  • Ten years ago, this was one of the most intense moments in the game. Pretty similar to Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan.

    Ah, the good old days of gaming, when every character looked alike, all ammo was universal, and every bad guy dropped it in an ammo can. When you didn't have to hold X, and "Search." When hip firing was just as accurate as using the sights, and no matter how many times you were wounded, simply drinking from a canteen would heal all wounds magically, and without lasting injuries. We miss you, good old days of gaming.

    The sound design in this mission is still so fucking good. It sounds like complete hell with all the bullet ricochets, explosions, planes doing strafing runs, people yelling, the MG42s firing. I don't know how COD WW2's version managed to sound worse than a 20 year old game.

    the similarities between saving private ryan and medal of honor is more than likely because speilberg created the medal of honor series and wrote the first game and produced the rest. they used to be made from dreamworks interactive until it became ea games los angeles which speilberg own dreamworks and they produced the movie.

      Lennart De Vos If you paid attention the beach wasn't easy after Omaha, it had the most casualties, Besides the merville battery was taken out of action by 150 men of the 6th Airborne, and pegasus bridge was relieved by elements of lord Lovat's commando's, canidians task was to move inland towards Caen, which they did and paid the price with the britsh, polish, belgian, dutch and french units whilest keeping SS panzer division busy so the americans could break out and outflank them.

    My Great Uncle was a captain in the war and was a beach master on Omaha. He was in the first wave in the attack. He directed the landing on that beach and helped soldiers out of the boats. He was one of the first American soldiers to land in France that day. He also helped land General Patton in the invasion of Sicily at Salerno. He also served in North Africa. On Omaha, he was standing under heavy German fire. Somehow he made it out alive that day. I went to Normandy and saw these beaches. It is crazy to think about what happened there. It makes it feel wrong to complain about being cold after seeing that. In the American cemetery there was a a quote from a soldier saying “ I said to the man next to me ‘if there is a hell this has got to be it.’ Then a minute later he took a bullet to the head.” Rest in Peace Captain F Perry Williams. I wish I met you. God bless America.

    • @Thedutchjelle
      @Thedutchjelle 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      *****
      What Chris asked is if they borrowed from the movie, which they obviously did. This is pretty much a 1:1 copy from the movie (or as close as they could get back then) - including the standing near the bunker with a sniper, the blowing up of the fences..
      No one here denies that the D-day invasion happened, but the manner in which it is told can vary greatly depending on the storyteller.
      For example, compare Enemy At The Gates (USA movie) and "Stalingrad" (german movie) and you get two completely different views of the siege of Stalingrad despite them "telling" the same battles.

    • @Thedutchjelle
      @Thedutchjelle 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree.
      Did they really have that many soldiers? Did they really take cover like that? Did they really shoot down the surrendering German soldiers? etc etc etc. There are details that are told differently in each story depending on who tells the story.
      Look at the mood Spielberg made with his movie, the manner in which he shot it. It is that manner that is copied in the game.
      Spielbergs movie could be considered close to the actual event - which is something only the veterans can trully know - but it's still just a presentation of it. Even Spielberg admitted he had some artistic license to make some scenes more dramatic.
      There's nothing wrong with the manner in which both Spielberg or MoH made this way, I'm not hating on them or anything. But it's clear MoH was heavily influenced by Spielberg's movie.

    "Saving Private Ryan" was released in July 1998. I watched the movie and this game is what turned me into a PC game player and gave me a REAL appreciation for what the allied soldiers really had to go through knowing that in REAL life, if the beaches of Omaha, Sword, Juno, Gold & Utah were not taken on June 6, 1944, TRUST me when i say that the USA we know today would have been taken as a NAZI territory. I wasn't even born but just thinking about how close Hitler came to making that happen gives me chills every time. "Operation Overlord" beach storming also drew directly from the movie at times. It for me will always be the G.O.A.T for WWII FPS shooters. God Bless America...

    Despite the grfx, I thought this was/is the most atmospheric eerie game of all.. Nazi-bunkers & -structures rule(d).. & up 'til this day still the best MP experience.. Plus custom maps, open console, private servers, remote screenshots.. *sigh*... The final days before Big Game..

