  • Another challenging hunt at Blackpool with my old faithful Excalibur II. Started of with motorway closed so delayed the hunt, then usual rain at Blackpuddle. Plenty digging still.
    Enjoy in full HD.

      Blackpool was teasing me as first cut decent signal "Florin" then all down hill from there.

      Hi iain,
      had to get the Scallieboo out for a run. She was getting jealous about the CTX and Deus. Still a brill detector for the beach especially with the SurffoneS.

    Hi. Good hunt and video. I just got a ctx so yet to try it on the beach and as I live in St Anne's on sea I should I suppose have a go with it. If you fancy some company next time in Blackpool just give me a shout as St Anne's in just down the road.

      My Blackpool hunts tend to be short notice as generally visiting my parents to fix something or other.
      As from June they will be more or less finished as my parents are moving back to Scotland so should be hunts from Nairn beach in future.

      Hi Phil you still in St Anne’s? Just wondered as I’m up the road in Blackpool and am looking for someone to detect with.
      I have a couple of good permissions as well as the beach so if your interested let me know. Cheers

      4 am you have to get up that early to catch the low tide at 06:35
      Always the same when I go to Blackpuddle the tides are always early :)
      I have had a good number of florins. This one even after a clean still has the purple tarnish. Must be the sewage at Blackpool yuk!!

      Looking forward to the beach's getting replenished but Blackpool don't see the numbers nowadays compared to it prime years ago. Going to be doing Bournemouth more now as Blackpool has been heavily worked over now.

    Hey Mal, I want to start metal detecting on Blackpool beach. Please can you recommend me a good metal detector to use. Love the videos, keep up with the good work!

    • @malcolmpotter

      Hi FullMovie thanks for watching and your comment.
      All depends on your budget but don't choose a VLF detector as Blackpool now is all wet sand and VLF detectors are not suited for this. You need a Minelab FBS or BBS machine to get the best out the beach.

      Minelab Mal Sorry to bother you but I can't seem to find the metal detector you recommend me. If it is possible, please could you link me to both metal detectors. Many thanks, Owen.

      Minelab ETrac, CTX or Excalibur. These are the ones I use or the Sovereign which is an old detector now but brilliant beach detector. CTX and Excalibur are both waterproof

    Newbie to detecting here, could you say why black sand is good as you mentioned please. Thanks

    • @malcolmpotter
      @malcolmpotter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy, thanks for watching and your comment.
      Black sand or base clay is where most of the heavy items sink too and cant really go much lower into the sand as its very dense and compacted at this point. Most will settle in the first few inches of it after sinking through the lighter brown sand. Will also form concretions around the metals hence why don't throw the lumps away till you crack them open. Thats why I always dig holes even with out finds just to find this layer in detecting range. Plus many detectors cannot see into this layer so best to seek it out on your hunts.

    Hi all, just wanted a bit of advice/feedback from you. I've just purchased myself the garrett ace 400i, kind of the maximum i could afford really, be nice to of been able to spend more. All i was asking is, has anyone ever used any of the garrett range on beaches, and if so how did it go? And feedback would be appreciated

    • @malcolmpotter
      @malcolmpotter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Aidy, thanks or watching and your comment.
      As for the Garrett you may struggle with it like all VLF detectors on the wet sand. back off the sensitivity if it becomes unstable to get use out of it. Wet sand detaching is the domain of the multi frequency detectors mainly from Minelab. The Garrett will be fine on the dry sand :)

      The CTX set up correctly will be slightly deeper than the Excalibur in Pinpoint and a good bit deeper than the Excalibur in disc. I only hunt with the Excalibur in pinpoint to get the best from it. I use the CTX in all metal and set up the tones for the disc. Check out my UK beach program. Many use it round this big blue planet of ours with great sucess.

    Hi is a Teknetics EuroTek Pro ok for the beach ?

    • @malcolmpotter
      @malcolmpotter  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daren, you need really for wet beaches think of the Minelab FBS detectors like the ETrac, CTX or Excalibur. The Eurotek will be ok for the dry sand but for the wet you need a more specialised detector. Blackpool is all wet sand hunting.

      My eurotek pro works well on the wet sand. Just need to keep the sensitivity down a bit until it quietens down. Still gives good depth.
