I've been collecting for the 3DS for years now and I'm still shocked at how quickly the prices for games/hardware rose. It makes it really hard for newcomers to get into.
I’m lucky I still have a dinky 2DS. I sold my New 3DS XL to save up for a Switch, and while I love my Switch to death, I regret it, seeing as how absolutely unbearable it is to get one again. At least I can still access the library, but I’d love to have a New 3DS XL again, or honestly any New model.
Imported my New 3DS XL with some games from Japan for just over $100 in November 2021. The seller described it as well used, but the thing was in flawless condition and perfectly clean.
Something almost NO ONE ever mentions about the New models is the vastly improved speakers. They have cleaner audio and are a LOT louder than the speakers on the 3ds and the abysmally quite 3ds XL speakers
@@finalfanvii6822 For the sound quality sure, but you don’t need to be an audiophile to notice the vast difference in volume. Its THAT big of a difference, oddly enough its still never mentioned
FYI for people considering N3DSs from Japan -- a lot of the first editions have SEVERE screen yellowing on the top screen, and the cheap price often reflects that
They also should have gone for more unique internal colours as well. Like take the Zelda special editions. Only one of the original 3DS XL models has gold inside as well as out. The other O3DSXL is black inside. Likewise both of the N3DSXL special editions are black inside, gold exteriors. Which is cool to look at when flipped closed, but I rather like the look of the sole normal 3DS XL, and gold skins just don't do it justice given the spacing required for buttons (and chance to fudge things up).
@@ignasia7230 i guess its personal preference. i rather the inside black since its the easiest for the eye to focus inside the screens than the others colors. most screens , pc screens and laptops also have black bezels.
Faceplates were such a cool idea, reminiscent of what they did with the GBA Micro forever ago. Wish they had versions of the New XL that also offered the ability to work with larger faceplates. Id' have bought that for sure.
@@ChrisTian-sd5yq well you can technically change the outer shell of any console, but with the new 3ds it was an actual feature. Wish it translated to the XL.
@@ArkOnTH-cam is really not that hard to replace the new 3ds xl shell. look it up in youtube u will find it really easy. ofc the smaller bother is way easier. but compered to the orginal 3ds for example. omg
Seeing stuff like this really makes me glad that I bought a whole load of the handhelds and games a few years ago when retailers were clearing out their old stock. I was very lucky when I happened to find out that Argos of all places was selling off their 3DS stock for next to nothing, a lot of the official Nintendo titles were reduced to about £5 to £10 and 3rd party games such Bravely Default 2 had been reduced from £30 to £2.50! Needless to say, I ended up buying a ton of stuff from Argos alone for the 3DS. One of the best finds that I did come across at Argos was the New 3DS XL Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer handhelds, they hadn't been reduced at all but that didn't matter to me and I ended up buying two of them.
It's really crazy to think about the 3DS/2DS lines and how quickly they've disappeared. I bought a 2DS back in early 2017 and I know that Nintendo discontinued it back in like whatever it was now 2021. But you could still find like both new 3DS's and new 2DS's until fairly recently like maybe a year or two ago. I do think the pandemic accelerated what was already happening which was the last of the stock being completely gone. And prices that were already getting high going sky high.
I really prefer the New 3DS more than my New 3DS XL. The screens look a bit more sharper (of course), due to the smaller form factor and screen size. At this point, adding CFW to your 3DS is pretty much well worth, considering that the eShop is eventually going away really soon. Not only that, my New 3DS came with Dual IPS screens when my New 3DS XL came with the top screen being IPS and the bottom being TN.
I have to disagree there, the larger screen was a real delight for me when upgrading from the original 3DS. As a person who's near-sighted making things bigger is always better.
the probability of receiving IPS and/or TN is all over the damn place, especially taking into account for each display. It’s a gamble no matter for which New 3DS (literally nothing to suggest which screens it’d have besides holding it in your hands powered on) so you can’t really judge two variants on that
I still have this model, I much preferred it when StreetPass was still a widely available thing due to it being a better fit in your pockets. Noticeable improvement over the original model.
One thing people need to keep in mind is battery maintence on these systems...many models use different batteries so be sure to charge them once or twice a year even if you are not using them. The Small N3DS in particular has a battery that is really hard to find and OEM replacement for.
@@mogotrevo The Nintendo online store has a couple model of their batteries listed but they may or may not be in stock depending on your region. Certain models like the n3ds batteries are harder to find.
