Great video. I’m a Dublin Bus driver on route 16 and my top tip for tourists is to buy a Leap Card in the shop in the airport. You don’t need to order it and have it sent internationally. The shop is called Wrights Food Fayre and you pass it on the way from the terminal to the bus stop.
yes guys in fact nowdays almost any shop sells them. and yes it is the best advise in fact. as you can use it for every public transport . bus . tram(luas) and train(dart).
@ my favourite spots in Temple Bar have practically all closed since the Pandemic, the tourist traps are better able to survive because of their outrageous prices. My favourite spots in the city would be Fibber McGee’s/The Living Room, there’s a courtyard/beer garden that connects the two venues, it’s brilliant for a sunny day or when there’s a big sporting event on, they’ll show it on a big screen. If you want the “Irish pub” experience, it’s best to get out of the city because that’s where you’re going to get the best value. For those, my recommendations would be McNeil’s/The Top House or The Bloody Stream in Howth. Both great options that often have live Irish music. The Bloody Stream is located right below Howth Train Station, so you can get there from the city centre in 25 minutes, then get right back on the train if that’s what you wanted to do, but Howth is a very beautiful town that’s steeped in history, definitely worth exploring before having a few drinks.
Love these recommendations 🥰 I have a controversial opinion about temple bar. I don’t think it is as bad as Irish people make it out to be but you have to know how to do it right. Paying crazy money in tourist pubs is not the way to go 😔
@@Live.Adventure.Travel Don't get me wrong, I can see the appeal of The Temple Bar, it's always hopping, they get great musicians in to play there and it is a lovely venue, it's quintessential "Irish pub" but where I start to have a problem with them is the price gouging and leaving tourists with the impression that Dublin is much more expensive than it is. It's already an expensive city where people are being ripped off left and right, but they really push the boat out when it comes to their prices. The pints out in The Bloody Stream are by no means cheap either, but they'd still be almost half the price of a pint in The Temple Bar.
This video is so packed with great tips that my wife and I said we need to watch it again and take notes! Thanks for all the links, too - we'll be checking those out as well.
Great video as always. I love your videos. Some of your previous ones were very instrumental in helping me plan my family's 2023 17-day road trip around Ireland.
Excellent video as always Laura, I will second two of your recommendations, coming from Canada I used Airalo in Dublin and it worked perfectly, also Radical Storage was great when I had to leave an Airbnb earlier for a later trip and needed to store my bag, it turned out to be a restaurant backroom, 100% safe and super easy.
Thank you! This was a well-done video. The family and I (six of us) are visiting in June 2025 for eight days, and we've written down lots of notes based on your information. Subscribed :)
I'm saving and forwarding this video for any and all of my US friends for when they come to visit. Your style is perfect for someone who wants to learn something and not be sold to, so I'm sure it will be well accepted.
Where else did you go? What else did you see? Skellig Michel is where they filmed Star Wars. Cong is where they filmed A Quiet Man, with John Wayne and Maureen OHara. Northern Ireland has all the Game of Thrones. There are ten thousand other sites to see as well.
I purchased an Irish wool sweater in 1994. I still have it. I'm going to Dublin towards the end of the month and I think I might pack it to take with me. Btw, when I purchased it, I bought it with Irish pounds.
We loved that most of the sweater shops we went in, will ship to the US for free, with certain level of purchase, we never had an issue making that dollar level.
As an irish person from Dublin i can tell you that getting a leap card and then getting a coach /train or hire a car to get down the west coast or somewhere in Connacht is definitely worth it because Dublin has lots of tourist attractions but going down the country is honestly the best i would recommend west cork
I would be careful when using Leap Card on the LUAS. Once you TAG on, you can keep going, but you MUST tag OFF and tag ON when switching from Green to Red or vice-versa. I've seen some people getting big fines recently because they didn't do that.
We found that for us (we were in Dublin for a week before hooking up with our week-long tour. After looking at hotel rate etc, we booked a VRBO and it was great. It was within an easy walk from our bus stops, and at the end of the day, the return bus stops was right across the street. For the bus we bought a Leap card at the Spar market and used it all week. There was also a fabulous public transport app that went with the Leap card, probably the beat public transport app I’ve ever used. We took day tours out of Dublin all week. We also found that the hotel we used to meet our tour group was right near Kilmainham Gaol, and did not have time for a full tour, but the woman at the ticket counter told us we could use a surrendered ticket (which she gave us) to just tour the museum. It was enough to get i formation about the history of the Gaol, etc, and for the brief time we had, it was an interesting experience. We absolutely enjoyed our trip to Ireland!
