- Klay Thompson, Naji Marshall and Quentin Grimes were introduced to the Dallas Mavericks today with their press conference. Mavericks news after week 1 of 2024 NBA free agency has mainly focused on Klay Thompson and what he can bring to the Mavericks alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving which has Mavs head coach Jason Kidd foaming at the mouth to get the 2024-25 NBA season underway. The Klay Thompson press conference provided some insight on Klay’s exit from the Golden State Warriors, and what he’s most excited for when he moves to Dallas. Luka is the most complete player in the NBA. Luka just needs to learn to pace himself and avoid getting injured, so he is at near 100% in the play offs.
He's getting his much needed rest now. Hopefully he gets slightly skinny and agile this offseason. Note that I'm not saying he's out of shape, just saying he could be more
He gotta give a little more effort on D at times, but with that like you said he needs better pacing. And maybe better conditioning. But also and maybe more important than anything. He gotta stop crying to the refs.

I think Luka is the best player in the world but he still needs to get some consistency on defense to go into the MJ and LJ atmosphere
People are missing that Klay rarely ever complains or taunts refs. He will help with that too with Luka.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Mavericks pick up some extra talent here and there, maybe like Kevin Love or someone else with some Finals experience, you know in case we catch lightning in a bottle and make another Finals run that veteran leadership would be big

The Key is going to be Pj Washington's willingness to pass and screen for klay.
Klay is soo good with his pump fake when Pj gets the ball klay might not seem open but a pass with a screen will become deadly
Luka is not the best player just yet he is close. His shot selection and volume lose them games even though he wins them more games then he loses.
If Luka shot less especially the step back 3 and turnaround jumper except the games he is hot the mavs would probably win 5-10 more games
Luka is going to be on a team where he is the 3rd best 3 point shooter. 2nd best ball handler, 3rd most efficient, 3rd best free-throw shooter, 2nd best mid range shooter, highest turnovers, highest shot attempts, Best Playmaker, Best at drawing fouls, 2nd best tough shot maker, best floor general, worst defender, laziest on defense, and most missed shots. IMO for him to be the best he would need to optimize what he is best at, do less of what he is bad at, and allow the guys who are better at things to have a bigger role then they have.
Ex) Luka shot 11 3s a game, kyrie shot 7- Luka should aim to shoot the same amount as Kyrie by letting Kyrie take more or giving up 3 between 4 role players
Luka turns over the ball in faster pace- allow kyrie to handle the ball more. Because those turnover turn into fast breaks
Luka shot 25 times a game- this isn't Kobe lakers in 06 where you had kwame brown. Since he already has the ball the most for playmaking. shooting over 20 a game is kind of crazy- Curry/Bron/Kd dont shoot 20+ a game and they are all more efficient than Luka.
Jordan did shoot that much in his prime- but key difference MJ was not also Point guard incharge of getting the ball to others ( ball dominance) also Mj did not shoot alot of 3s (missed Long 3s turn into fast breaks) where most of Lukas misses are from 3.
overall it seems like hypercritical but this is what he needs to do from top 5 to number 1
Giannis or Joker doesn't make the players around him better but Luka does

Klay is good to be a 3rd option, 2017 2018 with kd steph klay is the 3rd option, i think if Dallas can replicate this Dallas is hard ti beat next season with Luka kyrie and klay you can't left him wide open
I see alot of frustration timeouts after Klay drops 3 triples in a row. Opposing coach's will storm the court shouting at their defense.
