I'll add some notes that has been misunderstood in this video:
      - The Hive had 61k players on their Bedrock server
      - As well as CubeCraft having 52k
      - Minetrack Bedrock has an inaccurate information with the playercount record since it's playercount records has been reset.

Being inside of empty video game servers always feels uncanny and depressing. Just knowing that there were once thousands of players roaming the servers just for them to be empty now is really sad.

I think you should have mentioned that cubecraft didnt just update to 1.9. They actually split their server into a 1.8 and 1.9 section. Meaning players who joined with 1.8 could play 1.8 with others while players joining newer versions would play 1.9. I think this is a really interesting approach that not any other server really tried. The 1.8 version was shut down a few years ago though due to lack of popularity.

I still play annihilation on shotbow frequently. I am friends with some past devs for the mode and know a few admins as well (myself and my clan in the game would spend our days hunting for bugs then showing them to staff, so we interacted with them a lot). The server has an interesting history, in addition to having a smaller player base now, and a generally younger demographic, the server merged their Americas, Europe, and Asia servers all onto the America one a few years ago. The result of this is that the language the players talk in chat changes depending on time of day.

Ex-moderator of McPvP/McBrawl here, so thankful you talked about us! Yes this specific server formally ended, but game modes pioneered by it most surely haven't! Here's a rundown of the current state of some of them if anyone is interested:
HG: Germany and Brazil kept it going, Germany lasted up to around 2020 with PvP Dojo, Brazil still has it going strong and sees thousands of unique players.
CTF: had players playing daily up until the very end of McBrawl, at that point one one the developers took upon themselves to re-code it again and later open-source it. (We actually had the first test today! 2023-08-20, lots of bugs, but that's normal given it's being made from the ground up).
Sabotage: never died, Brazilian community kept it going till today, the Acorn server (English speaking) is also re-doing the gamemode and should be playable in some time.
KitPvP: BadBoyHalo acquired it for his server (MunchyMC), and it's still going.
Headshot: some smaller servers picked it up, but there's not much demand anymore.
McWar: MisterEpic actually talked about this one more as of recent, given Mojangs stance on guns, also came from our network and the current developer came from McBrawl if I'm not mistaken.

Great video, I was a little disappointed though to see that it wasn’t mentioned how Cubecraft recently removed all of their unique and interesting gamemodes making them just another generic server with gamemodes you can play anywhere else. My personal favorite was tower defense, it was one of a kind as a both co-op and versus team based tower defense. I have yet to find any game that exists, on minecraft or otherwise, which is similar. I still don’t understand why they shut down those extra gamemodes. It couldn’t have cost them that much to keep it going if the whole server was staying up regardless.

Apparently they DID shut down the modes due to costing more and threatened to shut down the server if it declined much further. And the remaining modes have smaller map pools too. The latest development they had was updating to 1.19, so idk much about the server now since I used to play lucky islands there like 2 years ago in 1.12, but the server still exists.

McPVP was my go-to server back in the day. I would come home from school and play on the CTF and Hardcore Games for hours on end. It was integral to my daily routine and helped me mentally decompress. I quit playing Minecraft around 2014, but whenever I came back a few years later I expected to see it still standing, because it was so immensely popular. I was disappointed to find it dead and gone by that point.

I played Hive Java all the way back in 2013 and played it up until it closed. Super fond memories.
I remember back when Survival Games, The Herobrine, and TIMV were the only three gamemodes. I loved the Herobrine game to death and played it religiously in the server's first couple years. When the server announced that the gamemode would be removed after the rewrite update (Java 2), I remember many of the veteran players coming back one last time and we sat in the old maps talking about how much we had fun with the game. I also remember telling them about how I loved seeing all the regular players back in the day and I was too shy to ever say anything. In any case, the game was removed and we never played it again.
Also shoutout to the other five players aside from me who dedicated time to grind the literal least popular gamemode, Restaurant Rush. I started playing it ironically until I ended up liking it a ton and ended up getting to the Top 10. You all were so sweet ^^

I remember one of the few times I fit in and got to interact with others and not feel like an outcast was playing Minecraft at the town library after school. When school was out we'd all run down and pile in, trying to be the first to reserve time on a computer to play Minecraft. I recall the best times being when we'd all play on Overcast Network, we'd all pile in and take part in these MASSIVE large scale mega battles. It didn't matter that I was the weird kid that nobody liked, we were a coordinated squad in an army that got hyper focused and worked together. It was a nice escape to fit in and be happy for a few hours a day. It's a very bittersweet memory, a little nugget of joy in the hell I was trudging through. As difficult as my past was I'd do it all again just for one more session.

Cubecraft is the place where my brother started as a noob but eventually mastered 1.9 pvp. And I was there to watch it happen. Eggwars was his thing. He played hundreds upon hundreds of games and I was always so happy when he won.
Sadly, he no longer plays there as solo Eggwars, his favorite game, was removed like a year ago. But both of us will always have fond memories of this server.

Maybe its also worth mentioning that at one point cubecraft java got an update, where they fixed shields, added crossbows, netherite, swift sneak and new maps (even with the warden) in skywars. The server was very popular at that time and I even saw some smaller ytbers there. After about 2 months however, they nerfed it by removing shields entirely and nerfing the only axe kit in skywars (axes couldnt be found in chests from that point on). Everyone liked it, like why, and it was very sudden too.

I cannot remember the server names for the life of me, but I remember they were owned by ChooChoosGaming and Wizard Keen if any of you remember either of them. I used to absolutely love servers where you build on a plot, and I remember that both servers had that "feature" (Keen's server was purely a plot server iirc).
I remember playing on Keen's server pretty much daily, so I was sad when I eventually saw that I could no longer join the server. I remember making friends on there, so it's a shame to think that I won't see them again. But hey, that's just how things go nowadays.

I have such fond memories of that place, I even have some friends around that I met on there more than 7 years ago. I wish some other server would try to replicate that idea of a main lobby that OITC had. After finishing a competitive game you wouldn’t be thrown into different places than the rest of the players, you’d all be sent back to the same place, that made people chat, form friendships, and grow hate for each other. I think that really made the community so much stronger, it made you form connections with people that you’d actually regularly meet in the lobby, it’s a feeling I wish I’d sometime find another game having. I’m really gonna miss it when it’s completely gone, this video really hit me right in the heart lmao

I used to play annihilation on shotbow almost daily from 2014-2017 with a bunch of my friends. The main reason why we stopped playing/played less was due to the eu server merging into the us server (all our stats got wiped so we had to get them back and the ranks were gone aswell) and the pvp felt clumsy with them trying to go to 1.9 but make it feel like 1.8. The lack of updates and the nerfs to certain kits/strength 2 disappearing also left a sour taste in my friends and my mouth. Also I think they haven't added a new kit since they added Ninja several years ago. However when going back to annihilation during the covid period we did have fun. A lot of familiar faces were still playing or came back during this time and the server felt alive having multiple almost full lobbies.
