Let's take a minute to admire the smart move Bandai pulled on us: clear armor, which is EXACTLY what we need for any inner frame paint applications to shine. It's only sold in the first batch. This model is gonna sell like hot bread (and I hurt my wallet but just ordered mine...).
While I'm not a fan of the limb designs on some of Kyoukai Senki's mechs, I must admit that is a very good looking kit for a 'non-grade'. A cut above the standard of the Full Mechanics IBO kits.
For anyone wondering the Full mechanics Kenbu Zan is also amazing! Has a little extra armor and a big ass sword but unfortunately no awesome big gun 😢 but it does have a cool gun that goes on the arm which is also pretty cool.
I picked up the HG kenbu last year and I loved it. The articulation was insane! it looked so cool up on my shelf. But it’s waist just randomly snapped. I don’t know how I just picked it up one morning and it broke.
@@leonardode-pinchy3234 if it's the ball joint that snapped then you'll need to drill a hole into both the ball and the other joint and put a brass tube there to reinforce it
I have to say, I really like the idea of the hands here having the back be part of the swappable bit. It seems like it allows for a much more secure attachment for both it and the accessories than the standard MG swappable fingers, which just have that palm peg holding all the weight.
I chanced upon one of these about a month? ago? Been waiting for your review on this, and I agree. It’s been one of my favorite builds so far this year. In fact every kit out of the kyoukai senki line so far has been a joy! A rock solid build with a non standard feel. Last time I enjoyed a build this much was when I put together the RG Eva unit one. It and it’s smaller brethren are fun escapes from Bandai’s usual offerings
You mentioned the anime not being very popular, but bandai has been making a few models. It kinda reminds me of classic bandai in the 90's and early 2000's when they were making models of just about anything Mecha related. I hope we're getting back to that trend with some of the new RG's that were announced. Thanks for the review!!
Got this straight when it came out and it's fantastic! My biggest disappointment was the fact that frame parts and Kenbu specific parts were on the same runners, which makes it unlikely we'll see the other mechs from the line. At least we're getting another Kenbu!
I'm sure that's really intentional in design since the protagonists(the 3 characters) amaim/mailes are similar for the chest/body. While everything else is entirely different throughout. So I can see it making a bit of sense
What impresses me most is that it's thankfully sturdier (and better-looking) than the NG IBO kits. Eat your heart out, Post-Disaster timeline. Ken Okuyama's Hondam did it again.
I love seeing that I'm not the only one with dog hair just everywhere while building lololol. I've got a corgi and a husky and let me tell you, it's EVERYWHERE. When you open model kit and let those runners breathe for the first time, fur just zaps in place from the static.
I wanted to watch the anime before making the decision to order this and I gotta say I had a pretty good time! Nothing too fancy, but something I can easily sit back and watch while relaxing from a hard days work! I binged the series and then proceeded to order it xD
The Kyoukai Senki Mecha is making me appreciate Gundam G40 a little bit more Ken Okuyama's aesthetics is just doesn't fits with a humanoid mech like the Gundam
It's more that Ken Okuyama went for a design philosophy for the G40 that kind of had sports car influences on it, which along with a desire to combine insane articulation with a "retro" appearance made the kit kind of odd-looking. The Kyoukai Senki designs on the other hand stick to a purely mechanical and futuristic robotic appearance that doesn't attempt to be anything like the G40, and as a result comes out much better.
its so nice that kyoukai senki kits do not get much attention, since we(senki kit fans) can take all the stock :) it def does deserve much more attention tho.
i just bought mine on that reccommendation, i do love the related anime which has been a great tide over between Gundam series,.. this kit is gonna look sick on the Shelf!
God I just, this is absolutely beautiful as a model kit. It pretty much does what a mecha model kit does and does it amazingly. Too bad I still don't really like the design for these mecha, but hey as a model kit enjoyer I think I'll still love it to bits.
I love the design of kyoukai senki mechs they remind me of Halo Elites because of legs and when I put side next to gundam it looks like Spartan and Elite.
Just saying, I thought an iron diaper wouldv come out about this by now, and Im personally very excited, but a new RG was announced. And its a big one. The Barbatos is finally coming to RG!
When you say "easy kit", are we talking easy for someone who has not built one ever? I've always liked these models, aesthetically, but have never purchased and built one. Past week, I've had the urge again to buy my first gunpla and see how I enjoy the building side. I know I'll love the end result, presuming I don't ruin it, placed in my room. I've watched more videos and just getting to grips with the grade acronyms and the scales. I really like the wild looking Gundam, but looking for something good to start off with. This one looks a nice mecha, and being a solid model I imagine better for a first build? Less likely to break if bit heavy handed trying to join? Good video
I got back into the hobby over the pandemic after like a 20 year gap, and there's lots of great ways to start off! The Kyoukai Senki designs are great for beginners as the builds are super simple with lots of big, solid parts that hold together really nicely. There's minimal fiddling with small detail parts and stickers too. In terms of the rest of Gunpla I have a few beginner kit recommendations: Any Entry Grade kits. The EG original RX-78-2 Gundam is possibly the best small-scale model of that suit yet, between the great color separation and absurdly cheap price (highly recommend spending the extra $5 for the version that comes with the full weapon arsenal). The EG Strike also looks great, though feels a little barebones in terms of what it comes with compared to the OG Gundam. Grunt suits. Basically any suits piloted by mook pilots across the franchise. This includes stuff like the GM, Zaku, Jegan and Jesta for Universal Century, the Leo for Wing, the Dagger L and Windam for SEED, the Graze for Iron-Blooded Orphans etc. These kits are great for a number of reasons. They're simple, they look great, they're inexpensive, and they're customizable.
If you’re worried about breaking it during assembly, then maybe try the HG of this particular mech, which is also very solid. It’s cheaper too so mistakes are less costly.
@@misbehaven1237 cheers. This looks a fair price itself, but then with shipping considered it does jump up. So probably sensible to try a cheap a model as can initially. Not that I think I'm heavy handed, but just honestly never done any form of model kits. Thanks for advice

