Ross' JVB Moto Custom Yamaha XSR 700

  • After too many nights spent sleeping on the workshop floor and a near vertical learning curve from building his Cagiva flat tracker Ross decided that his next custom would be more of a bolt-on project.
Yamaha's highly accliamed XSR700 seemed the perfect place to start as he'd fallen in love with JVB Moto's Super 7 during the press launch in Sardinia.
The whole JVB kit and SC Project exhaust was fitted here in the Bike Shed after hours with a fairly basic tool kit.... no grinding, welding or messy stuff. If you can put together an Ikea Malm chest of drawers then the Super 7 kit is an easy weekend project.

Where does time go? I swear there’s a sinkhole somewhere or a Bermuda triangle that consumes my waking hours without receipt or acknowledgement. With our big show around the corner the calendar is marked by the first anniversary of me owning my first brand new motorcycle. So of course it’s been fully customised and I’ve rack-up 17,346 glorious miles of adventure.
    Have I bollox!
Straight after the XSR 700 launch in 2015 I was hounding Yamaha for a good deal on one - see original review here. At last year’s Bike Shed London show my prize was rolled off the truck and I began to imagine how good summer was going to be, customising and riding one of the best middle weight motorcycles ever made.
Hidden radiators with ducted cooling tracts, handmade aluminium or maybe carbon fuel cell covers and a fancy subframe - I was going to go to town and show these custom builders what a really good XSR looked like. Then I woke up and reality stepped in to shut me up. It’s all well and good fudging around on old shitters but this was a brand new bike and deserved a level of finesse that my diary or short attention span wouldn’t accommodate - a lack of decent workshop facilities provides a valid excuse too.
Bureaucracy also played a pivotal role in shattering my delusions of creative grandeur. As my XSR had been pre-registered abroad as a press vehicle the government agency (VOSA is now DVSA) here in the UK simply couldn’t cope. It was if I’d asked them to give me a numberplate for a North Korean Skud missile launcher. I won’t go into the details as it’d undo progress made in therapy sessions but suffice to say it took 7 months before I could properly own the bike..... more over on www.thebikeshed.cc

    Hi Ross,
First of all a lovely bike! I just received my Yamaha together and the Super-7 kit. Could you please give me a link or some guidance for how to paint the parts? Can I paint it right away or should it have some "pre-job" like a scrub with sand-paper, etc?
    Best

0:17 Broooo, why does it look so big there? All the other videos i seen, it looks tiny and small. So what gives? Is that legit size? Maybe dude is smaller then average size? But all other videos, seriously, the bike looks to small and so i had to pass on it. This video it looks huge and now i want to get it.

Sometimes I get so confused reading comments that I feel like there is a possibility I have some how been watching a different video then everyone else. Like the guy said a countless amount of times that it’s a kit he got. He did t design it he did t do an amazing job building it the dude didn’t even get to ride the thing before he ended up selling it. But yea totally great looking kit awesome simple understated cool kit. And then takin up a step with the ohlins shocks front and back some sticky nice tires and the great polished Finnish all tied in with the sc it’s so cool

I got mine the day it arrived. I dig the xsr900, but opted out for the 58mpg.
I still can't believe it took nearly 3 years before it came to the US, the Euros always get the goods.

    • @JohnConnor12
      @JohnConnor12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah, I was surprised it took as long as it did. I'm not in the market for a new bike this year, but I think I will pick up an XSR900 next year. I'm a big guy at 6'1" 220lbs and 900 just seems like it's more up my ally. I've been riding sport bikes for the last 10+ years and I think it's time for a slight change.

If your pillion is really slim... and a very close friend... or someone who you'd like to be closer to. Not sure on the pipe but they're fully EC friendly. www.sc-project.com/yamaha_xsr700_e.htm

Personally I like the somewhat bare bones look of the bike. Back to the street fighter minimalist design. If I wanted a bunch of covers I'd have done an MT07.

I love what you did with the bike! I purchased this kit recently and I was hoping you could give me some insight on how you mounted the license plate holder underneath the rear fender? You mentioned in your blog that you "bent the mount flat and used a very thin aluminium plate, curved slightly and positioned it below." Would you happen to have any pictures of the rig or could you explain in a bit more detail on how this was accomplished? Thanks you so much Ross!

Bruce Wee Hi. Did you manage to fix the licence plate holder just like Ross did?
I am trying to do the same in my Xsr.
      All best

@@davecomplin4089 Hi David, I have inverted the holding piece,
and placed it under the rear fender instead. then, I used 2 bolts to fix it.