I read about this. OEM batteries for small N3DS are no longer manufactured. I think there's only third party batteries, which is better than nothing I suppose.
@@AlastorShadow0 Depends on the particular system in question. PSP / Vita / WiiU need to be charged more than handhelds in the DS family in my experience.
I like the XL model, Growing up with the gameboy over the years I'm just really tired of small screens. Yes you can see imperfections more, And the resolution might look better on small screens but that just isn't fun for me. I have no interest in going smaller.
Found a Black N3DSXL in the wild at GameStop for $150 about 3 weeks ago. Snagged that bad boy up after 30 seconds of consideration. Super happy because I feel covered that I will always have a system to play on for the upcoming years.
Pretty neat. 3ds is my favorite handheld system. I have quite decent ds, 3ds game collection and honestly, it make me really nervous to carry those games around. They are bot expensive and if something happens, I won't be able to replace them.
Absolutely still worth it if only for the accessible homebrew support. It pretty much becomes the ultimate Nintendo handheld emulation machine. If anything, that just proves how lacking the Switch is on that front…
Thanks to collectors, there are no new 3ds or new 3ds xl on the market. Since they buy ungelatinised machines on their dusty shelves and put them side by side, we have to buy the products that are scarce in the market more expensive. I don't understand why one machine is not enough for them. It is everyone's right to play games, but they are sweeping the market.
imo, scalpers are the main issue, buying and reselling for more inflates the market but the collector's buying aren't helping either. I want another because I unfortunately found out mine is a dual tn display and supposably is the cause of really bad ghosting on 2d retro like games.
@@Lemmegooglethat.. Actually TN screens have less ghosting than IPS screens. All my New 3DS' (and XLs) have dual TN and it's perfect for me. I play a lot of VC games so the TN screens look closer to an AGS-101 screen. I would lose my mind if I had a mixed display 3DS. I've never seen a Dual IPS in person but honestly I've been told by people who own both that they're virtually indistinguishable under normal gameplay (especially more-so if you calibrate with Luma). I do agree with your statement about scalpers. I am a collector so I just buy one of something and then store it safely.
Don’t blame collectors because you didn’t buy one when the systems were plentiful… like a 3ds was never hard to get until nintendo stopped making them.
Got 2 of them and lucked out with decent prices. Modded one of them and left the other untouched. I never had a DS growing up so it’s exciting to play these games for the first time! Such a great console!
I bought a New 2DSXL a few months ago when I got surgery and knew I’d be in bed for weeks. I got it solely to hack it and put the Ocarina of Time randomizer app on it. Since then I’ve probably put in a thousand hours on that randomizer. The XL 2DS is just so great even with the large screen and low resolution. Great device
The New 2DS XL is probably the most refined iteration of the 3DS line. The only reason I don't use it as a primary device is the lack of 3D effect. I'm one of the few people out there that actually enjoy using the 3D setting, especially since it was perfected with the New 3DS XL line. Still love that New 2DS XL form-factor though. 👍
@@mattmas6628 Heck yeah! The effect might not have always been used well, as it also came down to the individual developer, but when it was done right it was awesome. Starfox comes to mind. The 3D effect really added something to the experience!
The New 3DS is my very favorite system! Super portable and the plates are a nice upgrade too. I think the XL is more comfortable, but the standard size is still pretty comfy.
I've been a 3DS collector since around 2019. Back in 2020 I bought a secondhand physical copy of Yokai Watch Blasters White Dog Squad for $25, and a brand new Red Cat Corps for $40. I think they're at $80-100 now.
1:17 No when they did the DSi XL the Pixel Ratio was still the same as the original DS I'm sure so you still got a incredible nice IPS Screen and the image wasn't blurry at all. So what you really got was a nicer and Bigger Screen with a bigger DS.
I've got two New 3DS XLs, one original 3DS, and a 2DS slab... all of which are running custom firmware. If you are thinking about doing this, I highly highly recommend getting a system BEFORE the eShop officially shuts down. When that copy of Pokemon Picross goes away, it's going to be more complicated to run the initial CFW install.
Guess I should... I was about to say, create a .cia of Pokémon Picross while I still can, but then I realized that obviously you can't install a .cia without a hacked 3DS lol
@@Pixiuchu Haha... yeah, exactly! According to the 3ds Hacks guide, there are other ways to do it... but for my money the Pokemon Picross method is the easiest.