How is this compared to the FM Aerial? Seems to me that for a FM kit, this thing is closer to a Master Grade than most Full Mechanics kit out there having a full (yet not too detailed like MG) innerframe which makes it more MG-like than the Aerial and SEED kits. It has a cockpit which usually is a feature not present on FM kits but on MGs, and superb articulation. The fact that this thing has a full innerframe with a cockpit, comes with full color separation and very nice surface details makes this kit stand out from the FM line more than any kit I've seen imo. Even the sword and claws technically aren't color-inaccurate as you can say they are in their inactive state.
i gave the anime a try expecting a remodeled gundam anime but surprisingly got hooked due to the robot designs and a descaled size of the story which made it more enjoyable and easy to digest
outside of this and the giant gundam, are there other mecha kits in the 1:48 scale? i do a lot of modelling/diorama building in that size, and i'd love to include some huge mechs in them as well!
Mine had a weird mishap out of the box. The right thigh armour plate had an odd gray spot on it, that wouldn't go away with a file or with paint thinner. Dunno what it was. Everything else in the kit is fantastic, i would absolutely rate this gundarium tier. First kit i ever painted, but i just painted the pistons using the colour index and all 3 blades with silver along the edge. Anyone else looking forward to FM Kenbu Zan?
I actually wanted to ask, what do you use to get rid of the splotches for the pour type markers. I’ve been using a regular eraser for getting rid of smudges and stuff, but that doesn’t really work. I think you’re using some sort of rag, but I just want to be 100% sure so I can effectively use the pour type marker

Hey Mecha, I was interested in seeing if you could review some Code Geass 1/38 scale model kits? They have some old tech in them but it would be interesting to see if they are any good now days.
Hi Carmine! I actually used to have a whole bunch of them back when I lived in Japan because then used to be really cheap from recycle shops. I had the old Vincent and the Lancelot and to be honest I really didn't like them. They were so simple that they felt unfinished and very toyish, kinda like the Danball Senki kits. Back in 2016 Bandai released the Alexander which was a really great little kit and one that I wish that I still had, that one I recommend if you don't mind painting the details on the kit. I should be able to get my hands on the new HG Lancelot Albion that is out soon, as far as I know it's heavily based on the older Lancelot, so I'll make sure to give that one a review!
I think Bandai was going to launch some kind of campaign for Kyoukai Senki water slide decals. I'm not sure if it's some kind of exclusive waterslides or if there's a chance of a regular release.
I was going to comment that you could have compared it to the kits from 86 since they're also 1/48 scale. Then I noticed you never reviewed the newer Reginleif, did you get them? Are they good?
I actually prefer some of the side character mechas over the protagonist mecha tho. Hope some of them get a FM version, tho HG Amaim is already pretty cool.
so i know the amaims are smaller than Gundams, but how much smaller? like to scale, would they be around the same height as, say, a Patlabor, which stands around 8 meters tall if i recall correctly?
@@YiminyCricket let’s see here. The heavygun is about 15 meters tall I think. And a standard GM is about 17 meters tall so I would say maybe up to the heavy guns torso near the cockpit area (I’m mostly guessing here).
The anime’s designs on the mechs is by far my 2nd favorite aside from gundam, i mainly love the way they make the knees and elbows, it’s unique but simple

so i know the amaims are smaller than Gundams, but how much smaller? like to scale, would they be around the same height as, say, a Patlabor, which stands around 8 meters tall if i recall correctly?
@MIRAGE MAZINKAISER SAGA aaah okies
If I were to guess I’d say they would be up to a gms waist maybe a bit smaller than that.
@@babyyodaco9345 oic... and how would it compare to a smaller GM, like the Heavygun?
@@YiminyCricket let’s see here. The heavygun is about 15 meters tall I think. And a standard GM is about 17 meters tall so I would say maybe up to the heavy guns torso near the cockpit area (I’m mostly guessing here).
@@babyyodaco9345 hmmmm
Are there waterslides available for this yet?
will there be full mechanic for byakuchi? it would be really nice
I wish!
Heya guys I would like to know. Do the Full Mechanics have a pilot like MG model kits?
The anime’s designs on the mechs is by far my 2nd favorite aside from gundam, i mainly love the way they make the knees and elbows, it’s unique but simple
This kit will need a Full Mechanics “fucking truck” to go along with it
Bandai nee to hire you as head of plamo planning. That's the greatest idea I've ever heard!
Kyoukai senki line will have water slide decal for hg models
Free now on HLJ with any Kyoukai Senki kits shipped 😁
Thoughts on JoyToy Hardcore Coldplay, I’m sure us Gaikotsu 💀 heads would enjoy a review, waiting on a Hunter and Enforcer 😁
I think the anime is underrated, I wasn’t a fan of at first cus the progression of the story is a bit slow, the mech design takes some getting used but I’m really sold seeing it on kit form
