I'm a season ticket holder for the Warriors I am saying this not because I'm flexing, I just want to point out I have watched Klay play all his games. Klay is still a good defender no longer a great perimeter defender but good enough to defend the other team's forwards. He is no longer just a two guard he played mostly small forward for the Warriors. The Mav fans should expect him to hold his own defensively he is not a traffic cone as some casuals think.
Appreciate your perspective (Mavs fan here). I watched a good 7 or 8 warriors games and I was confused by people saying he’s washed on defense still looks like a plus defender to me. Also, the media is going to die on the hill of “The Mavs don’t play defense” in spite of all the facts 😂

Thank you I was wondering if he was still a good defender I knew he wasn’t as good as he was pre injury but all these casuals are acting like he’s an absolute liability on Defense.

@@carlosacosta1290 Coaches say that playing defense is 50% effort well Klay has not lost the effort plus he was the best two-way player in the world according to Coach K when he coached Klay in the 2016 Olympic team in Rio. He may have lost some athleticism but he has not lost the expertise and experience on how to defend he will know how to funnel guys to Gaffert or Lively.

A fresh start and a slightly different role will do wonders for Klay, not to mention he’s got a quarterback in Luka that will get to know his spots and find him wide open.
As you can see from this film. Klay's defensive numbers were skewed because the undersized Warriors had him frequently matched up with Power Forwards, Centers, and Small Forwards. He isn't his same 1st team all defensive self but he is more than average. Which by the Mavs scheme on how much their centers lock down the paint, they'll help him out there. Atleast now we have a consistent 3pt shooter in the starting lineup.

We got rid of THJr contract (18Mil last year) and got a discounted price for one of the best 3pt shooters in NBA History. As Luka would say….. AMAZINGGGGGG! 🔥🔥🔥

He might not be in his prime, but comparing him to THJ, he’s a better shooter, a better ball-handler, probably a better passer and he’s a better defender. Naji Marshall and Quentin Grimes are also nice replacements for DJJ and Green.
Glad you picked up on his passing, he’s been my favourite player for basically the whole time I’ve been into nba basketball and I can definitely say he’s an underrated playmaker. He used to run the 2nd unit in the 2nd quarter and so on, but obviously most of the time he was playing with Steph, Dray, and KD when he was there so never really had the responsibility and was better off ball anyway. His connection with TJD was amazing this past year. You certainly don’t ask him to be a primary playmaker, especially now, but if he needs to he can make some really nice reads which helps keep the defence guessing
@@huxleybennett4732 he’s an all around upgrade over THJ for less money per year. He’s a great addition for the Mavericks. He will step into that third option role nicely. I would love for him to help the Mavs win a Championship or two. His presence on the court with Luka and Kyrie will be tough for opposing defenses. I can’t wait to see them in action.

I know these are highlights but man still got something on defense, he’s not a total liability like some have been saying.
Klay hit more 3’s in this highlight than all Mavs role players combined all season. 🤣
Just need to get Kleber off this team and fill his position with Nic Batum and hopefully another athletic shooting guard/wing. We lost alot of athleticism with Green and DJJ's departures so we need to recoup that with either Omax going through or getting a project player back from a Kleber trade.
Man one can hope but I doubt they get rid of kleber

He don’t have to be nearly the man he was with warriors… all he gotta do now is shoot. And just try to stay in front of his man as much as possible on the outside without doing too much, lively and gaffard can do the rest down the paint. Idky everybody acting like his defense pure ass now.
Dallas fans are excited, but he is not the same player that he used to be, offensively and defensively.

Honestly he may not be the guy who was making all defensive teams anymore, but this narrative that he can’t play defense anymore has got to stop. Half of these highlights are defensive. These are from last season. He’s gonna be just fine. Does he need to guard the other teams best player all night long? Obviously not. But he’s still a very capable defender. People don’t realize a lot about defense is having a smart basketball mind. I can assure Klay is a very high iq player.
