I found I could enable the 120hz mode in the headset and the 120hz option in the display settings was actually the one grayed out for me (but still set to auto.) My TV is 60hz.
the only reason you'd want to enable that setting is if your flat tv doesn't support 120 hz or you're not using an external TV at all. if that's the case, then yeah, make sure it's set as described in the video. BUT! if you DO haave a 120Hz tv you won't see the feature automatically enable bc the setting is to enable 120 Hz output on the headset when your tv doesn't support 120 hz. @@Octorious do you run 120 normally on PS5? I wonder if the grey out means systems default as opposed to Off and by disabling it on PS5, you then get the option to run 120, would be a thing for 60hz users.
The PSVR2 runs at 90hz default, not 60hz. So 120hz will still feel the best, but 90hz won't be too bad if you forget to enable 120hz Edit: I think Cinema mode might run at 60hz default, I'm just talking about the PSVR2 running at 90hz for VR games
Setting three must be a bug. Having to disable the 120hz output doesn't make any sense unless it has something to do with trying to output TWO 120hz signals at the same time.
There is certainly something odd with it. Your theory about the two simultaneous signals might definitely be right. If you set it to 120HZ, the TV then receives no input of you playing non-VR games, but that said, even at 60HZ the TV gets no input when cinema mode is in use, so I really don't get it. For my first day or two with the VR, I assumed it being set to auto in the main settings greyed that one in the VR out at 'off' because it would automatically turn it on when 120HZ content was detected in cinema mode. HOWEVER, I started to think it just wasn't as fluid as it should be for 120HZ, despite it allowing me to use 120HZ modes in games, it just still felt like 60. I did some experimenting and then realised if you do what I do in the video, it causes a screen flicker like a normal change of display refresh rate would, and then it felt noticeably smoother and was obviously outputting at up to 120HZ now. I didn't want to include it in the video without properly testing it so I tried it on a 60HZ and 120HZ screen, and both had the same weird default setup. Definitely confusing for people who don't see this video and I hope it gets sorted! Thanks for watching :)
@@Octorious idk...the whole thing seems like a problem with the tv, like not having a 120hz tv, where the PS5 can't run the PSVR2 at 120hz while the tv is at 60hz. Might be that the PS5 when on automatic mode, checks for resolution via HDMI only, so it autoputs the resolution for both tv and PSVR2 based on the tv. Sadly my PSVR2 comes Friday 24th for some reason (Amazon has been shit and always late for months now), so I will check myself on my 120hz tv then cuz I'm sure as hell playing dead space remake in my bed on the psvr2.
@Amuseddaysleeper The 120HZ VR option will only affect your TV during cinematic mode use and will stop the output, but this happens even with it off anyway.
Thanks for these tips, PSVR2 is my first VR kit so this was very helpful, I just need to get over the motion sickness so I can enjoy the games for more than 10-20 minutes 😅
I’m typically someone who is highly sensitive to motion sickness. I can’t really get into first person shooters because of it. But I have had some success in VR by exploring the different movement settings the games offer. Some of the movement options favor those of us that are sensitive. And a general rule of thumb is it is better to play in a space where you can physically rotate your body a full 360 degrees. Rather than use the controller to rotate your body. But with the PSVR2 you will also need to be mindful of that cord. I ordered a VR wire pully system for the ceiling for this very reason. I can move around without getting tangled up in the wire or it constantly being tugged on.
I’m having trouble with clarity. Set my ipd etc but my image is still blurry as hell. Sweet spot seems to be tiny and even when I find it it’s still a lot more blurry than I’d imagined it would be🤷🏻♂️
The sweet spot is definitely quite narrow. It took me a couple days to actually find it and figure out a way to keep the headset there but once you do find it, you'll know as everything will be pin sharp and perfect. I don't think you've found it yet if it's still more blurry than you imagined. However, it could also be your eyes. If you have glasses/contacts and your prescription is off by even the tiniest amount to your real eyesight (let's say you are short sighted), that could cause blurring. If you don't need glasses, it's possible you do have a very very very minor level of short sightedness that has just never needed glasses for real life, but vr does amplify it. Could also be the lenses are already dirty so try giving them a wipe with a clean and fresh microfibre cloth. :)
If you read the description, it enables 120hz on the headset *_IF_* your display doesn't support it. If your display _does_ support it, there is no need for the setting, hence why it's greyed out.
But the thing is, it actually still doesn't seem to. I tested it on an LG CX as well at 120HZ, and when changing to 120HZ in game, it still didn't actually change the output. I assumed for my first few days it was 120 but started to think it wasn't as smooth as it should be, tested it with 60hz and 120hz screens and had the same feeling. Then figured out the workaround for both, turned it on, and there was now the noticeable flicker when enabling 120 in games, and it felt a heck of a lot smoother. I think it might be a tad bugged out, but it was an issue on all screens in my testing. I think the description is more just emphasising that you display doesn't have to be 120 for it to work.
This is a good point and something I should have mentioned in the video. To be completely honest though, OLEDs are so good with their measures to counter burn-in these days, especially LG's, that unless you ONLY play VR games all day for several days in a row with no other content, you should be fine. I don't see many people who are gonna be playing 12 hours at a time every single day with no other content on their TV, but you definitely raise a good point and it is something I should have definitely realised and mentioned for sure!
Could just turn the TV off with that setting enabled, right? The headset doesn't need the TV on in order to work. Could also very easily have something else playing on the TV. Or is that border what makes the enhanced tracking happen somehow?
@@TrexxArmz The point of the border is for the headset to see it.. Think of it like greenscreen markers. Usually a VFX artist can try finding something in the scene to track, but it makes it incredibly more easy if there's already an X there since software is built to look out for it.
Thank you! Spent a good 3 or 4 hours experimenting with different setups and configs trying to figure out if it was just a me problem or not 😅😂 Very glad it has been so useful to so many of you! Enjoy your PSVR2 when it comes :)
@@Octorious Does cinema mode display up to 4k? Digital Foundry said it does, but VR Oasis says 1080p. I'd put my money on Digital Foundry, but I'm still not sure.
@@fffrrraannkk TECHNICALLY it's a 1080p screen. However, it looks like much more and supports 4K content and higher. 4k and up looks much better than 1080p content on it too. I don't think you can really give it a resolution though. The reason it can't technically be 4k, is because with both lenses being 4k, for the screen to be "4k" it would have to be way too large in the headset to be functional I believe. Don't worry about the resolution of it cos it looks great. Fire up youtube and watch 4k, 8k, and 12k videos and you'll see it looks a lot nicer than 1080p does.
120HZ greyed out only means you're set up on system default because you're already connected to a 120Hz TV or monitor. The option is only there for people who connect their PSVR2 to a PS5 that is hooked to a 60HZ TV. No need to de-activate it from AUTO if you're on a 120Hz TV.
I thought this to be the case too, but it isn't. I tested it on an LG CX 120HZ panel as well before putting it in this video to check, and had the same problem. Some people don't get the problem and from asking, it's a mix of 60hz and 120hz users on a range of different displays. I have absolutely no idea what initially triggers it to be allowed or not, but it isn't as simple as 60hz or 120hz.
@@geodek69 I also thought this and opening a game in 120hz flat screen didn't sort it either. It seems to change for each user depending on the exact configuration of the setup, but the steps shown in the video will work to unlock it for everybody 😊
I think if you have a 120 hz display PSVR2 displays the main menu at 120 fps already so it doesn't have to go to black when starting a compatible game. Me having a 60 hz display the settings are not greyed out. They are most probably greyed out at 120 hz displays because it defaults to 120 hz anyway when connected to a 120 hz display 💟 p. s. It also doesn't have to go to black for 60 fps games, they can be displayed inside a 120 hz container
Thank you very much for this video 🙏 I think a lot of people don't know about these tips. I am waiting for my psvr2 now. Maybe tomorrow or Saturday 😊 sorry for my English I'm French.
I’m not that tech Savvy, does 120hz work on any TV? I’m keeping mine default in case my TV doesn’t work with it or something, it’s a somewhat old TV, not a smart TV or anything.
So happy to hear this; thank you! You are very welcome :) Appreciate the sub too! :D I focus fully on PS5 and PSVR2 with the odd sprinkle of PS4 stuff still remaining, so I'm sure there's a lot of value for you here :)
You'll notice my screen size option is also greyed out there. You can only move the slide when you are actually in the VR headset and if I put the VR on, it wouldn't let me record the screen. Infact, for the sidetone setting, you have the same issue, though i stitched all that piece together using screenshots
Yup! That's what the cinematic mode is for and I speak about it during the 3rd setting, as even without a 120HZ screen, you can play non-vr games at 120HZ if you enable that setting :)

