Mark, your a 24 Carat diamond, you really are 👌. I said in my last comment to you that I was seriously looking at the XSR 700 and you said, yeah I’m test riding one I a few weeks. We’ll Mark, admittedly I have jumped the gun. Only last Thursday I went to see a dealer in Manchester UK that had both colours in stock and I had to have one, the historic white colour. Sat on it to get a good feel for the bike and suits me just fine, 57 years of age and I’m gonna have a blast on it. But anyway, I am so delighted you’ve got your review uploaded before I take delivery this Friday the 22nd, and your review is just what I expected from the best motorcycle reviewer on YT, excellent 👌. Mark, many many thanks from me for the outstanding reviews of motorcycles and giving a potential purchaser of such a good insight on what’s available 👍🏻. Apart from these two minor issues, I feel I’ve made a great choice in this model, it’s superb 👌
Yet again another outstanding review Mark. I've been looking at the Yamaha XSR700 but as a short guy I was unsure if it would fit. You are the only tester who demonstrates the fitment of the bikes they test. Keep them coming.
I just took this bike out today at a Yamaha demo event and you should definitely try it. You won’t be disappointed. I’m 5,7” and I have no problem with it. Then again I typically ride bigger bikes. I also took out the MT 10 and I currently ride a Z 900 RS café
Bike height is a non issue unless you're truly short. You don't need to be able to flat foot a bike with both feet. As long as you can get one foot down, you'll be fine. It's just like a kickstand.
I inherited my bike interest from my dad, he was building me a HDbobber but he passed away recently, its still in the progress. He always kind of liked the newer street style bikes also. 2 Weeks ago I got this bike for myself, cause of your video. Thanks a lot. /Hanna from Sweden.
I have the XTribute version of the XSR700 and love it, especially with the Akra pipe. Half of the pleasure riding any of Yamahas CP2 engine bikes is the sound with a decent pipe. The offbeat firing order/sound reminds me of old school Ducatis of the late 80's (851 & 888). Needless to say, an aftermarket can is a must to fully enjoy this machine. The bike has more than enough power to be engaging on UK roads (it'll do 100mph in less than 9 seconds) but also returns fantastic economy. I have seen 73mpg on mine in this recent hot weather. You would struggle to get 125's to achieve that level of economy 20 years ago!
Thanks...I was so impressed with this bike as as you said the sound is off the scale with the Akro full system.....I read that you don't need a remap with the Akro system when you decat it which is interesting....but I guess it would benefit even more Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 fueling not perfect. mine hunts around a bit particularly in 3rd gear mostly as it wasn't remapped when I put the high level Akra full system on. Must be running a bit lean but it's only a minor inconvenience.
A workmate has just bought one of these and I was admiring it in the bike park. Important to me is whether the pillion accommodation is comfortable, and whether you can fit luggage for a weekend away. My wife doesn't like bikes with a perch pillion pad. That narrows down the choice considerably.
So here in the US I went to a Yamaha demo event and started on the 2022 MT 10 and oh my god what a amazing machine. I then took out this bike, the XSR 700 and I was very impressed with it. Lots of low down torque and just a great power plant and great package all the way around. But that MT 10 is really making me want to trade in my Z 900 RS Café.
Just bought this bike and have to say its an absolute blast!! I'm 6'4'' and aside from the adventure type bikes I always feel cramped but the XSR feels perfect for me
It was on my shortlist along with the Kawasaki z650rs. I went with the Kawasaki and have no regrets, the performance is similar but the look of the z650rs won the day!
Hi Mark, I prefer this to the mt-07.. I love the retro styling, but what really did it for me has to be the exhaust... The exhaust sounds great!!.. I don't know whether it would have the same impact with the standard exhaust for me. To me the retro styling and the sound go hand in hand. Great reviews though Mark. 😊
Thanks Vince...I prefer this too I initially thought that exhaust was going to be too loud but after a while it just sounds so good ...but I guess most aftermath exhausts would sound great on it best regards mark
Mark, great review as always. You sold me on a Tracer 900GT. Thanks for so many great uploads. Watching from Chicago, Illinois! This bike sounds amazing with that exhaust!
This bike is in the news recently World wide ,it puts many more expensive machines to shame, going to try one tomorrow if it's good as it looks I'm spending some money.
