This is probably the best Paint channel on youtube.
I wish youtube was around in the late 80s and into the 90s when I was painting cars.
Most of what you teach I've known for years and there is also the changes in equipment that I wished I had.
I don't paint cars anymore but I still love the trade.
I tend to do paint correction these days as a side job just to keep me in the car game.
I love making cars look their best !!
    Thanks for the videos !

So glad to read this. Back in the 90s I was still a kid hungry to learn. Keep your trade going. I applaud you!!

@@coltonbocock2586 If you have no experience, no tools, no clean space, and no equipment, I would do a lot of research and learn as much as you can, prepare, buy all the gear you need and practice before doing the car. If you can't, better to pay someone.

Brian, I want to say thank you for all the videos you have made. I'm a very beginner painter/car worker. You have helped me out so so much. Everything I know about painting vehicles I have learned from you. I just started painting my 2000 Honda civic, and I'm very happy how my vehicle has turned out. I immensely appreciate the time you take for making your videos. You explain things very very well and importance of each step. Thank you so much for what you do and I have highly recommended your channel to friends and family. Thank you so very much!

A trick that really helped me feel my highs and lows when I was new was to use a blue shop towel or paper towel in your hand when you go across the panel....made the world of difference. Awesome videos love watching

So, I do a lot of wet sanding it helps with the paper not getting clogged, as for seeing whats going on. I usually run a small stream/drip of water from the highest point of the panel down. All the dust and particles drip off the panel and usually dont cloud your vision. The paper stays pretty clean, when i dry sand usually i have to use a blow gun and blow out the paper quite a few times and creates a ton of dust around the garage that might later be introduced when spraying.

Hi Brian I have a great tip for a guide coat but first let me say the following. I enjoy doing the maintenance on my ‘08 Honda Fit but never worked on cosmetics. Thanks to your videos I got the confidence to to restore the headlights, repair dents and scratches on both bumpers and body, and even painting it.
As soon as I thought about this dry guide coat idea I did a little research and couldn’t find anything about it. I doubt I’m the only one who has thought about it but let me know if you have or heard it before. Here it is, anyone who cares about working safely ends up buying a respirator. So… when I was about to throw away the old OV cartridge I was replacing. I thought about repurposing the material inside it. I opened up the cartridge and got the activated carbon out. Then I put it in a blender to make it into dust. I got a plastic mixing cup to store the carbon dust and a small piece of foam to apply and it actually worked. Let me know if you try it and like the results.

I learned about the different grits of scuff pads and how to continue to use Guy coat in circular motion to fill in the sanding scratches to see the lows that need to be sanded down level by using a higher grit sand paper. Take your time in making sure that all is taken care of that the body work has been done right the 1st time so that if there needs to be a small fix Now is the time to fix it…not in the spray booth!
Thanks Again Brian for a well thought out video! Always looking out for the little guy!😂

Nice job prepping the panel I love Geico it’s the best thing in the world to use between coats to see where you’re at definitely you can see everything with that stuff. And showing the blocking was very well done to except for one thing that I caught you on when you put the round pads on the sticky board on the flat board you should always make sure that the ends are not overlapping or else it’s going to cut a groove in your panel when you’re crosshatching and I have to agree with you Brian on water sanding it’s great sometimes but it does make quite the mess I normally do it when I just have a hood or something of that sort a great explanation as usual great job Car looks good I truly enjoy watching you work man you’re a hard-working guy and I love the idea that you teach kids that’s so cool keep up the good work👍

Once again Brian thank you for such an awesome tutorial on paint preparation. I live on Hawaii. Here it rains a lot mixed in with sunshine and my Toyota Tundra sits outside in the elements. I understand that Toyota doesn’t use clear coats on most of there vehicles and silver paint is one of them. My goal is to repaint the silver and clear coat only the roof and hood. I hope I can apply these techniques to create a nice job. Aloha Brian.

Another great video! Thank you!! I deal with bad paint jobs on a daily basis. I just corrected and coated a Tesla Model X that had been repaired though it was previously unknown to the current owner. Sanding scratches left on the edges, clear coat peeling on the edges, textured plastic trim that was filled in and painted but looked like a brown chemical stain on the plastic. Your videos show how repairs should be done! I'm learning as much as I can so I can be a competent painter.

    Hey Brian,
first off, GREAT video buddy. From my opinion you explained well and pretty much covered the essentials.
I also liked that you pointed out that sanding by hand will always be ruffer than sanding with a machine.
I do have a few annotations:
-Point out that there should always be a smooth transition from primer to old paint, if the primer stops in the middle of a panel.
-Explain why you prepped the rear door and front corner panel.
There is some really longlasting "sanding paper" from mirka - abranet, wich in my opinion is really good for sanding by hand, and sticks to the 3m hookit systems, might want to try it out.
Though I do acknowledge not preferring wet-sanding, I think that it is just as easy to see small inperfections in the primered area. Plus if you hose it down, it'll be wet all over the workspace anyways.
keep up the awesome videos - Lukas from Hamburg ( northern Germany )

Brian, really like your work. If I could add one thing to your videos, it would be something of a total time approximation when you roll fast or fast forward. Just to help the nice people out there manage expectations and time.