You can actually turn the setting back on after changing it on the VR. NOt sure why it locked out to begin with. Tested it on COD and it works on both cinematic and native tv.
It was already enabled , it's for people who don't have 120hz TVs , all you have done is made your native ps5 output worse If your TV supports 120hz and has a cable that supports it , then by default it's enabled and doesn't need to be adjusted......wish people would actually look into what settings do before listening to TH-camrs who don't have a clue
@@TristanTheVRGamecat Funny you complain that you "wish people would look into what settings do before listening to TH-camrs who don't have a clue" when you are the one who clearly doesn't have a clue. The 120hz mode referred to here has nothing to do with the TV at all. It is strictly regarding the PSVR2. Sony PS5 PSVR2 Setting: "Output 120 Hz Video to VR Headset Output 120 Hz video to your VR headset even if the HDMI device that your PS5 is connected to doesn't support 120 Hz output." How exactly does this make the "native PS5 output worse" according to you? What "PS5 output" are you even talking about? The frame rate? The resolution? The general display itself? Because all you do is switch the PS5 120 Hz setting from "Automatic" to "Off" so that you can get the 120 frames option for the VR display to show up. Then you can go back to the 120 Hz setting for the TV & turn it back to "Automatic." Anyone wearing a VR headset wouldn't be using their TV to game on anyway, so there would be zero difference. And if they do switch back to gaming on their TV, it would be on them if they didn't turn 120 Hz to their TV back to "Automatic"