The pichaxx method is the easiest, but the wifi exploit isn't much harder to do. I tried both with different systems. Wifi exploit still needs the friend code system to work, though. So if nintendo ever kills the friend network entirely then our only remaining option is NTR with a DS flashcart otherwise idk
I own 4 of the New 3DS(smaller ones) and about 20 faceplates I ordered from Japan when they came out. I love the smaller form factor. I have bought 4 over the last few years and plan on modding them all with the same multiplayer games for sitting around the camp fire with.
Thanks to your video last year, I picked up a ''New 2DS XL'' in mint condition, CIB with 5 first party games also CIB for £150. Been collecting little gems here and there and now have a solid collection, lots of sealed games bought at ultra cheap clearance prices.
In 2014, with a friend we watched the Japanese Nintendo Direct where they announced the New Models, and I immediately fell in love with the black New 3ds model. After some months, Nintendo of America and Europe announce those models, but in America they didn't released the regular model, just XL (and even with a variation, which was Red exclusive for America). In 2015, the Animal Crossing Home Designer bundle was released by surprise, with the regular model but only white. I bought that one, because at least it was the regular model. I loved that one. Then, the Pokemon Red and Blue bundle released with the white regular New 3ds. But finally, on Black Friday 2016, two bundles of Super Mario released, both for $100, and they were the Black and White regular models New 3ds. I remember trying to find one that day, but was my first time experiencing Scalpers. Since then, I was trying to collect those used black models New 3ds, mostly of them had problems, like broken c-stick, awful scratches, etc. I had a lot of those models, buying between Ebay, GameStop and Amazon. Until one day, I get one that was in a really good condition. I keep that one. I sell all the rest, and some I just give to some friends as gifts. After that, I was known between my friends as the "regular-black New 3ds" Dealer. They called me crazy, but now they understand. Those prices were nothing as they are today. I never paid more than $100 per new 3ds. (Only American, not imported) Nowadays, I just keep that first white New 3ds with homebrew, and the black New 3ds with all my games from eShop.
You can dump you own DS games the same way you can do it for the 3DS games, then you can make forward icons of those DS games directly on your home screen using either an homebrew directly on the console or on PC with a dedicated program.
I always felt that the New 3DS design is Nintendo peaking in handheld design. Absolutely amazing the amount of stuff that they could get into such a small device that looks very good.
Hey, we've got 4 brand new exclusive games launching on the 3DS eShop this year, with the first one launching on the 14th in NA (and Europe in a couple weeks).
The regular new 3ds released regularly in the UK so it's actually a descent price right now (got mine a few months ago in boxed for around £90 ($105) and it is amazing loving the system and the great games it has).
I bought my "new" 3ds at media markt here in Stockholm, Sweden 2015 There is two version of a Japanese and one European version no USA versio for some reason. I think Australia got the European version for some reason if I remember right.
The 3DS is an exceptional system. Two years ago I got a mint condition gray New 3DS xl for like 90 usd with box and charger. When it arrived the top screen looked great so I did my research and it resulted it is a top IPS screen 3DS which are kind of rare and cost a lot more on the market. It was definitely a steal!
I love this model and have used it for years. I bought a brand new Pickachu New Nintendo 3DS XL due to the bigger size and comfort. Even with a grip, the New Nintendo 3DS was small for me. I will say, though, that the screen on the smaller one is a lot better due to the size. I love the faceplates for the system. They look excellent.
about 8 months ago i went into a toys r us here in Canada and asked if they had any systems left for sale, the girl went in the back and came back with a New2DS XL mario kart edition for the retail price. even these are a smart purchase when possible.
I bought 4 different 3ds systems during the lifecycle, and my New 3DS Mario edition from Black Friday is definitely my favorite. The screen is larger than the OG 3ds, but smaller than the XL screen that gets to be extremely pixelated due to same resolution on a larger screen. The result is that you get the best of both worlds for screen size/resolution, plus the c stick and improved processor of the New 3ds line.
I'm glad I bought my New 3DS XL Pikachu Edition last year at the beginning of 2020 when prices were still at a low point. I use it even more than my Switch. With the homebrew capabilities and great rom compatibility it's my preferred device for emulation. Twilight Menu++ is great for DS games since it runs all the DS roms natively with full action replay support, multiple save files, and even slight upscaling of sound and graphics thanks to the 3DS's extra power. Also like being able to run 3DS rom hacks and randomizers on native hardware instead of having to deal with Citra which isn't the most reliable in my experience.
