Definitely looking forward to seeing this one unfold! I like your idea of making a hole in the wire threads and looping the splice through it - I'd never thought of that and always either used a wire splice (which is an ugly and often hit and miss solution, but it's fast) - or stripped the wire like you but just wound the splice wire around the stripped section - this was a great tip!
Definitely pumped for the au turbo build ive actually got an au project in need of a radiator i live in the brisbane area if the radiator is still available
You know what I'm most excited about with this build? Sean takes great pride in his work so I know it's gonna be done properly. So many builds on youtube of people doing dodgy "budget turbo builds" I know the intech can handle a fair bit of boost but the point of turboing these car to me is not to see how much boost you can cram into them before they explode. Very excited to see this series!
Don't want to rain on your parade but Uncle Rodney could be knocking. In saying this, I think it's excellent how you go about these projects as well as filming and editing and earning a living. Well done Sean.
this new series of yours has come at the perfect time for me as im stumped on how im going to go about turboing my AU especially reguarding ECU setups. haltech definatly seems to be the safest way to do it with the least screwing around. i will be watching intently. TYSM SEAN!
mate what a brave move! there are 2 things i don't mess with on q car and they are Brakes and Wiring! so im bringing my AU to you once i get all the parts!
I have been looking forward to this project ever since you mentioned it. I have always wondered what the AU Falcon would had been like if it was the first one to have a turbo model with the Intech engine. It will be interesting to see the end results of how this turns out. Also I still have an unused brand new alloy radiator I bought for my 2008 V6 VE commodore ute because I had the same problem is you with it not not mounting in properly. And now I also just had the end of the exhaust pipe almost completely fell of from the muffler being completely rusted out from the inside so that end easier pulled out before it got a chance to naturally fall out on the road.
Another great video Sean. I've also got a pristine AU Fairmont Ghia with the VCT engine and I'm going down a surprisingly similar route to you. I've already got the 6Boost exhaust manifold adapter sitting on the shelf along with head studs, valve springs, injectors etc. My enthusiasm copped a serious dent when the VCT solenoid started leaking and I discovered that a new replacement is not available (the local Ford dealer told me that I needed to speak to a Tickford dealer as my car apparently doesn't have a Ford engine LOL). I paid a premium for a second hand solenoid that started leaking within 10km of fitting it. Turns out there's a suitable upgrade solenoid for the Nissan SR20DET that works perfectly and has stopped the leak. Most of my other turbo parts are coming off a stock FG F6 310 as it gets upgrades to turbo/exhaust manifold, intercooler, IC piping, fuel pump and the rest. I'm hopeful that the more logical layout of the FG turbo intake/IC piping will fit without too many hassles. I love your work and I'll be watching with keen interest.
I particularly will enjoy watching this process. I've got an ED Falcon, this could be applied to it as well. Would just need some different intake plumbing, and a preemptive head gasket & head stud kit.
Turbo AU let's go! I'm psyched for this project, keen to see how this goes. I've love to turbo my VX Commodore one of these days. Also, loving the Gran Turismo 3 & GoldenEye music in the background. Keep up the good work!
Great video Sean love your work! Thank you very much for the AU wiring doc I'm undergoing a similar this with my AU and was never able to find out what wires are to be intercepted of tapped. Cheers😀
I still miss my AU falcons, had an S2 XR8 with 50,000km with heaps of work, and a S3 XR6 which was like a go-kart. Both manual. Kicking myself for selling them!
As much as I am looking forward to seeing how it goes there was a part of me going "no, don't do it!". All the best and hope things turn out as you hoped... "censor it like a naughty Japanese video"... LOL!
killer video for people to get lots of info from! for anyones future reference the patch loom already has suitable power/ground for the wideband, you dont need to wire the separate wideband power/ground
Pop the end panel off your dash above the factory ecu. heaps of room behind it that should be able to fit the haltech gear. Also glad you got something out of Bill. Been over a year now waiting and still nothing, ended up building my own harness. Can't wait for the next part in this build.
I've been waiting and looking forward to this day 😁😁 keep up the good work mate. Safe to say i will be watching this alot if i pick up a Au in the near future :)
This is awesome! I have an AU2 Fairlane Ghia with the same VCT engine, and have always wanted to do this exact type of factory style turbo conversion. Very keen to see how you get one with this.
Mate. If you want a set of side cutters I’ll drop them off to Goodna in a jiffy. I worked in auto electrics for a couple years, however you’re doing a great job. Keep up the great work. Loved that you got a bit of barrel bros music in there and 007. Keep pushing yourself and your knowledge. Fantastic stuff. I love seeing people having a go.
2:20 the Chinese radiator is a ba one, 11:12 another thing I'm doing is using the oem map wire as fuel pressure sensor and oem oxygen sensor as mac valve power and control
@@MotoringBoxTV I can dm or screen shot my excel spreadsheet if you want, it is a little bit cursed but it may be of some use to you and I'm very willing to cop some feedback and criticism 😅
Good work Sean, SOHCs love boost! If you want to remap the transmission (or disable Smartshield) using a J3 Chip to keep it alive with boost, drop us a line 👍
Love it love it I can barely hear you I’m camping in tent 🏕️ it’s raining ☔️ hard and it’s to early to run your video through my big JBL speaker the wifey will get shity but later today I’ll watch your cool video again I’m in bush near the Qld border near Warwick wrong time of year to go camping 🤣🤣🇦🇺
This was my second car. 1 owner. Perfect condition. Of course, I thrashed it not knowing I was holding history. Not making the same mistake with my FG. Will be following this project closely. I'm half way through restoring my FG.
another great idea would be using all the turbo territory intercooler and intake. might not be the first au with a wrx scoop on it but would be the first with a functional one. looking forward to how the build comes out and keep up the great videos
Nice idea, but for this one we're going down the sleeper route. Just a stock looking AU, probably won't even lower it! I mean it's not going to be crazy fast, but it may surprise a few people.
Hi Shaun, this video has got the info I need for my project. Im very interested to see how it turns out. Im making a Barra NA + T to go into my XY Wagon and I didnt know about the piggy back system you are using. Cheers, Phil.
So, it wasn't just me. The exhaust fell off my AU ute as well. Quite a surprise as I didn't hit anything on the road to cause it. Getting very hi-tech there boss. 😁😁
Oh yea been waiting with great anticipation about this project ever since it was mentioned. Want to do the same thing to my au2 forte wagon one day but made to look like ford did it like how your doing it.
That AU table top for the interior looks pretty sexy. I bet you could 3-D print those and do a modified version for BA BF and the territory and make a fortune……!!!
Love seeing this car and any of the Falcons. They’re such a scummy car and normally clapped out and rusted and abused but seeing a nice one brings back the nostalgia.
Cool project I look forward to seeing how this turns out. Something I always hear people say is the Intechs have weak connecting rods, wondering how this will play out since you don't plan on opening the engine. I'm guessing the way it's tuned would probably play a part in preserving the rods.
Very interested in this, just bought a pov pack au ute as a second car while I do some work on my bf xr6t, whilst I'm not planning to turbo it there is that option and I would like to build a drag and drive car
Probably would prefer solder at usual solder Temps. Jaycar for a Weeler controlled output solder station. Mine is now 40 years old now and tips are still available and the device is just as good from many years ago on the desk as a Techo. Good job. Jaycar is the new Dick Smith! Before it became Dick Smith Big business…
Haltech have a great resource page for the AU which helped me get my head around it all. Bill Hooton was also very helpful! (And made the loom too of course).
It's going to knock at least 3 seconds off the 0 - 100 I hope. Looks very daunting but I have faith. Hope the smartlock doesn't present as much drama as Ian Seabrook's Betty the Fairmont did.

