Suilven Hike and Wild Camp

- Hike and Summit Wild Camp on one of Scotlands most iconic mountains. Suilven is in the the Assynt area of North West Scotland near the village of Lochinver.
Suilven forms a steep-sided ridge some 2km in length. The highest point, Caisteal Liath ("Grey Castle" in Scottish Gaelic)731, lies at the northwest end of this ridge. There are two other summits: Meall Meadhonach ("Middle Round Hill") at the central point of the ridge high, whilst Meall Beag ("Little Round Hill")723m lies at the southeastern end.
We had a brilliant tour and met a lovely lady called Louise who was camping as well.

Easterly winds always bring the best weather to the West coast and Assynt. There is something about Suilven in particular, maybe spiritual.

I was searching up Suilven for a camp hopefully next week and both you and stripey’s videos popped up. Looked a cracking camp, great weather too minus the wind
Brilliant camp mate..It was windy apart from where we camped on the summit due to the shape of the mountain..10m above us it was super windy as my drone was showing win warnings..It was bizarre..

That was class Robert, we’ll worth the long hike to get up there. Assynt is so totally stunning, been up there a couple times and it’s been breathtaking. You captured the views brilliantly and the Timelapse with the setting sun was awesome, that will live in the memory for a long time.

stunning views, i'm heading up there at the weekend, not sure i'll make it to the top but its just one of those mountains you have to see, i'm hoping to get both bags to the foot of the steepy steep hehe, and maybe even have a rest day around there before trying to get up there, really want to be able to fly up one side and down the other, its quite hard to plan it by bus, might have to spend the night in ullapool,

Fantastic Robert! I did Suilven a couple of years ago as well as Stac Pollaidh and the 2 munros! It was my first time in that area and was blown away with how amazing it was! Great video and you were clearly in your element! that's what it is all about! getting out and enjoying the hills! Superb!

Amazing wee video Robert and what fantastic views! It was amazing how the wind almost went away on the summit! Amazing sunset and the clouds looked fantastic! That girls vango tent looked likes it had been broken into! Great views back to the other summit! You could tell you really enjoyed that mate! Well done! It’s a hill I can’t wait to visit. Paul

I've only ever saw Suilven from a distance many moons ago while in that area with my dad for a weekend fishing. We never did make it up there together but I'll need to get up and follow his footsteps after seeing this.
What a view all around, a tad windy looking but what views.
How long is the walk in would you say and is there plenty of camp spots on both summits?
Hi Scotsman Outdoors,It’s well worth a visit mate😁..It’s about 11km to the summit from the car park..Depending in the weight of your pack or fitness 3/4 hours ..It took us four but we were doing a lot of filming…Theres loads of camp spots on the west summit..On the east summits there are spots apparently unfortunately we didn’t go over due to the high winds…You’ll love it up there 😍
