Oh My. I have been using Affinity since it was Serif. Actually it first was Aldus PageMaker. I use all 3 Affinity products. After finding your channel here, I now know about KDP. I am working on a 6 x 9 keepsake calendar with a vintage women's fashion theme. I am just trying to unwrap my brain for the interior since it has different pages throughout it. I keep overthinking it because I keep reverting back to the old printing press layouts. I just always over think things in general. Masking has been my new favorite toy since I figured it out. Love cleaning up the vintage photos with Photo. Publisher works for interior pages too. Okay I need to stop here before I write a little book here. Thank you for all the teaching.
Actually I think u can take the colour out of an image in prep for colouring bk. Think I've seen Rachel Harrison Sund do it. I bought all 3 affinity siute programmes - publisher, designer and photo when they launched, it was 25$ per program. I have no experience in designing etc at all. But I am getting on with it . Normal price is 50$ not sure how long the covid offer is for. U can go between all three easily by clicking the various buttons top left thus accesding all 3 tool sets. It's just gr8. I'm so glad u mentioned it as an alternative. Look 4ward to your videos. I always learn so much. Thank you. I appreciate your dedication. - Oh one more thingg. U get free updates for life. ( hope that is still correct ) if purchased direct from the company.
This software looks awesome, it’s currently 50% off on the APP store for iPad. I took the plunge and bought it. I’ve binged watched your videos this weekend and made my first plain journal with one of my designs. I’ll see if it gets accepted in the next few days I guess. The make it and let it go piece of advice you gave is a good one as I do tend to obsess a little. Also it’s so true, you need to put some time, effort and do your research, very important. It took 5 months before I sold my first first design on Redbubble, you just need to keep going. Thanks Paul for all your well thought out videos, you make a great teacher.

Affinity products kick butt. One thing though, Affinity Photo is the competiton to Adobe Photoshop, not Lightroom. Lightroom is for photographers. It's specifically used to edit photographs. That's it. No text tool. No erasers, lassos, etc.
Nice video. Was looking at it for the ipad. CorelDraw will do all the same things (vector / raster / trace ) if anyone has that already and it works amazingly. But it was expensive and now they move to subscriptions too. Affinity on Ipad is kind of a game changer especially if you also work with Procreate or Sketchbook Pro.
I’ve had all three for a while now, shame they have not done a version of their old product movie plus. That preferences tip will save me a lot of the frustration I’ve been having cheers Paul.
Totally agree with this. I have all three bought at half price over the past couple of years. Unless you can get the student rate from Adobe I recommend Affinity products.

Yes it’s useful. It has a completely different purpose to designer. It is used to put all your pages together into a book. I don’t use it however, I put my pages together in Keynote or Powerpoint.

I think I might switch from Canva to Affinity. I’ve published several books now and I have ordered all the books to inspect the quality. Every single book I’ve made the quality of the images were all blurry including some text. Online they looked really nice and not blurry. In Canva I downloaded it as png because it was suggested and it says high quality images. I have also downloaded it as pdf print (also high quality, multi-page document) not sure what I’m doing wrong. Any suggestions?

Dr Paul i have an inquiry concerned with amazon algorithms in keyword search, if my title is for an instance (Egyptian cats colouring book ) which is the same as the keyword suggested by amazon, there are competitors for this keyword also with huge amount of sales but some of them don't have the same title name related to the keyword, in case of i started running ads for this book, for whom the priority will be to rank at the top search of the first page ? for my book in case i started getting some sales or for the old books which have huge amount of sales and reviews but their title aren't relevant to this keyword ?.Thanks in advance.
With ads you’re book will rank according to your bid price. For organic sales preference will be given to books with reviews and sales even but you will still get benefit from the keyword title. So you may not need as many sales or reviews to rank higher.
U might try affinity publisher from the same company, its literally one click to go from one program to another, otherwise what i used to do is export as pdf or png and use them on indisign
I think there is another huge minus of Affinity. I'm just started using it but I noticed it doesn't allow you to simply edit/modify a text, it vectorizes everything. I understand other programs don't do that and they let you simply edit the text. Paul, do you think there could be a easy work-around to this issue?

You don’t have to register your artwork with the US Copyright Office. But if you do, you can then go after monetary damages if your art is stolen and used. Otherwise, the “automatic copyright” you have when you create artwork doesn’t really offer you much actual protection. You can send a "cease and desist" type letter demanding that your stolen artwork stop being used by the thief, but they would probably just ignore it.

A very good video like always. For the beginners like me, could you tell us what kind of books would you publish first if you started publishing on KDP today with the experience that you have now?
Maybe its just me but I cannot get my head around vector drawing at all, and AD on the ipad which I bought recently is making me incredibly frustrated. I'm familiar with Photoshop and Procreate and have no issues with them, but AD is like trying to learn Chinese to me. The icons are so small and there is so little contrast that I can barely see them, never mind understand what they do, and when I make a mistake, which is pretty much instantly, it's very hard to correct and I have to start again from scratch. I've tried lots of tutorials but after about two minutes I lose the will to live. Its a shame because I would love to master it but I'm about ready to throw my ipad through the window.

I am just starting KDP myself and after looking at most your videos I couldn't find a step by step tutorial for creating a journal (gratitude journal, prayer journal etc.) interior but maybe I missed it, let me know if you already have a video on this you would recommend! I tried creating one in Illustrator with Creative Fabrica material but I feel it takes me ages since I am quite a newbie hahaha Oh and also, I see a lot of book mockups on Amazon for KDP books and I always wonder where those publishers get them from.. any suggestions?
Try creative fabrics for interiors. And bookbird. Has several good free templates. Save yourself the time and trouble at the beginning of creating the templates yourself.

Thank you. Yes you can take the color out but needs to be transformed into a vector first if it’s a raster image.

You can trace on affinity designer manually by using pen tool. It obviously takes longer than photoshop.

Did you already try the new V2 of Affinity tools? Do you think they are worth the upgrade for creating books and covers?
I've not tried it yet. from what I can see, I don't think upgrading from the current version will give an great benefots for creating book covers.

No they don’t. You can do it for educational items on Amazon Ignite but only if you’re a US resident.

There is no video on that - it’s your Unique Tax Reference number or UTR on your tax return.

Covers should be downloaded as a pdf. Can’t really tell from the information you’ve given what you are doing wrong. I recommend Affinity though.

For KDP? No, it's against Amazon's TOS.

It's probably more suited to a desktop. I've not used it on an ipad but I can imagine it's problematic.

No, that wasn't image trace. Image trace is converting a raster image to a vector image.
