Since I have been to Ireland nine times and it’s my favorite subject people seek my advice. The first piece of advice I share … take a map of Ireland, fold it in half, and then pick a half. Do not try to see the entire country in ten days. The second piece of advice … take time to walk on the Irish soil, breathe the Irish air and most important, meet the Irish people.
I've been travelling to Ireland every year for 40 years and this is the best advice I could give to any traveller. It has been shared with all my relatives back home..
I'm Irish but live abroad. I'd say 1) B and Bs. Great welcome and great advice. When driving in Ireland I'd say don't plan too much. I just in A direction. Stopped at a B and B and asked if they had a room. If they didn't they always contacted someone who did
My wife and I are planning a trip to Ireland this September. I've watched a bunch of travel tip videos, and this is the best one! Understandable, to the point, valuable, relevant, usable information. No annoying music. No cutesy, staged moments. But after checking out your other videos, I was disappointed to see you didn't do a video on places in Ireland you would suggest visiting. Maybe one is coming in the near future? Fingers crossed!
I'm so happy you enjoyed the video! I've watched a ton of videos as well so when I made this one my goal was all of what you said. I plan to make more videos on the various places we went that I loved. Stay tuned!
Haha! Thank you 🤣😁😊 It was a lot of work upfront but so helpful while we were there. I think we were able to see more places and make the most of our adventure!
Thank you for sharing your tips. We are going in June and appreciate the practical advice! Your planning work is awesome and it's so good of you to share! ❤
@coricurran6935 Glad you found my video helpful. I have not been to Scotland. I did London in a day. Lots to see there and I would get a pass for their underground transportation system so you can get around easier. London kind of reminded me of New York. Hi! We’re all planned and booked for September. I just found your video, and thank you! I noticed you have an itinerary chart in the video? Not sure if it’s yours, but is it something you can share? Thanks again!

In timestamp 5:03, what car is that? Going to Ireland in a month and that appears to be the size we need for our rental. Thank you for all the great tips!
Glad you liked the tips! I believe it was a Seat ATECA that we rented. I had not heard of it prior to renting but it was a great size and just what we needed.
Good tips here. Just for the record - Irish bacon is bacon it just comes from a back cut. US bacon is usually thin slices of belly bacon. In general Irish people would regard US bacon as overcooked, so don't be surprised at the difference, just enjoy it!
You wear them over your pants. I usually wear size medium, and that's the size I got, and they fit great. These are the ones I have: amzn.to/401ifL9 I like to wear leggings under mine so I didn't have to size up. Depending on what you plan to wear under them, it could make a difference.
Thanks for these nuggets of info.👌🏽🇮🇪 one query ! Do you have any tips for someone who will not be renting a car ? Trains, buses etc ? Please please … Love your quirky sense of humour & your expressions 😀
You are very welcome! Here are my tips for bus and train travel. Thank you 😀 Bus and train tips - We did a train from Limerick to Dublin in 2007 and it worked great - Planning is very important as you can't just get up and go, you are more reliant on a time schedule - busses run less times on Sundays - you may have to walk from a bus stop a ways to get to your destination - what luggage you bring is very important cause you have to transport it on a bus and train and walk more - when someone says it's just a short distance to walk, double what you are thinking it would take - best part is you don't have to drive if you aren't comfortable with it - you can take bus tours of popular places - It just takes a little more planning and you may not see everything you would like to - it is a great way to visit Ireland for the first time though
I haven't been to Northern Ireland yet. I would recommend anywhere along the wild Atlantic way. The whole west coast of Ireland is stunning to see for the first time.
Awesome! I love your videos. So detailed and informative. We’re planning a 2 week trip in September flying from Portland, Or into Dublin. Curious what airline you used to fly there?
In Ireland, if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 mins. It is very changeable, one minute the sun can be splitting the skies, next minute the heavens can open. So yes, bring some rain gear if going walking. Normal bacon (or rashers) here is back bacon, it's not ham. If you want American style bacon ask for STREAKY bacon, asking for crispy bacon will mostly work too but you may just get normal back bacon just done crispy. The type of fuel your rental car takes will usually be on a label next to filler cap or in the inside of the fuel flap.
