There is heavy emphasis on Deltarune being more restrictive in choices available to the player compared to Undertale. I wonder if that's linked to the flavour text in any way.
gaster in 2016: a vague entity with undescribable abilities gaster in 2021: "lol lemme prank call some dudes across dimentions and get em in cripling debt"
Its also implied that queen had spamton dunked in the acid, and thats why hes shorter than his friends, since spamton says things like "ow it burns" and queen says something along the lines of "shrink from the acid" during the boat ride
The line 'Spamton begs the audience to stop taking furniture out of his room' Is especially chilling upon realising he went bankrupt and had the furniture removed from his house and is essentially constantly reliving the pain from that.
That's chilling. This also means that the other dialogue in the Spamton Neo fight means something about becoming bankrupt. Things like "Spamton pleads to the audience." "Spamton prays to the audience." In the Spamton Neo fight could be that he wants people to help him.
hmmm, filename is friend, a smile on a tv, asriel is coming back soon, the smile looks like omega flowey's even without the tv screen bit. photoshop flowey is able to move between universes confirmed, the final boss of deltarune is floweyX, gaster is flowey confirmed, help someone pick up the phone help what am I selling mike ineedtoknow!!!!!!
I have an interesting theory regarding Kris and Spamton. During the Spamton Neo fight, Kris has a bit of a revelation. Spamton is just a puppet, who was given everything he ever wanted by his puppeteer, before being abandoned and having his life crumble before his eyes, which was potentially the event that drove him to the depths of the insanity we find him in in Ch 2. Does that story sound like it applies to anyone else? That’s right, Kris. Kris is being used as a puppet by you, the player, but during that time, Kris meets friends, something it’s clear they’ve never really had. Even Noelle is off put by you when you meet her in chapter one, showing that their friendship is more a pity cause on Noelle’s part rather than a true friendship. With a few hours of landing in the dark world, Kris makes friends like Susie, Ralsei, Lancer, Rouxls, and more. But even more important to Kris, they become a hero. They finally have an achievement to one up their brother who they have spent their whole in his shadow. And it’s important to note Kris’s demeanor in the scenes we see them freed from our control. At the end of chapter 1, while Kris still doesn’t have very much idea of who or what you are, Kris acts overtly hostile towards you, threatening you the player with a knife. At the end of chapter two after the Spamton fight, Kris barely even considers you, instead doing everything they can to setup the dark world. Why the big change in demeanor? It’s because Kris has realized how valuable the player is to them. As long as the player continues playing the game, Kris continues to have friends and being a hero. Kris fears above all being discarded by you, because then they will end up like Spamton. Spamton is a dark reflection of a potential future in which the player stops playing the game, and Kris is terrified of becoming that. It’s even mirrored in their goals. Both want to be important. Both want to be popular. Kris realized that the only way to prevent themself becoming like Spamton is to trap you into playing the game. That’s why they opened the next dark fountain, in plain view of the camera. They want the player to need to investigate why Kris did what they did. In reality, the answer is just to get the player to do the investigating.
Maybe it’s possible that whoever abandoned Spamton (phone person) might have also made a deal with Kris (what deal, I’m not sure) before we even make a vessel (beginning of the game), and maybe that is why the player is in control of Kris. I mean, before we save for the first time in the Dark World it is shown to have previously been saved by Kris, and when you call in the Dark World you to get the same noise that was heard allegedly from Spamton’s phone. I don’t know, just a small theory I just thought of… That might also explain why Kris is uneasy about Spamton being “a puppet” and “pulled by strings,” because like you said, that’s something Kris relates to.
Maybe the deal that Spamton is trying to make is for Kris to give them the soul so they can finally be a success like Kris? Maybe Spamton used to be controlled by a soul, but in an effort to free themselves they instead destroyed it?
The idea of "Mike" being the main villain of chapter 3 is possible, since in chapter 1 jevil (a secret boss) is the only one that mentioned Queen, and now we have Spamton (another secret boss) who is the only one that mentions Mike, I'm guessing each secret boss will namedrop the villain of the next chapter to keep us hooked, just a theory though.
I think that jevils violent defeat dialogue hints at spamton too. So maybe mike is the secret boss of chapter 3? Also spamton says something about tv show hosts, and that's probably not a coincidence because chapter 3 is definitely in a tv setting. So maybe mike is a tv show host??? Just pulling at straws here
@@CaptainCoolzCT- In the genocide ending text he says "The queen arrives, and hells roar bubbles from the depths". He correctly predicted queen, and in the same sentence he defiantly makes a metaphor for the castle basement. Applying that same formula to spamton when you talk to him about "friends", if I was correct in all this theorizing, then he should predict the next chapter main villain and the next chapter secret boss. But he does it in the reverse order. He mentions mike and then television.
In the unique lines in Spamton's shop, where he speaks normally for once, "Mike..." and "Can anyone hear me...? Help..." directly reflect Spamton at the end of his NEO fight, where he asks the party to break their own strings. This presents an interesting idea that Spamton doesn't really want to be a "BIG SHOT", in the sense that he wants to make it big. That's his controller talking but... he just wants to be free. And the person on the other end of the phone, that garbage noise, gave him the epiphany that he's being controlled. The rest of the time his dialogue is plagued by lines from advertisements, forced to repeat them as a spam email puppet account. He's essentially tortured the whole time, trying his hardest to stay sane while he works to break away from his programmed mission. Just a heart on a chain...
Just thinking about the "Big Shot" commercial, and I've just realised Toby has a tendency to reference old commercials. "Get Dunked On" was originally a Snickers Commercial.
12:27. Noelle doesn't think that Kris is doing it. When Kris has no HP left, Noelle still can hear the voice, pushing her to do something she doesn't know (Snowgrave). And if you visit her and her father at the hospital after sealing the fountain in the genocide route, she keeps telling herself that it was all just a dream but she thinks the voice she heard was nothing like Kris's voice, but rather scary and real. She also mentions that no one seems to realize that Kris has changed a lot lately.
Because in chapter 1 epilogue Kris only acted just a little strange (being social). If you go Snow Mercy, in the hospital she realizes that 1 it was all real 2 the person in front of her is not her childhood friend anymore. If you finish ch 2 normally, Kris still doesn't act terribly OOC
Speaking of Noelle's dad, I wonder if he suspected something had happened, too. The Snowgrave Route is the only Route where he wants to talk to Susie all of a sudden. At first I figured it was to set up the creepy scene after, but then I realized that he noticed Noelle's change in demeanor and behavior beforehand. When Susie comes out, she tells us that he told her alot of stuff about Noelle. That could either be him trying to be Noelle's wingman and set them up together, or he could want someone close to her to look out for her. Or it could be both. Either way, it's something that seems to be overlooked alot by the fandom.
This character genuinely made me feel unsafe, he really did feel like the type of person that would just snap and try to kill you for no reason, even among all the other characters that try to kill you on sight
Its Toby's fault for putting Gaster's theme in most of the "mysterious" parts of the soundtrack, the opening cutscene of the game's narrator talking exactly like Gaster would (with letters instead of Wingdings), and the fact that it was in the same style of text on Twitter that introduced everyone to Deltarune in the first damn place; you can kinda see how some would link Gaster to *e v e r y t h i n g* in DT
Yeah I genuinely think that gaster has absolutely nothing to do with Spamton, Jevil and Rouxls although Jevil and Spamton are definitely connected I think everyone thinks gaster is a main part of the game when tobys just leaving little easter eggs for the bigger picture of gaster and everyone’s jumping to conclusions
If you want my theory I think that spamton has his own player that’s probably mike who probably isn’t gaster and the text like [this] is his player speaking and that’s why he talks a lot about “cutting strings” because he wants to be free and this is actually shown in kris too whenever he pulls his soul out that’s him basically cutting his own strings. Kris too wants to be free. only one thing shooting this theory down and it’s Jevil he has no explanation for why he’s a secret boss and the only explanation is gaster pulling his strings, it could be mike but why is spamtons player playing jevil? It makes no sense
To those who are unaware. The next 3 chapters of Deltarune (3,4,5) will all be released at the same time. For a price. Chapter 2 was supposed to be a part of this, but Toby thought everyone could use a free chapter to hold us over because these last 2 years have been brutal.
Interesting thing- in the pacifist spamton neo fight, if you have a full inventory, it shows he isn't dead, because he's pissed at you, and he goes into the storage box
He's pissed? What? From what I considered, he's grateful. He still isn't dead though- it seems to be implied that his soul is in the glasses he wears...
@@TornaitSuperBird If you fill your inventory up and use no items during the fight, when he gives you his glasses and disappears he gets mad at you for filling your inventory with junk and tells you that he'll be at his shop if you want the drops.
He literally says "you filled your inventory with [half priced salami] just to keep me out!? you can hold like 48 items!!!" Then he just leaves to the item box ig
The connection between the Wrong Number Song and Spamton makes a lot of sense, especially since both of them have to do with phones and have a short "happy theme"
Spamton introduces himself by : Hey every- It's me !! Spamton G -Spamton I'm not sure if this is EXACTLY what he's saying , but I'm sure he said : Spamton G Spamton And the wrong number call asks if they can talk to "G"
@@RoyGuyManDude I mean, that is the coolest hint to think about. What if that call accidentally went from deltarune universe to undertale's one? Well, to be correct, it should be one universe in the end, after all. I doubt Toby would put all the same characters into another story just cause he likes them, otherwise i can't describe how lame it would be. In the end, Deltarune and Undertale should be connected in some rad way The theory I liked is that this is a timeline in which Gaster wasn't erased, and from which Sans and Papyrus could possibly have gotten into undertale's one (in which monsters in Snowdin say that they just showed up there one day and that's it)
