    Text tutorial: www.cleverfiles.com/howto/rec...
The first thing you probably going to have to do is remove the hard drive from your computer and then you'll need to buy an external case. You can then insert the hard drive into that, plug it in via USB into a booting computer and if this drive is still readable you can probably view your files from the booting computer. There are instances however when that doesn't work what do you do when you attach this to a bootable computer and it can't read the files.
Fortunately there are applications out there that allow you to recover files from a non booting drive one of those applications is called Disk Drill, it's available for Mac and Windows OS.
I'm going to show you how to use Disk Drill to recover files from a non booting hard drive on Windows 10.
Step 1. Insert your hard drive into the hard drive case and then attache the hard drive case via USB to a laptop running Windows 10.
Step 2. Launch Disk Drill software.
Step 3. Hit search for lost data. Select what recovery method you want to use (by default all the recovery methods will be selected), but you can go for a Quick scan a Deep scan or allocate existing data. Deep Scan is going to take quite some time especially for a large hard drive.
Step 4. Click review found items. And if this is the first time you run Disk Drill you're going to get some hints here you can read it and then click got it. It's going to tell you there's a chance to find more data. So you can click the scan the entire disk. You can filter the results (all files, pictures, video, audio, documents, archives, other).
Step 5. Once you find files you want to recover your going to select them select all of the files you want to recover. Click the recover button.

Oh Man, you are saviour. I had this Alienware m14x laptop and recently tried to boot, but failed, took it to computer repair professionals and they told me that SATA SSD is damaged and they insisted on replacing it with new one, but the main concern was if the data on it can somehow be recovered. I had a lot of collection from movies, games, photos and that is all Gold for me. I was losing hope until i saw your video which is very much informative and with complete demonstration. I was able to recover much of my old data using this technique. I don't know how to thank you for this :)

If your drive is not detected by the OS (it doesn't show up in Device Manager/Disk Utility) Disk Drill won't help, as most likely that's a hardware problem. We recommend you take this drive to a local Data Recovery Center.

So I have a laptop that now displays the “boot device not found” error and makes a clicking/ticking sound. I tried the legacy booting trick, but that did nothing.
Not 100% sure if the drive is bad, but do you think my files may be recoverable? Trying to decide if I should get a brand new laptop or just a new drive. Current laptop is 8 years old, but it’d cost less if I could fix it.
No matter what, just hope I could get my files back. 🙏🏼

    • @cleverfiles

If the drive is making noises, most likely it is a hardware problem and such software as Disk Drill won't solve. The best option would be taking it to a local Data Recovery Center.

Hi, I have 2 hard drives I removed from a bad computer that was used as a server with a Windows Server OS installed. I bought an USB external adapter and plugged in the hard drive and usb into my Windows 10 computer. It was not finding the hard drive at all. The only thing was when I clicked the usb icon next to the computer clock I could see a drive but had zero content. Properties showed nothing. Normally when I plugged in a new external drive my computer would show a new drive letter it was very simple. I thought this hard drive was bad but it was doing the same on both hard drive! Will the program smart enough to detect them? Thanks

Hello, the BIOS is not in the Hard Drive, the BIOS is the software on the Motherboard of the computer, so you do not need the Drive, you need to have a working functional motherboard attached to a Monitor with power, to check the BIOS.

I'm curious if you know this will help my situation. My HDD head went bad and basically destroyed the needle tip. I got the exact same HDD and swapped the platter over. I still get bad boot sector. I'm thinking I can hook this up as a storage device as you mentioned, but my problem is this: I have a Metamask Wallet extension in my Chrome(I believe) browser. All but one acct I had duplicated or had any info to import onto my other PC or mobile. Will I be able to open chrome file and find it, or will I actually be able to open the browser using the "bad" HDD and use as normal and see what I need to? Does that make sense?
Hoping for some good news. Thanks for the great video!

