I'll have a drive video up soon showing you all how it sounds! What do you think of the Venom turbo-back exhaust system? Let me know in the comments below.
Looks really nice for the money. Brave doing it yourself, I'd probably just pay someone with a hoist - groveling on the ground to do a transmission service is bad enough.
Love your work…you have helped me so much on work that I have done on my BA ….just like you, I have a day job and tinker with things in the weekend and you have helped me with where some of the hidden bolts for different parts are…and some pretty good advice…keep up the great work on your BA …Cheers

Great vid. Having done this several times previously on a ba and fgx xr6t its essential you use high temp rtv or similar silicone as youll blow the press form gaskets out if you dont. Ive got the same venom mid section on my ba. Great bit of gear. Other tip is red loctite on all the flange bolts/nuts as they also work loose in time. Cheers, love the channel
A great DIY video Sean. It's easier in your garage to have 2 people to do the exhaust. That Venom system has some good welding on it & hopefully it'll do what you want it to do. Cant wait to see the next video. I went stainless on my VY Series I S Ute. When I bought it back in 2014 I didn't really take any notice of the original exhaust until one day I was pulled over by a young cop trying to make a name for himself. First he said it was too loud. My reply was that hearing is subjective & that he didn't have a decibel meter to record the loudness properly in order to pull me to the side of the road. When he checked underneath I had a muffler delete which he claimed was a problem. He let me go so I went to a local exhaust guy in my area that was known & bought a stainless system which produced the same amount of noise. A couple of weeks later, I got pulled over by the same cop & same thing again with same replies until he looked underneath. He got up & said "Have a good day." and off he went. The joys of living in a small regional town.

after working in a exhaust shop, 2 grades of staino.. 304 an 409, will actually produce a difference resonance from the way the sound vibrates down the pipes. **thickness plays a part too** Xforce (im glad you didnt bother) is a much cheaper brand, an made of less quality (i dont exactly know) an alot of exhaust shops have had fitment issues. venom is a good product.

Hahahaa yes doing up nuts and bolts too tight while fitting stuff can be a trap for beginners! I just dropped in a new radiator, custom build on the old rad straps and frame but did not trial fit it so after doing up 3 bolts and filling coolant went to put in the 4th and discovered the hole in the frame was just misaligned a half width of the bolt!! Normally not a problem just trim the hole a little - but of course I had filled up rad with coolant! Always trial fit! Torque last!
I agree with the sound of the stainless versus mild steel- but in Oz the weather helps. I'm in the UK and the weather + salt they have to put down eats them so stainless is the way to go. Also on 4 bangers the rasp is better in stainless as it is a higher pitch I think and you got what you got....so may as well enjoy it.