I just want to clean up the timeline here before future theories go too deep: Frisk didn't tumble down in 201X. *Chara* did. We don't know how many years passed until the main story happened.
Pretty sure Frisk was the one in 201X. Whenever Asriel was attacked by humans for carrying Chara, the humans had to have been more fearful and superstitious which was a trait from people of the Middle Ages. Meanwhile, when Asriel freed Frisk and all the monsters from the barrier. The humans obviously were accepting of the monsters cause no war happened. All the monsters just lived their best lives with no known troubles. Humans in the 201X era are much less superstitious.
Anyway Deltarune and Undertale are in différent worlds. So they don't share the same timeline. But Gaster may be spécial and travel accross dimensions or whatever so yeah.
@@echidnanation8239 I don't know about you, but I'd still be terrified if I saw some monster carrying a corpse with no context as to how it even happened.
I could agree with the “Gaster met Kris before chapter 1” theory. In the game files, there IS actually a chapter 0 image. There is also chapters 8, 9, and 10 image files. These could POSSIBLY be canon when chapters 3, 4 and 5 release.
I agree as well. I rewatched this and thought about the first thing we do when we start deltarune. We create our character and are told that our choices don’t matter, which would be a revelation that would make someone go insane IRL. Maybe Gaster could have been talking to us in that menu, and the info he gave us as the player is him also talking to kris.
I dont remember when this was, but somewhere through out chapter 2 the game refers to Kris and YOU the player being two separate people via text. When Spamton says "Do you want to be a heart on a chain your whole life?" hes basically asking Kris if they want to be free from YOU the player, suggesting that youre controlling this "being" known as Kris. Kris is the players puppet. Thats why Kris tries to rip their soul out in the end of chapter 1. Just a theory though.
Soulless Kris is controlled by Chara. You've seen her flashing eye, her knife, her dialogue, her song. Chara could physically appear and you still deny she's in the game.
@@cathulhu5470kris actually has biological red eyes if u look closely in a certain cutscene. It ain't chara possession he is just born with red eyes. Also probably took knife from the kitchen.
Fun Fact : [0:25] in one of the dialogues Spamton actually acknowledges Jevil as "That damned clown around town" [3:40] Probably meta commentary on Jevil's popularity among the Deltarune Fandom
Wait... that's true! Jevil isn't actually famous in-universe, right? He's famous _outside_ , so if Spamton says he wants to surpass Jevil, that can only mean that he _knows_ that Jevil is famous outside........!
@@NotASpyReally Yeah. Also if you speak to Seam they'll tell you that Jevil seems to be aware that he's in a game (which seemed like insanity to the other darkeners, but is actually true). I think that Jevil knows that Deltarune is a video game, but thinks he's the player (hence why he thinks he's free). Spamton is also aware of this, and wants to be a big shot as in popular with the fandom (surpass jevil) but also be free from his path as determined by the game devs? IDK, probably seems like a load of rubbish to you/people who know stuff.
@@roomfullofpigeons That's super interesting and I love it Undertale already broke the fourth wall everytime it taked about DETERMINATION and time travel cause that's a _real_ thing that the players have, but if all of this is true, Deltarune is gonna break the fourth wall in another level
@@sinterpass you still have crazy determination, and if you mean it in multi route the opponents just run when their at low hp because they're smart, and well, susie at the beginning.
@@afewofmycommentsarecringy.8646 Not sure if it's determination doing the work there. While it is emphasized you do have determination, it's more to get to show you that you can turn away and that you're deliberately making the choice to kill, and Kris doesn't really have exp or lv because Noelle is freezing them, not Kris.
this somehow makes sense, because "NEO was built for strength," and Mettaton NEO has a LOT more strength than defense, and Spamton NEO deals huge amounts of damage. Mettaton trades nearly all his defense for strength, thinking he could kill you in one hit, but you also can.
A little detail that I noticed at the end of Deltarune Chapter 2, was that Kris leaves a crack in the front door so that the Dark Fountain can reach outside!
@@sharktos3218 I think you nailed it. He slashed the tires and Toriel called the police. She’d naturally investigate the cracked door and get stuck in the Dark Workd
@@cringetrash3498 Spamtons design is lore friendly because swatch implies that spamton impersonated Queen's butlers to get to the robot. Maybe spamton did originally look like a monopoly guy with a pipe
Here's the thing: I've seen a few videos about the lyrics in Big Shot, and the first one is always heard as "Please, Mike, answer the phone". Everyone's been saying Gaster is responsible for Jevil's insanity and Spamton's success but we barely know anything about Gaster. All we know is that he was a Royal Scientist, he fell into something he created, and he was shattered across time and space. We don't even know if he wrote Entry 17! So what if this mysterious mind-breaker is Mike? Spamton does end up losing his mind due to someone on the phone. Maybe he dialed the phone but only got this strange garbage noise. But that's just a theory.
What about the Garbage Noise, You can Call a Number in the dark world and Here the noises IN entry 17, As well sounds like the noise of Gaster in the Over world
@@freezacold7100 W.D. has never been officially confirmed by Toby Fox or a member of his team to stand for "Wing Dings". Heck, we might not even have seen him. Everyone thinks the Mystery Man that can be encountered in Waterfall is Gaster, but we don't know that that's even him. All we know about Gaster is that he was the former Royal Scientist, he fell into something he created, and he was scattered across time and space.
I've noticed the "Everywhere man." In all 3 games. I first noticed him in Alphys' true lab in the bird Amalgamate fight. Then I noticed him in Jevil's fight on the carousel. Then I noticed him in the ally where Bratty is hanging out in Chapter 2. Along with the fight with the pop up enemy, where you click "Block." And then you have to close to pop ups, he's in one of them.
He also shows up in the Queen's boss fight during the attack where she uses some characters in blocks to shoot messages at you, and one of the characters in blocks is Every Man, who remains silent.
I think spamton is a representation for Kris, which is why Kris seems so distressed after it and Ralsei is a representation of us, most people tried to be kind the whole time, a pacifist. He also stopped Kris from being distressed immediately, not drawing attention to it.
11:58 Remember, Kris and you are two different entities. The characters in the game say that Kris acted differently before you actually took control. This gives away that Kris hasn’t met Gaster yet, maybe. But you probably have already met Gaster.
10:54 "as Frisk tumbled down in 201X." It was my understanding that it was Chara, not Frisk, who fell in 201X. Later in the game, the exact same sepia-toned (a tone that generally indicates the past) art style is used to show young Asriel helping Chara up from their fall. Also, in New Home, there is a calendar the narration describes as "an *old* calendar from the end of 201X", clearly indicating that, by the time Frisk arrives, it is no longer 201X. In a Genocide run, the red-text narrator describes the same calendar with "The date I came here."
@@Jay-fl5yr I don't know that there's any authoritative source for that, or a way to really figure out how long it has been between Chara's and Frisk's fall. We do know that Chara was with the Dreemurrs long enough to form a close family bond, and we know that six more human children (at least) fell between Chara's death and Frisk's fall, and we know that Toriel tells Frisk that it had been a "long time" since the previous human fell, but I don't know if there's any way to really get that specific.
This takes me waaaaay back to when Swanky had a very low subscriber count and before Undetale truly blew up. It's been fun to see how Swanky much like Toby has evolved over the past 6 years. And of course it's fun having new clues about our mysterious man who speaks in hands.
Spamton, not only Jevil, knows about the HP mechanic. He has a line at the end of the Weird Route before his final attack where he says, "MY ESTEEM CUSTOMER I SEE YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO DEPLETE MY HP!"
What we know for certain about Gaster: - He is in pain. - He created the Core. - He was the royal scientist before Alphys. - He was shattered across space and time after falling into an experiment. - He wanted to create a new future with us, the player. There isn't really much here that determines what kind of person he is. There are conflicting ideas. Some people think that he wants to create a world where choices matter, maybe to prevent a future that he previously saw as inevitable, but after observing the player in Undertale, he realised that we could change the fate of the world. On the other hand, there a re a few hints that suggest that Gaster, more than anything, is just interested in gaining the player's soul for himself. He might want to use this to craft the world exactly as he sees fit, or simply to free himself from whatever state he is in. The main reason it is difficult to determine the nature of Gaster is that all of the angles that we look at him show something slightly different. For example, in the intro to Deltarune, he communicates with us, the player, very well. Sure, his speech is a little strange, but it's clear what he's saying. However, when he's on the phone in the dark world, there is just garbage noise. When he is behind the trees, he doesn't talk to us, and seemingly fades in and out of existence. His form is all over the place.
Small Theory: I have a feeling each chapter will have some outlier character that is symbolic of a sin. Jevil is Pride, that’s why he says “I can do anything” Based on what the 2nd ones story is. I can say that he is greed…
The "G" in Spamton G Spamton may stand for Greed, so it fits! Additionally, Jevil is very obviously a mix of joy and devil, so linking it to pride would match as well.
I think the third chapter will have Mike as a Queen-like character, for one reason, and one reason alone. This is gonna sound nuts, but if the world is in television, and the guy’s name is Mike, it’s highly possible that his name would be Mike Television… or, and we all know Toby likes a good reference… Mike TV. Yes, like the Willy Wonka character.
Well, Spamton speaks of a TV show host messing him up at the last second. Mike TV could be a TV show host, and the next chapter could be filled with Mettaton TV Show-like puzzles.

