  • In today's video we visit with Selma a Turkish Residency Expert in Antalya Turkey. ,The city of Antalya is a bustling beach city of 2,500,000, which is a popular tourist destination, as well as a year round favorite Expat location. The average US Retiree on Social Security receives $1,550 a month, and a couple on Social Security receives over $2,500 a month. A US Expat living on Social Security can expect a great standard of living in Turkey when compared to the living costs in the US.
Currently Turkey is a tremendous value for Expats with income from abroad, the exchange rate when this vide was made was 13.5 Turkish Lira to the US Dollar.

You and your family can get citizenship if you invest $250.000 in Turkish Real Estate. The problem due to the Turkish lira being a Fiat currency everyone in Turkey is buying real estate to escape inflation. Real Estate transactions are done in dollars only. The Ukraine war has destroyed the Turkish economy due to the closure of the Black Sea. I have a lot of Turkish friends and they are leaving.

I would then fly back to Ukraine pack up my wife/cat and belongings and drive all the way back in our car. I will definitely be using the nice lady Selma to help me. My goal is to rent there for up to a year while looking for a good place to buy. I am a retired expat American married to a Ukrainian lady who has a EU passport via Prague (where we met). I visited Marmaris last summer with my wife and we absolutely loved it. I am a sailing enthusiast so the Med/Aegean is perfect. I’ve come across your videos in the last month or so and I must confess,I LOVE THEM.
I appreciate the way you approach the subject matter in question. The questions are asked in a very simply understood manner and so are the answers. End result “ Priceless Information “ and we all thank you for that.
I have a question for you. I am 76 years old and contemplating a move to the Turkish Riviera on my own. I am reasonably healthy at present, however,I don’t know for how long.
I understand that Turkey hasn’t got Senior Living Resorts as some wester countries have.
I am led to believe that it’s the family role to look after the elderlies when they can no longer look after themselves. What would happen if I decide to live in Turkey and need help in my old age on,let’s say daily basis, what would be my options? I wonder if there is a simple solution !
    Looking forward to your comment.

Hi …Turkey does have retirement homes actually. I’ve heard of really nice ones in Istanbul, where they provide everything and take the residents out on day trips. It’s really up to your budget regarding how nice of an establishment you wish to live in. They work much like the US. If you prefer to stay in your own home, there are expat Turks from Uzbekistan etc. who mainly work in the home care field through agencies. They live in your home and do everything for you. I’ve had two friends who employed such women. They’re generally very good, and reliable. They were paying them I think 4,000 TL per month. As far as the south of Turkey, you would have inquire further but, I’m sure they have retirement facilities there as well.. I hope this helped.

I think part of the problem is, it’s not very complicated and we are use to things being complicated. Please mention your unanswered questions. We applied and all they took from us was the forms Selma completed, proof of medical insurance, we showed the rates for that, our passports, our E-Visa used to enter Turkey biometric photos, and a notarized rental agreement, Nothing else was asked for, we also were fingerprinted. We did not show financials, background check or a marriage license. It was very simple, the simplest we’ve yet to hear of and part of the reason we applied. We gave our total cost for both of us combined as well excluding a rental contract. You can watch our other videos on those types of costs. You can get a place for $100 a month for a simple small location.

There are different answers for everyone, so please choose based on your likes. We like a lot of countries, but based on this question we’d choose Turkey. While we enjoyed our Ecuadorian experience, we were living with many restrictions, masks, and lock downs. We have been free in Turkey to experience everything unencumbered.

@@WarrenJulieTravel Was Turkey freer throughout the pandemic or just more recently? Do you happen to know if they were masking kids in school?

@@laurayale369 they were more restricted in the past, and kids in schools wore masks. In general about 25% of the population still wear masks outside by choice. Most do not unless in the mall, bank, grocery, public transportation or hospital. We literally only put a mask on for our grocery visits. In Ecuador you had to mask up as soon as you left your home when we were there. So I want
to make sure I mentioned this. Our time since January 2021 we’ve been in mostly free countries living fairly normal. It was a feeling of freedom and euphoria when we arrived in Serbia last year. We’ve chosen to focus our travel in less restrictive locations ever since, and why we have avoided the EU so far. Hope this makes sense, but we still loved Ecuador that didn’t change.

@@WarrenJulieTravel Interesting. Good to hear you have lived relatively freely for the past year. I chose a decade ago to live in a free county in the US and we have lived mostly unmasked since June 2020. And, of course, have seen no more than an average effect of Covid on our population (actually I think our numbers are much lower than most other locations),

Yes, I also read about a day after this video came out that they've changed the rules to avoid the problem of illegal employment. It's now down to six months for the tourist residency.

@@margamassmann9696 From what i understand the Touristic resident permit is an extension of your tourist visa. So you will have to be there on a tourist visa to apply for this permit.

Could you please confirm , if you have a 1 or 2 years Legal Residency visa, you still don't pay taxes to Turkey , for World wide income including Retirement Pensions one may have, if one live more than 183 days i a year
What follows is from "Worldwide Tax Summaries" which says one must pay Turkish taxes if stayed more than 185 days!!!
    " Turkey
    Individual - Residence
    Last reviewed - 21 February 2022
Residents are persons whose legal residences are in Turkey or who intend to settle in the country. Persons with uncertain residence status are considered to be resident if they have lived in Turkey uninterruptedly for more than six months in one calendar year.
Residents are treated as full taxpayers. Individuals whose legal residence is not in Turkey or who do not reside in Turkey for more than six months in a calendar year are treated as limited taxpayers. In general, those who stay in Turkey for more than six continuous months exclusively for the fulfilment of specific and temporary assignments are not considered as resident, and they will still be treated as limited taxpayers.
Foreign individuals who have to remain in Turkey for more than six months due to force majeure (e.g. illness, arrest) would still be considered as non-resident in Turkey."
    pleaseplease

Our understanding is if you live more than six months a year in Turkey you are subject to worldwide taxation. We suggest you reach out to a CPA if you have further questions. 😊