Great video! As a local, I would encourage visitors to Grafton Street to look out for and tip (many now take cards!) buskers such as the Brown Eyed Sisters at 16:43. There are many excellent performers such as Allie Sherlock, Zoe Clarke, Kylabelle, Brinda Irani, Fionn Whelan, Jacob Koopman, Dylan Harcourt, Key West, not to mention 10-year old Portia and 84-year old Vincent! ❤❤☘☘
The Oneills Maddox puffer jacket is a great rain winter jacket. I bought one on my last day in Dublin as I was heading home to a cold winter in Australia. Best 60 euro spent
thanks laura, im contemplating a trip probably later in the year and not a big fan of crowds. a bunch of great info you put together, i owe you a pint for sure
Hint for car rental.... like was said in the video, AVOID DOING IT AT THE AIRPORT! Get a taxi to Budget Car Rental on the Drumcondra Road, it's way cheaper, no sneaky airport fees and insurance scams for tourists, you'd rent the car like a local. I have family visit from Australian once or twice a year and I always rent a car this way for the week or 2...... it's awesome :)
I'm from wicklow. I had try it, but the barlady liked me and wanted a date but I was meeting someone........ she was absolutely gorgeous 😍 my date never worked out 😅 but anyway, she is too young. I'm 55 she like half that age
We will be in Dublin on a cruise for just about 8 hours. Please recommend top of the top attractions we must see in the city. Many thanks in advance! 💗
We visited in 2018. To be honest, Dublin was our least fave part of our Ireland trip. We much preferred the smaller towns, the rural scenery, and the pubs. That said, we made a good visit of Dublin. Did a music pub crawl, which was fun...as we are both musicians. Yes...,.we did the touristy thing of seeing Riverdance at the Gay Theater. Did the prerequisite visit to the Guinness brewery and I learned to pour a "parfect" pint. We tried to see the Book of Kells, but that didn't work out. But in all, we absolutely LOVED our Ireland vacay....so much in fact, that we returned this past spring.
Thanks for this advice! I always want to buy local items made by local artists. If I wanted something made in China I’d go to Walmart. Heading to Ireland in March and trying to avoid the touristy stuff.

We use to have an Irish phone for when we were over visiting from the US, but now the big 3 providers (Verizon, T-Mobile, ATT) all have international service, which depending on your plan may already be included in your service. Really no need to get a second number via e-sim.
Living in Manchester U.K. 24 years, Irish passport holder and as a native of Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, where I still have extended family, I prefer to use SailRail or overnight coach via Chester, Birmingham (for the coaches from London, connections from Manchester) and onto the ferry at Holyhead to Dublin, as I dislike the hassle of flying and airport security - but since Covid, I’ve found that planning trips from the U.K. has been increasingly unpredictable and unreliable with last minute delays and cancellations, sometimes due to rail strikes, which happened after my 54th birthday in Dublin in October 2022 and I ended up being stranded in Holyhead for 2 days, unable to return to Manchester, despite my attempts to avoid the strike by changing outward and return travel dates - is there any way to avoid the pitfalls of this - transport from the Irish Ferries Terminal at North Wall into Dublin City Centre remains a huge issue with no LUAS or DART Underground link, as aside from Nolans’s Coaches & Dublin Bus, taxis to/from the Port are very limited, especially with luggage - not even Bus Éireann has a direct coach link despite being beside the Port Tunnel/M50, taxi drivers can’t get their sat nav’s to work, not even water taxis are an option
Planning a trip to Dublin next summer and this looks like a lot of incredibly helpful info - thanks in advance!! Did i spot you at Croke Park? Anyone else going to see a certain pair of brothers there live in '25? 😎
Some of the ticket machines in train stations dispense Leap cards now - got one in Heuston recently. Dunno why Iarnrod Eireann don’t make that more clear tbh
Just found your page and love your content! We’re spending 24hr in Dublin before flying to Budapest, what sites would you recommend prioritizing to see within good distance to the airport?
I have been watching your videos all morning! I am taking copious notes. Thank you, thank you for all this information! My husband and I are planning to visit Ireland in the fall of 2025 and we were expecting to rent a car. We will only be spending a day or two in Dublin before traveling throughout the country and then ultimately making our way to Scotland as well (using the ferry). What would you recommend in this situation? Is there a good place in the city to rent a car so that we can take public transportation until we are actually ready to leave Dublin and explore the rest of the country? Thank you so much!