@@kirby-impostor5594 YOU [[Little Slime]]!!! I SPENT A [[?!?!]] TON OF TIME ON THAT [[Complementary Obstacle Course]] AND YOU SPIT IN ITS [[$9.99]] FACE?!?!?
I haven’t heard anyone say this but I think it’s going to be a recurring theme. Both Jevil and Spamton both have a speech problem. Jevil repeats words unnecessarily and Spamton glitches out and says things that sound completely random. So I believe that after coming into contact with gaster, they gained a speech problem and the fact that their vocal speech is affected so weirdly reminds me of how Sans Papyrus and Gaster are all named after a form of typed text (which is a form of speech)
On a further thought, a big theme with them is also Freedom so in tandem with the speech topic my last paragraph spoke about, it brings up the theme of Freedom of Speech
I got the impression, at least if he is the one who guides you through creating your vessel, that Gaster wanted to connect with people most of all. It would be tragic if he didn't even intend for them to break like they did.
The thing that caught me is the phone in his store. Normally I'd just think of it as an insignificant detail, but it bears striking resemblance to the Earthbound Savepoint phone. Earthbound takes place in 199X, It's a well known fact that Toby likes Earthbound, so I wouldn't be surprised if a few of these were thrown in as an homage to it, but only time will tell.
What if every character is being controlled by someone like Kris? Perhaps Mike is like the player, but just controls someone asides Kris. I started thinking of this when I recalled that Susie had a red soul in chapter 1 while the player controlled her when she fought Lancer. Toby said that the red soul wasn’t a mistake.
The soul in that fight still comes from Kris, at the start of Lancer's attacks you can see it come from the top right corner where their cell is and then it goes back
My theory is that each chapter will have their own "weirdo character" Jevil, Spamton etc. And at the end of it all, they'll all assemble, or you'll assemble the items they drop and fight off against a Gaster-like figure. I like to imagine that these characters had Undertale counterparts that we never saw or didn't recognize, and that sans is the only one who made it out, if the Undertale cast gets to go to the dark world, maybe sans will have a moment with these guys, who knows? I think sans fits in perfectly with this crowd.
Actually the puppet shopkeeper in Ralsei's castle says something about shade crystals, that can be collected from powerful adversaries. I really don't remember, but you should check it out. You have to defeat Jevil in Ch. 1 and go to shopkeeper at the start of Ch. 2 and talk to him.
theory : the secret bosses are based off the deadly sins because jevil is pride and thinks he is the only one that is free and spamton is greed because of all the deals he makes edit: after further research i found that the levels are ascending in the common classification of the levels of hell pride is lowest and greed is second lowest so next will prob wrath
I never thought of "the man who speaks in hands" possibly being reference to a man who makes phone calls. He speaks via the receiver in someone's hands, he speaks in hands. Really good catch, man!