I am not sure if I'd attempt a turbo swap. I mean you don't know until you try, but I think it'd pay to get it done right since they're worth so much money
@@MotoringBoxTV when I first got under mine I grabbed one and it disintegrated, new ones can be a bit annoying to get on I used a bit of grease and a plank of wood on the lower arm to lever them on.
Nice vid! Have the same system on mine but for Fg ute, and have had the rear silencer removed, sounds great! Only annoying thing is I haven’t fixed the turbo heat shield that does rattle a little around 2000rpm. Thinking of tying a large metal zip tie around the dump pipe and through the hole on the heat shield
It's pretty tough. From memory I had it almost sideways when I first started feeding it over the diff (the muffler was touching my driver's side mud flap) and then as I started feeding it through I was able to gradually turn it around into place. It wasn't easy but it worked.
@@MotoringBoxTV I finally got it, you're right has to be at almost 90 degrees, my problem was it was hooking up on the heat shield, happened with the old one coming out too, in the end I just forced it and bent the heat shield back when it was through
@@MotoringBoxTV I wasted my money on 1000cc injectors. 1500 - 1800cc is better if you are ever going to run on e85. E85 can use 40% more fuel at fullnoise.
I noticed the dump pipe and the cat converter have a different black finish. Is that a ceramic coating to reduce radiant heat? The rest of the system further back appears to be painted, a high-temperature paint I assume. Good video, especially for backyard mechanics like many of us.
@@MotoringBoxTV Yes, ceramic coating is durable. It is an option for some extractors on the market. Makes sense too, as it reduces radiant heat by about 50%.
I am having issues getting the rear muffler off from around the diff. Seems like you need to be really high up for it to actually have enough room to remove…
Not super high. I was able to make it work by having the exhaust pointing out under the driver's side of the rear bar. Start feeding it through the gap and slowly turn the whole exhaust towards the rear of the car as you go. It's hard to explain and definitely tricky to do, but it worked.
Awesome vid mate! had the same delema when choosing what system to go with. Went with the twin 2.5" xforce one. Would be interesting to compair the 2 systems to see what the difference is...
single muffler + hotdog is my personal preference for barras, not many "kits" that come like that though, but there are some and theres always the exhaust shop custom option ofc
Hey mate did you experience any rattling and vibrating when just idling when warmed up? I got one but in stainless seems to be hitting somewhere when going over the diff bloody annoying but good system other than that.
How long it stays black remains to be seen! I'm not sure if it's technically mandrel bent or not - the pipes are deformed slightly on the bends, but to me it's MUCH less than what I've seen on typical press bent exhausts. So maybe they are?
If it's press bent, at least it's kept the cost down and they did a better job than average. I'm sure heat proof paint wasn't beyond the budget. Surely it won't fry off immediately. Didn't know stainless influenced the sound. So do rust holes! Don't some want that rasp, at least in fours?
Mine occasionally hits somewhere over the rear diff, but that's it. I have the exhaust out at the moment, and I was going to bend the hangers slightly to see if I can get it to sit slightly higher.
@@MotoringBoxTV mine seems to move a lot, I need to do something about the hangers too. The rearmost hanger closest to the exhaust tips refuses to stay put too, frustrating. I do wonder why they opted to go without hangers in the middle…
If you're game, do play around with the mounts. I hammered the mount on the middle section DOWN a bit (maybe 1 - 2cm), which would make the exhaust sit higher in that area, and it seemed to help. I also noticed there's some movement in the exhaust when you have the joins loosened off, which allows some limited adjustability in the exhaust placement before you tighten everything off. It might be worth loosening everything, and then use jacks (or anything else you can find) to try and position the exhaust where you want it - and then tighten everything up.
Yeah it took some tetris'ing to get it in there. I didn't have the rear jacked up very high but I still got it through. From memory I started with the rear muffler/exhaust tip almost under the mud flap (so almost pointing sideways) and as I slowly fed the exhaust through the gap I gradually angled it around until it was facing the right way. If that makes sense... it wasn't fun.
No signs - looks fine. The middle section scrapes on my driveway so I am looking to get it modified and raised up as high as possible, apart from that no complaints!
@@MotoringBoxTV Thanks for the reply , shouldn't cost much to get the hanger modified so it sits a bit higher. I'm debating on mild steel and the stainless ,actually I've already paid for the mild steel but hasn't been sent I've got tonight to decide . I plan on keeping the car for a long time .
I'm looking at buying a g6e turbo 2010 50th anniversary edition. With 200kms. What's a fair price found one for off a family friend for 7k is this a good buy will they be worth more in the future
Hey mate its not on the video but how hard was getting the rear piece in around diff. I have mine on ramps and dont think the rear of the car is high enough to get it up and over. Your on stands so it must be possible. Ill have another crack this arvo. Lol i too ran out of time and energy last night 11 pm😴
Very tough. It's possible - you have to start with it angled towards the drivers side by maybe 45 degrees or slightly more. Then just keep trying to push it through the gap until you can't anymore, then reduce the angle a bit and try again. Keep repeating that and hopefully you'll get it! Also make sure it isn't getting caught on any of the heat shielding.
Spray the bolts with DW40 mate will make the job easier for you, otherwise the bolts are too dry and rusted that's why they snap...also to get the nut out of the socket use a flat nose screwdriver down the hole and hit it with a hammer the nut will drop out of the socket:
Take it from an old exhaust fitter.......Next time start from the back and move forward and up when dis assembling and from the front and work your way down and back when fitting. Very important particularly with turbos and studs. You will find it a much better experience mate.
I’m so glad I found your channel, I want my first car to be a xr6 ba Falcon, and watching you makes me wanna go for a turbo xr6 lmao, but sadly Ps you can’t drive with a turbo.
Depends how long you can wait really. If you drove something cheap during your P's, you'd be able to save up for an XR6T for when you hit your opens. But that's not fun, is it? 😂
@@MotoringBoxTV any time you need to do work on the drivers side of the engine, it's much easier just to move the surge tank. Also I see you must be a Majora's Mask fan.
I'm not convinced they're needed on an XR6T. I've heard an FG manifold is more efficient and helps the turbo spool earlier, but whether that bump in power and response is worth the effort... I'm not sure.