Such a great video yet again! We appreciate it and I took notes! We wont be renting a car because we just dont want to deal with all of that. If I wanted to get from the airport to Clontarf Castle would the Aircoach or Dublin Express buses be the best plan of action? Leaving from Ireland, our tour guide group provides free transfers but coming in, we will be on our own since we are coming a day before the tour to stay at the castle.
Laura, you are the BEST. i've followed your tips over three trips to Ireland, and you've been SO helpful. Wondered if you could spell out the names of the areas you said to be extra careful when touring Dublin? One was a street and one was "The Boardwalk" along the Liffey -- is that a specific area, or anywhere along the Liffey? THANKS as always, you're a doll
Awww so glad they are helpful for all your trips. Talbot Street, can be fine at times but a higher chance of anti social behaviour in this area. As for the boardwalk, there is certain parts that would see more bad behaviour than others but there isn’t really a reason to walk on it if I am being honest as a foot path runs along the Liffey too 😊
Laura-Grace, I hope to visit Ireland this year or the next and I want to really visit Limerick county and city as my ancesters came from there. Are you able to make a tour of this area please. I heard it is a rough area of the country. Thank you. I love your vlogs.
Uber is a regular taxi service app here. There is fixed pricing regardless of which service you use. Regardless of whether you use an app or flag down a taxi, the price is the same, though some drivers will attempt to get cash from you to dodge paying tax.
I disagree about Dunnes and quality clothing.. I feel the quality has massively gone down but the price point has remained higher on most stuff in there
I love your insight on the city! I'll be visiting in May, and travelling the island in a camper van that I've hired. They want an extra $100 USD to get bedding for the van. Do you have a suggestion for somewhere inexpensive that I can purchase bedding from?
Yes, Penny’s and Dunnes have home departments (Mary Street and Henry Street have a big selection). However, if you need to buy a duvet ect then it may end up being that price anyways. If it’s just covers/sheets then I would 100% buy a set 😊
I would go with the UK, because they have a lot more monitisation options...and sometimes get things months/years before Ireland on all social platforms. Not just TH-cam. How much you make on adsense really depends on who watches the video rather than where the creator is from...and even at that some do well ...some don't...there is really no way of knowing...as each video has it's own pricing if that makes sense. Honestly, TH-cam is A LOT of work, I uploaded for free for years before the channel was monitised. It can take me 3 days or well over a week sometimes two to put a good video together. And it may only get 10k views which could be less than €1 a hour for the time invested. Or, I could get lucky and get a well preforming video...you never really know...I would create the channel over the love of making the content vs how much money it makes if I am being honest. And then come up with alternative moitisation methods along side growing the channel to ensure you are covering investiment time. I also don't know how it would work tax wise, if you where to set up in a country where you don't pay taxes too. As you need to fill out that info once accepted into the creator program. Could be something to look into before creating the channel. Long story short, the only way creating a channel in Ireland VS the UK would affect you is the 'new' features being offered to the Irish channel at a later date. And then taxes, depending on where you are from. Hope this helps.
Hi, ☘️🇮🇪 I like your tourist videos, they are in the top tier I would say. So this comment is NOT just for you, but you’re the lucky one who gets to read it. 🤷🏽♂️ So, of all the places I have been, there, there are several that almost get any video time. 1st: Collins Barracks. It is important for the fight for Independence and has very good museums. Nice gift shop as well. 2nd: Irish Archeological Museum I cannot stress enough that any historical tour you do ON the island will be enriched by going her before or after. I went to Co. Meath and saw Hill of Tara and other things and then here. It made the entire Tour come ALIVE! 3: Kilmainham Gaol: One cannot truly say they have been to Ireland and not visit the place where our heroes were killed for the fight for Freedom. (You did mention this) 4: Glasnevin Cemetery: (and Gravedigger’s afterward) If you have Irish family heritage, since the time this cemetery was opened, you probably have family buried here. Along with the fighters on both sides of the Irish Civil War. 5: Pool Beg Lighthouse: Ok, it is harder to get to but the view is amazing and it is free. See Dublin Harbor and the high/low tide. 6: Chester Beatty Museum (near Dublin Castle) what can I say, an amazing collection of global artifacts donated to the City of Dublin by a wealthy man. You will not believe all they have, and a place to eat as well. 7: St. Audoen’s Church (the older one operated by the OPW) a literal living relic of days past with the look and feel as if you are there. Very few people find this as with the places, so lines will normally not be an issue. 8: The Celt & Cobblestone pubs Not related to each other at all but let’s be honest, The Temple Bar Pub gets enough damn coverage, these are straight up legit Irish pubs for Irish patrons 9: Get the Feck out of Dublin you fool. See the rural side even if from the DART OR LUAS! Watch out for the sea gulls! (Flying rats, they say)
Laughed out loud when you said our public transport system is decent, and then again when you said google maps will give you the real time information as though it’s actually accurate 😂 born and bred in Dublin and have been burned by our public transport system too many times to count
Everyone thinks their public transport is shite. But compared to the once-per-hour route service that many US cities have, US citizens feel like yours is really very good. And I say this as a 62 year year old transport planner who lives in the US but has visited Dublin about 20 times in the last 30 years.