One of my fav systems of all time. Got the only box of the Animal Crossing one that launched at my GameStop. Waited on the store to open on launch day and was the first customer in to buy it (and the only one they got). I picked up the yellow Pikachu plates and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon plates! Freakin love it! I rolled all of my Ambassador stuff over to it.
Importing a 3ds is the only way to go with how easy it is to open up the software. The color choices are crazy and most are near mint, haven't regretted it once.
The small New 3DS is super sleek and I love mine. I got it about 6 months ago when things were less crazy with pricing. For anyone wanting one of these make sure to look at the pictures the seller has uploaded. The small version of the 3DS is prone to the screens yellowing. It isn't a huge issue really unless the screen is fully white.
@@angelhair2003 I honestly don't know. I imagine they yellow over time, because I doubt Nintendo QC would allow yellow screens to ship brand new back when they released.
@@angelhair2003 Its honestly not that bad. I hardly notice it in game and for me its only my top screen. Again its only really noticeable when the screen is fully white.
I don't get why nintendo doesn't keep it in production ,I still see kids playing 3ds systems and not everyone wants to carry a switch around I think they were too quick to discontinue it and there is still a market for small handhelds.
3ds homebrew is pretty nice. With the virtual console functionality built in to the system, you can even compile your other game libraries there and have an all-in-one Nintendo handheld.
I was able to buy the Animal Crossing version of this model at launch. I absolutely loved this form factor for the same reasons you gave, mainly the screen resolution. I might get back to this gem of a handheld with these “updates”.
I didn't realize how bad 3DS pricing has gotten, I got a brand new New 3DS XL for 300 dollars right after they announced the discontinuation, and now regular used New 3DS models are nearly 300 in the US, it's insane.
In the past I would've agreed on the smaller screens being a better thing, and even bought a regular size 3DS years ago on that basis... but after spending some time with a New 3DS XL, I was sold and haven't looked back since.
Yeah the white "new" 3DS is the one I bought back at release, I also modded the C-stick with a PSP thumbpad and it works much better for games that use it, definitely recommend doing that
I picked up a Nintendo refurbished Zelda 2DS. Since most reviews say they don't even use the 3D feature. I went the cheaper way and spent 80. The 2DS feels comfortable in the hands.
I still have both New 3DS/XL (mainly for final fantasy theatrhythm) and definitely recommend the XL version. Bigger screen is just better and DS games are also great on larger screen.
the OG 2DS is for sure a great system, but if you play for long hours, have bad eyesight like myself, and you don't care about 3D, or just can't see it right, then I feel the NEW 2DS XL with a generic grip shell is the sweet spot.
That was my first 3ds. It was not good, for me at least. The only good thing for me was no hinges as a structural weakness. But i still prefer the new 3ds xl.
I mean, I do want to get a New 3DS for the 3D and the extra circle pad (It turns out Monster Hunter 3U is *really* awkward to control without one), but I love my doorstop 2DS dearly, and might make it my modder's device.
I love the 3DS! I prefer the XL units, and paid a good amount to get a CIB limited edition lime green NTSC model a couple of months ago. It's my go-to console at the moment. Turns out investing in a bunch of 3DS games over the last year or so has really been starting to pay off!
Would love a 2022 list of your favourite DS & 3DS games. Been playing my 3DS a lot lately and it would be nice to have a couple new, maybe more underrated (to you personally) titles to have a look at. Great video as always.
I happened to find a smaller sized New 3DS in a retro store back in January for only $100. The store owner usually knows what she has but perhaps didn't realize what it was. Edit: It's a North American region system, white with Mario Maker faceplates. It was probably a very limited release.
I bought my original 3ds used 2 years ago, for like 70 euros. It's my favorite handheld because it's so sleek and portable and the library it has is simply amazing.
Quick question: My old 3DS freezes frequently and it does not allow a system transfer to complete to salvage my data. Is this a motherboard issue? Many thanks and keep up the awesome work!
for anyone interested in strictly ds games remember that homebrew isn't required to play your cartridges since that system wasn't region locked. i'd still recommend modding your system to download more pricey titles like the Pokemon and Dragon Quest games though.
