  • Let's automate the applique process! I'm going to do a sew-along with #loriholt and make the #CalicoGarden quilt my way using the #brother #scanncut and #simplyapplique or #BES software.
    PLEASE NOTE: The designs that make up the Simple Shapes are the intellectual property of Lori Holt. Once these have been digitized as I do using the ScanNCut, the resulting digitized files (.fcm, .jpg, .svg, etc.) can NOT be shared or sold in any way. This would be considered a copyright infringement. Please be a proper steward of Lori's designs and keep them for your own personal use.

    What a great video to see first thing this morning. I’m excited you used Embrillance as I have that software and it’s great to see your instructions with it. When I get my scan n cut it will only be because of your videos teaching us how to use it. Thank you so very much, you are truly an awesome instructor. I have said this before but I say it again - Brother should have you as an instructor! Have a great day 😊❤

    Becky, you understand your viewers so well. This is exactly what I was wanting to learn and the steps from the ScaNCut ( or use Canvas to edit easier on a bigger screen) to using Embrilliance to create a multi layer Applique and send it to my Brothers sewing machine. Love that you showed how to use the new button holder foot too. 🎉🎉 what a great teacher, and supporter you are and you have given me the courage to Applique with my tools I have. 😃

    hi, sewing buttons on without button foot. use some uhu or washable sticky paper glue stick to put button where you want it, then take your foot off and drop the foot and it will sit on the button and keep it in place then zig zag as per PTWT. if you have a lot of buttons to place put some blue tack on the end of a pencil this will enable you to pick up button place some glue stick on back then place button where you want it and sew them on. you can put all buttons in place and sew them all at once. you don't ned to wait for glue to dry. this is the method I used 30 years ago and still use to this day. cheers

      The SDX 85 will do all of what I'm doing. amzn.to/3ICUXlL It can't use a 24" mat, so you'd have to run the blocks twice on the 12" mat. But the SDX85 scans and cuts the same as the top of the line machines. You'll have to use an app on your phone to transfer designs to Canvas (or use a USB from the SNC to your computer to the Canvas. This one is from the Brother store and comes with a Brother warranty. amzn.to/3ICUXlL

    Becky obviously it’s ok to put the buttons on before quilting. Is that because you would choose a quilting pattern that doesn’t run over the buttons ? 🤷‍♀️. Sorry for the stupid question but I’m not sure of the procedure

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will be doing a stipple on this quilt so I will go around the buttons. I don't want to add them after quilting because my hand sewing skills are no good about not catching the quilt backing.

    Becky, I want to do applique with a blanket stitch on Simply Applique (have 30 days free trial) would I be able to save designs on a USB stick, then transfer to a Brother 4500D and it'll stitch out ok?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be able to save in the free trial. I'm not sure because I never did the free trial. But you should be able to because they have the demo version that is free to use but you can't save on that one.

  • @vickrickers

    Morning Bek. I was wondering can you do all the appliqué building in your Luminaries instead of the software? I would love to know if it can be done. Thanks. Love your videos all the way from Brisbane Australia.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So here's the thing... In short, yes you can. However, fcm files are not embroidery designs. You'd have to import each shape from the SNC into the Luminaire via MyConnection. Then pull it up in Design Center and then convert it to an embroidery design and then save it as such. You'd have to do this for each shape. Then go to a new design on the main screen and pull each one up individually and then move them on the screen to where they need to be using the Add button for each one until it's complete. You'd need to think about doing the stem first, then adding each shape in order to alleviate moving things around, etc. It is SO much more work that way. Honestly, if you have the Luminaire, you should do yourself a favor and just get Embrilliance Stitch Artist 2 and do it in a couple of clicks the way I did. For less than $370 you'll make your life SO much easier for years to come. bit.ly/3KpK7ki

      @@PowerToolsWithThread
      Thanks for your honest opinion. I thought it was like that somehow. I don’t have Luminaries, I have Dream machine but was wondering if updating to one would allow me to do it without software. May I ask which is easier In your opinion since you have both Simply Appliqué or Embrillance stitch artist 2. I do have Embrillance already but not invested in Stitch Artist 2 as yet. This was the first video I have seen you use Stitch artist over Simple Appliqué. I wonder why Brother hasn’t put Simple Appliqué in their My Design centre as yet. How much easier would it be for us all. Thanks you. Enjoy you day.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vickrickers Also forgot to mention that you'd need the Luminaire XP3 to create the blanket stitch. So a used machine that hasn't been upgraded won't do that. Since you already have Embrilliance and are familiar with the interface, I'd recommend Stitch Artist 2. The BES & subsequently Simply Applique have a bug in them that on some designs, for no apparent reason, will not do the blanket stitch. It will do the satin stitch but won't convert to the blanket. You don't have that issue in Stitch Artist 2. Also, some svg or fcm files will convert to have the blanket stitch backwards - like a coffee cup with the blanket stitches to the inside of the finger hole vs to the inside of the handle. You can fix this in Stitch Artist but you can't in Simply Applique. Stitch Artist is just a superior software that you can put on multiple computers at one time vs. just the 2 licenses you get with Simply Applique that can only be used one at a time. As far as why Brother hasn't put Simply Applique into their machine brains, I think it's because the software is owned by a company called Pacesetter and it's not a Brother product. At least that's my best guess. Great discussion! Thank you!

    My large mat will not scan. I have a sdx 125 model. It will cut on it, but can't scan to see if fabric is in right spot.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  ปีที่แล้ว

      The 125 cannot scan a large mat. It will help to be very careful with fabric placement and also cut your fabric just a little bit larger for some breathing room around the cuts.

  • @scottydog6539
    @scottydog6539 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a Scan n Cut and I also have a 12 x 24 mat. This mat is for my regular Scan n cut Not the DX. I thought I read that the DX machine cannot read the regular large mat.
    The DX machine needs a DX 12 x 24” mat. Do you use a DX long mat?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, none of the mats for the older CM machines work on the new SDX machines. I had an older CM with a 24" mat and when I bought the SDX, I had to buy a new 24" mat. The 24" mat in this video is for my new SDX 325 machine.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd draw the lines on the fabric and use a tight zigzag stitch to stitch on the lines. You might put a piece of no-show mesh under the background fabric or a small piece of SF101 behind the lines to give it some stability and prevent puckering. Test first until you get the settings you like on your machine.

    My question is about the placement of the attached buttons when you go to sew those blocks to another block at the top. Aren't those buttons going to get in the way of your foot when you sew the blocks together? Should the buttons be attached after the blocks are sewn to the block above it?

    • @cindyg1243