@@romanpereyra8942 Maybe, but queen explains they were forged with a knife, something we see kris with at the end of chapter 1. Sure you could say Kris just ate the pie but I find that highly unlikely to just be the case. But we will see!
Probably impossible to happen theory: In chapters 1 2 3 4 5 6, there will be secret bosses, each giving you a shadow crystal just like in chapter 1 and 2. These crystals are somehow a part of Gaster and Gaster managed to manipulate the world to unite all of the 6 by phone calls, in chapter 7 he will bring himself back to the world because of the crystals being found and united, and will be a ultimate secret boss
Another thing could be the 7 souls. With Jevil, we simply used the determination soul. With Spamton, we used justice. So maybe we’ll use the other human souls too, which could be a key ingredient in the shadow crystals. 7 souls, 7 crystals, 7 chapters for that door to open (that’s just a guess tho)
@@bandito6678 It less about wanting him back and more about his actions/motive. He seems more and more like a villain. I think the clear answer here that Toby Fox has been hinting at with Spamton is that Toby got THE Mike Ditka himself to become a major antagonist in DeltaRune In all seriousness, I thought that Chapter 1 on its own was really interesting, but Chapter 2 has blown my expectations away; all of the theorizing and discussion about it is really fun, and I'm super excited to see what happens with the rest of DeltaRune
It’s Mike Matei. At some point, Spamton tells Kris to “go play [minecrap] or something” which is an obvious reference to Minecraft With Gadget by Mike Matei
11:40 spamton doesn't fade away, he's still conscious in the item just like jevil, if your inventory is full when you should get the item, he has dialogue, proving he is still very much alive in there
I find it interesting that the most pronounced leitmotifs in Spamton Neo's theme are undertale ones. You've got Power of Neo, Dummy!, Ghost Fight, etc. An obvious connection to be drawn is that of "ghosts" or by extension, puppets. You easily draw the parallel to Happstablook's story. But why are the Undertale tracks "motif-ed" in the first place? In the Dark World, there are very very few themes that have Undertale leitmotifs. Can this be drawn to connect to the "outside help" Spamton received?
There is also Flowey pellets, Omega Flowey screams, and the vines that look like Flowey's stems. No idea why the flower is also tied to Spamton, but I know it's there.
Another thing that no one seems to notice is a chain, big shot has bits of dummy, which is ALSO spider dance, the song of a spider who has super over priced goods, a scammer but for a good purpose, like spamton, but I don’t know if spamton has a good reason
16:05 spamton could also be reffering to mike as a 'friend' in a way that he means someone he looks up to, like how little kids (or sometimes adults) might call their favorite cartoon character or stuffed animal thier friend
Could Undertale Gaster’s way of speaking in Wingdings be considered “Garbage Text”? It would play along well with how in Deltarune, he’s theorized to be associated with the “Garbage Noise” from the phones.
I have a general theory for what happened with Mike and Spamton. Mike found his way to Spamton through a connection between his Dark World and Spamton's Dark World, that being the TV's connection to the internet. This is based off the fact that Mike's Dark World is localised in the living room where Kris created the fountain, though. Going to the "Big Shot" soda advert, this could tie to DELTARUNE in the way that Mike promoted BIG SHOT which would be, in this case, Spamton's brand. It is mentioned in Deltarune that Toriel's home lost connection to the internet a "while ago" and that it will be getting fixed sooner or later. With the loss of the signal, this could've cut the ties between Mike and Spamton's Dark Worlds. This caused Spamton's business to start crumbling due to the loss of traction from the promotions. This eventually leads to him being kicked out of the mansion and getting himself into the state you see him in-game. It is said that it seems he left the mansion "mid-call", so my idea is that he kept trying to desperately ring Mike back before he goes entirely under, eventually giving up and leaving. Though hey that's just a game theo-
Well, it seems that when the knight (whoever it is) comes into contact with someone, they become self aware of them being a fictional world or prison and loses their mind, like spamton wanted to see above the dark as he says during his quest. At least that's my take on it
My working theory is that Kris is the knight and the reason we don't see him open up dark fountains is that he normally does it away from us. i.e. he opened the one in the abandoned classroom sometime ago and it was ripening via the hatred of the darkners. (The lightners were originally just Kris. This explains why Ralsei exists, he is Kris's cognition of Asriel when he can't be there. The darkners of course being abandoned when Kris grew up) Kris opens up the library fountain incognito after realizing that he can still spend time with Asriel as Ralsei. He hides his actions from us by eating the pie and making Toriel scold him about it, making us think he just got up to get pie without us in a creepy way. At the end of chapter 2 Kris is fed up he wants us gone and no longer cares what happens to anyone else in his attempts to remove us
@@solitudeguard8122 I think thats exactly it. The dialog that Kris is seriously fucked up/shocked about the events after the Neo Spamton fight where Ralsei tries to play it down so the player wont notice how shocked Kris is. @@solitudeguard8122 what doesn't make sense with this theory as far as i could tell is that none of the characters that should have interacted with the Knight recognize Kris: King, Queen, Jevil or Spamton. plus, it doesn't really seem like Kris is ill-intended. that doesn't really exclude the possibility that they're the Knight for sure, but Kris still has some slight control (namely in how they say what you make them say). lots of examples (e.g. Kris screaming after the NEO battle), but one of the weirder ones is during the snowgrave route: Kris seems to be shouting when calling Ralsei or Susie, but seems reluctant to call Noelle (as they whisper).
@@asuasuasu big difference actually, Kris is the one who calls for Ralsei or Susie, but YOU are the one that calls out to Noelle, this can also be seen in the Birdley snowgrave fight, where if Kris goes down, Noelle can "Still hear their voice"

