Hi Harry, First of all I totally disagree with a previous comment complaining you are too wordy….in my humble opinion your explanation & demonstration of this much overlooked golfswing anomaly is brilliant. I must admit I’ve never quite heard it explained in such graphic, easy to follow terms… for me this was an epiphany…truly a eureka moment.. Many thanks
HI Robin, thanks for commenting with your thoughts on the video and it's so great to read you've found this your Eureka moment for you and your golf game. I'll also take note of want you've said for future content... my aim has always been and will always be to keep the content simple and easy to follow in a broken down step by step way. Keep me posted with how you're getting on with your game and if you're looking for any personalised feedback on your swing... contact me on Skillest!
To tell a golfer, "Keep your left arm straight" is good advice. I've heard it lots of times from players and instructors. After watching your video, I now understand how actually to go about doing it. Thanks very much.
Harry. Thank you so much for this info. I've had an arm injury due to improper swing which forced me to look into a proper swing. I've been learning from other creators but haven't swung recently. Your video really helped as I went to the range for the first time and kept my arm straight forcing my body to do the work. I hit the ball very well and gained 10 yards on my mid irons and wedges. Again, thank you.
Hi thanks for commenting, this is so great to read, pleased you've been able to take these simple tips and apply them to your new swing after the injury but to also gain 10 yards from this just put the icing on the cake. Feel free to reach out to me on Skillest if you're needing help with anything else in your swing!
Excellent reason Harry why it so important to keep the left arm straight in the golf swing. I am always working on a straight left arm and a folded right arm in my golf swing. As you indicated, the problem for me in in this entire procedure is the lack of a full rotation in the backswing. This of course, leads to a lack of distance. I'll definitely be working on this Harry to correct the situation. Well Done!!!
Hi John, thanks for commenting, pleased you enjoyed this video and now you know exactly what you need to work on and focus on to get that lead arm of yours straight in the golf swing. Have you considered the training aid (true turn pro) i introduced in this video?
Hi Fred, thanks for commenting, pleased to read you think my coaching style isn't too wordy haha, once you've given this a try at the driving range let me know how you get on!
great video's- be good if you added some swing plane lines during the videos when you are full swinging - would be nice if you created a video on how to set up the camera properly and what check points to look at when video swing with illustrated lines to help understand important positions thru the back swing (ex. posture, hand path, club path, impact. follow thru, exit and finish) both front and rear view of the same swing... just a thought
@hynesct very interesting video idea, note taken, thanks for this! I've been working with my editor to be able to get the appropriate lines etc on the videos, take a look at some of the latest videos and let me know your thoughts!
I struggle with flexibility but it helps me if I lift my left heel off the ground in the backswing. That helps a little to get a better turn and by extension a straighter right arm.
That’s a great way to add the extra turn. Just got to be very good at planting your foot back down in a repeatable spot so it doesn’t hinder the strike. Thanks for commenting, have you managed to try these tips and drills yet?
I strongly believe that it is mainly a flexibility issue. When I try to keep the left arm straight in a slow motion backswing, I can feel exactly the point at which the muscles in my left back and around my left shoulder can't stretch properly to allow for the left arm remaining straight.
That's very interesting, and yes flexibility and mobility do play a part to achieving this. Can you also feel this stretch/ tension when you just rotate the body with your arms across the shoulders?
You’re not rotating your hips and shoulders enough, I was the same until I rotated everything else, once that gets there it’s less tension to keep a straight arm
I have gone from a full chicken wing no body turn to straight leading left arm and lots of body. I have discovered that you can watch your arms go back and not look at the ball and stripe it almost every time. The key is that if you get your arms and body to the correct position even at at a half swing, the rest will take care of itself.
You've got it, spot on there! Well done, keep me posed with how you get on using this technique. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the channel?
Seems to me the main reason people bend lead arm in backswing is because it is so much easier to stay in posture during the back swing. Keep lead arm straight in backswing makes one stand up or come out of posture and sway to the left. Pure and simple. Much ado about very little;
If it were only that simple it would not be a problem. Keeping lead arm straight in the back swing naturally promotes a sway of the head and upper body. Counteracting these sway forces off the ball is a common problem for a reason. Yes one can learn how to counteract the sway, but this solution is never a simple matter in practice since it is so natural and normal to sway off the ball with a straight arm compared to a bent arm. Gravity pure and simple is at work. .@@harryshawgolf
Trying to keep the lead arm straight and swaying will take place because you struggle to rotate as mentioned earlier, this makes sense, but i'd advise taking a look at focusing on rotation and see if you can limit this which will help improve your ball striking. How's your golf going at the moment?
Hi thanks for commenting, I totally understand your thoughts on this, but I can guarantee if you work on this and utilise the tips to the best you can… you’ll see the results you want. Especially keeping the left arm straight. Have you given this a try yet?
I Think my issue is a flexibility issue...I've always had a very bent left arm...probably because I'm only 5'5 and most short peoplearen't as flexable as talk lanky people. My arms only go to shoulder height or parelle to the ground..nothing forlast 20 years has ever worked unfortunately to get my left arm even close to straight.
Hi, thanks for commenting with your golf swing background. So with your troubles have you tried rotating more in the backswing? (these tips in this video). If not, i'd advise giving them a try and if your still struggling you can follow me on Skillest and send your swing over for me to have a look at.
Hi Jeffrey, thanks for commenting with your thoughts on the video, I agree and will be taking note on this to improve my content for future videos. But, have you managed to try this out?
Hi Scotty, thanks for commenting and appreciate any feedback to help improve future content, i'll take note of this, was there anything in particular i can take note of to consider simplifying further for more viewers like yourself?