32 degrees Celsius in England and you're still delivering a professional test. (Can't wait to pick up my XSR900 in September. Sold my Z650 in early July. Too early, I guess).
Great Bike! Love the CP2 engine Mark. Looks on the bike are great. Great review as always, thx. I owned a MT07 and found it to be very versatile and lovely to ride. Makes riding feel so easy because of the low weight and maneuverability. Now having fun on the Tracer 9 GT, another rocker from Yamaha.
Greetings from Tennessee, U.S. Great video, good informative review. Just wonder why you didn't mention the Trident when thinking of competition/comparison bikes? Hi Tony yes looking forward to reviewing the new hornet and gsxs,8 The hornet is coming in at £6999 here in the UK which is crazy good value ...yes re the trident 🔱...that one just slipped my mind at point of video speaking Best wishes mark
Thanks for your reply @Mark Pulling , I know the Hornet will be insanely economical to get but although my main attraction is for modern retros, I have to admit the Suzuki team really gott "the looks" right with the gxs s8. Briefly going back to the Trident, I think it looks the part and pricing is good however, the price increased about 5% which will push new buyers even further to wait for and consider the Hornet. Just from your bloody enjoyable review, I'm considering extending my budget upto the £8k. The XSR is my 1st choice of bike atm, however I really really like the Interceptor and 3rd is the CB650R. Whichever bike I get, it'll need an aftermarket exhaust but not sure I can justify the cost of an Akropovi¢. Many thanks.

G'day Mark from Australia, Yamaha have made some of the best bike and my favourite is the 1970s XS 650 the copy of the BSA 650 twin, this bike is a bit of a let down style wise, with the head light and single instrument it's unbalanced and the low slung exhaust looks like one bad bump and it's gone and that fly screen grill what's that about, rate it 6 out off 10, and the price is very high, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
@@norsehall309 I’m sure in Australia your still living in the 70’s, so guess you still have a B/W valve tv, not one of those flimsy flat screen tv’s 😂 Have a look at the Enfield interceptor, it’s right up your street. Very popular in the Uk as a lot of ale drinking old gits can’t bear the looks of modern bikes either.
Pretty hot up there in England too then at 32 Celsius!! Beautiful bike and great review as always 👍 PS is the exhaust a full exhaust? Sounds like it has no cat...
I'm considering getting my motorcycle license and have been narrowing my first bikes down. I like the look of this bike, also the Honda Rebel 500 (we are somewhat restricted here in NZ on the CC rating for learners) . Which would you bike guys recommend as a first bike for a complete novice? It takes 2 years from start to finish to get your full license here and I'd like something I can grow into a bit during that time.
Excellent review as always!!! thanx Mark!! Do you think this XSR700 is a beginner friendly motorcycle or more to go on the Suzuki SV650 (will be nice to see your review) or maybe the cb500x!? Ride safe and cheers
@@Motoristika haha that's a tough question...my favorites have been the tracer 9 gt... mt09 sp....KTM 890 duke ....but my royal Enfield hunter 350 is my favorite at the moment:)
A bike I have admired......for a few years without ever trying one out.Love the bark from the exhaust....I think I would have to put that after market can on. ....I have yet to see a bike in this range with good looking luggage ...I like to have abit of storage if I go out for along ride.
Respect for you doing a review in such unusually hot conditions for the UK. Sounds a great bike and looks fun, but I am thinking Kawa Z650RS or paying a little bit more for a Z900RS which changes the spec sheet substantially or indeed a KTM Duke 790, now 890 so significantly bigger and more powerful or indeed an MT-09 and if so how about an MT09 SP? Budget creep.
Thanks Alex ....I thought I'd go nice and early for it to be less hot ...no chance it was 30 c at 9 am lol Yes I guess for about that price bracket £8 k there are alot of very nice bikes to choose from... Cheers mark
This bike is seriously tempting. I'm interested to know how it compares against the Kawasaki z900rs and the Speed Twin - both of which are upwards of £3k more expensive, and I'd like opinions on if the extra cost is worth it?
The pick of the bunch is for me the Trident 660, the one I got. The Z650RS drove nice but the 2022 MT-07 was a very tiresome bike to drive. The Interceptor was better even the SV650 was better than the 07. Yamaha dropped the ball for me with this engine, it has not the feel that I always had with Yamaha over the years and I been driving them for 47 years as only the brand that I bought. Good review Mark.
