  • I ordered an engine from JDM Engine Depot for my Toyota Tacoma and it was junk. I tried to get them to do something but they wouldn't respond. I made the mistake of not reading the reviews from other customers who had also been scammed. Next time I'll check Yelp. This is my video review of that motor. #JDMEngineDepot

    Sorry about your situation. Thanks for sharing your story. Good luck. Too bad we aren’t neighbors, I have 99 Tacoma Engine on my garage floor, I’m looking to get rid of. Came out of my nephews truck. Was going to use in my 99 4runnner but realized not really the same, could be a harness headache. I did take the supercharger from it. Again, man sorry to hear. Business should have more integrity.

      Yea, I got a laugh when they sent me an email today saying it was from a pressure washer. Bull Pucky. This motors been under water. I’m taking my Geiger counter out tomorrow to see if it’s radioactive. The dumb shits in the email even said the flywheel might be the problem. They’re faking like they haven’t seen this video. A full week of no correspondence from them after I send them a handful of emails. Bull pucky. I’m looking for someone that can do the heads but I’ll have to go to Albuquerque to find one. Right now it’s looking like it will be cheaper just to repair the motor in the truck when it will be to fix this one.

    I bought an engine from them last year around september and when I received it if was completely flooded with sea water. The oil pan was missing the drain bolt and the entire oiling ports / passages were compromised with water. When I started tearing into and removed the pistons holy smokes every single piston ring was seized and rusted. I ended up just doing an entire rebuild on it since i'm from texas and from watching your videos there was no way on earth they would warranty it since I am not a shop nor a certified mechanic in their quote on quote warranty policy. its a damn shame they get away with this kind of crap..

    Thanks man! I was going to buy a jdm 3.4 from a different source but after seeing so many bad ones I think I'll go a different route. If I'm going to rebuild one id rather pay less for a salvage yard motor. Sucks because I've bought several jdm honda motors and they have all been great! Got one that's been running strong for 5 years no problems and the inside of the motor was clean as a whistle looked brand new!

    Sorry to hear🫤 My story was buying a Honda engine here in southern CA; they let you select it, inspect it, comp. check it & then have it personally delivered to your mechanic in town. What's strange is that they're not too far from him but took "hours" to deliver it after I watched'm set it into a simple pickup truck in front of me & take off to my mechanic. Suspicious at best but my guess was they came back & switched it out for old stock... sneaky people "pretty sure that motor wasn't mine🤔"

    I had ordered a 2.7 L 3RZ from them and I found everything was cut. That means that either come out of a wreck or a totaled car. The only reason I kept it because of the wires were still pliable and bendable. That means it was a lot newer than my engine.

      I just this week had to use a part off the JDM on my truck. One of my coil packs went bad so I used the JDM. That was the first part I used off of it. The rest is setting in my shop taking up space,
      Make sure yours will rotate without any resistance other than compression. Look at the mounting bolts areas around the tail for any cracks or breaks. Pull the plugs and rotate it a few times also. Drain any oil and look close at it. One of the more common complaints I've heard or read about is damaged bell housing tabs, where the transmission mounts up. Good Luck.

  • @rschilling78
    @rschilling78 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    These companies can rarely guarantee these JDM engines are good to run. Get the motor as cheap as you can where ever you can as long as it’s not seized. Just plan for the rebuild if you want to keep the vehicle a long time and the motor will be good as new if done right.

    I knew that sounded familiar almost got screwed by them, they shipped me an engine and at the back, where it contains a dowel pin to line up to the bellhousing was snapped off missing the dowel pin and chunk of metal that holds it. Broken physically off the block probably from improper moving/loading with a forklift. I had a hunch that something was going to be wrong.
    So before they delivered it and i would have to eat the cost, i went to the warehouse in houston it was due to ship out of to my house after arriving from new jersey to look at it in person and before i signed the paper, i noticed a broken chunk off the block and refused delivery so they had to pay for return shipping on there own dime.
    Then they claimed they had another jdm engine to send me so they wouldnt have to cancel the order and all they sent me was a picture of a dirty engine with the valve cover off i was pissed, a low mile jdm engine should have never had the valve cover off yet,
    so i went ahead and told them to cancel the order over the phone and they acted like they were upset. F them, how are you gonna just send me a picture of the head of an engine with the valve cover off and think thats acceptable jdm low mile engine picture after trying to pull a fast one with a broken engine block.

