I can’t wait to follow your progress when you do get started I did two years of research on swarm catching and bees before I made my first catch and had bees. This time you have invested learning will pay dividends later Thank you for the comment
Couple of questions:- do you leave your swarm boxes up all year? When do you take them down put them back up? Have you any experience with the double roller uncapper units that you push the frames in and out of that slice the cappings open ? I wanted as little honey in the cappings to deal with as possible so i used an uncapping fork to pick off the cappings i only had 6 supers but still got old very quickly! Labrador best dog in the world and every lab wants to be a black lab !
I have no experience with the uncapping roller unit. They seem very convenient but for me I think that purchase would be at a much higher level. This year we will be doing 11 full supers which still for me won’t justify that purchase. We run are supers nine frame spacing in a ten frame box so the comb is wider and easier to hit with a blade. The uncapping tank is a game changer for us and gets the cappings very dry. Limited waste and no concern if you are heavy handed with the blade cutting to deep. It all drips out and is harvested. I have a video on the #hillco uncapping tank and I think that might achieve your goal also with so many more benefits. I take all my traps down. I will finish that process with the remaining 4 in the next couple weeks. Since they are painted plywood and OSB leaving them up is to much weathering and unnecessary abuse during the winter. To long left up and a critter could make it a winter home. I like to take the hanging spike out of trees. I Don’t like leaving them in for years. 4 seasons used for some traps and they already are looking a little weathered not even being up year round I will pass the compliments onto Molly. Labs are great! All dogs are great for me Thank you. Great questions!
I like the lid with the hole in it to fit the strainer. I end up straining mine a second time into the bottling bucket just to get the occasional bee or beetle or wax bit that may have fallen in. Your method could save that step. Another tip I saw was to cut a bucket near the top to put on top of your bucket to raise the strainer up. I am not sure I want to do that because it is difficult to pour from an overly full bucket.
@@rtxhoneybees being able to raise it would be great I sell 5 gallon buckets and with the strainer in I can’t get it full enough Thank you for the comment
eBay Referred to as “bucket rack” and/or “pail perch” We wrap plastic wrap around the opening while bucket drains to protect finish product because we leave it a day to drain I find it to be one of our most useful purchases and not having to wait for the bucket to drain is so nice. No scraping and you get all the honey out Thank you for the question When you asked was concerned because I honestly couldn’t remember😀
Awesome info. Helped brother in law 1 time. This will make my small processing much easier.
