- In today's video we are in Antalya Turkey, and we show expat beach life on $800 a month!? Is it possible to live on $800 a month? Antalya has a great cost to live for foreigners, expats and nomads. We visit with Ms. Greene, an American Expat currently calling Antalya Turkey home. The city of Antalya is a bustling beach city of 2,500,000, which is a popular tourist destination, as well as a year round favorite Expat location. Ms. Greene lives in the Antalya suburb city of Konyaalti that offers a great quality of life, which also includes a beach and promenade. The average US Retiree on Social Security receives $1,550 a month, and a couple on Social Security receives over $2,500 a month. Ms. Greene spends around $800.00 a month. A US Expat living on Social Security can expect a great standard of living in Turkey when compared to the living costs in the US.

@@Qmohd1 Here are some advantages and disadvantage in moving to Turkey;
Cost of living is cheaper like home renting, food, entertainments, cell phone services, internet...all those expensives are way less than Abu Dhabi...buying a car is not though.
Depends on where you want to live in Turkey the weather can be an advantage than UAE.
Disadvantage, is the language, they hardly speak English here, some cities are not organized, system here is still backwards.
Over all its beautiful here.
@@hanialturk5981 yes the English language is a issue , but only when you want advise , when your parting with money , they seem to understand it fine lol . . . I think like the French , they have alot of pride in there language and don't wish to speak it . . . I have a couple of Turkish friends in Turkey and they have a dislike of foreign Turks speaking English. . . . Mind you , Google translate does wonders !
I did a road trip in Turkey a few years ago... Istanbul, then along the Dardenelles (Troy and Gallipoli), ferry to Canakkele, Ayvalik, Izmir, Cesme, Kusedasi, and Bodrum. I love the country. My next trip will be from Bodrum to Fethiye, Kas, Antalya, and Alanya. I am in my mid 50s and Turkey is definitely on my retirement cards.

If I wanted to rent a AirBnB for one month only in Turkey, give me your top 3 cities that I should target for that? Use the criteria that you are trying to sell me on the idea of retiring there as an Expat.
@@sirgalahad1470 That would depend on what you like. If you want to still be in the heart of the, cosmopolitan city action with anonymity, lots shopping and great views, choose Istanbul. If you want a classy, Monagesque-type lifestyle, live along the harbor area of Cesme. A youthful, vibey, touristic feel can be found in Bodrum. Still keen to see the rest, though! I would seriously suggest taking a visit and checking it out to get a personal "feel" for each city.

I had people from Europe/Serbia, Bosnia,England etc as well Russian and my USA friends and ALL OF THEM SAID ALL THE BEST ABOUT TURKEY. I have 3 family's from USA went to vocation and NEVER come back. It's like Mars and Earth..Healthcare, caring for animals, friendly and very respectful great living for money...Thank you for so much AMAZING exponation and lots of information especially being single female in unknown country. My wife and I have been thinking about moving to Turkey. I am an American expat who spent over 20 years in Prague. My wife is a native Ukrainian but has Czech citizenship and I have Permanent residence. Currently we both live in her hometown in Ukraine. I am retired as my wife does not work. We were in Turkey last summer (Marmaris) and I fell in love with the place. However we have been getting reports from my wife's Russian speaking friends that prices in Turkey have been going thru the roof so we are a bit dubious. I had planned to visit Turkey for a month or more this spring to try and sort out where to live. I want to rent for a while before buying. This video has given me renewed interest.
If you’re on the Lira there has been inflation, if you’re on dollars it’s pretty cheap still. If her relatives are on the ruble it may be a different story for their currency.

The 1650 TL a year you pay for state healthcare covers all pre-existing conditions, emergency services including ambulance service, all medical expenses including medications as well as full coverage for cancer/heart disease etc. It also covers a portion of private healthcare services in hospitals with contracts with the government single payer system.
Private health insurance will cost about 5000 TL a year but can be lower depending on coverage and network.
Always opt for state and university hospitals for emergency care as they are much better staffed during off-hours.
You are always told how much you will have to pay before admittance so there are no surprises and you can choose between government and private coverage as sometimes using the government system is cheaper or not worth using your private insurance.For example a doctor's appointment with a professor at a private hospital will cost you something like 25 USD extra on government insurance so it won't be worth bumping up future private insurance premiums for that amount of out-of-pocket payment.

Hi, my hometown is Antalya, now I am living in Germany. I would say Antalya is the one of the most beautiful place to live on Earth. Now there is a currency crisis in Turkey and local people's salaries sunked around 400-500$. Minimum wage is around 350$. It is not used to be of course. Anyway you can live Antalya with 800$ but if you want to enjoy the city, you need at least 1200-1300$. The best thing from Antalya is surrounding beaches,historicak cities etc. And you need to buy a car. Unfortunalety car prices in Turkey is around 2x, 3x compared to western countries. I think this is an important cost. For example the car I bought in Germany was 2000€ in here, when I checked prices in Turkey it is around 8000€. You can bring you car if you want to settle down but it is limited to 6 months.