@ the difference is that the majority in the US learn to drive when they’re young. In Ireland, most don’t learn til their mid twenties as they can’t afford it. Also I grew up in Dublin with twice per hour bus services, and I’ve spent many hours sat at the bus stop in all sorts of weather just waiting and late for college. Buses often just don’t show up, and at peak times if they do show up, are completely full and you have to wait for the next one which is likely also full. Yeah the public transport might be better than in the US, but I’m willing to bet that people here are much more heavily reliant on our public transport system than they would be in the US. Get a job in Dublin and commute across the city for a month during peak hours, then get back to me 🫡
Laura you are excellent. Very honest informative advice. My dad used to say if you need advice on where or how to get to places in Dublin, ---dont ask a Dublin person 😂
Dublin is a fantastic place to visit. It is NOT Ireland, there is soooo much else. Buy the LEAP CARD and use the Luaus. Trinity College is the other side of Dublin from the Guinness Warehouse, however, it is close enough with the Luaus. Also check out the National Leprechaun Museum in the Jarvis section and Phoenix Park, (which is a day trip by itself).
Yes, you can get from Trinity to Guinness easy enough by bus (not Luas). However, there are many attractions to do in both area’s so it wouldn’t really make sense doing them back to back. I’m gonna make another video on how to best explore the city location wise 💛 Thanks for recommendations always nice to read what your favourite parts where. Glad you enjoyed your trip.
I went to the National Leprechaun Museum the year it opened. My kids were young and I thought it would be a good laugh. I was pleasantly surprised by it. I now recommend it to anyone that is interested in Irish folklore. I don't think the name does it justice as it's way more then just leprechauns.
How is it unlikely for a tourist to have euro coins? Especially if they are Europeans... 😅 Not sure how much a single ticket costs on the bus, but if it's like 1 to 3 euros, it's quite likely.
I suppose it depends on what country you’re from and how much cash is used. I’m personally always caught out when I need cash cause I never have it. It would be rare for me to purposely go take some out. Couldn’t tell you the last time I had coins 🙈 but the bus is also more expensive if you pay in cash, it’s €2 with the Leap card and €2.60 without.
I was in Dublin last week and got caught out with the bus/payment system. Getting to my Airbnb from the city was a challenge as it was in the sticks by Montpelier Hill, and in order to catch a coach to Cork, I had to resort to an expensive uber which was €41 🙄 I’ve literally been all over Europe, including Romania in September and even they have more up to date ways of paying on buses
I mean, they can literally buy a leap card from almost everywhere. If I'm not wrong there's a SPAR as well there.
yes guys in fact nowdays almost any shop sells them. and yes it is the best advise in fact. as you can use it for every public transport . bus . tram(luas) and train(dart).
The biggest mistake I see tourists making mistakes in Dublin is in Temple Bar, thinking that The Temple Bar is the best place to go.
Where would you recommend

Yeah, there's only really the 53 that goes down there.
Pennys in Ireland its called primark in uk, really pennies, though, because its irish
do Dublin bus not sell rambler anymore. You could get 3,5 days rambler
We will be in Dublin on April 15th and looking for a food tour, any recommendations?
How about a place for big and tall that might sell rain/water proof jackets? For men that is.
The Guinness storehouse and trinity college are walking distance of each other! Or hop on the bus for about 2 stops😂
Just found your page and love your content! We’re spending 24hr in Dublin before flying to Budapest, what sites would you recommend prioritizing to see within good distance to the airport?
What about A Breakfast Roll from Donal and Declans on Bolton St ❤
Leaving from Ireland, our tour guide group provides free transfers but coming in, we will be on our own since we are coming a day before the tour to stay at the castle.
wish there were sections here so you could navegate through the topics you wanted to see :)
Penny’s is no longer Irish owned, it is owned by a British company since about 2017 or so .
What’s it like on st Patrick’s day?
Laura, you are the BEST. i've followed your tips over three trips to Ireland, and you've been SO helpful.
