Rally nice build. I've been to the Air Museum many times over the years and love seeing the cockpit interiors and also the engine run days. The Sea Vixen is one nice looking A/C.
The flying fist on the fins denotes 899 Squadron not 892 as you say. Also the "E" on the fin denotes HMS Eagle not Ark Royal which was denoted by the letter "R".
Hey, I see I may have gotten a bit confused, but your correct. The fist and E are for HMAS Eagle and 892 Squadron. Confusingly it was originally with 892 Squadron however it was at the end deployed in September of 1971 to 899 squadron to replace two broken aircraft on the HMS Eagle. The plan was to ship XJ490 and XJ579 from Lee-On-Solent to Tengah where the Eagle was based. They shipped it on the SS Glenfalloch, but when it arrived it was found to have corrosion and it was basically dumped in Singapore and eventually found its way to Australia. This is the history the Air Museum has on XJ490, its well worth a read :) www.qldairmuseum.au/qam-content/aircraft/sea-vixen-xj490/XJ490.htm
Nice build of an interesting aircraft. Revell Aqua is good stuff, but sadly not available in Australia. There was one hobby shop, I think it was in Albury, that used to stock them, but sadly the shop closed it's doors a few years ago. I have order any I want now from overseas. Might be an idea for that hobby shop near you to stock the Revell Aquas and Enamels, they are both good paints. Quick question; do you apply varnish over the decals?
Thanks a lot. Oh that is a real shame. Seeing as I work in a hobbystore I’ll have to have a look into the Revell paints. Sadly I have not seen it available with any of our wholesales which is a real shame I think. I actually only apply some decal adhesive over them. I know a lot of people like to though to help seal hem and also to take away any shine they have. It’s also common to gloss varnish before applying the decals to stop silvering but the decals in this kit were fantastic so I wasn’t too pressed to use varnish. Hope that helps😁👍🏻
@@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits Yeah, the usual wholesalers for the hobby trade in Aus don't carry the Aqua paint, same as the Tamiya 23ml bottles that I also have to order from overseas. Some shops do their own orders direct with companies and other wholesalers overseas. Same thing used to happen with Model Master paints, Colourcoats enamels, Hataka, Italeri, new Humbrol acrylic and so on. The local wholesalers didn't import them, so most hobby shops didn't stock them. Not sure why they do import the Revell enamel and not the Aqua, but that's the way it goes I guess. I used to do the same as you with decals, but some of my 30 odd year old models now have flaking decals on them.

Cheers, yeah it’s a beauty and a very unique looking plane. The museums is definitely an amazing place too.
Sturdy kit , and sturdy plane I enjoyed building it
Great build! Your channel deserves more subscribers. I've always loved De Havilland's twin boom designs.
Thanks a lot😁 yeah they are very iconic and beautiful designs. May eventually do a Sea Venom or Vampire in the future😁👍🏻
@@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits Airfix do a lovely Vampire in 1/48th scale
Sea Vixen is one of the most beautiful , graceful looking planes ever built
So I’ve heard, sadly out of production and hard to get in Australia🥺
It most certainly is a beautiful aircraft.😁
Nice. Very nice!
Thanks very much👍🏻😁

Very nice. I was a photographer on Hms Eagle and part of my job was filmiing the take offs and landings.

Only one complaint slow the film speed down a bit ! Its hard on 68 year old eyes , excellent build thought .
Thanks, yeah it is a little fast, always looking to improve my videos though so thanks😁👍🏻
Click on settings then playback speed. You can set it at 0 .75, 0.5 or 0 .25. Sound is a bit weird though especially at the lower speeds. Good luck.