I bought a "New"2DS XL from Walmart right when they stopped producing them and they were clearing out stock for $100 each. I modded the system that way I can enjoy game preservation when the eShop closes, and I'm super glad I snagged one of these when I had the chance! I don't ever intend on selling it, but it will be nice to go back and enjoy the 3ds generation that I mostly missed out on. I had a cheese wedge 2ds for a while a few years ago and played a lot of good games before it broke. But there are MANY more that I haven't experienced yet, and I'm stoked for that!
Such a shame the prices are absurd, glad I got mine for a normal price back then but I feel sorry for anyone wanting one now. Also in kind of sad that no one has made custom c stick mods yo make it easier to use. The PSP stick mod sort of works but its not a perfect fit, whoever makes one that fits right will definitely sell a lot of them.
There was something on the base 3ds. I think it was called the pro stick or something. It was similar to how the Guitar Hero attachment worked on DS except the place was on the side not the bottom.
@@Sacren365 yep that was for the original 3ds model, the new model you can use a PSP joystick and it mostly fits on it but as I said, making one of those sticks that does fit properly would be a major improvement over the nub they have now.
@@VEN0M415 Yeah eventually someone will make it happen. I know with some soldering and Luma 3ds it’s possible to make a GameCube Controller adaptor that plugs into the headphone jack. It’s not what your talking about but I figure it might peak your interest. I hope those mods come around someday though.
@@Sacren365 yeah what im talking about only needs a high quality 3d printer to make a small piece of plastic, ben waiting since 2016 and surprisingly no one has to date, shame.
I actually thought they were Japan only for a LONG time, but I’m so glad I snagged one with a box a couple years ago. Don’t play it since it’s obviously for a collection, but I wish it was my daily driver back in the day. What a refined little piece of hardware
The dsxl screen is pretty good imo. Don’t get rid of that especially if you want to play ds games. Ds games on the 3ds/2ds xl don’t look great. I love my 2ds xl
Nice video. I have had a new 3DS for many years now with a big official eShop library. I also have a big (around 90) collection of cartridge games. With the 3DS bank I am able to switch between the official games, themes and badges and the homebrew stuff that has all the physical games bavked up, some fun homebrew themes and bafges and game ports (like the fantastic Mario 64). With the Rverse the Miiverse is back and with Redshift you can modify the saturation of colours of both screens. Really great stuff! :)
This, outside of the New 2DS XL, was the least sold Nintendo item during the Wii U/3DS days, barely crossing 2 million units. There are some Wii U limited editions that are rarer, but as far as models go, this was the rarest of that generation, hence the price going up. It's also why I kept my HHD version sealed in box (that, and I don't like white systems).
Yeah I was very lucky to get my black new 3ds standard size a few months ago, off of an eBay auction for 250 and I also got some custom faceplates for it , ( it's of one of my albums beisolhof vol 3) and I have a 256 gb sd card in it with about 210 gigs of games and been taking hella pictures and videos with the 3ds and it's really really cool to archive everything on my 3ds and it's very important to me I have a wii strap on it and a aux charm plug and UAUAUAUSGDHHDHS ITS SO AWESOME hacked the shit out of it and got pretty much ALL 3ds games very dope, it's the only thing I've been playing lately
This version of the New 3DS was available in 2017 I believe, as a Black Friday special for $100. There was a black version and a white version(the one I got). Reports were saying that the white version had a slightly smaller supply, and was therefore more collectable, but it's not like I'll ever sell mine.
the thing with the screen is just a "i want the bigger one" war because the screen on the new 3ds is yet bigger than the normal 3ds so is already a plus
got one for £100 just recently to swap with my original 2011 one. The new 3ds games aren't really that compelling IMO but I do like my DBZ coverplates. One thing to note is that the KTR batteries are extremely hard to find in comparison to new 3ds batteries (which I believe are shared with switch pro controller).
The 'new 3ds' games are decent but the upgrade you get definitely helps with emulation after you homebrew it, playing half life or PS1 games are much more bearable to play.
@@lolcat The halflife port actually lets you setup the bottom screen as a mousepad and/or keyboard really easily. Makes the FPS experience feel a lot better to me than using a stick
3DS has the best homebrew scene other than the Wii I guess so for that fact alone literally everyone wants one. The new 3DS is fast enough to run PS1 full speed with some custom settings.
One little caveat about the New 3DS: finding replacement batteries is really difficult for this model. You can easily find ones for the XL, for some reason. I could only find a replacement directly through Nintendo and they wouldn't ship it to me so I had to send it to a relative so they could send it to me. Otherwise, it's an amazing model.
