Gawith and Hogarth Black Irish Twist. Not a big fan of lakeland essence, and I heard it had a strong hit if vitamin n. Tastes like the best burnt ends off a slow smoked brisket. I have to be in the right mood to enjoy it, but I liked it enough to add a bunch to the cellar.
I’ve been hearing a lot of people saying they like the floral notes of some Lakeland blends. Maybe I’ll revisit them. Just not rose water essence. Can’t do the grousemoore.
Sam Gawith 1792 surprised me. I received 2 ounces untinned and the aroma put me off(being a Lakeland Essence) I kept one flake and gifted the rest. I smoked that solo flake and was it a 180° turnaround from the tin note. I went in the hunt and now I have 5 tins coming Thursday. I realized I actually like it after all.
Funny. I love the Scottish Mixture and it doesn't bite me. The one that surprised me is Erinmore Flake (not Mixture). Opened the tin and the tin note put me off. The smoke is very different. One of my favorites. I'm trying Capstan Gold. After my third bowl, I'm beginning to like this more. Initially the Virginia was too bright for me, but I think I'm really starting to enjoy it.
Before today I thought it was the topping, moisture or sugar content that caused Scottish Mixture to bit me. After smoking it in the calabash I now have a different view. It’s just how it reacts to my palate. Delicious as it is, it just doesn’t give me a good smoking experience. Erinmore is a great tobacco. One I keep going back to. Capstan blue was the same for me at first. But when I slowed down to watching the fireworks and just sip on the pipe, 💥 it just clicked.
MBSM. Very bitey. I think it has more to do with my mouth chemistry. I mix it with Burley which tones it down without losing the Virginia sweetness. SURPRISE. Peter Stokkebye Proper English. I love English/Latakias, but this one is the perfect balance. Not a Lat bomb, not a wimp.
So jealous that pipe is gorgeous Pirate cake surprised me too, my Aromatic that surprised me was Vanilla Cavendish by Smokers pride, I didn't like black Cavendish at the time...also Gordon pym, ps Luxury Navy flake and cringle flake

Ennerdale Mixture…I don’t care for most aros, and was surprised by just how much I like the heavy floral aroma and flavor.

I agree with proper English. Just smoked a bowl the other day. Never disappoints. It reminds me a little of early morning pipe and Larry’s blend.

One of my favorites vanilla aromatics is Stanwell vanilla. So good.
