Great painting job. Excellent.
Thank you very much, I think this video may be due for an update though haha!
Looks fantastic! You put a lot of work into this Wildcat and it shows! These Hobby Boss kits look like a lot of fun. See ya next time.
Thanks again mate! Yeah spent 30 mins gluing and sanding and 5 hours weathering and painting! Definitely is something easy and fun to mess around with in between German stuff! See you on the next one😁👍🏻
How did you use the tamiya flat clear spray can, other than that great build looks great
Cheers mate! Yeah but annoying with the Tamiya can, it’s hard to see in the video but I held it about 30-40cm away and tried to make it 45 degrees and then pressed the spray just light enough to get a steady flow, I did 3 coats that way. Perhaps I was too far/too light and only misted the model hence the speckled effect?🤔
Try Army painter anti shine spray can I find that's the best
Oh okay, I shall see if it’s available in Australia👍🏻
It looks fantastic... I have the Academy one I'm going to do it in the UK camo paint scheme 👍
Thanks so much Alan! Oh nice in the FAA scheme… I saw the Airfix kit and was tempted to do it, looking forward to seeing your Academy kit!
Nice job. I'm looking forward to the next one!
Thanks mate, I’m looking forward to sharing the next one😁👍🏻
Great build,and results
Cheers mate, thanks for the view!
@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits must have changed their decal printing process....while i have not built every hobby boss kit i have built a few of them and all of the ones i have built ALL had awful decals...would break and tear if you so much as looked at them.....just as bad as the misterkraft/Misterkit decals.....glad to hear these decals worked out well.👍👍👍👍👍
Ah man sound like an unpleasant experience! Yeah Mistercraft decals are the worst I’ve ever had the displeasure of using! I guess Hobby boss must have improved then, these ones were pretty good. I’ve got a few more Hobby Boss kits so hopefully they have improved all of their range! Thanks for watching mate😁👍🏻
@@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits most welcome....👍👍👍
How did you find the decals?
Pretty good, they did have a tendency to fold up, otherwise though detail is good, they didn’t tear and they are not too thick👍🏻😁
i know the video is old but i have to say for you're future bf109 builds leave the seem alone on the top back of the plane the reals ones have that seem keep up the good work
Nicley picked up! For future planes I might try and still sand it flat to get rid of the raised flash and then do a subtle score for the centre seemline. Thanks for the tip and for watching👍🏻😁
Lovely model - build several of these as a lad
They sure are nice little kits! Bet they have good memories with them :)
Great memories - building them and wargaming with them too - more innocent days for sure. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane pal.
@@neilbedford5082 No worries!
I built the ancient Airfix kit. You know, no cockpit detail, full of rivets. The new kit just has the same parts, they just retooled the fuselage so it now has recessed panel lines. Good kit for a beginner if you can find it at a good price.
Nice! Well there you go, it could be that they upgraded the old tools...It does build well and is definitely beginner friendly but I think for what it is the price is far to high! Especially compared to other 109s. Thanks for watching.
Academy did a BF109G-14 in a white winter Erich Hartmann scheme, dated 2001. The kit goes together very nicely and has a large sheet of quality decals as usual from academy. 👍
I know the one, I did one of Academy’s G-14s a long time ago! It was a nice little kit to do, thoguh I think the AZ one is a step above in terms of detail. Hopefully it builds as well as the Academy one😄
@@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits I am yet to do an AZ model kit but I will definitely be doing some of their various BF109 kits. I especially like the look of the BF109E "foreign service" Japanese variant and E1 legion condor!
Thanks to you both for discussing the Academy 1/72 Bf109-G14. I'm contemplating getting one I've seen retailed locally (from Fighterworld Museum, RAAF Williamtown), but I wouldn't mind an AZ G14AS in the future as well to show the differences- especially if the kit has spare fuselage parts and other spares: I've long been wanting to model a "damaged donor airframe cannibalised for parts" like you see in 1945 post-surrender occupation photos of airfields in Germany and (especially) Japan, so these bits could be just the ticket if they're included.
@@captaincool3329 Yes the addition of spare parts in the AZ kits, especially the fuselage halves, are really nice! A rarity from today'a kit manufacturers. 🥲 Another reason why I have to get me some of these for the stash! 😃
@@benmanning4340 That’s the other great thing all the variety! I think they do a brilliant job representing all the 109 variations and schemes, they really got around a fair bit since there was so many of them!😆
Very helpful. I have had a certain terror of AZ Model kits in case they were real limited run nasties. They look similar to MPM, whose kits were perfectly acceptable and often covered subjects none of the major players were covering. Have you encountered any particular hassles with the AZ Messy Schmidts, or others from AZ?
Glad to be of help! They definitely are not limited kits, they seem to spend the time and get the, right and have clean moulds unlike some other companies! I have built two 109s of theirs previously and apart from a subtle fit issue with the E model and a lack of guide pins on some parts (which can be fixed with a bit of putty and sanding) they build really well. I’ve also built one of their Spitfires and did a video on it if you want to check that one out, although I filmed it a while ago so quality is not as good! Thanks for watching😁👍🏻
I’m so proud to have been apart of this and I hope for more to come from the amazing talent of Luca Sprues
Drew you are an absolute legend to work with and can’t wait to do more projects together!
