You are on a good path to build bigger and tougher. That's why I watch these vids.

Man makes do with the tools he has and if they aren't precisely what he needs he adapts them to do what he needs. Not what the original designer wanted them to do.
Who said you can't use small tractors to do a days work. Might not have the capability of a full size machine but it doesn't come with the large monthly payments either.
You should be manufacturing these attachments for small tractors so the common man who owns a small wood lot can bring the logs in without killing himself or his back and increase his productivity safely without having to take out a second mortgage.
I've heard lots of people look at small tractors and say " to small" this proves them wrong.
All you need is something to make the day easier and you have proved it.

Thank you for you comment James! you know the real aim for use little equipment!
Always time i say ; Big equipment big problem, Little equipment little problem!
And the target is not productivity just past the day with free back pain.

Why does man build machines? To do something without trying to kill somebody's back and do it a wee bit quicker than by hand.
Possibly easier way to skid logs using a peavey hook to roll log or lift slightly to allow you to insert pice of 1/4 or 3/8ths steel sheet with a short plate welded to the front with a couple of braces for strength so it won't bend. Use the peavy to lift slightly so you can slide the steel sheet under the end you will be pulling from. Wrap the choker where you would normally hook it running the cable through an eye at the top of the 45 degree part to keep the steel sheet in its place when winching it in it should prevent dirt from piling up as the log is dragged. Essentially it's a small sled for dirt to keep the log above the dirt reducing drag.
If you try this and it works that is all we ask call it " that dang sled " it shouldn't weigh more than 15-20 pounds at it isn't the for pulling just getting the log end above the dirt.
Best of luck and just maybe it will make the little tractor not try to flip and jump around when skidding logs.

A car hood works great and can have more than one log(if can pull)

Great video. I have a youtube channel with my firewood operations. I was looking on youtube for some fabrication ideas on how to do things a bit more efficiently. Like your idea and it didn't cost much so you do not have big payments to make. As we know there is not a puddle in the firewood business. Looks like you found a niche. It may not be perfect or perfectly safe but it is your idea which is what makes it great. Great thinking.
Good to see a father and son team. That where I learnt my trade. My father and I spent countless amount of time logging. Sometimes I wanted to go chasing girls so at times it was hard for Dad to get me in the truck. I am glad he did it and enjoyed working with him most of the time. Enjoy

you do realize that you could drop a log onto your lag. at least that's what it looks like watching you. nice idea....all of it...but I think you need to install a heel on your boom.

      @DanyBouchard78  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks I look what I can do.

    • @markmarchand8376

It should be fairly simple, half inch plate cut out to wrap around the last reach on your highab. What else do you do. I take it that you built everything in the video. Back to the heel; with it you will be able to lift the logs higher on the far end and maintain more control and in the long run its safer and you will do less damage to equipment. I build a lot of stuff myself and I'm right into this kind of thing. I'm almost ready to start building my own fire wood processor. That's why I stumbled onto your sight; looking for ideas. lots of smart people out there. Anyways my email address is markmarchand@gmail.com
let me know how everything goes.

How did you build the grapple? Just a bearing and 180* swing using cylinders? Or hydro motor with a big gear? I'm building a fel and mini hoe on my 1977 jd. 300 and want to make a grapple adaptor as well. Let me know thanks for show your great work. Merci.

  • @joeyoliver579

He has to put his hand in the box almost after every cut... not good, not safe. Automation is what its all about, but automation of hand/finger removal isn't a good thing.

at 15:45 leaning in and getting real close to the rotating saw blade, and then at 17:48 with the power saw. The saw blade should retract further away from the active area and/or have more protective skirting. Glad me or my son aren't working there.
