We have two sources of abalone in California: wild abalone in the northern waters that you dive for and cultivated abalone that comes from neighboring Baja.

live abalone is hard to find here and canned abalone is expensive, so i adapted this recipe to use dried oysters (traditional chinese ingredient). it makes a very savory porridge and is now popular in my household for when people are sick :-) thank you maangchi!

After I watched this video, I asked my husband to bring home some fresh shrimp so that I could make that variation of this dish. It turned out delicious, and will definitely be something I make often!

I've never had any kind of porridge before, but it looks so good. It looks like the kind of food that would completely warm you up on a cold day!