Wondered if you could spell out the names of the areas you said to be extra careful when touring Dublin? One was a street and one was "The Boardwalk" along the Liffey -- is that a specific area, or anywhere along the Liffey? THANKS as always, you're a doll
Awww so glad they are helpful for all your trips. Talbot Street, can be fine at times but a higher chance of anti social behaviour in this area. As for the boardwalk, there is certain parts that would see more bad behaviour than others but there isn’t really a reason to walk on it if I am being honest as a foot path runs along the Liffey too 😊
@@Live.Adventure.Travel It also depends on the time of day. Early morning and after dark are the times to avoid the boardwalk.
Lyons is just PG Tips rebranded these days, so Barry's.
Laura-Grace, I hope to visit Ireland this year or the next and I want to really visit Limerick county and city as my ancesters came from there. Are you able to make a tour of this area please. I heard it is a rough area of the country. Thank you. I love your vlogs.
Good tips but no scams
Thanks for all the information! Is Uber a good option if needed in the city and also to the airport?
Uber is a regular taxi service app here. There is fixed pricing regardless of which service you use. Regardless of whether you use an app or flag down a taxi, the price is the same, though some drivers will attempt to get cash from you to dodge paying tax.
@ thank you.
I disagree about Dunnes and quality clothing.. I feel the quality has massively gone down but the price point has remained higher on most stuff in there
Dunnes was never high quality
A great job.
Hi Laura i purchased a duvet 15 tog double in dunnes stores. it got un stiched or got damaged. please help me what to do here in this case??
hows that her problem
I love your insight on the city! I'll be visiting in May, and travelling the island in a camper van that I've hired. They want an extra $100 USD to get bedding for the van. Do you have a suggestion for somewhere inexpensive that I can purchase bedding from?
Yes, Penny’s and Dunnes have home departments (Mary Street and Henry Street have a big selection). However, if you need to buy a duvet ect then it may end up being that price anyways. If it’s just covers/sheets then I would 100% buy a set 😊
@Live.Adventure.Travel thank you so much! 😄
Guyneys on Talbot Street.
Has anyone visited Northwest Mayo? That’s where I would like to go
Hi Laura could I ask if Irish TH-cams make just as much in con as UK citizens? Not sure whether to open a channel based in UK or Ireland
@ thanks for such an informative answer, that’s really helpful ☺️
Hi, ☘️🇮🇪
I like your tourist videos, they are in the top tier I would say. So this comment is NOT just for you, but you’re the lucky one who gets to read it. 🤷🏽♂️
So, of all the places I have been, there, there are several that almost get any video time.
(You did mention this)
4: Glasnevin Cemetery: (and Gravedigger’s afterward) If you have Irish family heritage, since the time this cemetery was opened, you probably have family buried here.
8: The Celt & Cobblestone pubs Not related to each other at all but let’s be honest, The Temple Bar Pub gets enough damn coverage, these are straight up legit Irish pubs for Irish patrons
9: Get the Feck out of Dublin you fool. See the rural side even if from the DART OR LUAS!
Watch out for the sea gulls! (Flying rats, they say)
born and bred here, my ancestry goes back thousands of years just like most lol, but Ill still watch this to see what I dont know haha
Jaywalking isn't a thing. You can be fined for crossing dangerously, but crossing dangerously isn't jaywalking.
Love you 😘
Or your flight gets in at 5:30am, and the morning bus driver doesnt show up and the other drivers are all mad!
Take the DART to Howth on Dublins northsside.
I went to the National Leprechaun Museum the year it opened. My kids were young and I thought it would be a good laugh. I was pleasantly surprised by it. I now recommend it to anyone that is interested in Irish folklore. I don't think the name does it justice as it's way more then just leprechauns.
I love the oirish they are soo simple
Maybe you should do one of these kinds of videos with other towns and cities in Ireland, y'know to follow your own advice and not stay in Dublin 😂
Tallaght is a hidden gem. make sure to visit there!
How to avoid bad areas.... number have exponentially increased last two years.
people don't buy clothes for long term they are wore a few times then dumped
Watching this in Dublin bus😅
I was in Dublin last week and got caught out with the bus/payment system. Getting to my Airbnb from the city was a challenge as it was in the sticks by Montpelier Hill, and in order to catch a coach to Cork, I had to resort to an expensive uber which was €41 🙄
I’ve literally been all over Europe, including Romania in September and even they have more up to date ways of paying on buses
Simple u didn't plan easily done for 10 euro
Penneys, not Penny's. :)