This varies on how you boot the headset initially. If you cut on the headset at the first PSN login screen before sign in, it won't display on screen. Very useful if someone wants to use the TV while you do your own thing in VR. If you turn on the PSVR2 after you sign in to PSN, the display will show on screen for everyone to see.
Great video, thank you! I'll be sure to keep them in mind. Question... can I play PSVR2 without my TV turned on? I want to save power and keep the TV off if possible
No worries! I think by adding the border to the screen, the cameras on the headset sort of use it as a reference point to ensure that the headset only moves if you do definitely move, so it is a backup to the other methods. This is just a guess though. It seems the best at stopping random head drifting rather than controller issues, so this makes sense to me, but I might be wrong. I just know that I enabled it and felt an improvement.
Anyone know how to use your TV/Soundbar/AVR to play flat games or Media apps in the headset without headphones? I've heard you can plug in a bluetooth audio adapter to do it but i don't have one so would like to confirm this
No it won't. If your TV is off, then it wont help. If you're playing stood up and even turning around in a full circle, it'll still help though as it's a static point it can easily see to make sure the environment doesn't start to drift or anything. It works best for games where you are still and facing the TV though like GT7

Sadly my PSVR2 comes Friday 24th for some reason (Amazon has been shit and always late for months now), so I will check myself on my 120hz tv then cuz I'm sure as hell playing dead space remake in my bed on the psvr2.
@@Amuseddaysleeper yes, it turns 120hz mode off. That option is specifically for the tv.
@Amuseddaysleeper The 120HZ VR option will only affect your TV during cinematic mode use and will stop the output, but this happens even with it off anyway.
Nice tips. Thank you! Tomorrow seems an eternity away :(
Thanks! Glad they are useful to you :) You'll enjoy tomorrow so much; it has absolutely been worth the wait!
The wait is over!
Me waiting a few more hours :(
And now, it's yesterday :)
Try pointing a fan at you and don’t try to power through it just stop and give it some time. Eventually you will be able to go longer and longer.
I thought I was the only one having motion sickness problems!!
Man playing kayak vr is rough 😅
Felt sick in resident evil village within the first 10 seconds 😢
It's worth noting that tip 1 about adding the frame could be harmful for those of us using OLEDs, especially since it seems to be completely static.
Exactly what I was going to mention. Good point.
@@Soulindex oh interesting. I definitely won't use it then, as I have an OLED. Thanks for the clarification.
Good job figuring out setting 3. That is very helpful to know when I get the headset in the near future.
They are most probably greyed out at 120 hz displays because it defaults to 120 hz anyway when connected to a 120 hz display 💟
p. s. It also doesn't have to go to black for 60 fps games, they can be displayed inside a 120 hz container
@@Octorious I have the same TV and just got my psvr2 today and can confirm I had the same problem