Good review, propertly the best cockpit in scale, although the price is higher, it saved effort to deal with PE or resin cockpit. I will definiately get a K-4 or G-10 in future.
Cheers. Yeah that’s definitely true, and when it’s got the seatbelts included as decals it’s pretty neat! K is definitely a variant I will do eventually as well👍🏻
Very nice reviews. Agree with you that these two are best ones so far. Take care see ya next video!
Thanks mate, glad you agree! See you on the next one mate👍🏻😁
I build both kits. Friedrich version build more than one. Its very good quality vs. price. On G-14/AS is little problem with cockpit floor fitting, but its not too bad. Very recommended.
How do you get the landing gear up and down
I actually edit out the landing gear for all the flying sequences by cropping them out and painting or blurring over the undercarriage doors. Thanks for watching!
@@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits cool nice idea
@@Mrnobodys-models Cheers :)
Is there a decal for the instrument panel in the Az model one?
Annoyingly no there isn’t a decal for the AZ panel, although the part for it has a lot of raised details which are easier to paint on as you can see in my build on the AZ kit. Thanks for watching😁👍🏻
Not a criticism at all, as I like your work but why no airbrush?
Not at all, though I always try and welcome a bit of criticism! It sort of comes down to work space mainly. At the moment my hobby bench is pretty small so I cant really fit an airbrush, compressor and spray booth on it easily, especially since its also in my bedroom! I also dont feel like spending money on all the extra thinners to clean it all up regularly, not that its as big an issue. I guess I'm also quite happy brush painting, but one day I will definitely give air brushing a jolly good go ;) Thanks for watching as always mate!
Well built, sir and I like the music. I have built several of this maker's truck kits (including this one) and they all require a fair bit of patience and a little luck to get everything sitting square and level. Still, they are the only option for a few vehicles in this scale so bless them.
Thankyou very much. Yeah I got luck this one went together pretty well. They do some pretty rare but detailed kits old Ace, but your right, the clean-up is a nightmare with them and sometimes the parts look better in the instructions haha.
I bought the Beaufort kit way back, when I was in Darwin, took a look inside the box and closed it again for about 15 years before I summoned up my courage, prayed to the great God of Putty and took it on. As you found, it does build if you are patient and a bit lucky. I can't say it is a kit I would place at the front of the collection but as you note, nice to have a kit of an Oz version of the plane and back then it was all I could find in 1/72 of the Beaufort. Thanks for the video.
Good on you for giving it a go! Its all together now, but I'm faced with fixing up the panel lines which is a tedious job as I am sure you know haha! Thanks for watching mate :)
Have you ever built one of the Fine Molds kits?
I have not, although I would like to. Unfortunately they are rather rare in Australia and normally cost around $45 AUD! Thanks for watching👍🏻😁
@@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits They are around that price here but I got mine from HLJ.
The best Me163 kit I have built to date is the 1/48 Italeri one from 1984. Brilliant kit - builds up lovely considering it's age and an interesting set of paint schemes included - the bright red prototype test flight model or a captured 1945 French air force theme. A nice size dispalyable model being 1/48 as well - mine's hanging from the ceiling with the rest of my luftwaffe builds 👍
Oh nice, I had no idea Italeri had ever done one in 48 scale, I stick to 72 personally but sounds like a good kit! Thanks for watching mate😁👍🏻
Fantastic job...I luv this kit 👍
Thanks a lot Alan, it’s a good one!😁
Schòn das du mit dem Pinsel arbeitest cool
Vielen Dank, ich freue mich, dass dir meine Pinselarbeit und das Video gefallen!
the airfix version of the 163 is a kit I managed to miss during my 70's modelling days, and I always wondered what this kit was like, judging from your video its a great little model, and one to keep an eye out for, and if anyone from airfix is watching this, heres your next vintage classic!
Ah darn, yeah I was very lucky to get given this one! Definitely recommend it, basic but easy and fun which is always nice. Hopefully Airfix release it again😁🤞🏻
What a cool surprise! Wasn't expecting a build of a Me 163. Nice build and camouflage! I really like the historical pictures and videos you provide in your videos. See ya next and take care!
Cheers mate! Yes I snuck it in, I’ll have to get around to the ones I have inbox reviews on…Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it👍🏻😁
I LOVE THIS AIRCRAFT
Thanks. It’s definitely an iconic and fascinating one!
YESSSSS
🤝🎥👍
Great!
Thanks!
No swastika?
Afraid not. So far AZ Models and Tamiya are the only modern brands I’ve seen that includes the swastika with their 109. Controversially I always leave mine off, just because I don’t want to upset TH-cam too much, and it’s definitely not my favourite symbol ether… Take care
@@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits Then why make Nazi aircraft though?I really think not to apply the correct markings to any aircraft is kind of dumb. Its a historical symbol,it doesnt mean youre a nazi sympathiser does it?Or then just avoid Luftwaffe planes..
