Riding the first ever mountain bike trail in the world

Andy and I set off on a three part trip to Snowdonia in Wales. The first day we start at Coed Y Brenin trail centre to get our heads back into mountain biking and to get stuck into the technique of welsh rock. For myself this was a huge eye opener and really helped my riding get back up to scratch before the crazy adventures we had coming up in the next few days. We ride the Beast Trail which is a welsh black and then on to Tarw Du which is the UKs and probably the worlds, first ever purpose built mountain bike trail, which we all owe so much to for the progression of our sport. It is a crazy rocky technical trail, and one everybody should ride!
We finish off this day with the start of part 2, bikepacking up Cadair Idris, which is a stunning day out, make sure you tune in for part two!
You can tell us Scots are craving better weather, longer days, and short-sleeves! Post Sunday morning Zwift, sitting with a cuppa and watching this. Thank you.
You can put your short sleeves on indoors? Haha, Yes winter is a tough time to get out. But my hibernation a little does help edit some more films ;-) and also planning time for the years adventures
@@barrygodin7538 indeed, Zwifting is conditioning to help that transition from a hot sweaty mess indoors, to a hot sweaty mess outdoors. Agreed on hibernation, also a good time to research a new bike.
Coed-y-brenin. Britain’s first trail centre. If it wasn’t for Sian Lloyd and Dafyd Davis mtb visitor centres wouldn’t have happened as soon. My first trip there was in summer 1999. It was the most extreme riding I’d encountered thus far. I also went to the opening of the MBR trail in 2000. Been a fair few times since. Sadly, Sian and Dafyd were king of forced out and their original visitor centre is gone and the new centre is the other side of the road. The trails are still awesome but I get a tug on the heart strings when we go there now. Sian and Dafyd are true MTB trail centre pioneers and I miss them. Great video though Barry. I like the drone work. A good % of drone footage.
Oh yes I have been riding there when it was just one side and run by them two. It is such an incredible place and the trails are sooo mental. We have been on many long weekends there, and night riding there is the best!
Thanks for the drone comment, and will admit early, the drone % in the next two films has gone completely the opposite way, far too much, but the shots you will see are sooo worth it! So you will all have to suffer haha.

Coed is hands down my favourite trail centre by far. Just awesome in its beauty, variety and terrain.
I think it is one of closest to preparing you for natural riding in the uk, they are such incredible trails!

Not quite the same as CyB but the Forestry Commision created two trails in Clocaenog Forest, North East Wales in the 80's. Before CyB was created in 96 apparently. They were mostly easier stuff but with a few gnarly down hill sections. The trails were eventually ruined by motor bike scramblers who made them unrideable but some sections remain including one hairy downhill section.
Hey, that is cool, I didn't know that, I will have to go and find that trail now, love a bit of hairy!
If you’re going to coed-y-brenin you simply must go to Cadair Idris. You love a hike-a-bike so I’d be surprised if you haven’t already…actually, on reflection, I hope I haven’t blown the destination of your next video😱. P.S. I descended Cadair Idris (peak to pub somewhere at the bottom) in 23 minutes. I wasn’t riding fast, I was flying low 🤓
