Suilven, is it time to turn back?

- I set out to climb Suilven from Inverkirkaig. Unfortunately the wind speed was much stronger than expected. Being on my own with the dog made me nervous about continuing up onto the ridge of Suilven. Did I make the decision to turn back?

Thanks Linda, another great wee film. Gorgeous scenery, Suilven is a majestic mountain, better than many Munros. Sometimes the best call you can make is to turn back, third time lucky definitely, especially with the heather basher!
Thanks Andy, was gutted to have to turn back. Always disappointing but the right decision. 👍
Great walk and beautiful clear views 🏴
Thank you. 🙏
another awesum video Linda you and Brona make a great team always be safe on a walk never push it if your not sure love what you do thanks you as always.
Aww, thanks Andrew. She’s my favourite wee walking buddy. 🐶
Sensible experienced Lady, well done.
Thanks Ashley. 👍
Such a wonderful video. You made the right choice! You had a wonderful walk through the hills with your beautiful dog. As far as I'm
concerned it doesn't get any better than that.
Aww, thanks David. Despite the disappointment it was a great walk. 👍
Smart move Linda !
Thanks William. 👍
Excellent video 👍I’m still to do Suilven but can’t wait.
Thank you. 🙏
Good quality video and audio you canny beat it thanks for the vlog Linda Atb
Thank you. 👍
Bless you Linda. I will return to this beast.
Thank you. 🙏
👏 👏 👏 your experience climbing all the munros shines through here Linda what a very sensible decision 3rd time lucky sounds good⛰️ 🐕 👩 👌 btw i was up your final munro on Saturday there really boggy the bottom half views of the north face were stunning no guard of honour for me take care look forward to your many more adventures to come David 😁
Aww, thanks David. Yes, had my sensible head on. I need to go back & do the CMD arête (minus Brora though). Glad you got the good views of The Ben. 👍
I've turned back or taken an alternate route many a time. Great that you shared this. Regards, Barrie
Thanks Barrie. 👍
Safety First ~ I agree with. Good views Linda
Thank you James. 👍
Very wise to turn back I did it from cansip lodge a few weeks ago really long walk in it was also windy I got up as far as the gap in the wall but very windy so I was more than pleased with that enjoying your videos Linda
Thanks Kevin. It’s a fab mountain & a good excuse to go back. 👍
You are quite right, safety first. Strong winds are the worst adverse weather on a hill, really exhausting walking against , if nothing else. Great video, love Brora, what a gorgeous girl.😊
Thanks Fiona. I hate turning back, so disappointing but I made the right call. 👍
100% the right choice. Looks beautiful there though
Thank you. 👍
Good decision to turn back. I am just back from Glen Affric where I broke my leg descending Màm Sodhail, wind buffeting on the ridge and a bad decision to take a less windy lower line lead to a fall. All very serious when walking on your own! Anyway, home and safe now. Grounded for 8 weeks or so.
Oh no, speedy recovery. Yeah, glad I turned back. It’s really disappointing at the time though. 👍
Heaven on earth.
Thank you Jonathan. 🙏
Love the beautiful views. That water fall was amazing. Always a pleasure watching your videos.
Thanks Mary. 👍
Looked a great day too, but correct to take account of the strong winds, think Brora had reached the same decision to abandon the route. While you did your piece to camera about your decision, Brora is in the background digging a shelter! Hillarious(Munroist spelling may be).
Ha, ha! I noticed her digging a hole when editing the video. She does that when she’s bored! 😂
Hello Linda, I really enjoyed this video. I did Suilven about 30 years ago and it's definitely one to persist with, you'll no doubt get there one day. I don't think I've ever seen a dog wag it's tail as much as Brora! A happy dog, indeed. Thanks for taking the time to produce the videos, as a retired hill walker it's great to be on the hill virtually!
Aww, thank you so much. Yes, Brora is always super excited. She loves the hills. 👍
Great video Linda😍👍..You defo made the right decision..Camped up on the summit and bizarrely there was no wind on the summit..In the morning it was the same until we started to go down to the bealach..It was horrendous…Never been so scared in my life..We had to crouch right down..On a positive note😂..It’s such a beautiful mountain and Assynt is an a amazing area😍Enjoyed the vlog Linda..Any good camp spots at the Loch?..What a beautiful spot.
Cheers
Robert
Thanks Robert. Always a difficult decision to turn back but safer to do so. A lot of bog on the route I took. You could maybe camp on the wee beach where I had a snack. 👍
@@LindaOutdoors Thanks Linda😁👍
I did Suilven back in 2019 in horrendous weather. It started out lovely from Inverkirkaig but by the time we got to the base of Suilven the weather had changed for the worse. We did summit but probably shouldn't have. We went out by Glen Canisp, so a long day. We did it again in June this year in fabulous weather. In and back out from Glen Canisp this time which was a shorter day. Suilven is one of my favourite hills.
The Assynt weather is really changeable. It took me 3 attempts to Bag Ben More Assynt due to poor weather. I’ve now managed to do Suilven from Glencanisp & so glad I waited. 👍
Hi Linda , what’s the song you’ve got playing as you walk in ?
It’s from TH-cam studio library, TrackTribe ‘Guess I’ll never know’. 👍
Such a beautiful song and it goes with your walk so well, just found it on Spotify so thanks for introducing me to it…have a great weekend
Nothing wrong with turning back.
Done it a few times and it always makes me feel a bit of a failure. This time I knew I’d be back though. Too good a mountain not to do! 👍
I had to turn back due to persistent hungry horse flies.
Oh no, I hate them too. I have an allergy to their bites. None of them on this walk…too windy. 😂
Such bad luck.