I dont like 1/72.I much prefer 1/32.
That’s fair. I rarely build anything bigger than 1/72 because I like to have everything the same size from tanks and fighters to big bombers. That and it’s a bit easier to keep 1:72 once their built😂
Nice video I recently started modeling and I brush paint these techniques should help me
Thanks a lot, best of luck getting into it and I am glad to be of help :)
A little unfair to be comparing an almost 30 year old kit with the relatively recent Tamiya 109G. You also need to remember that when the Revell 1/72 series of WW2 fighters (Spitfire Vb, Hurricane IIc, Bf-109, Me-262, FW-190, etc) were released during the 1990s, they were widely lauded as a huge step forward in that scale and fabulous value for the modelling dollar... they could be bought for around AUD10.00 back then.
I think you’re definitely right, this kit would’ve been amazing 30 years ago, thoguh Revells 1:72 Mustang is not getting away with it! I’m more looking at it from the perspective of getting it now, and I’d never say it’s a bad kit. It’s just the tooling has not been maintained and as a result there is a ton of flash and imperfections, and now it’s $25 not $10😢. The Italeri and Academy kits all came out 30 years ago as well and thoguh they don’t have quite as much detail in some spots they are a heck of a lot better moulded. Still excited to build it and see how it goes thoguh. Thanks for watching and sharing your views😁
I HAVE THIS KIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it’s just FINE !!!!!!! A good model builder would make it WORK…… It could make a great DIORAMA………. A good MODEL BUILDER would make it POP !!!!!!!!!! CHRIS 🇺🇸
Nice! Good luck with yours, we may have to compare notes when we are both done😆 Take care Chris! -Luca
I've always liked this kit. It's not spot on great but it can be used as a good base for a few easy improvements.
That’s it I recon! Thanks for watching. 👍🏻😁
The “seam line” on the exhaust should be there. It represents a weld line👍
Ah there we go. I shall double check my references and maybe not sand it off😄 Cheers for watching.
I'm sure you'll turn this Revell kit into a nice model. See ya later!
Cheers mate, see how it goes😆🤞🏻
Hello from Austria Thanks for the Reviw Its a very poor Kit here its cost 7 or 9 Euro here and is good for Model Beginners You have a lot more Kits in 1/72 Scale here so this Kit its not real bad Greetings
Greetings from Australia, thanks for watching. I think if I was a beginner I would go for a decent Airfix kit or even more simple a Hobby Boss easy assembly kit. This kit is going to need a lot of cleaning up! Take care😁
Honestly shocked that it wasn’t that bad, I tend to avoid those revell blue box kits.
Yeah I have to agree with you on that. I’m so glad I never got tricked by the P-51D box art! Thanks for watching😁
Fantástico kit!
I like the Tamiya 1/72 kits but many, like this, strike me as adding little to what other companies are already doing well; there is no shortage of really good 1/72 kits of the Me109-G6. Now if this was the K or G12, or even the G14 it might be a different story. Fairly dull selection of decals for this - covered in other kits. Isn't it nice that Airfix are doing great things for the first time in about 50 years? Nice review - thanks.
I have to agree with you there. Maybe if there was some photo etch and 6 unique schemes like with Eduardo profits kts it would be more worth it. We need more kits of the K series. So far I’ve only heard of 2 other brands that do one and one of those brands is awful😬 The Airfix G series I don’t like. $30 and the plane has no cockpit and only basic details. Yeah the schemes in that kit were awesome but not worth it overall I felt. Still let’s see what the F model is like. Thanks for watching😁
I also made that exact kit, and i have to say, you might have even gotten a bit lucky with the tooling, mine was a nightmare to fix , i was missing pieces on the wing and stabilizer XD. Probably the worse tooling i've ever encountered, but a nice model regardless if you know your way around putty (and very cheap, around 9 euros on amazon so i cant complain too much)
Oh man that sounds like it was awful, guess I did get really lucky. If mine was missing bits I would’ve had some nasty things to say haha! I suppose you get what you pay for is pretty accurate in that case. Thanks for watching mate👍🏻😁
Nice video Review, but the plastic kit is really terrable ,a specially I do not like canopy it is poor detailed, hard to understand where masking tape must be. Good luck with it !😅
Thanks mate. Yeah it’s gonna be a bit of a battle to build I recon, I better stop putting it off! Take care😁
Tamiya decals do look thick on the sheet but it mainly the glue behind them that makes them look thick, use hot water and they go on really well and will be quite thin once dried, wait at least 24 hours before considering any decal solutions .
These may be different but I had a bit of trouble with decals for a Tamiya Mosquito in the past. I’ll take your advice and make sure I use hot water and give 24 hours for the decal solution and see how it goes. Thanks for watching👍🏻😁
Is this a review for blind modellers?
Well not intentionally, but some people who watch my videos may be blind 😅
Revells moulds really need to be maintained a bit better. That amount of flash and soft detail is worrying. I think you may find as you build it there will be some subtle warping of the parts or miss alignment.