Hi, I have a laptop that just stopped working while I was on it, whenever I start it, it says it can't start properly and I can either restart or shutdown, after doing that multiple times, it says the samething. Hit F12 and did a diagnostic check on it where it showed an X on the hard drive, took it in to a shop and they said the hard drive is corrupted and can not be recovered. I'm trying to stay positive, praying there is still a way to get the hard drive to work enough to get everything off of it. Are they wrong or am I just fooling myself?

Every recovery case is unique and depends on thousands of parameters. The only way to verify that your files are recoverable is downloading Disk Drill Basic, running the scan with All recovery methods on the whole drive (not just volume or partition) without interruptions, locating the files in question, and previewing them to verify the content. Disk Drill PRO will recover the files that can be correctly previewed in Disk Drill Basic.

I try to follow the steps given from one of your videos to mount the disk from the image and I get " The Disk Image couldn't be opened"- Failed to mount filesystems. Stop using the drive immediately to avoid overwriting the data. Install Disk Drill and use it to scan the formatted drive and preview recoverable files. Select and save the recovered files to a different storage device. In the future, regularly back up important data and verify drives before formatting to prevent data loss.

    NEW DISCOVERED TIP FOR ME:
*DON’T BACK UP YOUR DRIVE FIRST*
    1. My drive is really slow with Disk Drill.
    2. I first did the pull up lost Data on only Deep search - not All Methods Search.
    3. When the drive got to the icon page (pictures, audio, video etc) it gradually went to a severe slow crawl speed.
    4. I then clicked into each Icon and clicked on nearly every item to try to view not save.
    5. The drive Search speed sped up 100X or more.
    6. An hour later, I checked back and it was again at a crawl.
    7. I repeated #4 several times.
    8. When the Search was done, I individually downloaded and saved each item separately. It takes a long time, but it works.
    9. I then backed up the entire drive Byte by Byte.
*The idea was to “get the Data while you can” on a slow drive. The Byte By Byte backup may not work. So get the Data on the initial search as a rescue attempt. You can then try to back up the drive later, which I did on one drive, but the other one wouldn’t - so glad I got the data while I could. Hope this helps.

When hard drives are not being seen it is almost always a hardware issue. When it is not you can usually just initiate the disk or assign the drive a disk letter to get access to the files again. If the PC just won't boot, you can just boot from a live CD to get access to the files. So this software seems pretty useless or at least incredibly niche.

i just toook my computer to a sthop that is veyr highly rated and one thing they do is data recovery. my computer is dell inspiroin from about 9 or 10 years ago and it crashed on tuesday night.
actaullly on july 3rd. when booting up it said scanning and fixing C drive. and recommende di don't veer off it i. it happened again.
then tueday night july 11h before going to be dmy caclulater app was opening and immidately closing. i tried to reset it but it didn't work. not sure if i may have in advertanttly reset something else or not
    but in th emorning
my comute rwould boot up and show the windows logo then the dell logo. and then a blue circle that jus twent on and on and on and on.
    it did that many times.
i then did start in safe mode and hit F12 i think? and ran a diagnostic it had a 2000-01 42 code
i then did F2 and messed around with bios in the boot and power areas. and can't remember what i did. then when i booted it said not bootable and listed 4 sata drivers.
i then went back in thought i went to default mofe but that is all it did every since.
so this company is very good at what they do and is under 300 dollars at worst if they can recover things. if they can't at all, then they would recommend a company that takes the hard drive apar tbut needs to be in a room that doesn't oxidize th ehard dive nad is very highly techinal which costs over 1000 dollars.
but i am curious. based on what i have seen so far, would i expect this to be able to be fine through the regular methods? or does it sound like only a very high priced solution would be the answer

Every recovery case is unique and depends on thousands of parameters. The only way to verify that your files are recoverable is downloading Disk Drill Basic, running the scan on the whole drive (not just volume or partition) without interruptions, locating the files in question, and previewing them to verify the content.
