David you’re the best beekeeper on YT in my opinion! Your videos are very helpful and high quality! Going to ask my wife to get me your online classes for my birthday :)
I had wild bees where ever I go. One Hive was 25 yrs old and between two Armoured walls.. It smell Like Honey around that Building. I now have two. One is now 6 yrs Old and they are like my pets. Never harvested. They are very kind to me. I got a New wild swarm about two month ago. Thinking, of something easy, as Elderly Lady. I saved bees once been frozen in 2016 giving a wild strange swarm frozen in water saved them giving them CPR to more than 20 bees using my warm breath about 10 - 15 min each.. In my country.
Beautiful looking honey. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate and explain, along the way, the process and what to look out for in order to have a successful honey extraction experience.
I have learned a whole lot from your videos and appreciate them greatly..I am about to take a chance and give 1 beehive a try next year and gathering all the information possible before attempting to do this..thanks
Hello David. Thank you for all the good information. I’m new to beekeeping and had to harvest two hives last year by myself as my first experience. I have the same extractor you used in this video. To deal with the out of balance frame situation, I first mounted the legs together at the bottom on stout beech lumber plus three threaded rods half way up anchored to a center wooden hexagon. That did help, but not when the frame weights were unequal by a fair percentage and I was down to only a few frames so couldn’t mix and match anymore. That’s when i decided to make weight holders per frame pocket and add weights to the light side until both sides were close to equal. This solved the problem of the crazy vibrations from an unbalanced load that can’t be good on the extractor long term.. Sometimes I had to do the balancing process twice for the same two frames if they didn’t give up their bounty at the same rate (my fault from the occasional uneven and somewhat incomplete cap removal). And yes, I sealed the lead ingots i had made to prevent any chance of contamination. With all the fiddling and studying and cleaning I did I thought i would never get finished, but I was rewarded with my first supply of the golden treasure to give as a unique gift to people. My first beeswax refining experience had even more fool difficulties and delays, but that’s another story.
David that you so much ! I’m going to do this and we have a high school friend who is a master at this and has helped me with questions . I love this already

Hi David, the Finns have come up with a new kind of an improved flow frame they call the Smart Beebox System. The company manufacturing it is Paradise Honey. There are distributors in USA. All it is needed is to push a stick through to open and close the frames, Also, the honey collector system is simpler and more efficient. There is no need to collect the frames, cut them, spin them, and sieve the honey. Have a look at it while you play with your computer in the evening and tell us what you think about it. Also, the hungarians have come up with the hexacells, also distributed in USA. It is ready made pulled out comb. A hive kit with hexacell comb and the smart beebox system will make a beekeeper ready for harvest in the first year. Please give your advice. Thank you.
After the air bubbles rise to the top of the honey, lay a piece of saran wrap on top. The air bubbles will stick to it and when you remove the saran wrap, the bubbles will come up with it. Then the honey on the wrap can be used at home. No waste.
I think he means “you filled that 5 gallon bucked up on 4 frames?” The image of the honey slowly moving through the white strainer and bucket makes it look as if the 5 gallon bucket is full. If only we could get a gallon or more per frame 😅
I'm a VERY new beekeeper. Like I only just got my first hive 1 month ago. My question is, I've works with resin for a long time and a trick for removing air bubble from resin is using a vacuum chamber. Have you ever heard of using a vacuum chamber to remove the air from honey? I LOVE your channel and I've already learned SOOO much from you only having watched a half dozen videos so far. I look forward to watching so much more. Thank you for your time and that of Patrick's as well! Shalom brothers!
i use a layens hive which works alot differently but i still love watching your videos for tips and stuff. i did an in spection today and the girls were feisty. is a hot day though even though we were in the shade at the time. they still have about 7 frames of brood going so im hoping they grow a lil more to fill out the hive. its a 20 frame hive and they were a swarm i caught on may first off some that i lost. theyve about filled the hive already.
2:15. I really like using an escape board. Put it on under the supers you want to harvest midday and by next morning you'll be left with a handful of bees in the super/s. Makes life so much easier than trying to clear off hundreds or thousands of bees.
Hi David, seems to work nicely with the knife. What are the widths of the top and the bottom bars? And how far are the frames apart from each other from middle to middle? Greetings from Germany!
David, what is the square wide mouth glass jar you used for putting the honey? The first one looked alike a quart jar. Please advise where to acquire these!!
Thank you sooo much for this video, very helpful especially since I have not harvested it before. I do not yet have an extractor and my husband and I do love comb, So I was thinking … since we really do not care if it is the most beautiful honey, that I will just scrape off comb and put all of the bits with the honey in the jars 🤷🏽♀️
This works better with wax foundation, but if you have plastic foundation you'll have to scrap it off. It's destructive and makes for a lot of work for the bees to repair it, but sounds like you're not hurting for much honey just some, so that should work fine. Unless you have wax moth or SHB eggs in the comb, then they will hatch in your jar.
@@beek thank you for the advise! I am just using plastic. Would you recommend freezing it after putting it in my jars so we don’t have anything hatching.. just in case?
Cheesecloth you can also use if harvesting very little. I just squeeze the honey from the comb, and then pour it in my jar, through the cheesecloth that takes any other wax out!
Great tips David! As always, thanks for helping those of us who may not be real experienced. I loved the board with the screw in it! If only I had seen this a week ago… Lol!

Strange question for you Dave but that first jar you filled where can I find lids for that jar. I found in my fathers old house many cases of these but no lids
I never have much luck using knives because the comb isn't even enough outside the frame edge., Your comb looks fabulous (or you selected the best ones for the demo).
Yes, that's why I strongly talked about that in the video and we knew the bees were foraging heavily, and that we could work fast before they found us.
What if you need to harvest a few frames, ( maybe you are out of boxes)but have to borrow your club's spinner every time you harvest? How do you store full frames until you have enough to be worth getting the spinner?
Yes, most of the time I do. But when I use Acorn frames, you can select the amount of wax you want added. It's much easy/faster to buy double or triple coated from Acorn.
This is my first year beekeeping. I enjoy your channel as it has helped me quite a bit. I built my own hive( langstroth long style) as it is less lifting for me. I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada and realize not everything you do works here but the info helps greatly.
I'm going to give some away on my livestream this week. Hope you can make it for your chance to win a bottle. Here's the link: th-cam.com/users/live2aTaxvH3sXc
Hi David, perfect timing as I will be extracting tomorrow. Just a hint, you can use clear wrap over the top of your bucket to pick up the foam bubbles and residual wax that accumulates. Just pull it up in one quick movement and no worries about it going into your jar! Have a happy Fourth of July and thank you for your great content !

I made it through winter with 2 colonies & had a swarm that landed in my raspberry patch that left enough in the original box they made another Queen & are all thriving. Hey Dave, can you please tell me what you do with the frames that have had the honey already extracted out? I really don’t want to put them back on, because my hives currently have four supers on them, and I want to start getting them down to just a couple of supers, to start getting them ready for the fall feeding and getting them ready for the winter months. Can you store them safely, in a cool spot, and what do you do about keeping them free from getting bugs in them, mites, moths, etc. I have two hives, both of my hives are strong and doing well. This past spring I had a total of six swarms, five of which we were able to capture, and gave to my friend to start new hives. Anyway, how do you store your extracted frames for next year’s use. Thanks for all your TH-cam videos, and I appreciate your help and time.