    • @sandab767
      @sandab767 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On an unrelated issue months later, some mechanics forgot to put the half moon back in with the valve cover gasket on my dads 5vz 4runner and it, gernaded the engine, i tried to locate a 5vz to swap it with which looked externally like it sat at the bottom of the ocean which initially i didnt notice and after over a week of blood sweat and tears and that engine only ran on starting fluid and i was pissed it was so rusty among other thingsi just cut my losses probably 1500 to 2k on that and just sold the beloved 4runner.

      JDM sellers always claim their engines have “approx. 80K miles, or 100K miles, or even just low mileage”, etc… They virtually never state the actual mileage, and there’s simply no good reason for that, except that it’s a scam. If they can’t even take 2 seconds to snap a pic of the odometer (or even at least write it down to record it) before they spend hours removing the engine, then it’s pretty much guaranteed it has WAY more mileage than what they’re claiming. They simply know most people will never even try to verify it.
      Think about where someone would even possibly find so many 20-25 year old+ engines with less than 100K, haha. Most have 200-300K+ on them at this point, 2 or 3 decades after being manufactured. People say it’s because Japan charges extra tax on vehicles with over 100K, but the vast majority of 3.4s would’ve been crossing 100K about 15 years ago. There is absolutely no way in hell thousands and thousands of 20-some year old 3.4s just keep coming over from Japan with only 80-100K on them. I am 110% convinced almost every JDM 3.4 out there is just an old tired POS. You’re way better off rebuilding the engine you already have.

    Did you not pay with a credit card? eBay buyer protection? I went to their warehouse in 2015. They bid on these motors overseas. I believe these guys lowball on the crappiest looking ones and hope for the best. They ones I saw looked like they were sitting outside for a significant period of time and the salesman was pushy as hell, so I left. Btw, junkyards in murica cut harnesses and lines all day long. It wouldn’t make a difference to you because that harness will not work on your truck period. These are HiAce engines and the damage from Fukushima 10 years later would look worse than that.

    • @timsvids5983
      @timsvids5983  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea, we bought direct, went through the credit card company and stopped payment. The credit card company ended up giving them the money because ‘we accepted the shipment’. How can you see inside the motor when they dropped it off? The other problem was we weren’t there when it was dropped off. Im a retired ase master mechanic and theres no way to tell theres an issue with a motor on delivery. But usually a seller stands behind the motor, these people don’t. They know the motors have issues when they send them but their warrantee is written in such a way that it covers them, not the buyer. Theres no way anyone is going to get all or any of their money back.

That place was/is shady as hell, but they honestly all are. I’ve gotten an excellent JDM engine but I inspected in person. It was JDM Engine Zone in Clifton NJ. That being said, I’ve heard nightmares from them too. I’ve even received engines with cracked blocks that were spray painted over from LKQ. Engines are one of these things I will only buy in person.

Sue for the cost of the engine and shipping, make them pay our legal fees, travel costs time and effort as a mechanic to diagnose the problem, storage for the motor. The cost would be high for them but. We just didn’t. We will just keep putting out the word. It hits them in the pocket book every time someone sees this video.

  • @andrewm4335

    Assuming that you paid by a credit card. Since the motor is not as advertised you legally can reverse ALL charges. The credit card company will request proof that the motor is bad, and this video would more than suffice.
    If JDM wants to try and state charges are legitimate, then they will need to answer for their garbage engine.

    Correct me if I am wrong , if you are a master mechanic, how the hell you bought a motor from this company or a junk yard and expect a good motor . My “ mechanic “ bought me a 3400 Toyota motor with unknown miles for over $700 , I trusted him but brought me a piece of shit , but I planned to changed head gaskets , oil pan gasket , water pump , timing belt and maybe have the bottom and top end check by a pro like you before I put it in my truck .

    • @timsvids5983
      @timsvids5983  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pretty much the same. I planned on doing all the above oil pump and all. I still have the parts and may eventually rebuild it. Problem is the heads. It well take new heads. They are too far gone. It may need bored. The only part that don’t seem to have serious damage is the crank. There was no intention of installing it as is. If someone bought one of these that actually ran id suggest at minimum doing the belt and water pump.
