    Paul, Thank You!! I first saw your channel 3 weeks ago. I still cannot put a dashed line around a graphic ;) but I watched enough of your videos to figure out how to assemble a Scissor Skills book. It is currently uploading. I spent at least 50 hours creating it and it was FUN!! I noticed one author uploaded 10 Scissor skills books on March 4th. I wonder if your video was their motivation too. I am not a rabbit but a turtle;) and Quality to me counts over quantity. I set myself a two year goal. You are 100 percent the spark that started this new adventure. THANK YOU 😊

      I was thinking the same. In Illustrator you would do this: 1) copy and combine all shapes into one shape which will give you an outline. 2) go to Object> Path> Offset path.... and input a positive number. 3) change the line to a dashed line.

    Paul, in Affinity, look for a function called "Offset Path" or something similar to it. You can save time by outlining your object and then offsetting the path to make the dashed line. I don't know Affinity at all but I am getting tired of paying 24.00 US per month to Adobe so I will look into it!

    • @1Lovelife11
      @1Lovelife11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the one thing I wish affinity had. As far as I’ve found they don’t have a “path” function. I was looking for it to make connect the dots easily, but in the forums I found other people saying affinity doesn’t have it. Maybe in the future they will as they do update a lot. I have all the affinity products.. closest is in publisher you can make a dotted or dashed lines with their basic shapes tool, but not from a file/picture of any kind.

    • @BirgitOlzem
      @BirgitOlzem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Mark Take a look into Affinity Designer 1.9 which has now the „contour tool“ which comes pretty near to „offset path“. Duplicte a shape you want to have a cut out line around and set a contour radius with an dotted outline.

    Hey so I sold a book like 3 times a month, but then I didn’t sell it anymore for the next month and then I sold it once the next month after that ... it is not stable :(

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But that will happen with low sale numbers. You can vary between a few and zero quite normally. The same as if you’re selling 1000 one month you can go down to half that or less the next month and then pick up the next. The way to overcome the variability is to create more books and give it time. It can sometimes take months for a book to build up traction.

      One thing you might mention sometime is about the difference between linked and embedded images. I learned a very hard lesson to use embedded! My files were linked and then some how- God only knows- the file got deleted from my Dropbox and therefore the whole book I had spent weeks modifying couldn't be exported- it said files missing. What's worse is that I couldn't remember where I bought the files from so I couldn't just re- download them. Weeks of work gone. SO-2 lessons- 1. embed the files, and 2. keep a spreadsheet of everything I buy and where I bought it from!!

    Hello Paul,
    I love your videos. Thank you for sharing your experiences, and making it more simple than it looks! I was wondering if the subscription option for Creative Fabrica should be only Graphics for KDP or the even fonts or the whole package?
    Thanks,
    Amy.

      Creative Fabrica have a few different subscription packages. Depending on what you need. I use mine mainly for the graphics but I have the whole package in case I want fonts.

    If I downloaded an image from free website and it had been used for the same purpose ( kdp coloring book) by some one. Now is it good to go?

    I just wonder that if this is so simple and successful and thousands of viewers follow the instructions and publish their books, wouldn't that flood the market, increase the competition, and therefore reduce sales for individuals? My view is that if it looks too good to be true, it usually is. In all the comments to the different videos, I have not seen any reports of increased sales for those who have followed the techniques shown on the set of videos. Good advertisements for the commercial software for creating the books, and if the guy has an affiliate link to this commercial software and is making some money off it, then he can be compared to the owner of the general store in the goldfields, who made more money than most of the miners themselves!

    It obviously makes sense to leave blank pages when doing Scissor Skills books, but are you likely to run into problems with KDP because of leaving so many blank pages?

    This video is full of knowledge. I've been trying to research for a TH-cam vid like yours that breaks down the topics in this TH-cam video! 🥼Your video actually reminds me of the content of Doctor Ethan! Dr's demonstrations are totally insightful and I learned a lot for my finals! He is the most informative med student on TH-cam and he talks about health symptoms.
    I suggest you watch his page out and give the Doctor a like! 👉 #DoctorEthanTH-cam