What murderous intented Kris, uh? They ate the pie with that knife, and there's absolutely no evidence that Kris has any bad motives. Heck they probably cut off the tires just to not go to school on chapter 3, making a fountain to have a good time with their friend Susie (which they made thanks to us mind you) I don't think our goals are that far away from Kris'
Kris is aware of what making a fountain does. So he didn't do it because he wanted another adventure, hell, he knew that toriel and (maybe) Undyne/Napstablook would be there
@@iamsargentbucky9368 Well Kris isn't responsible for what *we* make them do per say. Though I get their actions when ripping us out of them can be ambiguous, if it follows the trend chapter 1 seems to have started establishing I really don't think they'll be any sort of antagonistic figure. All this 'Kris is bad' talk reminds me when most people still believed Chara to be pure evil, and not just a misgueded child, convinced by OUR actions of their rightness.
@@tsukiche5939 Well I do hope kris has good intentions even though what he's doing without our control could potentially destroy the world, there's hope
I watched TetraBitGaming's video on Chapter 1's unused content right before this one, and I noticed something very interesting. In Chapter 1, there is an unused monologue for an unspecified character that is alone in the dark and calling for help, which lines up with Spamton's out-of-place lines.
My theory is that Spamton wants to get "bigger" by literally escaping the game into the real world, OUR world. Jevil, Spamton, Kris and Gaster all know about TP points, choices and how they don't have any. I think the reason why they all act the way they do, is so they can get a taste of control, of freedom from the game. (an example of this would be Kris ripping out their heart)
To put my own theory in as few words as possible: Spamton was either a salesman, or a sentient advert spamming software on a computer/internet - keep in mind Dark Worlds seem to give life to otherwise inanimate objects and even abstract concepts like programs and data - among salesmen (or other marketing software) who wasn't doing great and was desperate, to the point of imitating the Swatch (or another legitimate "website"). We'll have to assume that the Dark World inside the library or at least Spamton as a sentient entity has existed at least since 1997 but the gateway to it has only opened recently, otherwise the older backstories and worldbuilding elements don't make sense. With this in mind, Spamton receives a call from Gaster, giving him a lot of advice and insight into how his world (the dark world representing the internet) works. Strategies, predictions, etc which help Spamton massively. But Spamton, like Jevil, has also had the revelation that he's in a smaller world than Gaster, and most things in it, himself included, are predetermined. When Gaster and the help they provided disappeared, he reverted to his predetermined lack of success. Spamton sees this as him not being in control of his life so, as seen in chapter 2's present, he's trying everything to cut his strings and no longer be enslaved to his fate. At first, he thought the NEO body would set him free, being a direct creation of a Lightener that he thought would allow him to be "bigger" (live in the bigger, lightener world). When he realized this wasn't enough, he realized he needed a soul (a symbol of agency, self and *making your own decisions*), which he tries to take from Kris. To be big, in Spamton's context, means to ascent past the limitations of your fate and your world, which Spamton thought he could achieve by taking a soul. Heaven, as he calls it, is likely an abstract concept that Spamton sees as the worlds above his own, that can look down upon him and can see his strings as well as his fate. Spamton's moment of "lucidity" when he asks for help is basically triggered when he thinks about his fear, which is his fear of the "darkness", the newfound unknown of not knowing what comes next or what resides in the worlds above him.
To me, when Spamton said he wanted to be "so big we see over the dark", it already gave away that he wanted to become a Titan, as what Ralsei mentioned when the characters wanted to create fountains of their own.
The fountain from chapter 1 was also opened "recently" but had a rich history. I'm gonna have to assume time flows very differently between the dark worlds and the "real world"
@@almendraman highly agreed with this, I remember when we start chapter 2, Ralsei said something along the line of "didn't see you for a long time, I missed you" or something, and Susie was like "dude, it's only been yesterday" and Ralsei said "oh yeah, it is huh". Couldn't remember the exact lines, but it goes along that, or it's just a nudge for players not seeing them for 2 years already.
@@firaVee Ralsei could be lying about the titans though, he was acting a little suspicious post spamton fight, an the whole “titans” thing doesn’t really seem to fit the themes of control and freedom Toby has been building the last two chapters with he secret bosses, and the fact that ralsei is just weird compared to other darkners but never explains how (like how he doesn’t turn to stone or why he is the sole inhabitant of castle town or how we never see what his real world mirror is) all this seems to lead to the idea that ralsei might be lying to cover up the real reason he is try to get the player (the soul is the player and kris is the body, and the soul is what is sealing the fountains, hence he is trying to get the player to do it) to seal fountains, though we won’t know anything for sure till chapter 3, just like how snowgrave berdly’s fate is still up to interpretation as of now.
@@Endyre Ralsei's been weird the whole chapter too, like started with him telling us to go back to "the old classroom at the east", so specifically. He could've just said "the previous fountain you sealed", how did Ralsei know the layout of the school, and kinda knows what it is up there over the dark world?