I'm so glad I got my OG 2DS, and NEW 2DS XL when they where new, and most of the games I've wanted when prices were not crazy, as I knew prices would go crazy at some point.
I will politely disagree, I actually love the XL version more. I like having a big screens to play portable games and it is so much more easy handle. I still miss my New Nintendo 3ds XL. I will say, the covers for the standard version are lit 🔥
Exactly why Nintendo of America only made the New 3DS available in bundles and special releases like the Black Friday black and white Mario models they released one time. North America is all about XL everything. These comments alone are proof of that. Would have been a stupid business decision to even approach the release of these consoles any other way. That said, I love smaller size everything. Lol so I’m part of the minority (which will always exist anywhere) of people who see the superiority in smaller devices. Conversely, exactly why I wish to one day live in a tiny home I can lug around. Lol screw wasting space.
3:27 I can't believe that system sold for $99 when new. I almost snatched one at Best Buy when it released to upgrade from my (regular) 3DS XL but unfortunately it was pretty much sold out maybe a couple days after it came out.
I never felt so lucky to have an old 3ds XL laying around. Got it as a gift when I was a child, and used it for years before eventually transitioning to playing on pc (and switch, for some time). At the same time though, I wanted to make a full white version of it, but the shells for it are SO EXPENSIVE
I had an idea this would happen eventually, and when Nintendo announced the New 3ds Black Friday bundle several years back at (I think it was) $99 or $110 something like that, exclusive to Walmart... I ended up buying two, and kept one in the box untouched. The other one I rarely played but did end up hacking with Luma and all the other things. I've looked into selling them over the years but sounds like now might be the time.
Great timing on the video. I sold my 3DS and my collection last year and i always regretted it, so last week i found a good deal on a mint in box Metallic Blue "New "3DS XL (we got that color here in europe). Along with a bunch of games that i used to have and some i didnt. No regrets, the "New" 3DS XL is a thing of beauty, and although i miss my old Metroid Samus Edition, this still feels really premium!
I modded my 3DS back in early 2022 when the eshop was announced to be closed next year just so I could get all the hidden gems and not worry later. Considering the prices of the games have sky rocketed lately, it seems like be a better idea just out of necessity now. If you're looking to get a 2ds/3ds definitely don't go on amazon as even a regular 2ds costs well over $200 which was a less than $100 ($80 w/ mario kart 7 at some stores I saw) system near the end of it's life. If you can get one that's already modded, even better. The tutorial to mod one even if it's super thorough will still take a good chunk of time.
That size and form factor to me is the perfect ideal size to me. I always wanted this one. So now that I know I can do this, it’s all I can think about.
If you have an original 3DS, there is an extended battery you can get. It gives you up to 20 hours of battery life and makes the console a bit thicker. It is 3rd party of course. I just wish people started making bigger batteries for the other 3DS consoles. Mugen did that at one point, but they are no longer around.
Picked up multiple DS’s the last few years and they have been worth every penny. So many great games available for them, plus since they’ve been discontinued they’re really hard to find for a not crazy price. Retro gaming rocks!
I picked up one of those black friday super mario New 3Ds's a couple years ago and really love it. The one I got off of ebay had a crunchy game card slot, but with how modular the system is I was easily able to get a replacement and fix it good as new.
I just ordered a Japanese black new 3ds mainly because I prefer the smaller versions of Nintendo handhelds and also adding to the fact that it’s the “New” line of 3DS systems. Every Wii & 3DS I get my hands on is inevitably modded lol
I own 6 new 3ds xls multiple skins. I might start selling them on mercari bc that market definitely took off. I did stock up on games for the past 2 years. Not gonna lie I had payed 200$ for a single game or $600 for the 2ds Zelda edition new in box. So don’t fool yourself. They are skyrocketing. I love the ds it self. Wasn’t a huge fan of the 3ds bc of the size but the when the new 3ds xl was announced I know I was returning to the platform after being playing vita and the ds games. Very happy to see you going back to the retro stuff. Speaking of retro the 3ds soon will count. I feel old.
Your comment about the smaller looking better very much holds true. I played FE: Awakening on my NEW 3DS & then for a change, tried to play it on my 2DS XL (a system I used to play on DAILY) & I really couldn’t do it. I love my smaller DS & the fact it can do 3D compared to the 2DS XL, as well as the customisable plates. For me it’s superior - not to mention the portability
You really can't compare the two. From what I recall the 2ds XL screens where way worse than the "New" 3ds ones (the image is pretty washed out, so much so that blacks end up looking like grey).
