It’s not software that’s making the acceleration feel less responsive. The front motor in Range mode is disconnected via a clutch and takes 0.3s to re-engage upon heavy acceleration. Putting it in performance mode permanently engages the front motor. This is the same setup as in the Polestar 3, Volvo EX30/EX90, and Smart #1/3 to name a few. The Tesla model 3/Y by comparison don’t suffer this because they use a cheaper asynchronous motor in the front rather than a permanent magnet motor front and rear like the cars I listed above. However, Tesla’s approach of using an asynchronous motor has its downsides too (taking up more space, being less efficient, and offering less precision).
Thanks for the brilliant explanation, Martin. That makes sense. You did better than the technical information provided by Polestar! Hopefully that delay can be shrunk as the tech evolves, as the twin motor torque is addictive. / Sam
Got mine last week ! Dual motor , Electron , standard spec ‘20’ inch wheels. I really love it , so cool , gets lots of looks and even pointed at. Takes a few day to get used of the information system and rear view mirror but becomes natural after a few days.
I’m stuck between a model Y long range AWD or polestar 4 SM with pilot/plus/pro. The supercharger network and tech make me think Tesla but these look beautiful Help! 😂
@@timmanc Tesla Superchargers are available for Polestar too but I have never needed to bother. Unless you are a cab driver or similar who depends on being on the road it is not a dealbreaker. Plus, cab drivers need to eat and go the loo too, and after that your car will be ready too.
This the best lookin car on the roads. People that drive one trully know the eyes they get on them. Special in Sweden do because we all truly love Volvos and Polestar. You drive any of these car brands in Sweden and people like treat you like a king in traffic.

This is nothing like a tesla.... That being said I dislike this interior a lot, because I hate the big display it ruins the flow of the interior! And then the small cut in half DIY looking display behind the wheel also looks poor. Speedometers need their proper home!
@@uzi6839 No, not at all. At least not Model 3 since they started building them in China. Mine was perfectly built and finished, has also been completely faultless for the 2.5 years I've owned it from new.
Might drive well, have good power and range but IMO looks odd and definitely not premium in real life. Not many would be proud to have this sitting on the driveway vs German alternatives
@@karstenreker1267 the general perception in the UK is that Porsche is considered more premium than an Audi, similar to how VAG position Skoda to VW. Again the starting price of a electric Macan is around £68k, similar to a top spec polestar 4
I think you need to see one i real life. It has heads turning everywhere. Coming from Audi and opted out of an I5 for this model, I can easily say that I'll be very proud once I pick mine up in 3 weeks.

I am so jealous
Moved from Tesla Y to P*4 red. Polestar smoother ride, less road noise, hud. Altogether a nicer car.
Saw one at the dealer in Manchester yesterday, they’re stunning in person
We agree? Would you take this over a Model Y?

Trully a beast of a car and a great video! ❤
Most exciting car brand at the moment and the best design!
We love it too! What do you think of the Polestar 3?
I use glasses for reading and tried a KIA with rear view done with a screen… simply cannot see clear on that so I cannot drive with it.
WOW LOOKS AMAZING.🔥.
We agree! Do you prefer this to the Tesla Model Y?
OF COURSE.👍.
wow excellent video
use the google speech control, it works really well for most things used while driving
As handy as that is, it shouldn't be the best way to operate most (including basic) functions.

Love how British people enjoy self deprecation - great review btw
Does this not have reversing sensors ?
Yes it does
That is not true. Obsession with drag coefficiency would get 0,21 or lower. Not 0,24 and above.

2.12m wide?? A humvee is only 4cm wider!
Is that including door mirrors?
I'm shocked that you are shocked
Maybe we should have *dampened* our expectations
What on earth has happened to cars.
Stunning but lets see how that rear view camera is when its raining and covered in filth..
headed backwards, positioned on the roof, with a cap, tested in Sweden… I would not worry about that
That's a great point, Mark. We weren't able to test that on the day but we'll let you know when we've tested it out.

A bit like when a back window is wet and covered in filth?
it looks like a byd seal lmao
They’re good cars too but if I had to choose it would be polestar. Mostly because of where the brand originates from.

Which?
Maybe a Macan, or Q6-etron for 30.000€ more?
