How I Mark My Bible

  • I've been underlining, highlighting and making annotations in my Bibles for over 20 years. The way I do it is simple but it works for me. Hopefully this video can help you or give you ideas. Below are the pens and pencils that I use. Here's my update 👉 • How I Mark My Bible 2
How I Study and Read the Bible 👉 • How I Read and Study t...
The ballpoint pens I use (0.7 or 0.5 work for me):
    Blue: amzn.to/2VoMcQn
    Red: amzn.to/2HkrZaH
Can't find green on Amazon right now...
The Pigma Microns 05 that I use:
    amzn.to/2LIZwj2
The color pencils that I use:
    amzn.to/2W6ubL1
    amzn.to/2JGcrzF
    amzn.to/2Vzwy9E
    amzn.to/2VzytuS
The sharpies that I use (rarely but I do):
    amzn.to/2LIlWRe
Sometimes it's hard to decide what color to use because the same verse, or even the same sentence inside a verse may have strong connections to other themes. It gets a bit subjective and I think it's also very personal. Every person relates to God and His Word in a very unique way.
Many times I underline with my Micron pens over the initial underlining with color pencils. I may for example underline a verse with baby blue with a color pencil and then underline it a second time with a red Micron, and so forth...
So it's not always very consistent and it may vary but generally speaking I can say:
    1) I use red for everything that is directly related to the Cross of Christ or for passages that I esteem very central and important in biblical theology.
    2) I use green for faith and hope related topics.
    3) I use orange for law/morality related passages.
    4) I use yellow for theophanies or God related texts.
    5) I use violet or pink for sin and its consequences.
    6) I use purple for Satan related passages.
    7) I use blue for general passages that refer to Jesus or His Humanity.
    8) I use brown sometimes (it's rare but I do) for passages that deal with the weakness of humanity.
I make my annotations based on parallel passages in the Bible that speak to the same theme. I find my verses, or related passages, through references in the Bible, concordances, Bible commentaries, Bible software, books, and memory. I always pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance so above all I believe He inspires me with special connections in Scripture.

I love the “fearlessness” of your markings... especially when you showed your earlier ones before you got into a pattern. I so desperately want to get more into my study while I’m reading but I’m terrified I’m going to do it “wrong” so I don’t even start. Perhaps this will be the final push lol

Thank you so much for this teaching. I know it can be very subjective and it can complicate one’s attempt for clarity in God’s word. Marking one’s Bible can help to cement scripture in their minds and help to recall scripture. I have been hesitant to mark mine because I don’t want to make it confusing for me. I will pray for guidance by the Holy Spirit to find my own way of marking my Bible. You have given an excellent jumping off point for me. I am truly grateful. Thanks again. God bless 🙏✝️😊💕💕

Yes, definitely! Like I mention in the video at a certain point I used only 3 colors... Seems impossible for me now, but it worked for a couple of years. Since I recorded this video I actually dropped the purple and I'm not using it anymore, but I've also started making annotations and cross-references using all the other colors with which I highlight. It's a continual process for me :) Thank you so much for watching and commenting 👍

Great idea! Underlining with the colored pencils gives it a softer look than underling with colored microns and it kind of looks highlighted. I’ll have to give it a try! :) I don’t like florescent highlighters either. I love the colors in your bibles.

Great Video! You gave me some ideas on how I can revise my Bible marking system. I think that I'll do less highlighting and more underlining and cross referencing. I've also notice that most of your Bibles are double column. Do you think that it helps you more in your study with retention? I've been bouncing between single column and double column Bibles and I thing I my sick to mainly double column Bibles. Thanks for sharing this video. May God continue to bless your ministry!

    • @crucified4me
      @crucified4me  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi and thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! Yes, for me, double column is slightly better for memorization, underlining and cross-referencing. I don't have any scientific data to back my conclusions 😄 It just feels better somehow... Maybe because I can see the whole verse right there in a smaller area? I love single column Bibles but I never got to use one as my main Bible. God bless you and keep you close to Jesus ✝

    • @binmyrtmind
      @binmyrtmind 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I can share my solution with you. I color the first three letters of a verse in the color of verse's main subject. Then if I want to underline portions of the verse there's no interference and because I have the color of the subject such as the color Of a subject I'm looking for, I can immediately go to that verse on the page. If a verse has more than one subject I just color the next three letters such as three letters in red, then three in yellow etc. Keeps the page from becoming a confusing mess.

    • @crucified4me
      @crucified4me  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, pencils have been, for me, the safest option so far. Recently I tried "Mr. Pen Bible Safe Highlighters" but still, when you're underlining in Bibles with a thiner paper the colors are a little bit too visible for me on the back of the page... So yeah, color pencils ;) Just make sure you try some good ones since when the pencils are low quality you need to press harder to get a decent coloring out of them and that can damage the paper as well.

Sim, é a ACF RCM.

      Simbolisa: Realeza, Nobreza, Crueldade.
Interessante como o cantor Prince tem uma música chamada: Purple Rain.

How do I know which verse is about what?

The more you study/read the Bible the more you will get familiar with the main themes and passages that are related. A Concordance is useful to start and even after you become more experienced. I like to search up the text on the Bible Hub website (biblehub.com), they always give you tons of good references! I hope this helps!
I also recorded a video some time ago on how I read and study the Bible: th-cam.com/video/VDPSlcA6GDQ/w-d-xo.html
      Peace!

John 14: 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
1 John 2: 27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
Jesus is the Lamp, the Holy Spirit is the oil that makes the light shines.

I do not and will not mark in my bibles. Not a moral or biblical thing I just don’t write in any book, let alone a bible I paid $200 for.

I had this issue too. It took me years to get past that and be able to mark my bible.
I wouldn't recommend marking a $200 bible though. Get yourself an esv journaling bible specifically for that purpose. They're under $40 on amazon.