    They've never been able to recapture this matter-of-fact feel. Even the latest WW2 games feel scripted and melodramatic.
    This felt very disturbingly real

    geniuely changed gaming forever. not exactly in the best way either (fps's moving more towards scripted movie like experiences rather than what gaming should be, open minded creative and imaginative - aka not movies) funnily enough this level was still more open than the whole cod ghosts campaign.
    deserves it praise. remember playing this, being absolutely blown away. the game was okay, but this one mission was better than anything that any ordinary AAA shooter, up to this day, managed to do.

    EA may have abandoned this franchise but I honestly do believe it will return as a ww2 game. BUT and its a big but there are some names that are missing here, they were missing in the last two moh games.SPIELBERG,DREAMWORKS,SAVING PRIVATE RYAN,BAND OF BROTHERS.these are the names that made medal of honor ww2 so successful.unless EA bring back those names then all we will get is a battlefield clone, like the last 2 games. Its going to take a lot because its no longer current and has been done to death, however with the new graphics engine and technology we have now compared to when we got frontline, allied assault, even airborne,we would get a very nice looking ww2 fps indeed. The ww2 genre has been still here in the background with the lights of,sniper elite,wolfenstien,and even the low budget enemy front from city interactive. What it needs is the big guns the names we all know and loved. MEDAL OF HONOR the very name is of pride,bravery,sucrifice,we must not forget our fallen brothers who still lie on the battlefield somwere.the magic of Spielberg and DreamWorks cannot be rivaled by anyone not even dice, they are legends of true creation and gave the franchise emotion.until EA realize what they have done wrong the tables will surly turn and they will listen to the fans once again.

    I remember playing this game on the GameCube when I was near 6-7 years old, totally oblivious this was actual history that was made, the accuracy of atrocities war makes on both side of either spectrums. I played this game and got into the Berlin missions loving the guns and the voice acting at such a young age.. weird how even though this game was very historical and I had no clue really makes me wonder how children perceive the world during these awful times. Hope the world finds better days.

    Allied Assault's Omaha Beach scene was what I played first in middle school before seeing Saving Private Ryan in high school. I remember it being way more realistic on a CRT monitor with great loud speakers in my dad's computer den.
    Simpler times back then when this game came out.

    Watch Saving Private Ryan before playing this game (also note that you will probably be sickened). This scene is an almost exact replica of the opening movie, minus the blood and guts (there actually is no blood in this game at all)

    Its now that I've realised game developers just DON'T listen to our cries... If they did, there would be more ww2 and ww1 games... C'mon, yeah they got old but now futuristic shit is old, going back to ww2 or ww1 would be great for us and for them ($$$). And I wish that the games would be a little harder to add to the realism... 1 bullet in torso or head? Dead. 2 bullets in limbs? Dead. That would be as realistic as it could get without being impossible.

    • @dr.desnoyer1408
      @dr.desnoyer1408 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean Stanton I don't mean to be insulting or anything, I'm just curious, but how old are you? There was a time when people were sick of World War 2 games because there were so many. The lack of many WW2 games in recent years stems from people not wanting them. And realistic bullet damage isn't "one bullet to torso, dead." If you would like to see higher damage and semi-realistic gameplay, I'd recommend Red Orchestra 2.

    • @ShintyShinto
      @ShintyShinto 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dr. Desnoyer I stated how ww2 games got old mate... I thank you for trying but I really don't need to be reminded of what I literally just said in a far more simple; "yeah, they got old."

    • @ShintyShinto
      @ShintyShinto 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      But futuristic/modern shit from developers who used to make great ww2 games and have a lot of knowledge of the eera... They just can't get it right, for they are perfectionists of ww2, not the damn future :)

    • @ShintyShinto
      @ShintyShinto 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      BurningBroadcast Very true, I'd love to see a game entirely based off of the battle of Peliliu and the long struggle the soldiers had there.

    • @dr.desnoyer1408
      @dr.desnoyer1408 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean Stanton I don't doubt that it's very possible to create many more great WW2 games, but I do doubt modern developers. The African front is extremely under-explored (Sniper Elite III was great), for example. And I don't think I've seen any games even touch on the Russian invasion of Japanese occupied Manchuria. Maybe it is time for developers to take a crack at WW2 again, but I'm not sure if they can properly handle it.
