Maybe it's been addressed in a newer video, but what are your plans for that 3.4? Save it for another swap, sell, keep as a spare? I really like it's a real cable throttle. Maybe I'm just romanticizing, but I like how much simpler that double cab is. I almost bought an 04 back in 05 when I wrecked my 99 f150. Wish I did, I'm sure I'd still have it, but I do like the 4th gen 4Runner I have now.
When I was in the army, my unit bought a fleet of 02's, maybe 01's to take to Afghanistan. They got modded with gun mounts and painted flat tan. Only problem was they were cramped when you had dudes with full battle rattle in them.

Is that a hoist/crane on your back wall? I have been wanting to put one in my shop to help pick up just about everything. I use a wheelchair and am getting older and need more gadgets to pick stuff up. If it is one, is it hooked to the wall or in the ground or both. I am going to get some 3/16 plate this week and will use my engine hoist, but would like to build a crane that moves in a pretty good arc. Truck is coming right along! I know it will slow doing the swap, but you've done it before so you'll get it!

the cams are an inherently weak design with only 2/3 the lobe width of the older VE engines. So even running a good 5w40 they can hole lifters. Whatever you do, do not run the vw 505.1 spec oil. Makes the problem worse. I use rotella t6 5w40 or fuchs 5w40. BTW my 05 golf PD TDI has 414k miles with original cam still in good shape. Luck more than oil i guess as the P.O. ran whatever synthetic was on sale.