I’m not that tech Savvy, does 120hz work on any TV? I’m keeping mine default in case my TV doesn’t work with it or something, it’s a somewhat old TV, not a smart TV or anything.
The audio one helps if you use isolating headphones so u can hear ur voice when using the mic

Very helpful. I’ve shared this with friends. Many thanks.
setting 2 at 0:48 setting is unselectable.... then you casually cut scene and it is now selectable. could you explain how you made it selectable?
Sorry for not clarifying. You need to have the headset on your head and powered on for the option to be available.

mmmm Bonus Option how do you change the cinematic mode , i can’t, it’s grey.. you talk about changing, but how do you do that 😢😅
You'll notice my screen size option is also greyed out there. You can only move the slide when you are actually in the VR headset and if I put the VR on, it wouldn't let me record the screen. Infact, for the sidetone setting, you have the same issue, though i stitched all that piece together using screenshots
@@Octorious thanks 🙏🏻
Man... if you guys have one of those magnetic chargers, i recommend using them to charge the controllers without extra wear on the port...
Hi.. I wanna ask, the PSVR2 google can use play non VR game? ( for external monitor) ?
Yup! That's what the cinematic mode is for and I speak about it during the 3rd setting, as even without a 120HZ screen, you can play non-vr games at 120HZ if you enable that setting :)
Thank you so much! This really helps a lot. Great video.

You can actually turn the setting back on after changing it on the VR. NOt sure why it locked out to begin with. Tested it on COD and it works on both cinematic and native tv.
Great info on the 120hz mode! I was also so confused by that, thanks for showing me how to enable it.
It was already enabled , it's for people who don't have 120hz TVs , all you have done is made your native ps5 output worse
If your TV supports 120hz and has a cable that supports it , then by default it's enabled and doesn't need to be adjusted......wish people would actually look into what settings do before listening to TH-camrs who don't have a clue
Sony PS5 PSVR2 Setting:
"Output 120 Hz Video to VR Headset
Output 120 Hz video to your VR headset even if the HDMI device that your PS5 is connected to doesn't support 120 Hz output."
How exactly does this make the "native PS5 output worse" according to you?
Why is my side tone audio grey out and I can’t change it?
Same. Are you using headphones or pulse 3d? I can't with pulse
@@munkyman33 I’m using the buds it came with. I didn’t try my Astros yet and I don’t have a Pulse. The earbuds it comes with are super good which is shocking!!!

"It´s for cinematic mode only" did not help me to understand it.
What you guys think about OLED TV and Tracking support function? Theoretically it`s displaying static image all the time. Do you think it could burn some pixels ?
I had a similar comment earlier, so instead of me retyping the same response, here's what I gave them:
"This is a good point and something I should have mentioned in the video. Great video. Can you use PSVR2 without headphones at all? I know there is no builtin audio but can I use my TV audio? I don't like wearing headphones the whole time.
Yes. You are able to use your TV audio/other connected speaker systems for VR games. If you are in cinema mode, you will need to connect some sort of headphones or earphones to be able to get any audio though.

Just got mine and I could unlock the 120 right away. Maybe it was a pre-production bug.
Hmm interesting! There've been no new VR2 software updates since launch, or main console software updates so if it was a bug, it can't have been patched without any sort of physical update could it? What display do you have your PS5 plugged into out of interest? I mean, I'm glad it works fine for you, but I wanna figure out why it is locked for so many people regardless of if they are on a 60 or 120hz screen aha
Is there a way to increase the saturation?

Hello Octorious , ? Can you tell me why when I'm sitting in my brothers room and he is on his ps5 with the VR2 headset on, he can see what's happening in the headset but i can't see anything on his TV it's completely blank no picture showing of what he is doing .
Thanks so much! You can play PSVR2 with the TV turned off. Infact, in cinematic mode specifically, no output is even sent to the TV.
@@Octorious Sweet. Thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate it! So, how does the whole "border" feature work to actually help tracking?

Is there a trick to using the 3d pulse headphones with the vr2 mine wont seem to connect
does tracking mode even do anything if you dont play towards your screen and/or it is off?
No it won't. If your TV is off, then it wont help. If you're playing stood up and even turning around in a full circle, it'll still help though as it's a static point it can easily see to make sure the environment doesn't start to drift or anything.
