Once you got to way of the Nioh, your options were pretty much narrowed to: make an OP build (of which there were not many), or find one move that works and spam it to victory. Neither option is fun for long term, for the players who wanted to just explore the depth of the combat. Though there are, admittedly, many that players who enjoy "x build go brrr", or "x attack go brrr". Enemy variety was also pretty bad. Nioh 1 is a great game for 2 playthroughs for sure, and built the foundation for Nioh 2 and beyond. But 2 is better in every way, especially for long term skill play. For instance: customizing your abilities, way more abilities in general, as well as 4 new weapons. Enemies, especially bosses, would vary how they fight you, new moves, using previous moves in different ways, etc; as you go into the higher difficulties. Gear, especially Graces, offered entirely new playstyles, and had a ton of variety for everyone. Combat was just deeper as a whole, and you could overcome with skill alone, no build needed, and no spamming 1 or 2 moves needed. And the Yokai counter was the best mechanic for reaching that depth. Nioh 1 doesn't deserve to be shit on, it's a great game (except for abyss). It's just so basic compared to 2.
@@Farumazula762 Nioh 1 has a certain charm to it, I won't lie. I'll always prefer 2 for all the great additions and quality of life updates but 1 is still a perfectly enjoyable and genuinely well-made game.
And the way to tell the difference between mimic chests and normal chests is the rows of horizontal gold bars on the corners, normal chests have 2, mimics have 3.

Do you have a moment to talk about Flux and Flux II? Took me a playthrough of Nioh 1 and 2 playthroughs of Nioh 2 before checking out some material online as I was going into Nioh 2's DLC 2, encountering it, and I forget if I already had or never bought it fearing it would be convoluted, it's not convoluted at all and Flux/II are the best and most useful upgrades in the game, bar none, and easy to execute too, way easier than they seem from afar. Speeds up your gameplay so much you get so much more ki, it's beautiful. It took me so long, whoever is reading this be saved today, try out Flux, please, it's the best choice you can make.
God I remember getting stuck on Hino enma for so long when I first tried nioh. Been playing nioh 2 for the last 2 weeks and I'm almost at WotN, the power scaling is real.
Was banging my head against her for so long on my 1st playthroug that at the end i knew everything she can throw at me and exactly how and with what timings. Studied her so well she have never been a threat to me ever since even on WotN and futher endgame. Now also on my way in Nioh2, going through DotW
@@DavidOblivion Ive managed to cobble together a 6pc susano 7pc magatsuhi build using the Yokai cleaver dual swords over the last week. Slowly clearing the underworld. Catwalk/tiger run/sneak scrolls have become my best friend for just grabbing Jizo kodama and booking it to the crucible lmao. Plus the AAA stealth from the ongyoki soul core.
The only soul like i ever have Beat, great game, insane story, always funny how William speak english, a everybody else spoke Japanese Nd some how they understood each other. What a game.
@@thegk-verse4216 tried dark souls 2. Did not love it. Tried dark soul 3 (i still own it) i liked it enough, but never beat it. I got burned put of souls like after nioh dlc, i beat the in game, and the first dlc pack, after beating lady María, she killed me at least 100 times. And that really make me lose all my confidence. After that the second dlc put me vs a fucking ninja as the first boss, and i literary made so little dmg that i became frustrated. So i have not played a souls like since then.

Nioh 2 is probably my favourite game when it comes to combat, only Dragons Dogma and Monster Hunter can keep up for me. And when it comes to branching out and trying new games for the channel, I'm perfectly fine with it, your videos are always quality, no matter the game!

