    To make it clear, this list is comprised of cars that I have driven enough to evaluate! Which is why there are no Porsches here or several other notable driver’s cars. Thank you for giving me some solid recommendations for other cars to add to the list😎 Some of them will be reviewed this year...

      Any thoughts on testing Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing (or the CT5)?
      I love my Mazda 3. But want something more engaging to drive. I like small cars (and price tags) so was considering Miata or GR86 but also like the idea of sporting passengers. The smaller ct4 or m2 are considerations. But the ct5 for size plus v8 & highly regarded transmission are so enticing.

      @@Shay-eo5kp If you can afford one, then go for the Miata. At least in Germany it is the more reasonable choice. Insurance is less than half of the GR, it consumes average two liters per 100km less and it accepts lower octane (cheaper) fuel. It feels more agile due to the weight difference of nearly 200kg and encourages you to play more. I have to admit that I compare a OEM+ ND (compliant coilovers optimized for country roads, braided brake lines, lighter and one inch smaller diameter wheels, sticky tires, front and rear strut brace, undercarriage bracing, lowered Recaro driver seat) with a stock GR86

    Agreed on the Miata. However, with (also) 6'3" but with no longer a lean, mean, fighting machine physique (age is unforgiving), Miata feels cramped inside, though not as bad as the Toyobaru. Miata also has the nicest personality (as in the old Honda scooter advertisements, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda"). In other words, you do not come off as a douche, like the stupidly loud Mustang Dark Horse, or as a boy racer, like some of the earlier ones in your series. Miata is a grown up fun.

      The GR86/BRZ have far more room inside than the Miata. I'm also 6'3" but this is not a matter of subjective opinion the 86 has more room in every dimension and this is the main reason I'm going to buy one over the Miata. I can fit in the Miata but it's so tight that I feel I'd tire of it quickly. I hope the next gen has a smidge more room for larger people.

      The toyobaru is roomier than the miata by far my dude. I love both cars, I’m only 6ft but at the time of purchase I was way too heavy (250lbs). I wanted the ND so bad, but I just didn’t fit well (I owned a NA miata back in the day, with gas pedal mod and foamectomy, and loved it!!) I bought a 2019 miata new a little over 5 years ago, put 66k+ miles on it and it was a blast. The manual in it is simply wonderful as is the handling. Sure, a higher end camry will beat it 0-60, but it corners like a dream. Life happens though, and so I find myself in need of back seats. I picked up a 2024 WRX limited a few days ago, the manual transmission isn't nearly as good. Feels like a rubber band by comperison, though it does work well. Can't say if it's any quicker due to still breaking it in, but it seems like it's probably quicker at highway speeds while being slower off the line due to turbo lag.

    would've loved to see how the manual mazda3 would compare to these in terms of fun (not speed). not as fast as many of these but the gearbox and handling is still great and it still has great low end torque compared to most other NA cars so it still takes off pretty well.

      I actually almost included that in the list, along with the Jetta GLI and a couple of others, but I was trying to keep the list from getting too exhaustive. It would be right there with the WRX, maybe one ahead with the manual because of how nice that transmission is! The engine and suspension hold it back for me. If mazda made a mazdaspeed3 with the new car, the potential would be huge.

    I have had many cars that are faster, louder and more expensive than my ND2 RF Miata but it is the most fun of the bunch. I love my RF but am seriously considering an ND3 soft top. I used to be a sport bike rider and the Miata makes me feel like those did except it is a lot more comfortable and certainly safer. It helps to drive it defensively just as you would a motorcycle as other drivers may not be calibrated to see tiny cars. It helps that I am 5’7” and 145lbs.