I love mine 2023 plate. Suspension is quite firm (not squigey & no wallow) Its basic but does the job. At £6,495 new, ya can't go wrong. I put £7 of fuel in & 85mpg to boot. Yam how do you do it..😆
Thanks Mark, Another lovely Yamaha then. I think these parallel twins do benefit from the addition of an Akrapovic - if you like that sort of thing and Crescent can provide in my experience. If my 2nd bike wasn't an SV650s maybe I'd take a closer look, having had an MT03 until a year ago, which was really nice. Gold wheels look great and I appreciate the neutral seating stance and very good mpg. :>)
Hello Mark! Great video as always, I love your reviews! I'm actually pretty undecided between this XSR700 and a RE Continental GT 650 which I also saw your review. I know that they are very different motorcycles and whatever motorcycle I end up getting it will be my first one! I just wanted your opinion on this because I want a motorcycle that's really fun to ride (no need to be super fast) but I'm also considering reliability, quality and such. I would really appreciate your opinion on this. :) Greetings from Portugal! 🇵🇹
Hi diogo I'd go for the xsr as your first bike ...the continental is brilliant but it's got quite a racy position..you'd be better off with the Interceptor..but the xsr is lighter and has a brilliant fun engine Good luck let me know what you choose. Best wishes mark
Thanks for the video! I'm trying to decide between this one and the MT 07, but I think I'll go with the xsr 700 in white. One question, a lot of people complained about the stock seat, that is completely useless for a passenger. The optional seat that you got, it's better for a passenger? And confortable enough to travel a few hours without resting? Thanks you!
I wonder what's wrong at Yamaha these days with the 'clocks' they are fitting to bikes, this one is too small and off centred, on the MTO9 Tracer GT the split clocks look like a divers face, very off putting, Great review as always Mark.
Hi Mark. I know you have a tracer 9gt so quick question! Under current tfts I just can't accept the dual tfts the tracer has and as I was about to put my deposit on a tiger 900gt Pro I read an article about tracer 9 having an update for 2023 with radar cruise and a new tft. I'm gonna hold off until we see proper pics
@@markpulling12 thanks , sounds awesome. Done so much research on all bike in this category and i keep coming back to the xsr so I decided i will get one next year 😀
Any chain or drive line noise? I have a 2022 and it's driving me nuts 😡 adjusted and cleaned chain, and it's getter but still present, only goes mild when the bike is fully at operating temps 😩
Hi yes these are relatively small and light bikes and they can definitely be lowered with a simple kit ...it's not a big job or you can just get a low seat Best wishes mark
Hi Although much of the platform remains the same, the first thing you’ll notice is the updated appearance; the 2022 model has been given a new LED headlight design, new side covers, a revised cockpit layout in terms of both the dash and the switchgears and some glorious new colour schemes, inspired by the legendary RD350LC range. It’s not all about the style though as the 2022 XSR700 has also been given bigger front brake discs, revised front forks and Michelin Road 5 tyres, alongside a few little tweaks to Euro5 compliant, 74bhp, 689cc twin engine too Best wishes mark
Wayyy late to the party. Was this mapped ? The one I tried had a very choppy throttle at low revs. (My older tracer 9 is the same) You mentioned how smooth it was ? Also , how was the rear shock, I found it a bit boingy when moving on a bit. Looking to downsize, I find I’m only riding country lanes now.
@@markpulling12 looks like Yamaha may have sorted the fuelling then, that’s great to hear, it really was annoying on all their mt range. They weren’t alone on that front to be fair. Thanks for the review !
It’s probably been mapped to suit the exhaust because my 2022 MT07 isn’t “beautifully fuelled” as standard. The seat on the MT07 is shite, as is the front suspension. But it’s certainly fun to ride. NB there’s enough room under the seat for a box of matches but probably not a pack of ciggies.