And as someone who loves wagons, it would be really cool to see someone do this to an AU or B-series wagon one day; then it'd be the XR6 Turbo wagon Ford never made. Even as more of a Holden fan, I would honestly consider doing that myself one day 😅
Hope you're pumped for the AU Turbo project!
That'd be great in my poor ol au
would you post it to perth if i chuck u some cash for it 😂
I’ll take it mate !

Love how you've been sneaking Gran Turismo music into the background of the last few vids
I recognised the first track. Like an old Japanese citypop song.
And Goldeneye 👌
Deployment vibes returning
Goldeneye theme for the win.

Stock rods are pretty weak but yes
Very cool. Can't be a lot of folks out there putting big bucks and good quality parts into an AU Fairmont Ghia.
Not many!
Here I am with a fully forged setup and a nexus standalone in a au fairmont. Hahah, nah there's actually a fair few now!
Just a maintenance task... they were good solid cars.
There's the saloon car AU's too.
The only AU's worth more than 20 grand lol
What a glorious way to start Bathurst weekend
Library, golden gun, NO ODDJOB.
Odd job was awesome 😂
This is a great project for you Sean. By the time it's all finished, every $500 banger AU on the road will want one!
You mean $4500 banger AUs. It's not the tens anymore.
@@jamesfrench7299 Lol I forgot about COVID Tax & post-COVID tax
Haha, looked at one 2 weeks ago.
Found an au up here in fnq, has a factory spoiler on it. What am I looking at?
Mate, you have more patience than me with that wiring.
super keen to see the progression of the build, can't wait see barry chopping GTRs and lambos at the drags
Like everyone else commenting here, I'm really looking forward to this one. Factory parts and no doubt a nice job. 🎉
Loved the goldeneye music haha

Rods are stronger than pistons in these, most people gap them pretty big to save ringlands

really impressed by the heat shrinks, I'm getting one of those packs
My stock trans cooler never has never failed 24 yrs and 530k+ km
Wow- commenting as I’m watching.
Love the idea of building it as if it was in Fords vision.
Love the approach you're taking using a lot of stock parts, I think this will turn out grand 👌
It's looking good so far. The manifold adaptor might push the turbo out too close to the side of the engine bay, but we'll see.
Plenty of space, as with the oilcooler.
Will be more than a grand.
Can’t wait to see the end result
Should perform very well.

AU's are club plate compliant (depending on the year of course) in Victoria. We are truly living in the future.
Enjoying seeing some love for the AU Falcon, great base for a performance car without a huge price tag!!
this looks like it'll be fun
Yo awesome video detailing the haltech install this was super helpful!!!!

Aluminum block as a heat sink and the white electric grease between the ignitor.
Yeah I saw that. They weren't really clear if the block is all you need, or whether that needs to be mounted to metal as well. I probably will anyway.
