    What are your thoughts on - if I keep the oil filter easy change - but use a siphon to remove the old oil from oil check port each time I do oil change ? And then add equivalent 1.2 qrts with a new .8 qrt easy oil filter

      My opinion, you will not get all of the oil out and you are still paying $50 plus for the easy change oil filter plus extra oil. I made another video using the John Deere parts and it should be easier to change over. Check this video out. th-cam.com/video/IzgsX3IHbEg/w-d-xo.html.

    Can't believe J. D. Pull a piece crapp like that on these mowers. I guess it's their way of generating engine trouble down the road for customers thus increasing engine and parts sells. Think I will look at different brand of mowers. Great video a true craftsman.

    Very informative, I played back several times to install my kit. By the way that plastic cover on the new drain plug can pull right off, there is an oring in there. Then use a tall 15/16 socket . I purchased the whole kit from Amazon which also included a filter. Thanks for great info.

    A very well done and well presented instructional video! I just ordered the parts which basically came out to the cost of one of the 30 second oil change filters. (Oil not included). I have an E120 JD and I’ve always been a bit skeptical of their fast and easy oil change system. Once you see how much old oil that is left in the crankcase, this change-out is a no brainer! It is very important to replace all the oil and the oil filter no matter how you do it. Changing only part of the oil is like only cleaning part of a dirty dish. Would you want a dishwasher that that leaves over half of the food and grime on your dishes? Gross! Partially clean is still dirty.

    I just performed this conversion. I recommend using the Deere parts. The nipple replacement for the filter with the Deere part number has a 12mm hex form making that installation much easier than shown in the video. Also, the quick release drain extension with the Deere part number puts the hex head out near the end, allowing the use of a 24mm standard socket and easy installation. Also, running the engine first, makes any oil change much easier, as the oil is thin, and doesn't take near as long to drain (same goes for bottling honey, by the way).

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree about using the John Deere parts. I did this video before I new about the parts from John Deere. I always run the machines before performing any oil change. NOT when filming a video as shown. Thanks for watching!

Unfortunately most of us do not want to or do not have the extra $ to invest in a higher end machine. You can purchase the John Deere without the quick change oil filter. My opinion is the John Deere are still made by John Deere and if you can afford a X300 series? They will last a long time. Cub Cadet was purchased from MTD many years ago and the quality has suffered since. Cub Cadet tractors produced today are getting better but I still prefer John Deere. That is just my opinion.

    For the nipple, could you install it on the oil filter first, then use that to thread the nipple to the engine? Once the red loctite is cured the nipple will stay in place when removing the filter.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do it the way there are no issues. I would just worry that the loctite would get on the oil filter and you would have issues getting the oil filter off or it would take the fitting out with it.

    For the most part, I despise those pipe plugs for oil draining. They're an old design for using a crescent wrench...which you practically can never get to on a mower. My LA130 already has an extended drain, but the mower that didn't I just installed a 6 inch long 3/4" pipe nipple and sealed it off with a pipe cap. Seriously, who wants motor oil running all over their mower frame??

    That easy change system is a rip off, its 50 bucks. When two quarts of oil and a filter is like 20 bucks and changes the whole amount of oil. It's almost like they want it to fail. They also put 10w30 in those transaxles which gives it a life of about 200-300 hours. If you change the oil to mobil 1 15w50 from day 1 it will last double that possibly more. Nothing more important than oil in these things.

    It can't be good for the engine to have that old oil in it for so long. John Deere is just banking on people's laziness and ignorance to have something like this on their equipment.

    • @sptrader6316
      @sptrader6316 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think JD saw that most people ignore the recommended oil change intervals, so they came up with the "quick and easy" filter change so even lazy people would at least change a portion of the oil and the oversized filter, would help clean the oil. After seeing how much oil is left, I'm going to go back to the traditional oil change method with synthetic oil. I wonder if we can get an oversized oil filter for it, like the easy change filter. (that size). The easy change JD filter is super fast and easy to change, but I'm not going to risk a large investment with old oil. My engine only has 40 hrs on it and the oil is still clean (after 2 quick change filters), so I hope I caught it in time, to save the engine from unnecessary wear.
