Thank you for the idea on priming the oil pump on 5.7 hemi. It worked out really well, and everything is primed and full of oil. Thank you. I subscribed to your channel.
I've primed engines in the same manner, one suggestion, buy a cheap inline filter for a lawn mower and put it inline with you tube to make sure no little bit of crud in the tank or oil goes in your engine.
I am very happy to find your video. I just replaced a 5.7 Hemi in a 2004 ram 3500 with a honest to goodness store bought Reman. When I tried to let the starter spin the engine several times I didn't get a drop of oil. After following your excellent instructions the engine didn't even tap when it started.Thank you very much.
Outstanding video guys I have the same cuda and I also have a 426 Hemi in it now and I a backup motor 440 for it And now I'm putting a Gen 3 Hemi on a stand and your video are very informative my son is inheriting this car keep up the good video. CudaRobert
sometimes you can find those old fire extinguishers that are stainless steel i made one to flush trans coolers i also use to prime engines you can pour as much as you want i put a gauge on mine and put about 30PSI and goes real fast
I have filled both those ports with oil numerous times now and still no oil pressure. I have a 2014 Ram 1500 2 wheel drive. There is a 3rd place on the front of the oil filter. It is the oil pressure sensor. Would it hurt to pump oil in that port?? At this point if I can't get oil pressure after all that work , I will just get a new truck. So disgusted. If you can help please let me know. Thanks very much!
About to kick my 2019 “recently transplanted into a 74 A Body” 6.4 over for the 1st time after a cam and spring swap. This was exactly what I needed to know. Thank you!
We would typically want 2-3 quarts in the pan to keep the pickup tube submerged. It’s not required because you are priming the pump and the internals above but good insurance.
Excellent video!! We just purchased a 2003 dodge ram 5.7 hemi that has not ran in 9 years. At some point the oil was drained and not replaced. Engine still turns free with a breaker bar and socket. We are unsure of why the oil was drained and never replaced and want to give the engine the best shot of avoiding any internal damage because of the lack of oil. Thanks!
I have to do my oil pump on my Chrysler 300 its a daily so engine parts does get lubricants. Cant i put oil in the pump spin it by hand and reassemble it?
On the two ports on the side, is the bottom one with the temp sensor oil straight from the pan before the filter and the top port with the plug the oil after it’s been through the filter but before it goes through the rest of the motor?
Great info. Blake, is that top plug that you primed also the same port you would use to put in a factory oil pressure sender in an older vehicle? Think that’s the one you were referring to on the podcast? Thanks!
could you just use an old air compressor hose. use one fitting on the hose from your hand pump thingy and thread the other connector into the block (probably with adapter). wouldnt that allow a quick shut off once you disconnected it and keep the oil somewhat pressurized?
great video ......are 2010 dodge ram hemi heads any good..?.i can get a set what do you think there worth for the pair...?..i want to replace my 05 -2008 heads....the 2010 are the eagles heads right....?
Yes they flow better than 05-08 and can be used. Just be mindful of how they will change your compression and what tweaks need to be made. Many have done the swap
Dont know if it applies to all PCM setups but if I hold the gas pedal to the floor while cranking the engine will only crank and not start ... I do that to prime after all oil changes or if it has sat for a while ..
We didn't know that! But even if it doesn't crank, the oil not being in the lifters and cams could cause some wear initially. We definitely still recommend manually priming it before turning the crank.
Hey guys getting ready to buy my EFI for the Hemi swap on my '83 CJ7, what EFI system works best for the hemi? Or should I say which one would work best in my case. It will eventually get one ton axles and 40's, but I dont need 1000HP or anything. I plan on keeping it pretty much stock. Maybe a cam and heads later.
Yo you the man, lol great idea. I would like to contact you regarding the 05 diy harness, it only shows you have the 03 and 06, does 05 just fall into the 03 harness.
Okay sweet, is there any 4.7 harness that the ram has that will plug right into the 5.7? I have 05 harness and fuse box and computer and the harness that runs to gas tank and rear, just don’t know about dash yet, any tips?
The motor takes 7 quarts do not ad more. You prime the motor first . The oil you use to prime the engine will be part of the 7 quarts. After prime , fill the engine with the remaining 7 quarts.
Prime is very important on these due to the bad redesign of cam location they moved it higher up from center than the original so lack of splash oil at idle
Another easy way is to remove 1 spark plug per cylinder, remove fuel pump fuse, and let the starter do the work by cranking engine over 10 or 15 times.
Good idea to prime a new engine. May someone tell me the Threadsize ( Oilpressure-Sensor ) to prime an Gen 3 Hemi ? Or is it although 3/8 NPT ? Update: Found out, that it must be 1/8 NPT 27 taperd-Thread.....1/8 means an outer Diamter of 9,5mm because of Pipethreadsize.
I did mine exactly like this!
Guys that haven’t done this- this is exactly what you need to do!
Can’t we just unplug spark plugs and fuel injectors and just turn the key for about 20 seconds? I can’t see it being an issue.

Which side port above filter is the pressure out
Thanks
I love Buc-ee's!! Great video guys!
The best! Our wives won't go to another gas station restroom again.
Thank you for this I'm about to put a new oil pump on my hemi and didn't know I had to prime it let alone how to do it.

You are very welcome!
Quick question Is your motor oil in the oil Pan already or are you doing this before you add the oil
We would typically want 2-3 quarts in the pan to keep the pickup tube submerged. It’s not required because you are priming the pump and the internals above but good insurance.
Doing mine as soon as my new heads arrive. Should I do the bottom hole 1st or does that matter? Awesome info

Thanks we are trying to help make this easier
@@SUBLIMEparts Do You have oil in the engine before prime
Thank you for this!
Do you have to pull the valve covers?

Do you have to prime after oil change and oil filter change?? Thanks 👍
Not at all if your just doing maintenance. This is just if you pulled the engine and it’s bit sitting a while
Great info. Blake, is that top plug that you primed also the same port you would use to put in a factory oil pressure sender in an older vehicle? Think that’s the one you were referring to on the podcast? Thanks!
Slicknapier, that is correct my friend!
So, it is safe to assume a feller could add a manual oil pressure gauge to the upper boss so we have electric and mechanical gauges?
could you just use an old air compressor hose. use one fitting on the hose from your hand pump thingy and thread the other connector into the block (probably with adapter). wouldnt that allow a quick shut off once you disconnected it and keep the oil somewhat pressurized?
Yep, that’s a great idea

Factory efi is highly recommended in this application

05 is its own year. It’s nearly identical to the 06-08 but has a few pins swapped around in the body connector

How do you prime a 6.4 L gas engine?
how much would y’all charge to do a 4.7 to5.7 swap
Sorry, we aren’t performing swaps for clients at this time. It’s a service we may start again in the future
Good video. Im guilty of cutting of my oil adapter bung

I think the point is to prime it before spinning the motor over without oil for the first bit.
Yes, prime all critical engine parts like connecting rod bearings and etc before using starter. You do not want to crank engine with bearings dry.
Genius !!!
I got the fitting that's the Barb fitting. What is the size of the other fitting that goes into the block
Is there a way of priming the crankshaft. I went all 9 yards on this engine and I would like to prime everything