That information about that commercial about Big Shot Soda... that is EERIE how it lines up. Look at the little guy on the soda bottle. Doesn't he look like Spamton?
Hey, Swankybox! Here's something I caught during the Stream Reveal, which was kept in the intro to Ch 2! The passage that Berdly read in class, the "Best of times, worst of times" quote, is based on "A Tale of Two Cities." The reason I bring this up, and why I'm freaking out so much about it, is because of the plot synopsis of the story: A French DOCTOR is released from an 18 year imprisonment where he was PRESUMED DEAD and reunites with LONG LOST FAMILY. And this all takes place before and during the French Revolution, aka a civil WAR.
Maybe I’m missing something, but could you explain how this relates to the lore? I’m just a little confused because I don’t know how a doctor in a civil war relates to deltarune.
@@Naut7 I'm saying this has a LOT of parallels to Gaster. A doctor, presumed dead, long lost family (Sans and Papyrus), and a war (the war between humans and monsters). Also, I believe the reason the French doctor was imprisoned was because he saved the life of someone a French aristocrat didn't like, and therefore was imprisoned for so long he was presumed dead. If this is also a parallel, perhaps Gaster's experiments were something Toby (the Annoying Dog) didn't like, and they pushed him into the Core and shattered him as a result.
I noticed something, spamton mentions kromer , during the sans boss fight you health is split between HP and KR which could mean kromer and the colors of spamtons glasses correspond with the colors of HP and KR
Notice the use of [hyperlink blocked]; It's almost always as a noun in Spamton's dialogue, as something you can "give", "want" or "obtain" in some manner. To me, I think the word that's blocked is *chaos*. Reason being, if you pay attention to Spamton's dialogue in Weird Route's final boss fight, he claims that the player and Noelle were making [hyperlink blocked] without him, and that they were throwing him away cuz they didn't need it from him anymore. This is the same person that sells you the ring that allows you to fatally injure Berdley, cuz if SnowGrave is not used on Berdley, the game proceeds like normal. Like there is nothing wrong, despite the fact that you just got done gaslighting Noelle into being "stronger" and almost had her at a break point. Her animations even return to normal entirely after this. Spamton seems to know a player who seeks an alternative route wants [hyperlink blocked], aka chaos, and that's the only way so far the player's actions significantly change the narrative. Slight headcanon: I imagine it's [hyperlink blocked] because Spamton is something partially related to the internet, and searching up strange things on a *public* computer, like the library's, probably isn't a good idea, so words like that would be censored, like Spamton's cusswords.
I think [Hyperlink Blocked] refers to choices. Spamton, much more than Jevil, is obsessed with finally having the freedom to make decisions with noone controlling him. The reason he asks Kris and the player if they’ve been “making [Hyperlink Blocked]” in the SnowGrave route possibly stems from Spamton knowing the player is trying to force the storyline to diverge via the manipulation of Noelle. That is, making choices. From the very beginning the player has been at just as much the same ammount of oppression as the characters. We are given a glimmer of [Hyperlink Blocked], of choices, when we input our name and make a character, only to be forcefully inserted into Kris to try and close up the dark fountains. If you think about it, the SnowGrave route has US as the token character that goes insane over not having freedom, only the results are much, much darker than Jevil or Spamton’s.
@Grape I think those are literal cuss words. Cuz I mean, that could easily be “I’m sh!tting myself!”. Remember, Spamton is on or around a public pc, and there are likely censors placed on all the programs. It’s why no Darkners there cuss or it’s censored.
@Grape Yeah, even though Spamton breaks some of the “rules”, he can’t break that rule. It’s interesting how they did that anyway, since the [] dialogue tends to be taglines or apparently, hyperlinks to click on.
@@PeeperSnail That works well too. Main reason why I think it’s chaos is cuz it seemed to fit well. But that also works, since the game really wanted to pretend that our choices don’t matter, but everybody else’s do.
I feel like there's a connection between Metatton and Spamton. Not just Metatton but probably the ghost of the Dummy as well. BIG SHOT has the Metatton Neo and Dummy! leitmotif. Seam also said a lightner is part of the basement robot. In the post-game, you can talk with Metatton's soul and he asked for a piece of entertainment. TV is one of them and also seems like the main theme for Chapter 3
SnowGrave route aside, it really does seem like we’re the benevolent pupeteer, and whoever is controlling Kris and made Jevil and Spamton to go insane, Gaster or not, is the main antagonist.
Yes like the ANGEL from the ANGEL'S HEAVEN. Like the one Spamton seems to almost threaten as the crew cuts the strings. Right before he is struck down instantly by something unseen.
Im pretty sure "whoever is controlling Kris" is *literally us* though. *we* are the ones who initiate Snowgrave, and pretty much the only reason people insist on the idea that SOUL-less Kris is possessed is because at the End of CH1 they looked kinda like Chara and Chara is the UT-fandoms favorite scapegoat for the Players negative actions. Unless the game decides to pull a "Kris is actually controlled both with *and* without a SOUL!" its probably more likely that Kris rips out ther SOUL to refuse us control, but they cant live without it, creating a parallel to Spamton NEO not being able to live without his strings. Also keep in mind that we havent actually seen Kris do anything explicitly "evil" on their own. Snowgrave is pretty much confirmed to be entirely our doing. Creating a Fountain can be explained by Kris wanting to spend time with Susie and Ralsei (and possibly Toriel) especially it followed a conversation about how nice it would be if the Darkners could come to the Light World. And it doesnt seem like 2 Fountains are enough to cause the Roaring, so theoretically it appears relatively "safe" to create Fountains as long as they close them afterwards. We dont actaully eve know for sure if Kris is really the Knight or not. Its the "obvious" choice, but we only ever see Kris actively opening a Fountain after Queen revealed that all Lightners seem to be capable of it, so framing Kris as a creepy ominous Fountain-opener might simply be a Red Herring. Alternatively, we arent even sure if the Knight actually *wants* to cause the Roaring since theyve only opened one at a time so far.
@@Miropup cool also about the dark world thingy i think kris knows something we dont so hes making more portals to keep the game going so that he dosent get his life put on stasis or something

