This is actually a really interesting video from a scientific standpoint. Unlike normal ocean waves, which can be powerful but have very little directional flow, these tidal waves actually displace a massive amount of water in one direction. This leads to the incoming water forming such a consistent and wide break that it functions as a different state of matter (a colloid, in this case liquid foam), and moves separately from the water underneath. You can see this really well starting around 10:41.
haha that psyched older gentleman looks over and is like yoooo Jamie O'Brien WTF hahahahaha.
Jamie’s gonna keep this channel until he is 80 years old and he will be still psyching. JOB on course to win the internet lifetime achievement award.
That goes way past surfing a novelty wave..... surfing the tide ..... the force of the moon dragging the ocean and you along with it.... Just insane. Thanks for bringing us along . totally unique and super cool to see!
TA Surf company, here I come 🌊🌊🌊🤙🏼😎
Just booked my bore tide sesh for next month !
This is such a sick video! Love that all those groups got to get up and surf with you! Would be amazing to pop up on a wave and see JOB lol
Thank you! It was a crazy surfing experience for sure
Not only was that a great ride but the scenery was so beautiful.
Just watched this again. Needed a mental lift. Dude, JOB always delivers
Lived in AK for 8 years and never knew this was a thing! Awesome video! Love that place.
If you want to hit the biggest tides, come to the bay of Fundy in eastern Canada!
Yeah!!! I'm in the middle of reading a book about that place! CRAZY!!! 🤯
try out running the tidal bore to Moncton on the shore
That was awesome. Keep em coming Jaimie.
Men
Dude’s biz is about to explode. Jamie, send him some gear. 🍻
The sadness knowing I live an hour south of here and missed THE J.O.B in Alaska 😅 not everyday we get a world class surfer on the arm!
Aww bummer I missed you
Shows some real resilience to still find something to film even after all your plans go up in smoke. JOB is mega.
That was so sick Jamie & Co. Psyching on the vid after work. Yessah!!🤙🏼
Great instruction from the local who's knows exactly what to do.
I used to live in this area of Alaska. I literally smiled through this entire video. ❤️
Dang brother ! That was such a nice trip, big one too, having a local legend to guide you thru everything, man ! life is good hey?
Jamie ride that thing for 23 days straight goddam that was long & nice to witness
YEEW 🤙
Sick! 🤙 That guy is going to be booked up if he is not already......
This was amazing, that 20 min wave is one of the coolest things ever!
Great vid. Was your guide 6’8?? Dude is a giant!
What a precious gift surfing is, in all its myriad of forms. Life-changing, and universe-changing experience…🌊🏄♂️🏄♀️🏄💥🗻🏔️⛰️🌊❤
One of my favourite videos of yours Jamie! Probably because this is something I would actually enjoy doing. I can't even imagine what it's like paddling out at pipe.
That was a fun episode to watch.
Definitely one of the cooler things I've seen in a while. Thanks!
note to Billy: have time stamp in small in lower corner for duration of tidal bore ride ;)
where is gravy?
Totaly awesome, psyched outta my mind...what a wave and a treat for the locals to meet an O.G!
If Laird shows up with a foil to ride this, I'm leavin'.
Lard and his mf tron boots, strap on crew 🤥🤡
@@ryanlocati5695jamie is more of a clown that laird ever was. Fucking hilarious comment
@@Swordofmichael333 Laird is a backpaddling wave hog (from personal experience). Haven't been in the water with JOB yet, but I'm willing to bet he has more aloha than Laird.
Awesome. Ben Gravy would be proud 🤙🏽
Cool how the seagulls were following along too.
That was awesome 🎉 You guys reminded me of when I was ten , boogie boarding. Laughing with people is what this world needs. Subscribed.🙂
I could see Jamie riding that bore all the way until it bounced off the mountain in the background. Great ride Jamie, or is it huff and puff right now? Great film dude.
Wow, amazing and very crazy video. Stoked 🤙🏽 I know you’ve traveled all over the world, United States primarily and for us in Hawaii, but why is it called riptide in the US however us in Hawaii call it under tow.
I beg to differ! Mr. Gravy accomplished this feat no more than a year ago, Shooter O'Brien. 😂🤙🏻🌊🍍
Dylan Graves filmed well before Mr. Gravy
@@jonlewis8417 you missed the joke entirely
I wonder if it'd be a wise decision to flow the guy a few soft tops and wet suits for some cross promotion.
what beautiful footage - truly incredible endless backgrounds and perfect partially cloudy skies set smack dab in the middle of nowhere... surf on & stay psyched!! :D
Need a jet ski out in front looking back at you! What a thrill ride!🤙
That was incredible!