Hi ...they are just a pair of generic ones I got from eBay a few years ago ...sorry I don't have a link But just eBay .... motorcycle camo trousers Best regards mark
All the years prior on the xsr have it center mounted. I test rode a 2018 before I bought this exact 2022 and I much prefer this forward off to the side position. You need to physically look down to see the center mounted one which to me is time that should be spent looking at the road vs. just a quick glance of the eyes with the side mount

I like the look of this bike, also the Honda Rebel 500 (we are somewhat restricted here in NZ on the CC rating for learners) . Which would you bike guys recommend as a first bike for a complete novice? It takes 2 years from start to finish to get your full license here and I'd like something I can grow into a bit during that time.
cb500f
Excellent review as always!!! thanx Mark!! Do you think this XSR700 is a beginner friendly motorcycle or more to go on the Suzuki SV650 (will be nice to see your review) or maybe the cb500x!? Ride safe and cheers
Hi I'd go for the xsr ....they are all great though:)
@@markpulling12 Can you tell your personal bike you have!? And thanx mark
@@Motoristika haha that's a tough question...my favorites have been the tracer 9 gt... mt09 sp....KTM 890 duke ....but my royal Enfield hunter 350 is my favorite at the moment:)
Thanks for this review, i am 5’6 31’ inseam and was wondering if i can reach the ground since they mayde this new model taller!
No you'll be fine with 31 inch inseam
These are great bikes 👍
Best wishes mark
Esse Tanque de combustivel e de metal ou plastico igual da MT07? E 14 litros? Tenho uma Z650RS cinza Saudacoes de Curitiba Brasil!
Hi it's metal best wishes mark
A bike I have admired......for a few years without ever trying one out.Love the bark from the exhaust....I think I would have to put that after market can on. ....I have yet to see a bike in this range with good looking luggage ...I like to have abit of storage if I go out for along ride.
Thanks mark yes I've never ridden the Cp2 with an open exhaust and it sounds fantastic 😊👍
I have Shad SR38 saddlebags on my 2020 Xsr700. Really nice looks.
Great review thank you 🙏
Respect for you doing a review in such unusually hot conditions for the UK.
Thanks Alex ....I thought I'd go nice and early for it to be less hot ...no chance it was 30 c at 9 am lol
Yes I guess for about that price bracket £8 k there are alot of very nice bikes to choose from...
Cheers mark
This might make me swop in my speed twin 👌😎🤔 nice review as always
Hi Mark great review as always, just wondering if you could do a review on the new Aprilia SRGT scooter if you can get your hands on one.
Ok I'll see if deardens have a demo
Thanks jay ...good choice with the trident :)
I have a 2017 fz07. I find it tiring to drive myself. Love the bike but love my z900 more!
Great vid as usual, does it feel a lot heavier that the mt07? Higher centre of gravity?
Hi Craig ...a tiny bit more but not worth worrying about
Cheers mark
I love mine 2023 plate.
Suspension is quite firm (not squigey & no wallow)
Its basic but does the job.
At £6,495 new, ya can't go wrong.
I put £7 of fuel in & 85mpg to boot.
Yam how do you do it..😆
Great review, can you tell me if the cat was removed ? and did it need remapping flash for that exhaust? 👍
Thanks Peter 😀
Hi Mark could you do a review on the new 2022 Zontes 310T2 Adventure bike please
Many thanks.
Yes John I'm sure I can get hold of one of those at some point
Greetings from Portugal! 🇵🇹
Hi diogo I'd go for the xsr as your first bike ...the continental is brilliant but it's got quite a racy position..you'd be better off with the Interceptor..but the xsr is lighter and has a brilliant fun engine
Good luck let me know what you choose.
Best wishes mark
Thanks Mark, I really appreciate your honesty!
Best wishes!
Wish this bike had twin clocks would buy one immediately
Thanks for the video! I'm trying to decide between this one and the MT 07, but I think I'll go with the xsr 700 in white. One question, a lot of people complained about the stock seat, that is completely useless for a passenger. The optional seat that you got, it's better for a passenger? And confortable enough to travel a few hours without resting? Thanks you!
Hi yes I found the seat to be comfortable for two hours on this
Cheers mark
The English accent is music to my ears 😂👏 absolutely beautiful
I wonder what's wrong at Yamaha these days with the 'clocks' they are fitting to bikes, this one is too small and off centred, on the MTO9 Tracer GT the split clocks look like a divers face, very off putting,
Great review as always Mark.
Nice review and excellent bike !
beautiful bike I want one
Ok Christopher that sounds great looking forward to seeing if it gets a different dash to mine :)
Would you classify this as a Heritage style or Retro ?
