.
after dying light the beast comes out lets hope they make the crane ending make sense
What crazy is I got recommended this video after the new beast trailer with Kyle crane 💀
The Algorithm Knows O_O
Still playing Dying Light 1 to this day....right now...ZOMBIES RUN AWAY!
Just because dl2 is bigger. That doesn’t mean it’s better. Dying light 1 was so immersive and felt more like a zombie apocalypse simulator while dying light 2 feels like a zombie apocalypse video game. And the player count shows that.
The moment they fired Chris Avellone I knew that we were in trouble with DL2.
Still play it til this day
I'm just gonna pretend dying light 2 isn't canon
its not that bad what r u on?
this dood is speaking the truth in every way possible
Dying light 1 was perfect. I played it for nonstop hours back then I remember asking my dad to buy it. We need a remaster
You know the first game is so good that the good ending ends the series technically while the cannon bad ending results in a horrible sequel
One thing I loved about dying light 1 was the horrifying screams of virals whenever you made noise
I got the trophy for surviving a max level chase at night in Dying light 2 at level 2…that’s a joke
I'll never pre order a game again in my life... this was the life lesson that Techland taught me...
