    Using AI generated images, from sites like MidJourney and leonardo.ai, to create KDP books or other print on demand items is becoming more common. But there is one problem - the quality of the images, that is the resolution or dots per inch (DPI) is below that required by the print on demand services. So, depending on the type of image and software used, there are two main solutions - either to convert the image into a vector image or to upscale the image. In this video I show you how to upscale your images or turn them into vector images depending on the type of image and software that is being used.

    This is an extremely helpful video. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain! Hoping you can help sort out one question I have- I’ve generated coloring book images using mid journey, then upscales per your video on bigjpg, next Im importing the images into Canva to do minor editing, to include using the magic eraser feature to remove some nuances. It appears editing the picture in any way is degrading the quality of the image. I’m noticing pixels. - how can I be sure the image still meets KDP quality standards, and is there a better way to go about editing post upscale images?

      If your book has already been published and is live, you just have to go into your bookshelf, find the book, click "edit book print details" on the three dots to the right of the book then upload the new book cover / or interior.. whichever you are changing.

    Hey hi! I've noticed that some notebooks, journals and planners on Amazon offer a variety of cover designs, all within the same category. For example, I've seen planners with over 10 different color and pattern options, all for the same book . Can you please let me know how to achieve this? I'm curious to learn how to provide multiple cover choices without having to create separate book listings. Thanks so much for your help

    • @paulmarles

      That is not possible with KDP unfortunately and those books you refer to weren't published via KDP. They have them created themselves and sell via an Amazon Sellers account.

  • @TomRoyce
    @TomRoyce 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great video. If I created my book's cover image in Photoshop at 300 dpi and then inserted it into Canva, then downloaded the finished product as a flat PDF, do I have any concerns? I looked at the file I uploaded last night and it looked good when magnified, but I defer to your expertise.

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It would depend on the size of the image you got from Photoshop. For example if it was a 1 inch by 2 inch image with 300 dpi downloaded from photoshop and you had to enlarge it to fit on say a 8.5x11" cover then the image would be no longer 300dpi. If the image is the same size as the cover or you had to shrink it down then that would be fine.

    • @TomRoyce
      @TomRoyce 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, Paul; I used the upscale feature and the --ar 9:11 so they came out full-sized. Dropping them into Photoshop into a page template with 300 dpi worked keeping the quality high. @@paulmarles

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I quite like your content, but you make a fairly prominent mistake here by focusing on the DPI instead of the total amount of pixels.... Apologies in advance for the caps:
    THE DPI OF AN IMAGE DOES NOT MATTER!... The DPI is essentially nothing else than a zoom factor for your pixel image file.
    The same image can be set or saved at 72 DPI and print blurry but large on paper or set/saved at 300 DPI and print a lot sharper but much smaller on the page (as you rightfully show/explain in the video).
    Just because an image is 300DPI does not mean it is larger or will print better than a 72DPI image. People see an image, look for the 300 DPI and think they are safe and completely overlook a better 72 DPI image with far more pixels.
    A 72 DPI could have over 4000*4000 pixels and a 300 DPI image could be just 300*300 pixels. I know you understand how this works and which image will print better, but maybe your viewers might get confused: The image with the higher amount of pixels will ALWAYS print better, DPI is nothing more than a zoom factor.