That was…the best! I lived in Anchorage but I’ve never seen the Bore. You guys made it look awesome, scary and i was panting too!
Awesome! Love love LOVVVVVE Anchorage, as much as North Shore Oahu! That's so awesome y'all went! Turnagain Arm tidal bores are amazing to see🤘🏾🤙🏾
Have been to up to Anchorage and out to Oahu muchas regularly these past 2 years!🤘🏾🤙🏾
Yooo love the vids brother
Kodiak Island - Pasagshak Bay was a surfing destination back when I lived in Alaska in the 80's
Always fun to see people playin in the bore tide when driving by...
Awesome content as always
That looks absolutely magical
Your editing is awesome
That wave would be so sick on my 12' Munoz Ultraglide. Riding for days!
Oh my gosh, how cool is this wave?!?! 💜
That was very cool!
Hopefully you got to enjoy some razor clams during that tide in Turnagain
Ive seen the wave from the highway there, so sick to see the highway from the wave! Stoked!
You gotta try it!
1:45 fun fact in that earthquake an island near that rose 15 feet out of the ocean in seconds and doubled the size of the island.
Sick vid! 🤙
Dang that was a 3 mile Tina size waves. She should’ve been there. She would’ve smoked everybody. Looks like so much fun I wanna go try it.
Sneak attack on the locals! So much psyching goin’ on! Classic!
Oh, Turnigan arm. I helped some stranded beluga whales with some other bystanders on my way to Seward Alaska.
Yep. Thats awesome.
Yes! Took that wave and ended up in Idaho! Nice!
Ayye shoutout from Anchorage, Alaska! wooh!!!
Pretty Cool
That was crazy bruh❣️🏄🙏
Would love a version of the ride w no music, just the experience, great stuff job
❤Absolutely stunning! Insane!!
this should win an oscar for best ride ever, psyched.
That was so sick!!
Really Jamie, we know your in Alaska to join the Gold Rush 🥇 That was cool, definitely looked like a lot of hard work to stay on that wave, like skiing down a long run I could feel my quads burning just watching you 👍👍😎
O'Brien, that was fn epic!!!!
When I lived in Anchorage turinagin arm killed someone windsurfing, canoeing, hiking. The issue is fast moving tides on top ultra fine silt that holds you in place, fills and weighs any cloth, or quicksand on top of tides rising a foot a minute.
Yeah, it’s definitely no joke! Crazy tides
11:11 what a killer experience to ride a tidal surge
Come back up and go Kiteboarding/Kitesurfing in the same spot.
Epic as always.
totally jazzed! some sick pits brah!
No tubes bro haha
Epic ride❤
Now that's a party wave.
So awesome
that looks cold
I'm wondering if you could wakeboard that wave using a sea anchor looks like a parachute underwater and a buoy to keep it just below the water attached to a ski rope . The water current seems fast enough you just have to figure out what contraption will pull you
For the novelty.
13:15 Love it!
I don’t surf, but the guys in this vid should look up the Severn Bore in the UK. Not sure how it compares with this Alaskan wave, but might be another opportunity.
another epic trip 🙌🏽
Good times
Jamie, I have an ideal. Anyone that lives on or (I guess) close, but not the same. Make a list of crazy or love stuff, and so on. Complete and if recorded on tape with a cool story. How and why, you are where you are today. Thanks for listening and think your drop ins at pipeline are psyching.
Shout out to Pete!!!
Great music. Who is the artist?
Awesome
Nice!
Wonder if they've done the 52' Bay of Fundy tidal bore
Hey Jamie I’m coming to Hawaii the north shore on Monday I was wondering if I could meet you also sorry to hear about Tamoyo perry
Dude smoking to much Alaskan thunder fuck 😂😂
you need to surf the Pororoca’s wave in Brasil!!!
35 foot in the title is very misleading. That wave looked like it was about 13 inches tall. Pretty hard-core 😂
This is the Alaska version of backwash at pipe
You know you have had too many epic barrels in your life when you choose to go to Alaska instead of pumping indo😂😂
yew it must be cold but not for a legend like J.O.B
radical!
Jamie O´bruien alias beluga psyched!!...
how do you find about this stuff?
so psyched
Stopped there and read the same signs about bulga whales. Had no idea about the wave..