Yep. I have THAT one in particular... From PURE luck on Amazon because at a point, I refreshed the page and for even JUST a few minutes I could actually buy the damn thing. XD I believe it was on a Black Friday of THAT year when it was first released. And it's been with me ever since.
One caveat of a modded Japanese 3DS is that some games use the system default language so even a US game like Luigi's Mansion and some menus in Animal Crossing New Leaf still have Japanese language text in the game. I didn't go as far as using the FW mod for the language as it breaks the Japanese eShop
I got mine for 180 fully modded about 10 months ago. Is it worse than that today
Imported my New 3DS XL with some games from Japan for just over $100 in November 2021. The seller described it as well used, but the thing was in flawless condition and perfectly clean.
i got a mario and luigi 3ds with a box for 170$
@@TortillaPizzeria my ds broke a couple years before getting the switch and the switch is so dull compared to the 3ds
Something almost NO ONE ever mentions about the New models is the vastly improved speakers. They have cleaner audio and are a LOT louder than the speakers on the 3ds and the abysmally quite 3ds XL speakers
Because most people aren't audiophiles
Still is nothing compared to a good set of earphones, which, if you need clean sound that much, should be your go to
I even think there better than the switch speakers.
@@finalfanvii6822 For the sound quality sure, but you don’t need to be an audiophile to notice the vast difference in volume. Its THAT big of a difference, oddly enough its still never mentioned
Old audio was crunchy tho I love it
FYI for people considering N3DSs from Japan -- a lot of the first editions have SEVERE screen yellowing on the top screen, and the cheap price often reflects that
stupid bot
I really love the look of the original New 3DS, I wish they would do the Red Green Yellow Blue buttons on more controllers and consoles.
Id' have bought that for sure.
you can change the outer shell, but it's hard
@@ChrisTian-sd5yq well you can technically change the outer shell of any console, but with the new 3ds it was an actual feature. Wish it translated to the XL.

Got all the 3ds stuff I wanted in 2017-2019 for dirt cheap and could not of been happier I did.

One thing people need to keep in mind is battery maintence on these systems...many models use different batteries so be sure to charge them once or twice a year even if you are not using them. The Small N3DS in particular has a battery that is really hard to find and OEM replacement for.
Can you share where I can find genuine batteries?
@@mogotrevo The Nintendo online store has a couple model of their batteries listed but they may or may not be in stock depending on your region. Certain models like the n3ds batteries are harder to find.
I read about this. OEM batteries for small N3DS are no longer manufactured. I think there's only third party batteries, which is better than nothing I suppose.
So you have to charge your portable game systems once, or twice year even if you aren't playing them?
@@AlastorShadow0 Depends on the particular system in question. PSP / Vita / WiiU need to be charged more than handhelds in the DS family in my experience.

There's something about handheld gaming that appeals to me far more than playing on a TV.
Like i could be gaming and watching tv in the same room with my girl without her saying i never hang out with her 🤣
I prefer it because I can be in bed or in the couch or at a friends how, in the car or train. I love being able to take my games anywhere I am.
You can back them up if your 3ds has CFW. It is completely legal in most countries if it is for personal use.
Who the fuck be caring ds games with em. Especially that many were you be worried..

Agreed.
imo, scalpers are the main issue, buying and reselling for more inflates the market but the collector's buying aren't helping either.
Mine is a dual ips xl and it is definitely noticeable and I love the colors on it. That being said, my old regular xl still looks great
Don’t blame collectors because you didn’t buy one when the systems were plentiful… like a 3ds was never hard to get until nintendo stopped making them.
Got 2 of them and lucked out with decent prices. Modded one of them and left the other untouched. I never had a DS growing up so it’s exciting to play these games for the first time! Such a great console!
0:40 The New 3DS small model was also widely available in Europe.

(Only American, not imported)
Nowadays, I just keep that first white New 3ds with homebrew, and the black New 3ds with all my games from eShop.
Is the retailer still selling these online?
Send link? Definitely wanna get my hands on one if UK retailers have boxed ones

I bought my "new" 3ds at media markt here in Stockholm, Sweden 2015
There is two version of a Japanese and one European version no USA versio for some reason.

Wow, that's a HUMONGOUS steal. (also fuck you telegram scammer comment bot)
Wait ... there was a third screen aspect ratio? 😮
Hard to imagine Nintendo went the extra mile ...