It’s sometimes hard to say what style these bikes are.
Hi Craig tricky choice but I'd call it heritage
Cheers mark
The standard seat look soooo much better
Mark, good fit for a first big bike? Good review. As usual... J
Yes James these can be restricted to a2 ....quite big for a first bike but just take it steady and get well trained cheers mark
@@markpulling12 I'm definitely going the progressive learning not the direct access route, training going really well.
@@jamesoreilly9223 great stuff James you'll love it .....I'm still riding after 35 years can't get enough:)
@@markpulling12 I wish I done it years ago. However the younger me wasn't quite as responsible so maybe now is the right time
Hi Mark, great video. Does XSR feel/look more plasticky/less expensive than Z650RS or is this just me?..
Hi no they are both similar quality and feel
Best regards mark
Have they addressed the rust issues?
"It sounds absolutely barking"
Great review. Can you tell me if the cat was removed? And did it need to be remapped for the exhaust?
Hi no it's just a slip on ...cat is still in so no remap needed :)
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 thanks , sounds awesome. Done so much research on all bike in this category and i keep coming back to the xsr so I decided i will get one next year 😀
The sound is very good👍
Excellent review and tutorial.
Glad it was helpful! Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 Oh it was... now I want one 😬.
Any chain or drive line noise? I have a 2022 and it's driving me nuts 😡 adjusted and cleaned chain, and it's getter but still present, only goes mild when the bike is fully at operating temps 😩
Mark, do you find it more comfortable and suitable for touring then the cb650r? Thank you my friend.
Hi id say they are both comfortable for touring best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 what about cbr500r vs cb650R what was more comfortable for you Mark? Thank you again
@@YungMerlyn the 650 was more comfortable:)
@@markpulling12 thank you Mark. You’re channel is the best. Awesome reviews and you ALWAYS respond to comments when I ask some questions. Cheers!
Great video! Is there a way to lower the bike? I'm a girl at 170cm (5.5 feet), and I really like this bike but wondering if I can handle it.
Hi yes these are relatively small and light bikes and they can definitely be lowered with a simple kit ...it's not a big job or you can just get a low seat
Best wishes mark
What is the model (maybe yamaha's serial number) of that seat?
Fancy one of these as a summer toy, how's the engine heat? 40degrees today!
Hi I didn't notice any engine heat even with today's temps ;)
I keep a 2018 as my summer communing bike specifically because of the engine heat from my other bike.
What's the difference between this new model and the older model aside from the new headlights?
Hi Although much of the platform remains the same, the first thing you’ll notice is the updated appearance; the 2022 model has been given a new LED headlight design, new side covers, a revised cockpit layout in terms of both the dash and the switchgears and some glorious new colour schemes, inspired by the legendary RD350LC range. It’s not all about the style though as the 2022 XSR700 has also been given bigger front brake discs, revised front forks and Michelin Road 5 tyres, alongside a few little tweaks to Euro5 compliant, 74bhp, 689cc twin engine too
Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 thanks for responding Mark! Can I also ask which one do you prefer? This new version or the older model
@@nojl461 hi they ride much the same ...id get a mint early model and save £££ best wishes mark
Hi no it wasn't mapped.... crescent don't bother ...but it ran perfectly
Great bike cheers mark
@@markpulling12 looks like Yamaha may have sorted the fuelling then, that’s great to hear, it really was annoying on all their mt range. They weren’t alone on that front to be fair. Thanks for the review !
It’s probably been mapped to suit the exhaust because my 2022 MT07 isn’t “beautifully fuelled” as standard. The seat on the MT07 is shite, as is the front suspension. But it’s certainly fun to ride. NB there’s enough room under the seat for a box of matches but probably not a pack of ciggies.
I have a 2022 Yamaha mt 07. I have a usb charger and a pack of cigarettes under the seat.
Hi Mark can you let me know what trousers they are and a possible link to buy? Thanks!
Hi ...they are just a pair of generic ones I got from eBay a few years ago ...sorry I don't have a link
But just eBay .... motorcycle camo trousers
Best regards mark
Very cool bike looks better than the 900 CP2 is the best
Lovely bike but spoilt I think with the dash which seems like an afterthought in the way its attached to the bike.
thanks ....fair point ...central would have made more sense to me :)