God i just plat base Nioh and i can't believe how frustrating it was since it took me getting my shit kicked in by Shigezane for hours to finally understand how the game actually works. Now I've hit another wall known as "gear progression", like i can't make heads or tails of this system so WotW is kicking my ass.
I loved both games but my biggest issue was the longer I played the more time the game forced me to spend in the menu's with armor/weapons, I really didn't want to do that.
I literally just beat the DLC last night at 4AM. Picked up this game time and time again and never finished it. It was way too much trouble to play it. Never had any issues with other souls likes, even bad ones like Hellpoint and Dolmen. But this game... entirely different. But I always loved the boss designs and that's what made me come back to it each time. I must admit, it felt really good finally beating this one. And it really is underrated. But boy, does it have a steep learning curve and it's near impossible if it's your first soulslike. Thankfully the odachi combined with sloth talismans does wonders
Excited to see how Rise of the Ronin turns out. The director for Nioh 1 and 2 (Fumihiko Yasuda) is working on Rise of the Ronin, while Stranger of Paradise and Wo Long had different directors. Hopefully Rise of the Ronin will be of similar quality to the Nioh games.

I got to abyss floor 999 with my friends it tired me out i couldnt even play nioh 2 when it dropped because it felt similar but i now decided to pick it back up and i dont regret it just needed my break

Great game. I feel bad because I wasn't paying attention to it for a long time. I don't know, I just had some prejudice against soulslike label. I liked every From software game, but I saw some other soulslike games and wasn't impressed. Boy, was I wrong about Nioh. Started playing it recently and I'm enjoying it immensely. It's definitely not simply a soulsike game, it is so much more. What I love the most about Nioh is that it's combat system feels fresh and unique, it's complex and engaging and very different. The japanese folklore gives this game a unique flavour. While I love interconnected worlds in From games I kind of like Nioh self-contained missions.
I only managed to beat her the first time because I had already played Nioh 2 before 1 so I was already familiar with the commands, maybe that's why I found her simple
I just went back after 3 years and got the platinum for nioh 2 idk if I'll ever get 100% there's just so much grinding Involved but I'm proud of of the platinum I just finished it 2 days ago

I remember this game bricked my build and then I quit. Turns out making a tank build isnt possible. You just dont get 1 shot instead at highest ng. Nioh 2 tho, goddayum. I do prefer nioh 1 premade character over custom for story though.

This is 1. Both have their positives. 1 is slightly less complex with a more coherent story, definitely easier to get into. 2 has a create a character but the story is all over the place and the systems can be somewhat overwhelming. They're both top tier action rpg's. The key is to take your time and not feel like you have to learn everything at once, feel comfortable with whatever you know first and then move on to learn other mechanics. On Nioh 1, 2 and Wo Long I just grinded the first level for a few hours, tried different weapons until I felt comfortable with something and then moved on. There's no rush with Nioh, the more you rush the more you struggle. The grind is far more rewarding than that of Miyazaki games.

@@abaddonimpaler9917 one thing is with the nioh games don't rely on weapon parries, only human enemies can be consistently parried. They are more of the bob and weave kinds of fights. In nioh 1 especially. But in nioh 2 there is a skill for Odachi (giant katana) that allows you to parry anything as long as you get the timing right look up "what can Bolting Boar actually parry" also Pooferllama and LastToLoad have amazing tutorials for the combat systems.
Ah good times that one-eyed Oni in the cave section gave an ass beating you wouldn't believe until I figured out other stances and weapons existed lmao P.S this game still has the weirdest element weakness system I have ever seen Water is weak to fire and Lightning is weak to water I had an aneurysm when I found out
Yes. Nioh's one of those games where blocking can only take you so far, dodging certain things is a must, but your character weight rapidly builds up with even mid-grade armor unless you focus the stat to make your equip burden high enough. problem also is, that you need *other* stats to get bonus effects from said armor, half the time. so its a major case of "are you a tank with buffs to make you even tankier, or are you a speedy glass-cannon, with buffs to make you not get ONE shot, but two?" Also if you're in a combo you can block and try to roll mid-ass-beating but not many people realize that until much later. unlike Souls, you CAN generally block out of a combo and try to reposition. But Nioh also has VERY vicious status effects, right off the bat. The Bat Lady in this video, uses Paralysis, which if you dont have the item (or ninjutsu) to cure it, will lock you in place for much longer than you'd think it should. Elements are also NASTY. even if you take elemental chip-damage, elements in Nioh (Nioh 1 especially) will chucklefuck you. Fire does DoT damage but can be put out by rolling in water or just spamming dodge roll. Water *makes you take more damage from all sources.* Wind *cuts your attack power down to damn near nothing.* Electricity *slows every movement and animation including healing.* Earth heavily restricts your KI recovery (your stamina bar). and if you get hit by more than one different element at once, you get smacked with Chaos, which is just basically if you get Breathed on, you die. You *can* apply this to enemies though. Elemental status effects are a thing that goes both ways, though some resist certain elements so hard the meter looks like it never builds, and some can shrug off the statuses quickly. A major strategy a lot of players used was get a weapon with an imbued element naturally, then pop a second element on the weapon to trigger Chaos, and then go ham. Personally, Electricity was my favorite cause it slows EVERYTHING down, giving you breathing room. Nioh 2, the elements are much less painful, and Wind is gone entirely. But if you want an "easy' first run in Nioh one, go full Ninjutsu build. Learn the Kusarigama, pump dex HARD, get that Shinobi gear, and you will be slaughtering everything in no time, and have many useful abilities through the main game. the DLCs and NG+ however, arent as easy.

