Jeff is the most educational fighter on TH-cam on my opinion. He fights officially and breaks down what he does. Keep up the good work and stay safe bro.
I have a wrestling base from high school so this is exactly what I needed. Thanks man. Know that a ton of us that you've never met are rooting for you. Remember that when times get tough and training is hard. We wanna see you shine brotha! Shine onnnn
Love you're videos. As so eone who's been fighting for 15 years, love how you show failed attempts and teaching realistically which is something that doesn't happen too often on TH-cam. Big fan buddy
This is one of the most useful videos I've ever seen. 5:37 THIS. I always see you doing it in the sparring footage and I fucking love it I'm so glad you made this vid 😂
jeff dude , if i had this in 2006 when i started mannnn, ur the king of free knowledge of the sport thanks, im writng you because im preparing a program for a few students of mine,
contact sports have evolved a lot, since athletes who stood out for presenting something new, or some way of fighting, bring with them new methods of combat, and that's a good thing. but there are certain individuals who, because they do not fight but observe creating, mechanisms and techniques, from trials, successes and mistakes, we see how each one contributes to the combat, this video of yours shows this, how a striker can neutralize q fight standing for a fight grappling struggle. I'm Brazilian and I realize that in your videos you can explain how to take down, your opponent would not expect a movement like this, thanks for your teachings.
Great video I was waiting for such a topic. Especially the first technique ....fake , then overhand and then take down....question- when the opponent kicks, grab the kick, do you ever simply step back pullling the leg and causing a take down instead of the sweep?
It’s difficult to do that as your momentum is already going forward and pulling straight back and straight forward is easier to defend against, best bet is to follow the momentum then lean either right or left depending on the situation, in wrestling it’s called cutting the corner.
I realize that so much of what you do flows really naturally when strung together. That inside leg kick from #7 flies back into southpaw because it's more natural to push off their leg than to intentionally place it back in front of you. You've also covered that it's much more comfortable and natural to sway to the open side of your stance than to sway towards your lead leg, so you've got the back-left sway to dodge the counter-attack as you land in southpaw. And finally, you've mentioned before that as a right-handed fighter you prefer shooting takedowns from southpaw, so you're already loaded up after all of this to shoot in.
Wow this is awesome for a street fight! I was looking for a striking and takedown mix for self defense on the street and finally found what I was looking for. None is as good as this video thanks a lot!!
Coming off of a lower body injury (no surgery luckily) but as a result I'm not able to rely on my striking/clinching the way I normally do. Definitely appreciated this video.
Came here after watching Rda’s last fight. Cleanest takedowns since GSP. Do you have a specific target for your shoulder?(head inside double)I’ve been using my forehead to chest for square stance opponents but I don’t know where to start with more bladed opponents.
id like to make apparel, and have been looking into it. But I want to do a very good job at it so I need more time and the right graphic designer/supplier!
Just Got the prep to fight course and this is exactly what i was looking for, methods of proactive takedown training, like in the prep to fight course do you have any ways of making these into drills like that or recommendations on learning these ?
hey man thanks for giving the course a chance! Hmm you can add a 'combos' part to the drilling, where you drill out your favourite combos. Then you can go ahead and continue the program as is!
I can see a strong resemblance of your game between GSP and Rory Macdonald, I think it’s a Canadian thing lol now the question is did you train and learn this from tri star or just developed over time. Great video Jeff.
Hi! I love your videos. I practice Silat, and this style of double leg takedown is not traditional in that art. What prevents your opponent from kicking you in the face when you take a low position for the takedown?
I had an epiphany tonight while Muay Thai sparring... I spend to much time thinking and not doing and then thinking about me not doing anything. Do you have any tips to break the overthinking cycle. I believe in my fundamentals but I get in my own head when it comes time to execute. Any help you have would be appreciated.
Hey bro, if you are thinking too much or in other words freezing, you just need to spend more time drilling. Drill so much that you instinctually react!
Jeff Chan MMAShredded sounds like I should invest in more one on one lessons and strictly drill. Thanks for the tip. I’ll try to implement it into my training.
May I ask tho, why are you lifting your feet mid while taking down your opponent? Was it to put the weigh down to the upper body so you become much heavier which would make you easily take your opponent down? Or is it because youre already driving your momentum and weigh on that direction so you need a few more inches (which is very unlikely cause you can alternate your steps while driving them)/
thanks man! and honestly I havnt heard any news.. just waiting. Im not sure if this is the reason, but I heard Liam Harrison make a post saying they aren't bringing any American fighters right now because we all have to quarantine for 2 weeks when we go to Asia!
I see you switch to southpaw as soon as u change level before you shoot...whats the rationale...do u feel u get more drive/ momentum to shoot on the switch stance?
touch sparring helps you develop timing and reaction, while never getting injured. Sparring a little harder allows you toughen up a bit but also get use to the pace of a real fight. So both types of sparring are necessary
The only reason to ever take a (uncontrolled) fight to ground is as a last ditch attempt to stave off the inevitable: NEVER go down voluntarily, you have no idea how many of your opponent's mates are just waiting for THAT opportunity. FAST: In, strike, out...break every grasp , break every grab, disentangle & counter immediately. Standing is where the winner ends .....On the ground is where the losing starts....and ends. In the mud.