Um now i wish this was cannon
Underrated honestly
Maybe it’s possible that whoever abandoned Spamton (phone person) might have also made a deal with Kris (what deal, I’m not sure) before we even make a vessel (beginning of the game), and maybe that is why the player is in control of Kris. I mean, before we save for the first time in the Dark World it is shown to have previously been saved by Kris, and when you call in the Dark World you to get the same noise that was heard allegedly from Spamton’s phone. I don’t know, just a small theory I just thought of…
That might also explain why Kris is uneasy about Spamton being “a puppet” and “pulled by strings,” because like you said, that’s something Kris relates to.
@@brendac.3537 That makes a lot of sense
Maybe the deal that Spamton is trying to make is for Kris to give them the soul so they can finally be a success like Kris? Maybe Spamton used to be controlled by a soul, but in an effort to free themselves they instead destroyed it?
When he was talking to "you" and focused straight at the viewpoint, I got chills. Because it was clear he meant the player not Kris

Just pulling at straws here
Jevil also hinted at Spamton (His FINAL CHAOS ATTACK comes with a voiceline, "The True And NEO Chaos!").
@@CaptainCoolzCT- In the genocide ending text he says "The queen arrives, and hells roar bubbles from the depths". He correctly predicted queen, and in the same sentence he defiantly makes a metaphor for the castle basement.

