You should always destroy hard drives or other electronic devices before throwing it away because there is no way to ensure that equipment sent for recycling or thrown away will not be accessed by information thieves. My 3 year old daughter walked over my laptop which led to hard drive damage. Can I retrive my data from the hard drive? Which agency will be helpful in doing this. Kindly suggest.
Clicking sounds. My hard drive just went down it tries to spin up then makes an odd noise and stops trying to run. I lost everything I deem as important and for some reason, my backups are missing the important directories. I will not let this happen again. I was thinking of trying to remove the platter and drop it in another drive, but, if this sound means the heads are just stuck as you demonstrated, I might be able to get it running long enough to grab the data. Something I find interesting just happened. I have hot disk turned on in bios so I can add and remove drives while my PC is running. So I opened Fdisk plugged in the drive and it saw it and it said it's not initialized. This tells me the circuit board is working and that the motor is not spinning up the platter. I think there could be 2 reasons the motor is dead or the heads are stuck, right? If the motor was dead, it wouldn't try and spin at all, but it does and it makes a beeping noise. I think I might stand a chance at recovering the data in the way you just demonstrated. what do you think?
Your heads may have clamped down on your platters if you notice these warning signs: Weak, regular beeping noises. Beeping is one of the most common signs of damaged read/write heads preventing a hard drive from spinning up.
@@carsandcamera It just all of a sudden made that beeping sound when I restarted the computer as soon as I heard it I shut down and removed it. What you would do is a platter swap.
