    Great review. The Royal Netherlands Navy have used that name for centuries. The first time of its use was in war between England and the Netherlands. There is a movie called The Admiral command and conquer. Its a Dutch movie, very good and mostly accurate. 👍

      @@frednoname3714 it was in the mid 1660s the stern piece of the English ship Royal Charles is preserved and displayed in Amsterdam. The Dutch marines successfully invaded the medway and took it back as a prize. The end result of the war was uniting the Dutch republic and the Orange Royalists into what is todays democracy in the Netherlands.

    It seems to me that these ships will not be retired when the new FuAD frigates become operational, but sold - mostly to Nato allies. That happened to nearly all earlier Dutch frigates (S-class, M-class). The present improvements will keep this class relevant for several decades.

    Awesome video!!! A while ago I wrote a comment about me unsubbing due to the (in my eyes... or uh.... ears) bad audio quality of your videos. I really didn't want to, because I loved the visual quality and the effort that was clearly put in your channel. So when you recently responded to that comment telling me the audio quality had improved, obviously I gave it a go. And for sure none of the issues I had in the past bothered me anymore to the extend I couldn't enjoy it as I wanted. Instead, I re-subbed and started to enjoy all your clips as I wanted. And boy, what a treat for me as a Dutchman to even get this thorough and extensive review on the pride of our Navy. Thanks mate, well done... I am totally back on board with this channel!

    Negotiations are underway for the replacement of these frigates. But, depending on the developments of the second cold war, the 7-provinciën class may be kept in active service. During the first cold war, the Netherlands had up to 20 frigates in service.

    For another cool Dutch ship look at the Holland class ocean-going patrol vessel.
    It is very cute and has many tools to deal with pirates, smugglers and blockade runners etc, but also humanitarian services, command abilities and whatever you can do with overpowered radars and a cool gun with fancy ammunition and of course marines in fast boats and the heli.

      I think you heard it incorrect. At 3:39 it is stated the frigate can operate in an CBRN environment., Meaning: the ship can operate in an area that is contaminated with Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) warfare agents. The ship is air-tight and can filter the incoming breathable air. You can turn on the caption (subtitles) and see hat indeed the narrator is saying: CBRN.

      The Netherlands might not have signed the missile control treaty. That is a treaty the USA and Russia have signed, preventing the export and assistance in developing long range cruise missiles to other countries. Israel once approached the US government for sale of Tomahawk missiles and were denied.

      I agree, Turkey has shown itself to be a very powerful and innovative player in the defense industry, not to mention that Turkey sells military hardware at affordable prices. But sadly Turkey's government has also shown itself to be an extremely unreliable partner under Erdogan, not to mention the many direct and personal attacks by Erdogan and his peers aimed directly at the Netherlands (calling us "Nazi remnants" etc) and as such there's no chance of collaboration happening.

    I would have added about 40 feet to the the hull for additional VLS cells. Could add ASROC and additional capabilities depending on mission. Don't get me wrong, I like the ship.

    • @pieterveenders9793
      @pieterveenders9793 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, if they added another 30-40 VLS cells at the back of the ship it would have even so much more more oomphg than it already has. As is the Zeven Provinciën is already at the top of the Frigate league, thanks to its upgraded SMART-L with 2.000 km ballistic missile detection range and it's amazing APAR. But with the mentioned added VLS capability and by filling it with SM-3 and Tomahawk missiles it would make for the best floating ballistic missile shield in the world, not to mention an extremely versatile and powerful multirole destroyer. Even without it she's still a very potent frigate though, it's just a shame that bristling as she is with the best sensors of any navy, she doesn't have the missile loadout to match.

    • @MrHvleeuwen
      @MrHvleeuwen หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pieterveenders9793 its probably very simple, the sensor range covers such a big area (and is also fairly specialised) compared to the missile-range that she is supossed to share the data to other platforms that are somewhere else, say another frigate with 30-40 VLS cells 100 km away or something. That 64 AA missiles being fired constantly from her cells will be all the missiles needed to cover any realistic barrage of enemy shit that will actually be within your reach to hit due to restrictions of distances.
      So adding stuff would possibly only make her a bigger target without adding any benefits in any 'realistic' engagement. Maybe that has changed now with all the small threats with drones and such but who knows.
      Idk if I explained what I meant very well but eh. No idea why I started with 'its probably very simple' :')

    a 40-cell VLS solely for launching surface-to-air missiles only, what a waste . . . lack of a dedicated VLS for anti-ship & land attack cruise missiles is quite alarming . . .

    • @feddek9325
      @feddek9325 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Why would an air defence frigate be equipped with land attack capabilities? She is designed to escort a NATO taskforce.

    • @pieterveenders9793
      @pieterveenders9793 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a frigate, not a destroyer. The Zeven Provinciëen class has anti-ship and land attack missile capability in the form of it's Harpoon cruise missiles. And in reality she has a much larger VLS missile load out because the ESSM's are quad packed, so she carries a total of up to 64 missiles in her VLS cells (32 SM-2 and 32 ESSM). I do agree that it's a shame she wasn't turned into a destroyer by lengthening her hull another ~15 meters and giving her an additional aft VLS battery with 40 cells. After all she has all the sensors to make it one of the if not the most powerful ship of any navy.