-Spamton
I'm not sure if this is EXACTLY what he's saying , but I'm sure he said : Spamton G Spamton
And the wrong number call asks if they can talk to "G"
Except for the fact that these are completely different universes we're talking about.
In the end, Deltarune and Undertale should be connected in some rad way
The theory I liked is that this is a timeline in which Gaster wasn't erased, and from which Sans and Papyrus could possibly have gotten into undertale's one (in which monsters in Snowdin say that they just showed up there one day and that's it)

nice

@@aujdaqueen yea
I dont remember when this was, but somewhere through out chapter 2 the game refers to Kris and YOU the player being two separate people via text. When Spamton says "Do you want to be a heart on a chain your whole life?" hes basically asking Kris if they want to be free from YOU the player, suggesting that youre controlling this "being" known as Kris. Kris is the players puppet. Thats why Kris tries to rip their soul out in the end of chapter 1.
Just a theory though.
Dude that was basically already canon by the first chapter,
Soulless Kris is controlled by Chara.

Well he succeeded in that regard.
He surpassed Jevil quite easily I'd say
Wait... that's true!

Undertale already broke the fourth wall everytime it taked about DETERMINATION and time travel cause that's a _real_ thing that the players have, but if all of this is true, Deltarune is gonna break the fourth wall in another level
In Undertale: Mettaton NEO can be one shotted
In Deltarune: Spamton NEO takes forever to kill, and he states that "NEO was built for strength"
In deltarune your not frisk/chara who have crazy determination and EXP/LV
NEO was built to kill humans. By the time you fight mettaton neo, your not human anymore

Also, in New Home, there is a calendar the narration describes as "an *old* calendar from the end of 201X", clearly indicating that, by the time Frisk arrives, it is no longer 201X. In a Genocide run, the red-text narrator describes the same calendar with "The date I came here."

Spamton, not only Jevil, knows about the HP mechanic. He has a line at the end of the Weird Route before his final attack where he says, "MY ESTEEM CUSTOMER I SEE YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO DEPLETE MY HP!"
2:15 The recycling bin in the library, with a bunch of spam emails printed out, implies that's him.
What we know for certain about Gaster:
- He is in pain.
What if all the secret bosses are fragments of gaster and theyre connected to him by that and thats what corrupted them?

I think the third chapter will have Mike as a Queen-like character, for one reason, and one reason alone.

Maybe the voice at the start of chapter 1 is gaster and gaster broke kris, which makes him act like he does when not being controlled by the player

There is also Flowey pellets, Omega Flowey screams, and the vines that look like Flowey's stems. No idea why the flower is also tied to Spamton, but I know it's there.

He litearlly coulnt take it anymore after seeing that & moved R&K plan forward in a drastic action.

Every day that I see a theory and facts about deltarune i convince me even more than toby only wanted to tell us the history of gaster, Undertale, the game that we use as a reference, is not the history of a fallen child, is the introduction of a bigger story that is slowly showing to us
What murderous intented Kris, uh? They ate the pie with that knife, and there's absolutely no evidence that Kris has any bad motives. Heck they probably cut off the tires just to not go to school on chapter 3, making a fountain to have a good time with their friend Susie (which they made thanks to us mind you)
I don't think our goals are that far away from Kris'
Kris is aware of what making a fountain does. So he didn't do it because he wanted another adventure, hell, he knew that toriel and (maybe) Undyne/Napstablook would be there
It's a lot. Considering the "weird" route kris can have 2 different reasons for making them.

TP points aren't a secret in the world of Deltarune, but I get what you're saying

I really thought the old machine was mettaton neo, the silhouette is similar to mettaton's neo form you can distinct the "hair style" and the shoulder pads without the spikes.
Pretty sure that's what's implied. Swatch, as the video says, mentions How a Lightner, presumably mettaton/alphys, made it
It pretty much is. But since there's no one to build it, it remained a concept image.

The passage that Berdly read in class, the "Best of times, worst of times" quote, is based on "A Tale of Two Cities." The reason I bring this up, and why I'm freaking out so much about it, is because of the plot synopsis of the story:
A French DOCTOR is released from an 18 year imprisonment where he was PRESUMED DEAD and reunites with LONG LOST FAMILY. And this all takes place before and during the French Revolution, aka a civil WAR.
Oh wow
Maybe I’m missing something, but could you explain how this relates to the lore? I’m just a little confused because I don’t know how a doctor in a civil war relates to deltarune.
@@Naut7
I'm saying this has a LOT of parallels to Gaster.
@@yourcollegedebt8384 why tf people are still thinking that Gaster is even related to the skelebros?

I feel like each secret boss refers to freedom because kris doesn’t truly have freedom, he is controlled by the player
surprised i haven’t seen anyone talking about spamton being the narrator during his fights
@Grape not always. At one point, he says [killed you] incorrectly
Wait wouldn't that mean us pacifist route or not
I feel like in the context of Deltarune the phrase “benevolent puppeteer” is contradictory.

I think there’s something about Kris’ silence that has to do with his possible knowledge about the game. When you talk to Catti in Pt.2 she says they studied the occult and took a vow of silence. Then she asks Kris to bring her something. We also find out Kris has been to the locked door South of town before. I think there might really be something there to think about