    I owned a WRX. Shifting was always a bit of a chore. It was a great utilitarian vehicle capable of some fun with a side of practicality but it wasn’t a joy to drive unless it was destroying snow on back roads.
    I bought a BRZ that I owned for 6 months. I debated the BRZ and the ND2 Miata before opting for a fixed roof. I soon realized I had made a mistake. It was fun on back roads but it requires so much effort to enjoy. And by that I mean if I wasn’t at the car’s limit I was simply in a slow car. In daily driving it was uninspiring….
    …so I bought a Type R (FK8) instead. Nothing beats that manual transmission or the feel of that car. It’s still very much a FWD car though and despite Honda’s best efforts, the biggest drawback is still the FWD shortcomings you simply cannot avoid. But I loved my FK8 so much I bought an FL5 a few years later. It improves on the FK8 in nearly every way and is in my garage today. I love it. You should get behind the wheel of one. But…
    …after buying the BRZ and selling it shortly after I decided to get an ND2 Miata. And it’s wonderful! My favorite car. It’s a true two seater, no bogus back seat, and you can drop the top. I wished I bought it sooner. Even now, with an FL5 in my garage next to it, I choose the ND2 9 times out of 10. The Type R has been relegated to cold days and in 5 months of ownership, only has 600 miles on it because I’d rather drive the Miata.
    The Miata is an experience. It has one of the best transmissions in an affordable car in production today, second only to the Type R. And people love it! I get enthusiastic waves from everyone. Mustangs, big pickups, motorcycles, pedestrians, and more recently a shirtless dude on a riding lawn mower. Everyone goes out of their way to wave and smile at you when you’re in the Miata…it’s almost creepy.

    • @BB-wz6bx
      @BB-wz6bx 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So somehow the even slower MX-5 is suddenly going to be faster than the BRZ when not driven at the limit? And how is the bodyrolling Miata more inspiring? Sounds like you just needed something without a roof.

    • @mrnrfan182
      @mrnrfan182 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@BB-wz6bx and it sounds like you’d rather have a car that can’t turn right without losing oil pressure…or did the new FRS / GR86 fix that yet?
      I never said the MX-5 was faster. I said it was an experience. I also said if I wanted a car with a fixed roof and back seats I’d buy something faster.
      Simple fact is the lightweight feel, true roadster Miata is the most FUN. Is this not what the video was about? Not about speed. And the sense of speed in a lightweight roadster is more pronounced than it is in a bigger, heavier, fixed roof coupe. Body roll and all.
      I owned a BRZ, as stated. It was a mistake. I’m not making excuses for it. I chose it over the Miata and regretted it. There’s a reason people love the Miata and it’s not for its speed.

    I can see the Mazda being the most fun on a lot of levels but as a rider in these cars with fast drivers, and maybe this doesnt directly translate, at multiple autocrosses the GR86 seemed more fun at the limit to be in. Ride alongs with guys competing for best time in their class of many. However as i am aware when not at the edge the GR86 comes across as more slightly more mundane (more like a normal commuter) but i find this distinction a interesting one, since after being lucky enough to experience both driven very well multiple times it still leaves me wondering.
    Up until 9/10ths and importantly most our time is spent well below that the Miata makes more sense but at least with what i experienced the GR86 is way more exciting, enthralling at 10/10th.

    '19 X3 M40i - auto
    Ive touched most bases and I can tell you each has a unique fun factor. INCLUDING the corona 😂. If I would pick any as my go to, it would be the Golf R, hands down. People call them boring, but that all depends how and where you are driving it. Take it on a windy up and down road where you can actually experience the 4motion working, very few vehicles beat that sense of excitement. And Ive been flat out in the country side with a top spec 86, Dc2 integra whatever. Its what you make it. And I find people who cant get excitement from a Golf R maybe just arent driving it how its designed to be, or really ever get (anywhere near) close to the limit.

      I've owned both a Base 718 and a NA, NB and ND Miata. Comparing the 718 and the ND, I'd say the 718 is more fun, but perhaps not by much. The mid engine chassis and power make it a blast when you are ripping up curvy roads. You can feel the extra weight though, it does not have that incredible nimbleness of the ND, the ND also has the most sensational turn in I've experienced, probably due to the weight. If budget is no option I'd go for the Porsche but honestly given the value proposition of the ND it probably makes more sense for most people. Most of the fun for a lot less money.
