Other petrolhead reviewers have focussed more on the handling, braking, and performance of this car and have raved over that aspect. They say that the price is actually very competitive as the car is a match for far more expensive and sporty cars like the Porsche Taycan.

You’re basically paying in weight and cash to cart around a giant battery you’ll never use. I mean who in their right mind does 600 miles (even 400 or 500) in one go without a break.
The same battery could power two decent regular sized cars and all you’d need is to improve charging speeds. So simply for that, their sheer wastefulness of it all, I don’t like it. Nice design but a pointless car.

the same argument could be made for giving a ICE car a 70 some even have 90-100 litre fuel tanks when a smaller car with 35 litre tank is smaller lighter goes a little further not having to haul around an extra 55-65 kg of fuel I would love the Mini Electric but it is impractical for other reasons (no 5 door option and a matchbox boot (200litre capacity) sure the earlier 32kwh with 28kwh usable loses its refuel advantage if you can't charge at hope and take advantage of lower unit cost for kWh instead of the 79p out in public. then a Hyundai Kona with 64kwh seems to be the happy medium for year round comfortably able to go longer trips without hopping from charger to charger

That's the thing: it's so frustrating to see ALL of these brands focusing so freaking much on expensive EVs (and cars in general). But people (granted, probably not the same people) will *brag* about their +$70k pickups and SUVs.
If they're going to spend an insane amount of money on a car, I'd at least like to see them going electric. Yes these materials and resources could be more efficiently used, but that is categorically not how capitalism works.

Mercedes, BMW, etc are luxury car brands. (They also sell vehicles that are 2 to 3 to 4x the amount of this Polestar.) They have been making cars for 100 +/- years. They are 'aspirational' brands. Don't get me wrong, I think the Mercedes EQS and EQE are hideous, inside and out, and are complete failures. The BMW iX is ugly, but I still kind of want one. Polestar is great, but they have a weird name (let's be honest) and don't have brand cache nor reputation.

@@bob808you know that polestar have been tuning cars for a long time. They were Volvos equivalent to BMW M division or AMG but more focused on STCC (Swedish touring car championship), meaning they actually made Volvos in to legit racing cars. If BMW branched of M division in to a new brand that would be polestar but without the legit racing heritage. And it’s not like Polestar hade a racing team 50-60 years ago they actually hade it with the same people still working and tuning Polestars today.
And polestar, Volvo and Zeekr have cooperation in Gothenburg cross working between the companies. They have the same engineers working on Polestar as they have on Volvo.
Polestar means northern star but could be said to be a bit of Swenglish for a native American English speaker.

Nobody bats an eye? Didn't mercedes announce that they are removing their EV platform because of low sales and Porsche Taycan prices drop like they're hot? I think people bat eyes and close wallets for these overpriced EVs that have lower quality interiors. With every passing year, compared to older versions, they are more expensive and have cheaper feeling materials. That is my experience with most EVs from German manufacturers.

If anyone buys this for "environmental" reasons then there simply a knob.
111kwh is a absolutely ridiculous amount of resources to put into a car that at best if charged from 100% solar (which it wont be ) will save roughly 2 tonnes of co2 per year.
Slice the battery into 10 which can be charged in the day by solar & you have successfully taken 10 houses of the grid & the net savings are greater than a figure of 10
This kind of greenwashing only works with people who dont see the bigger picture & dont understand that even if we can go 100% ev ( we cant ) it will make f*ck all difference as cars are a tiny percentage of the global co2 emissions but yeh look over hear at this ev not over there @ chinas 1200 coal burning power stations.
We need to burn hydrocarbons or its back to the stone ages thats a fact & we really do need to do something about it but evs wont do a thing

The EV benefit is zero tailpipe emissions at the point of use.
The 111kwh battery takes much less resources to build than sourcing and transporting the 17,000 litres of fuel which the average fuel powered car uses in it’s lifetime.

ROFL...390 plus miles for those truly long car trips.. For starters...you really usually get 80-85% of usable miles from their so called stated miles...so 310 miles if you are lucky...0-80% in 30 mins if you can get 250kw charger....(good luck with that- so really an hour or more charging to 80%) and it is obvious the description for really long trips is from someone from a UK or western Europe perspective. Try living in Australia, Canada, or USA or other large countries....and no when you travelling in those countries....( will refer to Australia, where I grew up come from just to be clear) 310 miles doesn't get you that far...and no we don't like to sit around for hours waiting to charge a car in the middle of nowhere.. Bottom line...Maybe good for Europe..but thats it as far as range goes..wish sometimes someone would acknowledge that, and also more effort was made to extend range of vehicles.....because of course EV is a good thing, but it has to be practical across multiple contexts and locations.

Disappointing from ethical, environmental and cost point of view it doesn't use LFP batteries, especially with such a big battery. Be good if car reviews talked more about battery chemistry, as LFP also improve longevity of Car, and can reduce price of the car. New electric cars should phase out the use of Cobalt containing lithium batteries, so unethical Cobalt mining using child labour in African countries happens more often. If their promoting sustainable materials in the car, NMC battery chemistry makes even less sense.
