  • Living in the PNW, I work with many hard-charging and recreational adventure athletes. Mtn Bikers, Runners, Mountaineers, Skiers, and the list goes on. Many of these sports have something in common; they each use repetitive movement patterns throughout the duration of the day's adventure.
In this video, I'm working to release the lateral torso to differentiate the movement of the hips and pelvis. The Iliac crest (top of the pelvis) has the external and internal obliques, transverse abdominus, and the errector spinae group all attaching along the rim. Each of these muscles helps to laterally side-bend a person. However, when they are over-conditioned and too tight they also limit a person's mobility.
When you contract muscles over and over, and over again, over time, they begin to shorter. Now, you can dedicate yourself to a movement practice that will help increase your mobility.
You can also work with someone like myself who can assess your Myofascial Length and create a customized treatment plan to address the most pressing underlying restrictions.
Structural Medicine bodywork not only stretches the soft tissue, but we also focus on differentiating the tissue layers so the muscles can glide independent of their neighbors. This is pretty hard to reproduce without targeted expert bodywork.