@@dashannsche8460 The New 3DS is in between the original 3DS and the XL/LL versions.
@Dr. Doom🦠 The price thing or the screen yellowing? lol
@@angelhair2003 I honestly don't know. I imagine they yellow over time, because I doubt Nintendo QC would allow yellow screens to ship brand new back when they released.

It's funny how I just got my new 3ds xl a few days ago and see my favorite TH-camrs making videos on it randomly.
Have 5 units... Just waiting to sell >:)
In the past I would've agreed on the smaller screens being a better thing, and even bought a regular size 3DS years ago on that basis... but after spending some time with a New 3DS XL, I was sold and haven't looked back since.
Yeah the white "new" 3DS is the one I bought back at release, I also modded the C-stick with a PSP thumbpad and it works much better for games that use it, definitely recommend doing that
What is awesome is that you can still play online with CFW too! Even japan based games! I played monster hunter xx online and beat the game!

the OG 2DS is for sure a great system, but if you play for long hours, have bad eyesight like myself, and you don't care about 3D, or just can't see it right, then I feel the NEW 2DS XL with a generic grip shell is the sweet spot.

I've always prefered the XL systems, they feel way better in my hands. The normal ones sometimes cramp my hands
i think the xl system is for people with bigger hands
Quick question:
My old 3DS freezes frequently and it does not allow a system transfer to complete to salvage my data. Is this a motherboard issue?
Many thanks and keep up the awesome work!
I got a 2DS green and yellow ocarina of time version for 70$ and modded it with every GBA, DS & 3DS games

Also in kind of sad that no one has made custom c stick mods yo make it easier to use. The PSP stick mod sort of works but its not a perfect fit, whoever makes one that fits right will definitely sell a lot of them.

This version of the New 3DS was available in 2017 I believe, as a Black Friday special for $100. There was a black version and a white version(the one I got). Reports were saying that the white version had a slightly smaller supply, and was therefore more collectable, but it's not like I'll ever sell mine.
the thing with the screen is just a "i want the bigger one" war

got one for £100 just recently to swap with my original 2011 one.
@@VEN0M415 The problem is I already use my vita for that, much better in that regard lol
@@lolcat The halflife port actually lets you setup the bottom screen as a mousepad and/or keyboard really easily. Makes the FPS experience feel a lot better to me than using a stick
Wasn’t there a peripheral that attached which gave you a 2nd thumbstick? I think it was to help controls for kid Icarus uprising.
Uff I bought mine New 3ds in white on 2018 new for 250 Euro in a Bundle.... and still love this thing as my daily Friend
Same here Fire emblem on it is great
I'm so glad I got my OG 2DS, and NEW 2DS XL when they where new, and most of the games I've wanted when prices were not crazy, as I knew prices would go crazy at some point.
I will politely disagree, I actually love the XL version more. I like having a big screens to play portable games and it is so much more easy handle. I still miss my New Nintendo 3ds XL. I will say, the covers for the standard version are lit 🔥
Agreed, the New 3DS XL especially was handheld gaming perfect. The big screens, stable 3D, and other little improvements!
The resolution in comparison to the regular New 3DS is night and day.
3:27 I can't believe that system sold for $99 when new. I almost snatched one at Best Buy when it released to upgrade from my (regular) 3DS XL but unfortunately it was pretty much sold out maybe a couple days after it came out.
Haha becauae of this video, used japanese new 3ds system will be sold out and getting more expensive lol
How much would you sell it for
@@solidcestlavie7 what's your offer
Great timing on the video. I sold my 3DS and my collection last year and i always regretted it, so last week i found a good deal on a mint in box Metallic Blue "New "3DS XL (we got that color here in europe). Along with a bunch of games that i used to have and some i didnt. No regrets, the "New" 3DS XL is a thing of beauty, and although i miss my old Metroid Samus Edition, this still feels really premium!
It's a good thing I bought them back in 2020, at msrp nonetheless
I just wish Nintendo still repaired these models. My bottom screen randomly died one day, but the touch screen still works.
Picked up multiple DS’s the last few years and they have been worth every penny. So many great games available for them, plus since they’ve been discontinued they’re really hard to find for a not crazy price. Retro gaming rocks!
This is my favorite model. I love the face plates and the colored buttons.
They hate how the markets gone but still make videos like this. There goes the 3ds market