On Nioh 1, 2 and Wo Long I just grinded the first level for a few hours, tried different weapons until I felt comfortable with something and then moved on. There's no rush with Nioh, the more you rush the more you struggle. The grind is far more rewarding than that of Miyazaki games.
@Upon-Fe Thanks for the reply! I'm definitely going to download it. I'm in NG+ in Wo Long and I just love the fast pace and thought I would give Nioh another shot. I had tried it once very briefly. The game play in the video looks too good to pass on. I've really only played Miyazaki RPG's.

@@abaddonimpaler9917 one thing is with the nioh games don't rely on weapon parries, only human enemies can be consistently parried. They are more of the bob and weave kinds of fights. In nioh 1 especially. But in nioh 2 there is a skill for Odachi (giant katana) that allows you to parry anything as long as you get the timing right look up "what can Bolting Boar actually parry" also Pooferllama and LastToLoad have amazing tutorials for the combat systems.

If you think elden ring or darksouls is hard... oh boy you're in for a treat.
Yes.
Nioh's one of those games where blocking can only take you so far, dodging certain things is a must, but your character weight rapidly builds up with even mid-grade armor unless you focus the stat to make your equip burden high enough. problem also is, that you need *other* stats to get bonus effects from said armor, half the time. so its a major case of "are you a tank with buffs to make you even tankier, or are you a speedy glass-cannon, with buffs to make you not get ONE shot, but two?"
Also if you're in a combo you can block and try to roll mid-ass-beating but not many people realize that until much later. unlike Souls, you CAN generally block out of a combo and try to reposition.
But Nioh also has VERY vicious status effects, right off the bat. The Bat Lady in this video, uses Paralysis, which if you dont have the item (or ninjutsu) to cure it, will lock you in place for much longer than you'd think it should. Elements are also NASTY. even if you take elemental chip-damage, elements in Nioh (Nioh 1 especially) will chucklefuck you.
Fire does DoT damage but can be put out by rolling in water or just spamming dodge roll. Water *makes you take more damage from all sources.* Wind *cuts your attack power down to damn near nothing.* Electricity *slows every movement and animation including healing.* Earth heavily restricts your KI recovery (your stamina bar). and if you get hit by more than one different element at once, you get smacked with Chaos, which is just basically if you get Breathed on, you die.
You *can* apply this to enemies though. Elemental status effects are a thing that goes both ways, though some resist certain elements so hard the meter looks like it never builds, and some can shrug off the statuses quickly. A major strategy a lot of players used was get a weapon with an imbued element naturally, then pop a second element on the weapon to trigger Chaos, and then go ham.
Personally, Electricity was my favorite cause it slows EVERYTHING down, giving you breathing room.
Nioh 2, the elements are much less painful, and Wind is gone entirely.
But if you want an "easy' first run in Nioh one, go full Ninjutsu build. Learn the Kusarigama, pump dex HARD, get that Shinobi gear, and you will be slaughtering everything in no time, and have many useful abilities through the main game. the DLCs and NG+ however, arent as easy.

That's the trouble playing the sequel first. It is better in every way. I still regard Nioh fondly but yeah after 2 it's just not the same gravy.