I've got venom with a middle muffler delete on my fg xr6t, took a while to get used to the volume but I'm good with it now.
I think the middle muffler usually does most of the work, so taking it out would be pretty loud!
@@MotoringBoxTV yeah, I can finally hear it 🎶 🎵
You got a clip of it? Thinking of doing the same

Same as this
I'm looking at buying a g6e turbo 2010 50th anniversary edition. With 200kms. What's a fair price found one for off a family friend for 7k is this a good buy will they be worth more in the future
7k sounds cheap, if you're happy with it snap it up. Check out listings on carsales if you wanted to see what others are going for.
Do we need a retune after exhaust installation in the turbos?
If you replace the cat convertor, yes.
@@MotoringBoxTV i already have venom cat and i will install just the rest of the exhaust after cat,,in that case I wont need a retune??
@@aram34 if it's been tuned after the cat was installed you may be okay - I can't promise though.
Also I'm not sure how tall your ramps are, but I didn't have my car jacked up crazy high.
Cheers bout to have a crack at it now and going to put my ramps on the drive way i got a bit of slope so should gain a bit more height. Cheers mate
Spray the bolts with DW40 mate will make the job easier for you, otherwise the bolts are too dry and rusted that's why they snap...also to get the nut out of the socket use a flat nose screwdriver down the hole and hit it with a hammer the nut will drop out of the socket:
I think that's what I ended up doing in the end, wasn't too hard to get it out 👍
Take it from an old exhaust fitter.......Next time start from the back and move forward and up when dis assembling and from the front and work your way down and back when fitting. Very important particularly with turbos and studs. You will find it a much better experience mate.
please tell me you installed a new dump pipe gasket?
"I installed a new dump pipe gasket"
I’m so glad I found your channel, I want my first car to be a xr6 ba Falcon, and watching you makes me wanna go for a turbo xr6 lmao, but sadly Ps you can’t drive with a turbo.
Depends how long you can wait really. If you drove something cheap during your P's, you'd be able to save up for an XR6T for when you hit your opens. But that's not fun, is it? 😂
2 years later I know, but 6 point sockets instead of the usual 12 point sockets are cheap insurance against rounding off nuts and bolts.
Yeah, the 1/4inch set I have are 6 point and it's great. Sadly the larger sets are not.
Hi; just curious if BA MK II XR6’s (non turbo) have a second o2 sensor after the stock cat
Not sure sorry. The turbo's didn't, but maybe the NA's did.
Damn that car is clean!
It's not bad really when you consider how old it is 👍
The only restricting part is the down pipe and cat the rest I don't care about, its more for sound
Those parts are definitely beefy. You will have a Barra that is going to great and last a very long time.
Unbolting the radiator surge tank and sitting it on the front of the engine would have made getting to the dump pipe bolts easier.
Perhaps, I didn't really find that it got in the way much. It was more so the brake booster, heater hoses and the firewall itself.
@@MotoringBoxTV any time you need to do work on the drivers side of the engine, it's much easier just to move the surge tank.
Also I see you must be a Majora's Mask fan.
Sean you should invest in a battery powered impact gun / rattle gun. Would make your life much easier!......and a hoist!
I actually bought one recently, it's in my O2 sensor video 👌
Beautiful exhaust but what about extractors bro.
I'm not convinced they're needed on an XR6T. I've heard an FG manifold is more efficient and helps the turbo spool earlier, but whether that bump in power and response is worth the effort... I'm not sure.
@@MotoringBoxTV it's not so much effort, it's the cost. People want quite a lot of money for FG manifolds. The benefit dosent make financial sense.
@@Flying_GC yup! So expensive and troublesome to fit. The factory BA setup spools up fast, I don't know why you'd need it to be any faster
What size spanner for O2 sensor?
May have been 16mm? Not 100% sure
You wouldn't by chance be selling your old exhaust mate?
I'm not sure yet. I would love to hang onto it incase I ever want to go back to stock, but it does take up a ton of space.
@@MotoringBoxTV I'd love the dump and cat pipe section, happy to pay postage lol. 😉
I don't think you realise how heavy they are... haha
@@MotoringBoxTV Probably not, but they're the last piece of my puzzle to turbo my BF 6spd Manual hahaha
Will we see you at all ford day seq on the 19th ?????
Thinking about it - probably wouldn't bring a car though.
@@MotoringBoxTV have to bring the mighty au
For the love of god make sure you tighten that o2 sensor bung.. Mine kept coming loose and falling out.. I ended up putting an old o2 sensor in it...
Seemed ok. I have a spare sensor if I ever need to use it.
@@MotoringBoxTV I even used Lock tight and it still wobbled off
What's that bracket for at 10:00 used for??
Just braces the dump pipe against the engine I suppose.
@@MotoringBoxTV Thanks mate, mine was missing when i bought my xr6t.