Many American expats work in muslim majority countries of Middle East like UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait. I don't want to be in politics but the Iraq war and Libya war and some of the war happened before the war the country was thriving.
I’m a single woman and I live here very comfortably. The people are very respectful and helpful. I do not want to return to US to live ever. The only thing I miss is Zappos shoes. I’m in my third year here in Antalya.

Hi!! I was in Antalya last year in the summer and hated. Cause it was too hot for me could not tolerate the heat. I’m planning to return this year 2022 in September with my husband to be. Last summer was awfully hot in Europe, Belgrade Serbia and Lviv Ukraine were 100+ Fahrenheit many days. That said it was probably hotter in Antalya. This has been a colder than normal winter in Antalya so every year can vary. This said late June to mid September are supposed to be the hottest times for the area. I hear overall September is a decent weather month so I hope you experience better temperatures when you return.

Your weather can be anywhere from potentially freezing to over 70°F, Historically the average is 59° as a high, with eight or nine days with some rain.

I will set up a blog soon I know weather across the whole of the med as I have been to many places over the years , we live in side just down coast of the antayla region, ithink end of February is best time to come the spring temps will be more stable than the cold days, more days 20c into march maybe same through march will be days 24c or 25c but it does feel hotter I must say the UV gets to really high levels like your burning just walking 20mins , april it starts to get quite hot 26c to 28c nights are warmer too probs around 17c ,then through the season it gets very very hot and the sea is like warm bath like when you run a bath with hot water then relize it is too hot then forget about it for 30mins that warm in the sea ,I think antayla and Cyprus have the warmest sea water in all the Mediterranean

Hey here just checking out new places for possible retirement living, my main concerns are getting my furr kitties over there safely and does online stores ship directly there like Chewy, Amazon, etc..
There is an Amazon option in Turkey but not everything is available.

No, because non citizens of Turkey have no permission to work there. So having a job as freelancer doesn't that you are breaking the law and you don't have to pay taxes
You’ll just be on a tourist visa for 1-2 years, not with a work permit. So you won’t be taxed.

She walked around looking for signs with a local resident, OK then contacted the person directly renting the apartment.

Antalya is definitely warmer. I honestly don't have the knowledge about the school systems. I suggest joining a FB group in Antalya and asking people with young children.

The Russians fleeing mobilization are disrupting the rental market in Antalya. Her rent is easily 5X more right now, so if she renews its going to be sticker shock. She isn't getting a bite to eat nowadays for 15 lira, at the moment even a soup is 40 lira. Kebab used to be 15, now some places ask for 80, prices are crazy right now because of inflation, currency devaluation and the influx of Russians.
We are definitely seeing an exponential increase in prices due to inflation. We will be doing updated videos soon on Antalya.

What is required when doing a short term apartment, condo etc. unsure to try out for 3 months living in Antalya before applying for a 1 yr residency

How renewing of the apartment lease for a long term works in Antalya? Lets say I find a perfect apartment and wish to stay there for at least 10 years....Thank you in advance.
I cannot really answer this question. We have not done this ourselves. Hopefully someone will read this and respond accordingly.
You basically make a contract with the owner/real estate agent as to your lease terms, when the time comes the contract ends you either renew it or continue living there without the contract but the owner can try to remove you at any point without contract but usually it auto renews.

I think 4500 lira rent for apartment here little too much if told that to Turkish they would say very expensive, the size I seen in side on a complex the same 2500 3000 lira little smaller 2000 ,antayla city nice but we like the quiet spots that why live in side, yeah the climate is fantastic anyone who thinks it is not have come at bad time from the end of February till end of November, even in December you can be on beach sunbathing August was 40c most days while spain was only 32c ans the sea is like warm bath, yeah been colder winter give it amonth spring will be like hot summers day like August for northern europe

Well everyone knows about the price increases now I wrote this months ago, now 4500 is good price but before past year you could get apartment for 2500 3000 lira, now people saying 7 to 9000 lira crazy price increases if anyone has a place maybe even if far from beach in cabin further inland in avsallar or alanya let me know for 4 5000
@@travelcats963 Yeah and 4500 is impossible now in Antalya, even in the not so nice inner areas : ) You're looking at 10-15k for furnished in the coastal areas.
How could 2 people on $1700 a month do? My wife and I are starting to look. We were thinking of Ecuador in a couple years with a little more money but could make something work now at that range and most likely go up another $100 a year and settle around $2500 a month in 5 to 7 years.
Currently you would be able to live very affluently with this amount in Turkey. Assuming you rent at $550 furnished, you’d have a hard time spending the rest of your $1,150 a month. Check out rents at sahibinden.com

What about the taxes do you pay taxes from usa fro your income? Or because you are resident in Turkey you pay to them?
If you earn income in Turkey you pay their tax. If you’re paid in the US from an employer or investment there you pay your tax there.