@victorianorris7917 I haven't done laundry while I was there. You can always contact the hotels you will be staying to inquire. I remember seeing a laundry option at some of the hotels we stayed at for a fee. I know I've seen laundry options at some gas stations too.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'd hate to give that city a bad rap. Hoping it was just our experience. I would still go back to the city based on the scenery in the area.
You will have so much fun! I haven't been to Belfast. I would see the Wicklow Mountains while you are in Dublin. So many great spots near Galway 💚 Enjoy!
It depends on the town and time of year. For the most part, stores are open on Sundays. If you are there between October and March they usually have more limited hours and some stores and restaurants/pubs close for the winter season.
Seems like you had great experience with the car rental. What company did you use? Have been reading about a lot of negative reviews about car rental in Ireland.
@worksmartful it was a challenge to find a large room with multiple beds. I would look for hotels that I liked, then go to their website and see what rooms they had available.
2:00 so let me get this straight -- guests of the hotels in Ireland are locked INSIDE during what the management determines to be appropriate sleeping hours, according to them. Therefore, should there be a need to evacuate for say a bomb, a fire, a flood or a horde of snakes (I know I know - it's Eire, there are none) then there is no way to get out?? Surely you have to be kidding. Right?
Excellent point! I thought the same thing, what happens if we have to get out in an emergency. We weren't locked in with a key but the locks were different from what I was used to so it took some time to figure it out.
Not all hotels are locked up at night especially in the larger towns and cities. Just talk to reception and they will give you heads up on how to get in and out at night or early mornings.
The smallest roads start with L and have 3/4 numbers, Google maps will send you down these little roads so ignore that direction! Back bacon is what you usually get for your breakfast, streaky would be unusual but might come with pancakes. Generally, the staff get the tip even when it's on the card, but we always check. If you're just visiting cities, I wouldn't bother with a car.
😂streaky bacon is not eaten by people as a rule it is used to feed the pig we had pigs when I was growing up if we had a whole pig the streaky was boiled with all sorts of scraps it was called fodder.
Technically, they’re not two different countries. They’re two different jurisdictions. Like going from state to state people in northern Ireland can be Irish with Irish passports or British British passports or both. I don’t know of any rental agencies that have any difference between the two jurisdictions
Even though they weren't the friendliest, I would still visit there again. There were only a few people and I don't want those few to ruin the reputation of the town.
We like our roads actually, they're beautiful. Much nicer than motorways everywhere, that would cause major disruption to our tranquil way of life. We do have big roads, called motorways, you can find these on a map. Electrical outlets in bathrooms where people can come in tired, drunk, drugged or innocent and electrocute themselves. Insurance requirements. Plus safety building regulations. We do call bathrooms bathrooms when there is a bath there. A toilet, when there's a toilet. And nothing if you ask for an empty room. Cars are small because we're logical. Ireland has a high level of car ownership in which most you'll have just a single traveller. No need for big cars unless you're carry others 😮.
Thank you for your clarification on these topics. I love the small roads as well, they are beautiful! I love Ireland and everything about the culture. I wanted to convey the differences so people are aware when they travel to Ireland. When you travel to a different country it's nice to know what to expect.
all good tips ,but there are cultural things that need to be mentioned ! Never call us irish british or a part of the UK it may seem a small thing but they are historical reasons we are not part of the UK and its not just a quirk of politics 2 never order a carbomb or black and tan cocktail in ireland especially not the carbomb because people were actually killed by those things in both the republic. @troytempest290 There's benefits to both! You could stay in one place and really immerse yourself in that one area. Seeing all the different areas is nice too though!
I would Like to let you know they Northern Ireland, is not a different country. The country you visited is full Ireland. And the it is occupied by the British empire. Irish people take grave exception to the six country’s of our country being called a different country. We have 32 country’s 26 are in the southern part. Very soon we will have 32 counties back.
