@@MekMalazan sorry but no please reread and note the word usage of "I think" vs "I know" and "probably" rather than " it is certain." I was an English major. Words matter. And besides, acting as a character you play, is not acting, it's acting. It's not sinning. People can portray themselves differently to different people. It does not make them liars, perhaps maybe somewhat disingenuous. Words and their meanings matter and distinguishing between similar words is called nuance. I'd suggest one of the Episodes with Mother Natalia, a byzantine Catholic Nun, (I believe there are 3 of them now), or of the videos with Fr. @Pints With Aquinas, don't take for granted what Dr Harrelson is saying about southeastern Ky. He's dead on. Theres a protestant church on every corner... but Catholic churches are few and far between. I too live in southeastern Kentucky... and I'm in the process of trying to cut myself a path to the Catholic Church. It has been difficult. There's one Catholic church in my area, and I want to start RCIA as quickly as possible. I've devoured basically everything Catholic I can find on youtube, and I thank God for channels like this, people like Dr Taylor Marshall, and also Exorcist priests I've found on youtube like Fr Carlos Martins, Bishop James Long, Fr Vince Lampert, Msgr. Stephen Rossetti, Fr Dan Reehil, etc. Unfortunately I don't quite have the support Dr Harrelson does, , I'm kind of more on my own. Like Dr Harrelson I grew up in the Church of God. Unlike him, I ended up becoming disillusioned with it, because unlike most, I actually started to study the scriptures. What I found in them, didn't really fit with much of what I was hearing from behind Church of God pulpits. I too wanted more... and when I began to find all these Catholics on youtube, I QUICKLY began to understand that all of the horrible things I had heard about Catholicism all my life, was all WRONG, and all came from a place of fear and ignorance. Sadly, WILLFULL ignorance. I don't mean that in a disrespectful sense... but rather from the literal sense... They just don't know what they don't know. My mother has lost her mind after I told her I wanted to become Catholic. Her exact words were "You are WAY out in left field now"... My response was, No Mom, I think maybe the problem is that you guys have been way out in left field for far too long. As I began to learn about the Catholic church from actual Catholics, they knocked down every single thing that the Protestantism had taught us about Catholicism, one by one, and things suddenly began to make SO much sense. I thank God for people like Matt... Who is bringing the truth of the church to those of us who never had the opportunity to learn it. So, Thank you kind sir! :)
@PintsWithAquinas About an hour and 20 minutes into the podcast Alan is dead right. Back in April I watched your interview with Steve McCaig, and after hearing his treaty of the Marian Dogmas I decided to join the Catholic Church. I'm starting OCIA this September. I credit St Benedict, Steve McCaig, Ethan Dolan, and you Matt for bringing me into the Church, and so many have come to the Church from your ministry. Glory to Jesus Christ!
Great interview -- Welcome home Dr Harrelson! As a cradle Catholic, I have to say that some of our Church's best appologists these days are converts. These are difficult days for the Church (and the world). I think God is bringing you all home for a reason. God Bless.
Man I love listening to Alan Harrelson. Similar story with me - why didn't someone ever tell me this Catholic stuff before? I came into full communion with the Catholic Church in April 2014. Welcome home brother Alan! BTW, I began smoking a pipe after watching his Pipe Cottage videos.

My grandparents owned a bakery in a village in Germany. In the 1950ies, the people living there were still living like in the 19th century. My grandmother told me that she would meet kinds of people that you just don't meet today anymore. One particular customer she told me about was an old man that had lost all of his teeth but one. On that tooth, he would hang his pipe with a thread and so every time he talked, the pipe would bounce up and down. I was reminded of this anecdote while listening to the stream.
Memories of my Dad as a Commander inthe USN and doing homework at his desk, being distracted as a third grader by his pipe resting there, and my Godfathers love of pipes. Love this session.

Welcome, in advance, to Dr. Harrelson and your wife to the Catholic Church. You are so blessed to have your wife come into the church with you. I became Catholic in 2015 (former pentecostal pastor and missionary) and my wife has yet to follow me into the church- very difficult in the early days. And besides, acting as a character you play, is not acting, it's acting. It's not sinning. People can portray themselves differently to different people. What a treasure to wake up to this morning. I've followed Dr Harrelson for a little while now, a very insightful man.

I was nine years behind my husband coming into the Church. There was nothing he could have done to change my heart and mind. It was only when he released me totally into God's hands, did I feel free to begin to consider the possibility of " what if?" It's a painful journey. God bless the two of you.
My grandparents owned a bakery in a village in Germany. In the 1950ies, the people living there were still living like in the 19th century. My grandmother told me that she would meet kinds of people that you just don't meet today anymore.
